Maynard does not open up a lot, he’s usually quiet and reserved and to see him look comfortable and even with personal questions which he tends to shy away from, he was more open because you gave him that comfort. Love that he recognized skipping the PNW for Sessanta because I was so jealous of those who got to go. He made it up to us and I'm going in June. Thanks Maynard!!
You're awesome Allison. This was a great interview. Maynard is one of the greatest vocalists who has ever lived. That is shocking that he doesn't see that as his core competency. Wow!!
Great interview! Maynard is one of the coolest people alive today. It's always so funny seeing how almost sheepish he is during interviews compared to his recordings and performances. Truly an interesting and intelligent artist.
@@AllisonHagendorf I just got to the point where you bring up Sleep Token! As a long time Tool fan, I latched onto ST immediately. The soulful intense vocals, and progressive drumming/ time signatures, the atmospheric and textural guitars.
I love how he doesn't take himself to serious, but is complex like wine, and a goofball like cotton candy. he can sure belt the out. I like it when you hear him about to belt something out, but goes into a beautiful highs and lows with his voice. He made up his own vocalist category.
I absolutely MUST hear Maynard's opinion on Sleep Token! Take Me Back to Eden reminded me of TOOL so much that ive been dying to hear somebody ask MJK about em!
Great interview - it's always a pleasure to listen to anything Maynard sings/says ❤ today I was notified by youtube music, that I was among 0.25% of top-Tool listeners in September 😁

with the utmost respect, i think maynard is autistic. i'm autistic, and he reminds me a lot of myself. i was unsure about this interview at the start, but i ended up really enjoying it. thank you maynard and allison.
I'm proud to say my high schooler and her friends know and love Tool. Pretty surreal ride with your child driving and see her singing Tool in the car like you did when you were 16. So better late than never, Maynard!
Allison, thank you very much for these interviews. I really appreciate how a notoriously reclusive guy like Maynard was able to open up himself and talk comfortably about subjects he rarely covers in interviews. If you appreciate the artistic aspects of Sleep Token, you should check "King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard", an extremely prolific Australian band (25 albums in 14 years). They'll be in LA soon and are broadcasting their shows from this USA tour on UA-cam for free. Genre blending (from Psychedelic rock to Thrash metal to jazz) and extremely approachables, unlike the masked guys from Sleep Token
As a mother who raised some amazing musicians (they and all their friends all learned about Tool at our house ), the live gig thing for smaller bands is SO TRUE. Its just awful right now and they get very discouraged about live play. I keep pushing them to keep those live chops up because I'm an eternal optimist that live shows might actually make a comeback. I love watching them play live, nothing like it! Sadly on many nights you look around and wonder WHERE IS EVERYONE?? I really think the encouragement from national artists is an important part of this. GO SEE LIVE MUSIC needs to be a mantra from every single artist!
I don’t know man, even delegating so many things seems exhausting to me… 😂 Thanks Allison. Not always easy to interview MJK but you managed to excite him with the questions about his non musical projects and so by the end we got some really interesting insights on music.
@AllisonHagendorf I must catch up with more or your interviews. Your love for music and life seems very dero and worth exploring. I'm a late Tool follower, but made sure I looked A Full Circle too. Thank you for spreading the knowledge of music. It's the best type of friendship !
What a fantastic interview! The one thing that I really enjoyed about your approach is that you provided context and references and incorporated that into the discussion. From watching other interviews he has done, Maynard can be tough to have a discussion with. There are plenty of interviews where as a viewer, you know when it's not going well. I've seen only a small portion of interviews that I thought have gone over very well. Rick Beato had a great interview with him and now after watching yours, it definitely sits up there as well. Rick's interview was focused on the creation of his music and yours was rooted in the history of both Maynard and his projects. It was nice to see Maynard share some personal elements of his life and the vibe you set really made that happen.
Wow. Sammy, thank you so much for this insightful feedback. I pour everything I have into my interviews so it means so much to me to know it resonated with you. I have the utmost respect for Rick Beato so I take that as a huge compliment! Thank you so much and it's wonderful to connect with you!

