  • I’m exposing why AI art users promote hate and discrimination, but don't want you to know why. Today, I'm exposing all of the brutal truths and secrets they don't want you to know. In this video, learn the secret motivations behind every type of AI art user, why users were attracted to AI art in the first place, and why some users think they have to "adapt or die" to AI art technology. After watching this, please share it so that we, as artists, know how to respond to these users. Maybe you'll even develop some sympathy and empathy for them, and maybe we can help get AI art users off of this violent tech and back to authentic art making.

    • @onikaizer

      The ones I think do most harm are seasoned artists that have already a solid fan base and body of work to not care what goes around in the art ecosystem, and just either dismiss it as a cult, compare it to "the printing press, photography, etc" without understanding the social conditions around the trade in current days, or that added the AI in their process and just brag that they used "their own work to train it" knowing full well that Ai generation and model training doesn't work that way, and that you need an enormous quantity of material to get a decent generation.

    As someone who had very little artistic ability 3 years ago, I can say with absolute certainty that talent isn't the issue with becoming an artist. Rather, it comes down to having a willingness to develop the habit for practicing every single day, having a realistic goal in mind, and also having a good teacher/mentor to help you along the way. I do not know how much you will improve by AI prompting every day, but I can demonstrate visual proof of what consistently practicing anatomy for 30 minutes or less, 7 days a week, for 2 years in a row can do for your skills. My profile picture is one such result and I did that all on a dry erase board. If I could go from low skill to doing that in less than 3 years, just imagine what you could achieve if you practiced drawing for 5 minutes a day. That's how I started and I have no intention of stopping!

      AI prompting can help to increase knowledge of art theory and design. It also can help to recognize various styles and concepts. It won’t teach how to actually create the artwork itself.

      Yet that vocabulary building is so worthless versus the application, so why not learn while you create when you’re scientifically proven to learn best? Conceptual and vocabulary knowledge is the most easily forgotten aspect of learning and comprehension. Not to mention, can we not ignore that AI images pump out way more flaws in these art concepts than correct and observable references for them?

      @@bradleytrease2290 I'll be honest I don't think I'd even use AI art for direct reference. Every now and then I notice body parts that are just out of proportion enough to make a subject look weird. That's not a problem you'd get out of referencing a human artist that has taken the time to learn the fundamentals (which anyone can learn) or just straight up a photo reference. Learning styles isn't that hard either, just open a word doc, copy and paste examples of artists with similar styles, write down notes on where the similarities lie and where are the differences between them. That's something you learn in primary school and then secondary school art classes.

    I've tried AI art. It feels like instant gratification. When the high goes away, all that insecurity comes right back because it's just lying to yourself. working on improving skills and practice is just a better way towards self-fulfillment, but I feel like AI does have a place in the world, just like those shrewd business owners that think they can get a logo designed for $30 by a legit designer. Hopefully AI will funnel all those people away and leave only the people who know and value art for the artists that actually want to do art. I don't think AI will kill art, but there is a lot of dysphoria going on right now. I'm experiencing it right now too. Your video made me think and motivated me a bit too. I don't paint a lot at all, but I just love the feeling of pouring my heart and soul into a piece of art for days on end, even if I'm still a tad unsatisfied with it at the end, at least it's 100% mines.

    It's been nearly a year since the whole thing with AI thing blew up and I think it's largely gone down with communities becoming more aware of the nature of AI image generation and its users. I think we're moving towards a better place now.
    Lately my concern is how AI has, and will, impact the perception of art for everyone besides artists and AI users. It's great that AI users can't copyright their "work", so businesses will hopefully all avoid it. But I worry people will begin to view art as something cheap or avoid it altogether out of fear it's actually stolen AI collages. I see AI users as nothing more than scammers now, but this reputation could spill onto actual artists to the unaware.

    Just 2 days ago SD announced 3D modelling generation and I already saw people in reddit *chanting* about "how f***ed 3D artists are now as well". What kind of psychopath welcomes a new technology with the immediate mockery of other people way of making a living?
    They were also claiming that within a year, "prompt to full 3D videogames" is gonna be a thing. As they keep telling artists "You do not understand how AI works", they clearly do not understand the technical aspects of 3D modelling at all. While AI might do some supposedly "incredible looking sculpt", making such model working for an animation without being completely broken the moment you bend a limb or tweak a face requires a ton of manual intervention, patience and knowledge at what has to be tweaked. If 2D generated content without manual refinement still has broken anatomy (I see such mistakes even in pictures they define "perfect"), I really wonder how is it gonna work when it has to look good from all angles and in all positions.

