Something to remember is that things were very different when slipknot and limp bizkit had their start. The labels are much less powerful now that we have social media. People have more control how people heard their music. Radio no longer rules.
You can have a successful tour, do everything right, and when you come home, not just be broke, but owing money. When a band puts out a music video the label generally pays for that out of the band's earnings. If the label throws a launch party for a band, they will pay for that from a band's earnings. There's a reason bands write songs dissing record labels
Yep...a band has to be successful enough on their own for a record label to have any interest in investing in them, then they make the offer, the band gets excited, signs the contract, gets all sorts of finanical backing to do cool stuff, until the bill comes back and the label wants their money and youre screwed lol

Maynard said a lot of profound stuff in this episode. Stuff that made me rewind and listen again. But hearing him speak about that reaffirmed everything he said in the song ÆNEMA. Don't be the dumbfounded dipshits folks.
Hank lll can tell ya something about how crooked the record buisness is. He has been very outspoken about it in the past, and is a perfect example of how you can do it on your own. Bert sold his soul a long time ago, and is fake asf as far as who he is as a person. Dude would do anything for money, and that makes people dangerous.
I don't think the music business is any darker than any other industry. The only thing that differentiates the music business to other industries is that usually both parties are schooled in business dealings etc. In the music industry there are business people doing business with people who have no experience.
The same can be said about the acting community too. Everytime I get told how good I am at my craft or at my character, I can't help but feel told I'm "dumb and naive". Just like the music industry, not all are like that, but they're quite a few.
While She Sleeps is an independent band, with their main source of income coming from their Patreon fan page. And they have achieved massive global success, being the best UK metalcore band right now.

My name is Adam but people know me as "Adz". I was born with a major speech condition but 30+ years onwards thanks to the love of my music (mainly rock & metal) my voice is understandable more. I have a huge passion for music, so much that I go live on TikTok a lot putting on great performances (me singing along to music on a mic in my room) and my streams get very lit. A lot of people even tell me I've got talent and they get impressed with my singing. One person even told me I'm "Chester Bennington 2.0" 🤣. I give off those Chester vibes as I put my heart and soul into my Online Virtual Concerts. I find communication is better through my singing. I find that it is easier than talking (I do not have a tough time in talking). I have above 6000 followers on TikTok. I sing because I enjoy it but at the same time I'm serious about it. Whenever I sing "Animal I've Become" I sing that so perfectly that my friends sings along (writes the lyrics down) lol. I can also sing "Dear God" by Avenged Sevenfold so good. My screams are spot on as well.
There are too many ways for bands to record, distribute, and tour, on their own, without Label Executives, for the Labels to keep pulling the same old crap.
Cases like Slipknot and Limp Bizkit are the high profile ones that people hear about, there are countless examples of smaller bands being completely ruined by labels. How many times have you heard of musicians holding full time jobs until their 2nd or even 3rd album that makes it big?
Perfect example of this is the movie Rock of Ages where the manager promises the venue all the money earned then charges them for exactly what they earned that night
The only problem I have with this video is the “VIP” package that was sold to fans and what was actually given….someone that was apparently “dumb and naive” was responsible for that
It's insane that a band can sell over 50mill records, have millions of streams a year on Spotify and the other streaming services and have not received any money
1996 Tacoma. Maynard probably remembers. After the show some friends and I waited for them to get autographs. Justin, Danny, and Adam came out first. They probably remember me because of my asthma inhaler -but who knows. It was funny and they were goofy. They all took hits off of it and signed it. I still have it. I just turned 21. Maynard comes out wearing a beanie and carrying a utility bucket. He stops halfway between us and himself, sets the bucket down and says, "Okay." and we all started laughing. He's a foot shorter than me. He started signing autographs and I walked up to him with my inhaler and I said to him, "You have a 'godly' voice." (Look..... I have no idea what's going on at this point. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that any of you guys out there would have known what to say at that point, but whatever, happened too fast. F*ck you. ;) I'm trying to imagine him thinking that I was telling him that he was dumb and naive and that I was wearing bunny ears. 28 years later realizing what cheesy poser I was seeing a band I loved that was absolutely no where near anything they are today.