Ahhhhh Oh thank you so much !!!
Allison, Great F’n job on this interview! I’ve been a fan of Maynard/Tool since I was in Jr high(93’) and have always been really impressed by their creativity. This interview is by far the best one I’ve watched of Maynard! Thank you!🤘🏾you rock Girl!
I am so touched by this! Thank you so very much. Truly!
Recently saw Sessanta 1.0 at the Hollywood Bowl and it was mind blowing. He still sounds amazing and you always know it’s going to be a great experience because he’s an ardent tastemaker in all he does.
Love that he recognized skipping the PNW for Sessanta because I was so jealous of those who got to go. He made it up to us and I'm going in June. Thanks Maynard!!
As an Ozzy and Tool fan i was happy to see Maynard there.
Best interview ever! have been waiting for this for a long time! Maynard your a legend! 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Ahhhhh thank you so, so much!
Maynard. As a huge fan of all YOUR work i still was shitting my pants that you came on for Ozzy. You did a great job, what an honor.
You're awesome Allison. This was a great interview. Maynard is one of the greatest vocalists who has ever lived. That is shocking that he doesn't see that as his core competency. Wow!!
Thank you so much! It’s great to connect with you ❤
Great interview! Maynard is one of the coolest people alive today. It's always so funny seeing how almost sheepish he is during interviews compared to his recordings and performances. Truly an interesting and intelligent artist.
Thank you for being part of it!
I love Maynard and all his work, gotten me through a lot of tough times/great times, and now I love this show.
This makes me so happy! It's wonderful to connect with you XO
@@AllisonHagendorf likewise. Keep it up!
@@AllisonHagendorf I just got to the point where you bring up Sleep Token! As a long time Tool fan, I latched onto ST immediately. The soulful intense vocals, and progressive drumming/ time signatures, the atmospheric and textural guitars.
@@familiarsting4108 Right?! Love them!
Thank you Allison, great show. Maynard is one of a kind 🤘
Thank you so much for being part of it!
Dude is so down to earth. Grounded for sure.