    I've tried producing AI art using A1111 and have generated over hundreds of images. The experience made me realize how easy it was to notice "AI" would get things wrong like perspectives, hair, flow of clothing, etc. That experience only somehow lead me back to wanting to do something that I tried to do 20 years ago: 3D modeling and animation. I ended up finding a great tutorial in Blender (Blender Guru) and because I already had experience as a photographer everything started to really click in being able to create amazing scenes utilizing references, lighting and compositing. Since I have found my new hobby I have not generated AI art since. And because I am older and more mature I have better patience to learn new things.
    Nevertheless, I'm glad I've found your channel from this video as I see it will likely help me stay motivated as I learn 3D modeling and animation and maybe I'll finally get back to sketching which I used to do 25 years ago.

A character creator on Picrew is more fun, and even if you're feeding the AI a good data set of like...movie stills and pose references (because I am not about to use other people's art) it still just looks...cold and stiff and unfocused? Like I've commissioned art of my OCs and even when they weren't very on model I still loved them because I could see the effort the person I commissioned put in, and enjoyed seeing my character in their unique style.

They do mean well most of the time, but what these people don't realize is that our artistic abilities are SKILLS, and take years to hone. Sure, some people have innate predispositions to certain abilities that make it easier to develop those into skills, but actual hard work over time is 90% of the end result. And, as the years go on, the "talent" becomes less and less of a contributing factor as trained skill accumulates.

    Well, Generative AI (say, for images) *is* getting better over time. Hands look more natural by now, faces too, and it makes less of those egregious errors it made in the beginning - but it still has this artificial (and often sterile) look to it that is easy to spot. AI art is lacking something that most people can actually feel when listening to their "inner voice". I'm coming from photography (not considering myself being an artist), and I'm not impressed with AI "art" in this area. On the other hand, "AI" tools to improve more technical aspects can be helpful, but prompt generated photos? Nope, not a contender to actual photography. And why should I use AI to generate "photos"? I do photography because I want to actually use a camera to create an image, and shoot things that do (or did) exist, with all their idiosyncrasies. I guess it is the same with artists (and amateurs) in any other artistic realm. If you want to professionalize your art and make money from it, you should be aware of what AI can and can't do, so that you can offer something that is different from AI generated "content" and attracts buyers.

I see it more calmly, for one I'm only a few years from retirement and can just shrug off all threats, and I don't make my living as an artist or someone who's job is easy to do by AI (low-level call-center agents, for example). I do think what I do for a living might be something AI could do at some point, but it is not prevalent enough to be of interest for large companies.

    Art is an outlet of creative fulfillment and nourishment for the soul. There are people that hate artists since we currently live in a capitalistic hellscape where creative endeavors are seen as a luxury product instead of a necessity for mental health, and artists aren't as seemingly miserable as everyone else. "Talent" is a buzz word meant only to discourage humans from being human. This is true in *all* art including acting, vocals, voice acting, etc. "America's Got Talent" is especially guilty of making others feel inadequate in a way that causes them to think (actively) that only the privileged few are capable of creating a beauty.
    Every human is able to develop a creation *SKILL*. Art has never had anything to do with being "born" with the ability to create beauty. If you want to be an artist, you can learn that. If you want to learn to act, you can do that. If you want to learn to sing, you can damned well do that. Amy Winehouse wasn't born with the voice she had... she earned it with hard work and training.

    If you want to become an artist and keep finding yourself giving up, I might suggest trying a different style. I like anime and manga, so I always tried to develop that style. But, I would get bored and move on.
    Recently, I got back into art because of the ai stuff, but I'm drawing in the style of Megamind instead. The exaggerated characters, over-the-top expressions, and dynamic poses seem to speak to me a lot more and are more fun for me to draw.

    democratsing art is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. It's as people call you privileged for having skills they never learned. Yes, it takes time and costs money. But the more time you spend doing it and getting inspired by other artists, the more likely you become more creative. Simply by playing around with multiple styles and techniques you're acquiring while learning the skill. No AI can do this. I'm sure that the more independent artists we have, the happier we are. It could be, that AI can bring that, but the limitations you are facing spreading from misunderstanding (the AI isn't able to process your input) to outright censorship (You're not allowed to think that) by the 'technobro's and/or their CEO's. The suits, the CEO's are destroying art nearly everyehere.You can experience it in writing (especialy in movie/TV), music and painting. When art meets commerce and is sucessful, the Suits stay put to have the biggest piece of the cake. They don' care about the artist and they don't care about the consumer. Maybe it is something like the crypto/NFT goldrush (wich again was orchestrated by suits and greedy celebrities) that's pushing people to get rid of the 'evil' artists and everyone else daring to stand against their business practices.

