    I have a funny story, brace yourself.
    I *used* to do AI Art until one day I asked for something so strange that Microsoft's AI couldn't get it right so I got frustrated and drew the picture myself on the way to my Grandma's funeral, I looked up reference images and everything also I inherited a LOT of colored pens and pencils from my aforementioned Grandma.
    It would be a shame if they all went to waste.

I've experimented with more image generating prompts than I'd want to admit, but there HAVE been occasions where I've literally spent more time tweaking a given prompt than it would've taken me to sketch/draw it myself and get it right more or less the first time. I am not afraid of ai image generators anymore. ai may replace art jobs but it will never replace art as whole and that's kind of beautiful in a way. now that ai images are becoming much more of a big thing and Ive started seeing them much more, I've started appreciating real art way more. even if it's just a drawing of a stick figure made by a 5 year old. AI images kind of helped me look at real art in a much more beautiful way. ai art sort of indirectly helped regular art in that sense (to me atleast)

      That's a wonderful sentiment. Thanks for sharing! I know people are convinced ai will take all jobs, but with what it can't and won't ever do, isn't it safe to assume that companies that DON'T follow that path will get ahead and then more places will reinvest into artists?

    I actually started traditional drawing this year partially because of AI, and my main goal with it was to further fill in the gaps in my knowledge I didn't have through digital alone.
    I'm sure digital will always be my main thing, but I do think that starting traditional even improved my digital works as well. I drew traditional for years, and now i have a tablet thanks to a friend of mine, and i use it sparingly when i wanna pick it up. I had no issue to translate all my skills to the other medium, surprising a lot a few of my friends bc of it, since they had it much rougher when they started digital after years of traditional.
      But i certainly noticed that, when i use my tablet too often, i miss A TON the feeling and easyness of traditional.
      The strokes of the pencil, the blending of the sharpies, the soothing detailing of the colored pencils, the resistance of the eraser on the paper…
      I have a ton of issues with wet mediums(watercolours, acrylics), but i never felt so empty than the last time i used my tablet, when 2 whole weeks have been on digital, and i never felt more at home, than when picking a pencil and an eraser again.
      Yes, you can always transfer your abilities to other mediums, but still, if you feel better using one rather than the other, you can always go back to your beloved one for a cozy and confy time❤

      Exactly. There is a reason most artists are called “starving artists”. They create no matter what and it is not about money. Most folks who create have a day job and don’t actually get to make money with art but they still create.
      Making money with art doesn’t necessarily make someone an artist.
      It ain’t the qualifier for being an artist.
      Everyone can create. AI will not stop that ever.
      I think folks are just looking more at the commercial side. It will be harder to make a living doing art. You won’t get paid as much.

      @themightyflog true, income doesn’t make anyone an artist because everyone is born to make art naturally. However, why do you think artists won’t get paid as much? Many artists like myself and those I work with have increased their pricing and gotten it since ai. Remember scarcity in any market is more valuable

    • @themightyflog
      @themightyflog 6 місяців тому

      @@TheArtMentor Well that is good news. I have just been hearing doom and gloom but always felt that the artists who set themselves a part, like the ones with great custom styles will be in higher demand.
      I think the general artist who just copies a style and just delivers work will be replaced by AI.
      I've seen it to where I look for artists and get a response "what style to you want"? I don't want a copy. I want your style if it is cool. I'm looking for a style. Send me your demo. If it is the style I like I"ll go for it. If it ain't I won't. I don't want you copying a style. AI will do that if I want a copy.
      So I do feel the artists will have to market themselves better. There has to be a guy out there that directs and manages artists. Heck OF girls have brand marketers. Why not artists. Someone who knows business and finds you a job and takes 10% but does all the work finding clients vs artists who are bad at business scrounging around on their own.
      Too many lone wolfs in the artists community.
      You'd think 10 artists would have gotten together to make a pixar level movie...nope. Too many egos.
      Now in the IP market I think some collabing will be needed to compete.

