Karen performed at Harrah's in Tahoe in 1970. We had a home in the same cove where Harrah's performers stayed. Karen was floating out in the cove and I watched her 50 feet away, falling in love with her. Purest female baritone voice ever.

My most favorite memory of this song is when one of my older sisters handed me the phone, after she dialed, and asked me to ask the DJ to play this song. My sister must have called in 20 times already, and I guess she thought if a different person requested the song perhaps the DJ would play it sooner. Anyway, the DJ was Skinny Johnny Mitchell in Salt Lake City. When he answered the phone I requested this song, and he asked me if I was the same person who kept calling in, and I told him no. And he said that he didn't like liars, and I responded by saying, "No! I'm a boy!!" Knowing that it was my sister that was likely the one who kept calling in, and was a girl, of course. But you know what, I'll bet there were several others who kept calling in that same night requesting this song. Man! We're talking around 50 years ago! 14 añitos en 1971, gracias por haberme acompañado en mi adolescencia y juventud hermosa Karen, hasta el día de hoy extraño esa bella voz. Saludos desde Chile.
Ridiculous comment and I'm a boomer. But to be honest, I always found the Carpenters to be just another of those manufactured bands of the sixties, singing pop songs written by the likes of Burt Bacharach and such. They had their audience but that audience didn't include those tuned in to the burgeoning rock & roll wave of the sixties.
In an era of amazing singers like Janis Joplin and Carole King and Aretha Franklin and Barbara Streisand, to my ear Karen Carpenter was the pinnacle of perfection. Her voice was so haunting alluring and beautiful, unlike anyone before or since. A tragic loss to the world that she died so young.

I so remember------indeed, I'll not ever forget------when I 1st heard this masterpiece, on the radio, in that long ago, summer of 1970. I had no idea just who " Carpenters " were , no idea who was singing, but what I DID know, was that voice : clean -----pure------& unforgettable. I rushed to get the 45 , from the record store in downtown Denver , ' Harmony Records " on Welton St., between 16th & 15th streets. I paid 79 cents , got back to the room where I was living , 23 y/o, heading to 24, & a senior, finally, in college, at CU-Denver. I got home, & listened, & listened ; the more i did it, the more I was in awe ; I knew then, that whoever " Carpenters " were, there was real, genuine, talent there/ Karen was 20 y/o, & Richard, my age. What a voice -------& for Richard, his sheer genius at song writing, arranging, & production . they were so young , as was I --------it still breaks my heart seeing, & knowing that Karen never knew how good she really was , never believed in herself , & in the end, destroyed herself , without illegal drugs, smoking, or alcohol. --------RIP, beautiful Karen. The music you & your Brother made, lives on now, & will, 4-ever.-----MJL, 75 y/o

I remember hearing that on the radio in the summer of 1970. It was so good, and her voice so beautiful. The harmonies she did with Richard were smooth as silk.
100% BLESSED and a big ALOHA to Miss Karen Carpenter!! Love her voice!! So soothing!!🤙🏽🙏❤
Karen Carpenter parece um anjo cantando. Saudades eternas querida.
I begun to love this music of Caren Carpenters since I was in the grade school, ii remembered it on the year 1972 until now I still love like this music and I am already 56 nearly to die, I want this music to be played when I am already burried in my grave!
Dont die without knowing Jesus, he is our only hope in the afterlife... The hope of eternal joy
14 añitos en 1971, gracias por haberme acompañado en mi adolescencia y juventud hermosa Karen, hasta el día de hoy extraño esa bella voz. Saludos desde Chile.
Its tragic that today's generation don't have someone that can sing like this!
A lot this generation of "singers" do not have...
True
there's autotune now, everything is possible with autotune. Non-singers can record and sell albums with autotune.
try this one...ua-cam.com/video/v_2fyB4dj4U/v-deo.html&start_radio=1&rv=v_2fyB4dj4U&t=1
I listen to Karen every day , that's what I look forward . Put on my headphones and drift away and her voice soothes my soul . Miss her so much !
I loved this album. I was working as a midwife in England. I remember it.
Hats off to the fellow who meshed the video and CD audio together to produce this video.
I always have goosebumps everytime I hear her sing. huuuhhhhh :) Love her voice.

I just love the song "Close To You" The Carpenters ❤💕🎤🎼🎵🎶
Of course you do! This song was composed by the greates.... Burt Bucharach! 😇
Always flabbergasted of that beautiful voice.. ❤️
God bless you Karen. Got a great voice you love.🙏❤️🎼.x
This woman has the perfect voice, so unbelievably clear and finely nuanced! What a wonderful singer!
Karen is on a very short list as the greatest singer that has ever walked this Earth. She was probably barely out of her teens when this was performed. Thanks for the video.
Waouhh 😍😊beautiful old Song unforgettable with my Father thank you so much 😄💖🙏🎶
It's a shame that there are currently no female singers like her 😣
Yes I agree seriously makes me sad about this new generation...they really don't know meaningful songs to this caliber...😪
So much talent and to see play the drums that she loved so much. Her few joys.