Followed MJK here. Great interview, you made him open up to have a comfortable interview. Thanks for this.
I'm so glad. Thank you so, so much! Great to connect!
Right?! I was dying to hear his thoughts. I'm proud that I have introduced them to him!
@@AllisonHagendorf Wow what a great interview! I hope you get to ask his opinion on Sleep Token the next time he comes on! 🙏
Great interview - it's always a pleasure to listen to anything Maynard sings/says ❤ today I was notified by youtube music, that I was among 0.25% of top-Tool listeners in September 😁
hahahah that is awesome! Great to meet you!
This is a great interview! He's amazing indeed. He certainly gave you lots of laughs from his stories and everything else! xD
I enjoyed watching your episode, I gave your episode a LIKE! Thank you for interviewing Maynard! 👏👏👏👏
Thank YOU for your support. You Rock!
with the utmost respect, i think maynard is autistic.
i'm autistic, and he reminds me a lot of myself.
i was unsure about this interview at the start, but i ended up really enjoying it.
thank you maynard and allison.
Thank YOU for joining us and for sharing XO
I'm proud to say my high schooler and her friends know and love Tool. Pretty surreal ride with your child driving and see her singing Tool in the car like you did when you were 16. So better late than never, Maynard!
I love hearing this!
Adore this man, been obsessed, literally since I first listened!! Spiral out!!!
A splendid conversation with the businessman and a music mogul.
Thank you for being part of it!
Excellent interview. Maynard’s sign off at the end was so understated it had me laughing out loud. 😂
Ha me too! Thank you!
Love that Tool took out one of their favorite bands Killing Joke as support on the 2019 tour.
YES!
You have great taste!!!! Thank you for sharing this with me!
Wow, few people managed to interview maynard
I am so very grateful we got to have this wonderful conversation!
The last third of this is solid gold to me, thank you
Thank you for this great interview! MJK 🖤
Thank YOU for being part of it!
I already have tickets for Sessanta 2.0. I can’t wait to see this show!! Great interview.
Thank you!
You won’t be disappointed saw it at Red Rocks in rain and it was epic. And yes this is one of the best interviews of Maynard I’ve ever seen.
@@hunterperry1379 That means so much to me. Thank you!
Great interview, I’m glad it came up on my algorithm. Now I’m subbed. Thank you Allison!
I am so glad! It's great to meet you and thank you so much for your support!
Maynard seems like a great guy. Down to earth and humble.
Thank you for giving us a little time with Maynard , and you are exceptional as well. I subbed
This means so much to me. Thank you! It's great to connect!
@AllisonHagendorf if I interviewed Maynard,it would be like a Chris Farley skit
@@Throwsessive I totally get it. I sometimes think I AM like that!
@AllisonHagendorf you were cool as a fan
@@Throwsessive Thank you!
I don’t know man, even delegating so many things seems exhausting to me… 😂 Thanks Allison. Not always easy to interview MJK but you managed to excite him with the questions about his non musical projects and so by the end we got some really interesting insights on music.
This means so much to me! Thank you for sharing and it's great to connect!
Definitely one of the best All time!❤
This was the first interview with MJK that wasn’t awkward. You are a good interviewer. I’ll subscribe.🤟🏻
Thank you so much, Jeff! I'm so glad you did. I truly appreciate your support!
This guy. Great. Just a wonderful example of Midwestern work ethic..
This interview style is pretty cold . Brrrrrrrrr🥶
What an incredible interview. His words are to be listened to !
Thank you so much for being part of it!
@AllisonHagendorf I must catch up with more or your interviews. Your love for music and life seems very dero and worth exploring. I'm a late Tool follower, but made sure I looked A Full Circle too. Thank you for spreading the knowledge of music. It's the best type of friendship !
@@whiteonion670 I couldn’t agree more! I’m so glad we connected and I can’t wait to hear which other interviews are your favorite! Thank you!!!!
@@AllisonHagendorf I'll be looking for sure !
@@whiteonion670 Awesome!
This is my first time on your channel. Fantastic interview Allison!! Maynard is a treasure of inspiration.
Hi Adam! It's wonderful to connect with you. Thank you so much for sharing this awesome feedback!
@@AllisonHagendorf Keep up the fantastic work!
Thank you! I appreciate this great interview-well thought out, interesting questions and discussion. Thank you for not being another superficial (cringeworthy) interviewer and taking the time to produce meaningful content. Keep it up!
This means so much to me! Thank you!!!!!!
Great interview, thank you Allison!
Thank YOU!
MAYNARD MADE ME SMILE TODAY

I love the way you conducted the interview and I hit the like button as soon as you recommended Sleep Token!

No one could have done it better than you, giving you the place you deserve, a serious and intelligent interview like this commander, master oenologist of the universe, a great inspiration for many people who are in music, art, cooking, and ednology who great interview, I really liked that someone interviewed the great teacher Maynard in this way, excellent program🙋✌️👍🤟🙏👏

Hands down the best MJK interview to date!
He NEEDS to hear Sleep Token and share his thoughts. ST is the only band ever that has compared to Maynard’s work, for me. Thank you for this!!! So good.
Ahhhh, thank YOU! This is such a huge compliment and I truly take it to heart. I appreciate you!
Thank you so much for asking him about his vocals. Its amazing to me that he thinks he isnt a vocalist lol he is one of the greatest live singers i have ever heard he is so humble there will never be another mjk
What a beautiful and humble man! Strong and will absolutely put people in their place when needed but the greatest singer on the planet yet so humble...an excellent example to all of us! 🙏🏻
Anyone: "You're music just means so much to me. I listen to it every day. It's so beautiful."
Maynard: "Ok."
hahahahahahaha. He literally made me laugh out loud.
Great interview, Alison ❤