      Okay, a few points i wanna make
      1-Beginner artists, or let's call them, the ones that do so for hobby but were hoping to make a living out of it in the future, are HIGHLY insecure, and most of them start bc they wanna make something from their favorite thing, could be a movie or series or book, doesn't matter, but they all do so because they wanted "to be like their role models"(i remember i started when i was young bc i wanted to paint as beautifully as Van Gogh in his autumn tree painting, that i saw on a book my mom gifted me for my bday, and later, i started again after defeat bc a now friend of mine made a zine, i saw it ob my first attended anime con, and thought, "if they can do it, why can't i?"), so, they are prone to just make it for fun… Until the laughing or harsh critism from their peers starts to make them doubt what they do and why they do it.
      They are, most of the time, children or teens, and therefore, didn't developed a strong sense of self(-importance) yet, bc that's why they are doing, growing and developing a whole person.
      Most of them, as of now, the present, are in the internet constantly. I know bc i had my first cellphone when i was 8, and i went to rent a pc usage at the time, all days i could, usually sharing that time with my mom.
      Therefore, is not hard to see why they make themselves this question:
      They don't have the experience, nor the values, nor the confidence, that growing up, gives you.
      Hell, most of them probably don't have a ton of friends, or what i like to call, a support system, to help them go through their own shyness and insecurities despite not feeling sure or capable of shait.
      I know i didn't had that when i was a teen, and it was not long ago, i'm only 25.
      You know what they do have tho? Bitter ai bros on twitter telling them their art isn't worth a penny, and bullies of their own school on discord servers talking shait about them.
      I know bc i have a few friends on fb that are 15, and d4mn, people are mean to them??? For free???
      I wished i could do more, but what i do most, is telling them the true, and saying they are not what these people say.
      What i wanna say with all of this, is that having that questions is reasonable if we have context in mind, and that it is not something to dismiss, bc if people like me have done to themselves this question at some point of the ai argument, is bc people can be very bad intentioned on the internet, and most of begginers don't have someone to tell them this isn't worth giving up.
      I know i have now, but if this happened when i was 15, i know i SURELY would have given up on my journey.
      We don't need people saying "this is dumb, why you even think this", what we need is people like OP, saying to us, that this battle against anxiety and fear, is worth fighting for.

    Things you’re talking about are too abstract and won’t really disabuse anyone about the usage of ai, to fully understand the situation it’s also really important to talk about more technical parts of ai skills.
    Ai can’t do:
    1) anatomy
    2) composition (ai doesn’t know how to manipulate with the viewer's eye and renders everything equally, puts the object ether randomly or at the centre, which is boring, doesn’t know about the focus points and any other composition techniques)
    3) perspective (ether with architecture or human body from different angles, it’s all done really bad by ai)
    4) sense/illusion of depth
    5) Unique art style (okay, this one you’ve mentioned)
    And the most important aspect is that ai also can’t learn how to do these things because it’s algorithms has to be changed completely for it to understand the anatomy, depth and perspective while composition even can’t really be learned by a machine because it’s not about patterns but feelings and what artist wants to highlight in the artwork

AI can have major troubles generating things based on prompts, let alone altering things based on collaboration and communication. AI enjoyer here and I agree with you, by a lot.
    I had to argue with my friends depressions cause they didn't see that AI was limited, they thought it would take over and a bunch of "why bother" mindsets that was annoying. Like, I had to explain them that I'm still PAYING them! Not cause they are my friend but because I LIKE THEY'RE ART!
    No matter how many TOOLS are out there, it means NOTHING to the fundamentals of being an Artist. Cool posters are one thing but as you said, a story inside it is another.
    Tbh, I pushed AI mainly to experience what it has and then left it at that. Cause I wanted to at least see what it was about and I still use it occasionally enough cause it's interesting and funny to me.
    They only reason why some people are going to actually be good with AI are Photoshoppers. They can use AI Art in a way that will work for them and that's a small margin of people who are going to have to show they have the skill or patients to use the program as a creative.
    Beyond them, eh.
    Personally, I just wish they all referenced the Art models they use and link or direct where things started from, like a lot do on reddit.
    Lastly I think the issue is less the AI Art Gen, or the community and more of a industrial societal issue. "Oh no, we'll lose our jurbs" is the biggest mindset I see in places and I'm just... disconnected cause I've never seen it that way.

