Something to remember is that things were very different when slipknot and limp bizkit had their start. The labels are much less powerful now that we have social media. People have more control how people heard their music. Radio no longer rules.

You can have a successful tour, do everything right, and when you come home, not just be broke, but owing money. When a band puts out a music video the label generally pays for that out of the band's earnings. If the label throws a launch party for a band, they will pay for that from a band's earnings. There's a reason bands write songs dissing record labels

Yep...a band has to be successful enough on their own for a record label to have any interest in investing in them, then they make the offer, the band gets excited, signs the contract, gets all sorts of finanical backing to do cool stuff, until the bill comes back and the label wants their money and youre screwed lol

I am at a university course which includes modules on the music business. The more I learn of it, the more I think that I wouldn't want to be on the forefront of it, but rather in the outskirts. It's nasty and scary, and the artist is very often the abused one, the one everybody else tries to make money from.

Hank lll can tell ya something about how crooked the record buisness is. He has been very outspoken about it in the past, and is a perfect example of how you can do it on your own. Maynard is such a cool and intelligent dude, just seems ironic he is talking about this subject with a interviewer that is one of the biggest tools in Hollywood. Bert sold his soul a long time ago, and is fake asf as far as who he is as a person. Dude would do anything for money, and that makes people dangerous.

I don't think the music business is any darker than any other industry. The only thing that differentiates the music business to other industries is that usually both parties are schooled in business dealings etc. In the music industry there are business people doing business with people who have no experience.

Built her a house in Massachusetts and learned the codes, ended up doing some other work with a mobility company (stairlifts, scooter maintenance, elevator/lifts, etc) I’m able bodied, and if I can make life a little easier or help someone else with their independence, I’m all for it. My name is Adam but people know me as "Adz".
I was born with a major speech condition but 30+ years onwards thanks to the love of my music (mainly rock & metal) my voice is understandable more.
I have a huge passion for music, so much that I go live on TikTok a lot putting on great performances (me singing along to music on a mic in my room) and my streams get very lit. A lot of people even tell me I've got talent and they get impressed with my singing. One person even told me I'm "Chester Bennington 2.0" 🤣. I give off those Chester vibes as I put my heart and soul into my Online Virtual Concerts.
I find communication is better through my singing. I find that it is easier than talking (I do not have a tough time in talking).
I have above 6000 followers on TikTok. I sing because I enjoy it but at the same time I'm serious about it.
Whenever I sing "Animal I've Become" I sing that so perfectly that my friends sings along (writes the lyrics down) lol. I can also sing "Dear God" by Avenged Sevenfold so good. My screams are spot on as well.

1996 Tacoma. Maynard probably remembers. After the show some friends and I waited for them to get autographs. Justin, Danny, and Adam came out first. They probably remember me because of my asthma inhaler -but who knows. It was funny and they were goofy. They all took hits off of it and signed it. I still have it. I just turned 21.
Maynard comes out wearing a beanie and carrying a utility bucket. He stops halfway between us and himself, sets the bucket down and says, "Okay." and we all started laughing. He's a foot shorter than me.
He started signing autographs and I walked up to him with my inhaler and I said to him, "You have a 'godly' voice."
(Look..... I have no idea what's going on at this point. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that any of you guys out there would have known what to say at that point, but whatever, happened too fast. F*ck you. ;)
I'm trying to imagine him thinking that I was telling him that he was dumb and naive and that I was wearing bunny ears. 28 years later realizing what cheesy poser I was seeing a band I loved that was absolutely no where near anything they are today.

    • @MrCheckerhead
      @MrCheckerhead 37 хвилин тому

I forgot to mention, (I don't want to edit my comment above) After I said that to him, he replied, "Thanks, dude." and signed my inhaler, 'MJK'
Trust me, I got the sense immediately that what I said was probably straight up, stupid as f*ck. I felt stupid and to be honest, in fact, in all seriousness, he probably wanted to rip my throat out and I don't blame him. There was no way I was capable of understanding his perspective at the time.

A record deal gets bands distribution and enables them to tour. For every huge band like Mettalica, which makes the label a ton, they have scores and scores of bands that they lose money on. There is no darkside.
