Hi Mike, You're right, this one surprises you when it starts up, and I think you're right that this one in 1962 was probably the Winner of quite a few races too, Lou
one year after I was born my Parents bought a brand new 1962 Mercury Monterey. I remember the many camping trips at Lake Months in California taken with my three brothers, Mom and Dad in that car. I do remember my dad saying that he could see the fuel gauge moving when he had to push her to get over those big hills loaded down with camping gear and kids. thanks for the video : )
Hi Bob, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Parents car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. Hope you see many cars on this Channel you enjoy! Please Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this UA-cam Channel, Lou
Clean as a whistle and looking like a rose. What a machine to take for a drive on an asphalt rural trail on a warm day with ample sunshine from dawn to dusk!
Thanks for uploading this video. I've been waiting for this one. I'd take this over the galaxie. These car are pretty rare and this one being a 4 speed makes this super rare. These Montereys shared the same rear sections with the mid-size Mercury meteors.
LOU Mercury is the QUEEN of all the CLASSIC CARS. Thanks LOU for sharing this beautiful QUEEN . I really enjoyed watching the video . Please say hello to the owner .He is taking great care of his QUEEN . LOU THANKS FOR SHOWING ALL GREAT CLASSIC CARS . That is exactly like great classic rock and roll . LOU appreciate your efforts showing all great cars. Please have a wonderful Sunday. Kind Regards HISHAM ELFIKI
Hi Hisham Elfiki, As you know the Channel is grown, and growing. If I do not rely to you it's because the amount of comments coming in is taking hours to reply (which I LOVE doing) I wanted to share that so you don't feel I'm not replying to you. Hope you have a GREAT day. You're welcome, Lou
I'm not a big Ford or Mercury fan, but boy do I love that sound when he rev'd the engine. WOW! My mom, actually had a '73 Mercury Monterey wagon. That was a completely different animal. There was no sportiness to it whatsoever; it was just a family, station wagon. I have no idea what engine was under the hood, though I would imagine it had a V8 of some sort. That was a big car! Thanks for sharing this video, Lou. I'll say it again... gotta love that sound! :)
O.K., I looked it up. The '73 Mercury, Monterey wagon had a 402.1, it says CUI, that I assume means Cubic inch, but I usually see that as CID for Cubic Inch Displacement. Anyway, something in me said it had a 400 under the hood even though I never really knew the size of the engine. Interestingly, then engine was actually called a 400-2V V8, even though it was actually a 402.1 CID/CUI engine. I assume that means it had 2 Valves per cylinder. I found the info. at www.automiblie-catalog.com. There's a section that covers the specs of the 1969-1974 Mercury Full-Size 8th generation.
Wait, it looks like there were three engines available for the '73, Mercury Monterey wagon. there was the 400-2V ( 402.1 CID), the 429-4V (429.2 CID), and the 460-4V (459.8 CID). Now I don't know which engine my mom's car had under the hood, but whatever engine it had, it was a fairly sizable V8, to be sure. Can you imagine, a strictly family car, which that was, to be sure, with a 400+ CID engine under the hood? That's not something you see these days.
You're right Woody, its a rare sight to see all that room where you were once able to get right in with the engine and wrench away. Good times, good times :-)
Although my absolute fave is the 63 Meteor (because my Dad had it when I was a little boy), the 62 Monterey is a very close 2nd (like photo-finish close). The thing that draws me on both of those models is the tail lights; I can't imagine why they didn't go over better with the public. This car has SUCH beautiful lines. I'd sell body organs to have one. Thanks for posting, Lou!!
Congrats on showing this very rare combo, guessing made less than 1000, , owner has it tuned to perfection and when he started it all the 409 Chevys present got a bit nervous. I remember those days and tuning was the key , right timing right carb jets, right plug gap, etc etc, stuff we never hear of today . those cast iron headers are the only way to fly on any car if they can be found.
Hi Captain Tom's Sea Stories, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Hope you Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this UA-cam Channel, Lou
Thank you for posting the video of the Mercury. My jaw about dropped when I saw the manual transmission, I did not see that coming at ALL. Everytime you post a video I see something cool that I would be a sweet ride. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Glad you enjoy this one Shady Jake :-) My jaw dropped when Herb started this one. I did not see that exhaust note coming :-) Thank you for the kind words, as they are appreciated, Lou
i cant wait for you to interview my and my 84two door i mentioned a few weeks ago..greatjob always enjoy your videos lou keep them coming have a great one mercury dave
Lou.... Even though a massive Mopar fan, there's plenty of cars from Ford Motor Company and GM that I like, the '64-65 Ford Thunderbird just to mention two....and I certainly wouldn't mind this Mercury! 😉
A special thanks, Herb and Lou: I like these special (406 engine/4 SPD ) rare cars, I would have given anything for this one; my 1961 Ford convertible 352/auto White Top/red was hard,y comparable , tranny going and rusting out bad by 1967: got a 1965 GALAXIE XL 4 SPD/352.... etc. I suspect the 406 & 4 SPD ( And 3 speed Manuel’s) are Rare in Mercury....
A high performance engine with drum brakes without power assist. Brake fade at speed is something you dont want to experience. One was expected to pay extra for outside mirrors! Thanks for a look at rare Merc.
Siemens in my car has my 61 Thunderbird only differences I have an automatic another for speed so biased to these cars love them brawl other old cars require you to let you know you keep up the great work man enjoy your weekend