      @@TheArtMentor Exactly true... to a degree. AI is your personal assistant who has to follow your commands like a commissioner but I'm not going to argue if they are a director, assistant or facilitator.
      I personally have a hard time with conversations like this because usually, it's a non issue in the long haul for me.
      Too many people freaking out over an issue and not thinking about the actuality of it beyond a surface level. AI isn't able to get anything for a long while, put in laws in place where companies can't exploit people. Have the system not able to use names from anyone outside their payroll or franchise, Require one Artist Staff Member as their AI Model in order to use the program, and pay extra if they want to use the AI Art as an official product.
      And even if you have a Prompter who typed out a 2 page setup, the AI is too limited in it's focus, even if you have half of every image on the net.
      They'll have to repeat the input to see maybe a few hundred variations before they find something they like, that in most honesty, is just a part of the image most likely.
      It will always be limiting because of how limited the A's I's is. It will be either limited in the future or will be locked away from companies. Both of which will be a good thing cause Greed will always be the main draw for a lot of these money grubbers.
      At least, when you have laws in place, you'll have help stopped the AI from becoming more capable of being miss used in the future when it does have long term contextual memory built in to it later.

    As more time goes on, the limitations of LLMs and ML comes to light.
    I touched a text to image generator only twice, but each time was a disappointment.
    It's great if all a person wants is samey, bland, corporate guff, but it falls apart if one asks for anything novel or remotely creative. It can only remix based on what already exists in its data. Making new things just won't happen based on the limitations of the machine and it will always be stuck in the past.
    It's just faster to work out my thoughts with good ole' pencil and paper.

    I'm also finally getting my head around physical paints such as Gouache, Acrylic and Oil. I am definitely never going to abandon digital, why in fact I'm using Krita and Rebelle to familiarise myself with these mediums, I have a set of Gouache and a huge Acrylic set, though the downside being cost of replacement. Physical mediums sure do have the edge over Digital in terms of connection and touch, which something like a Cintiq or tablet can just help to compensate for. I look forward to seeing combinations of the physical and digital. I definitely think the future shall yield new advances in physical mediums, such as programmable nanite paint (may be necessary for painting low gravity), magneticly suspended pixels and other mediums of creativity I cannot think of. Over the centuries I doubt physical mediums will die off, they will evolve just as they centuries in the past.

Getting joy out of putting others down.

If you google sheep or spend some time on pinterest alot of those results are ai generated. (google has to do something against that tbh. I want REAL pictures of sheeps not diluded versions.)

    Great video and heavily agree with what is presented about quality and uniqueness. Just want to add some extra points as someone who commissions artwork and specifically stays away from AI art:
    1. AI art is not competing with actual artist commissions. They are not competing for the $80 hobby artist commissions or the hundreds of dollars or thousands for amateur, professional or industry professional artists. AI art is competing with each other for the "$5 for 10 renders" - a commission fee so low that most artists I don't think would even bother. In a way, AI art helps filter out the people who would underpay for your services.
    2. What I love about working with artists, is being able to say, "I like the picture but the armor joints don't make sense, could you change them to this, and remove the spikes?". "Or, I like the picture, but I want the lighting to be a bit more moody". Or, "this goblin is pretty cool, but he should be a bit taller", and the artist being able to make those changes promptly, or even live. Problem with AI art is that making such direct and specific changes is difficult and the tool ends up changing other parts of the image I don't want changed or not changing it at all. And some changes take longer to make than an actual artist doing it. Generally an AI artist has to, "get back to me on that" and then wants me to settle for whatever they have generated.
    3. When you are creating a world, having the input of an experienced, and just as ambitious artist can help elevate your idea way beyond what you initially expected. I love having ideas for fantasy but an artist takes those ideas and my prompts/descriptions and adds a spin on it that ironically immerses me into my own idea. Not to mention artists can really help put your ideas into perspective if you are unsure of even your own idea. AI artists are unable to do that because the only thing that goes through most of their minds is, "that looks cool". Their standards are more their own standards and they rarely think of the standards of the one they are producing for.

    I like digital art when I'm drawing anime/manga stuff, the effects available on digital programs are necessary to get the picture to look how I want, and the process is faster. I prefer traditional media when I'm making things like portraits, there are things that digital media cannot quite replicate when working with real oil or charcoal of course someone who's never used traditional mediums probably wouldn't notice or care about that. I think it's good to enjoy at least one or two different traditional mediums, the experience is different and you can give your eyes a break from the screen! And in having that extra skill if the absolute worst case scenario happened you could fall back on selling traditional art, but at the same time there's an audience for everything so if you can build an audience I don't think you need to feel threatened about AI images.