    I've been looking for artists' reactions to AI art and stumbled upon this channel. Like the people mentioned in the video, I have no visual art skills whatsoever (I'm a musician and I simply didn't have the time to develop other skills) and I like to play around with AI art if I need an illustration etc. How bad does it make me on a scale from 1 to 10?
    I sympathise with visual artists, but let's be honest, there are artistic fields that have been impacted way before yours and way more. Just think of the electronic devices that allow people to make music without being able to play an instrument. This started in the 70s. Nowadays a single person can simulate a 40-piece orchestra with a computer without having to pay a single musician. 99% of soundtracks are produced like that now. I keep seeing artists raging against AI users on youtube, only to see that their videos feature AI-generated licence-free background music and machine-translated captions.
    So where do we draw the line?

    • @TheArtMentor
      @TheArtMentor  6 місяців тому +2

      that's a simple answer isn't it? It's the development methods and implementations. I'm definitely not commenting on all AI. but as I've explored in many of my videos, all AI art was developed with heinous intent and implemented with exploitative measures. If a tech was legitimately developed ethically and responsibly, then That's the line. btw I've never raged on AI, just to empower artists to resist the doomsday rhetoric that's impacting them. I'm just in service of artists, as an artist that doesn't think AI image generators are anything special nor threatening. Does that make sense?

    • @bosco7837
      @bosco7837 6 місяців тому +1

      @@TheArtMentor I personally think everything that involves a computer was developed with heinous intents to make our life deliberately uglier, but that's beyond the point. I think the last thing you, as artists, want to do, is to create an internal war between who is a real artist and who isn't. Laypeople are not concerned with how "art" is achieved. Nobody cares if it took 20 years of art academy or 2 hours of AI prompting to create an illustration. Same way you're not concerned if that drum fill on my record took me 20 years of music school or I have just sampled it from a 1962 song you've never heard of and speed-corrected it with Ableton.
      Art is like a magic trick - you don't see the mechanics of it, you only see the final effect. And if that has an impact, then it's good art.
      Correct me if I'm wrong but this is not the first time visual arts have transitioned from being an entirely theory and skill-based thing to a more concept-based discipline. Some of the great visual artists of the 1900s could not draw a stickman. Richter, Pollock, Hockney... we still go to the museum to see their paintings though, don't we? ✌🏻

    • @TheArtMentor
      @TheArtMentor  6 місяців тому +2

      @bosco7837 you can hold that opinion, but that also has no theoretical backing to it. Only being concerned with the outcome doesn’t make an artwork, it makes an image. I outline the differences pretty well in my videos if you’d like more context. There’s a wealth of scholarship that contributes to my assertions as well. Also, the only thing artists want is to not be exploited like all current ai image generation models do

      @TheArtMentor Yes, specifically assisted tools intended for 2D frame by frame animation, as right now (in movies) it's kind of a dying artform due to the massive workload being too much for most small studios and big studios having completely abandoned it. Even the studios that keep 2D animated movies alive like Cartoon Saloon have had to move to a hybrid approach mixing frame by frame with puppet animation. Now, I have nothing against puppet animation, its a great tool that can be indistinguishable from frame by frame if used right. I use it myself, even using the specific software that Cartoon Saloon uses.... but me and many other artists have a strong passion for frame by frame, even though its time consuming. If the tools can assist enough for passionate small studios to keep the artform alive, that would simply be amazing. There's already a model being worked on that can colorize frames based on a small input size of hand colored frames, effectively allowing you to color a few frames of a cut and then have it finish the rest as long as it's something consistent like finished cleaned lineart of a character getting colorized. Mix that with the tech behind the Klaus movie's shading, and you can get a small studio to make something that looks significantly higher budget than it is.

      Dear people, this is a pure 100% corporate propaganda, a really nice specimen at that. Let's disect it!
      - Start the comment with a "no, you!" argument, totally misrepresenting the message of the video combined with some gaslighting right away.
      - Claim to be "actually one you guys!" in this case clame to be an artist who also uses AI, yet the account has nothing attached to it, not even a profile picture. Just trust me bro without even a proper name!
      - Talking about profile pictures, 90% of AI apologist comment came from people with no profile pics, what is up with that? Does the company who hires people from the 3rd world who speak goon enough English spread misinformation and gaslighting not have setting up images for the bot accounts in the budget?
      - Claim to only see hate from non-AI users while actually implying to be familiar with the topic, I'm giving it a 0% chance.
      - Also use the "scared of technology" argument. The same thing the corporate world claimed after the historic Luddite movement (look them up, anyone! They became one of my biggest inspiration in the last year or so) wasn't happy with the factory owners keeping all the profit for themselves while keeping their workers in poverty. I suppose everyone losing their livelihood so the boss can buy a bigger mansion is being afraid of technology.
      - Dismiss the valid argument against authoritarian regimes the same AI is used the same way to enforce systemic oppression.
      - Slide in the "but hey ho, each to their own" as if what you said was just your personal opinion, like the "it's great that we don't agree, arguments are important" saying, in order to gaslight readers into believeing that it was not corporate propaganda all along.
      - "Projection at its finest man." another piece of gaslighting just to wrap this up nicely.