Its funny how there is no AI lawyer, when it is much much more technologically easier to replace, same goes to any other field. The problem with artists is that they failed to defend, and they got rolled over. Art was the last realm of high intelligence. Edit: 15:50 I really want to extend on this as a personal experience experimenting with AI. Yes. Starting with an AI generated image IS more work because 1) you have to then hunt and fix the mistakes, 2) it takes you less time to sketch exactly what you want on a piece than asking Midjourney to produce 10 dozens of images you then have to go through and see which one works. And even then it's not going to be even that great because is not exactly what you wanted... AI art should be (first of all properly regulated) used as a post processing tool. Or something in between once you have a good base, if you even want to consider it. Remember, AI doesn't really understand when and why a golden ratio composition or rule of 3rds work.

    Meanwhile I keep creating my art, because even if AI can (at least in theory) generate a work that looks better than what I can do.... using AI misses the point. You miss the peaceful moment where you're painting/drawing in your canvas, you miss the joy that I recently got when I've made my first breakthrough and saw a significant improvement in my art after MONTHS of practise, and let's be honest... if you show an image and say it was made by AI, people will be like "oh cool", and then move on. But when you learn to draw amazing pictures after months, and show it to your friends, or even better, ACTIVELLY SHOW YOURSELF MAKING THE ARTWORK IN FRONT OF THEM, they'll think you're a fucking Art God!
    No one envies AI's ability to "make" art, because AI is just an unfeeling machine that can produce whatever garbage fast without any actual thought or reasoning behind it, but people DO CONSTANTLY ENVY REAL ARTISTS, hell the mere EXISTENCE OF AI "ART" is proof of that, Ai Bros are nothing more than a bunch of envious losers who really wish they could draw like some amazing artist, but are too lazy to put in the actual effort required to do so, so they steal said artist's work, so they can try and claim it as their own, and what motivates that envy is specifically because it was a HUMAN WHO MADE THIS! You look at the fucking Mona Lisa, and immediately knows.... A human being has made something trully special and amazing, and that's why you envy that human. Hey, AI bros. Since you tell people to learn from the past, let me give you a story lesson: Giving bad names for people who disagree with you and being trigger-happy with it never worked.
    If you were unlucky enough to dwell in Brazil during 2019-2022, you unfortunately know about Jair Messias Bolsonaro, the president during this period. Being totally unbiased, his time in office was... Really, really bad. Just to name a few things that this guy did while in office:
    - Fired lots of people in the Federal Police (Kinda of our FBI) to protect his family from being investigated;
    - Used ABIN (Our CIA) to spy on political adversaries;
    - Destroyed the Operação Lava-Jato (An operation that found and punished corrupt politicians. Many of those were released after this stunt);
    - He denied vaccines in the pandemic, causing 700K deaths;
    - He made easier for mentally unstable people to get firearms;
    - He appointed a judge who gave political rights back to Lula (Our current president) despite he being a convicted felon;
    - Also, since his congressman days, he commited embezzlement;
    I could go on... And everyone who tried to criticize him was labeled as a communist. After all of his misadventures, he lost the election to Lula, a convicted felon, despite his 40 billion bucks on welfare. People now are less scared of being called a communist now. Rightfully so.
    Why would anyone feel ashamed to be called a communist when the anticommunist side is openly anti-vaxx, incompetent, narcisist and on top of that, a bully?
    So what if I'm a luddite? At least I ain't threatening anyone with unemployment, I ain't blaming everyone else for my downfalls, I ain't pretending to be happy with an AI girlfriend, I ain't creating deep fakes of people I hate... And I honestly enjoy what I do, I can have real social connections even without getting something out of it, I don't need to buy AI-generated samey BS from multi-billion companies, I can enjoy a healthy relationship with a real person, I can always get better with effort... So I'll take it as a compliment.
    Also, please, God. I hope I won't talk about this disgusting man more often. He's now ineligible, being investigated and might get arrested. It's time to forget about him.

      Why not go back in time to the point of the emergence of digital art where was your bitching about that replacing artists who draw on canvas being "replaced" by digital art. Oh wait they still exist its as if now they embrace digital art and work side by side with it because digital art is and wait for it... A FUCKING TOOL.
