Just so you know the wand tool in CPS actually has a "close gap" setting that will make it bridge gaps in linework with the max size of the gaps being determined by the value it's set to. It's not perfect of course, since it can result in false positives but those can usually be quickly fixed with the lasso tool. But honestly, it's shocking of often close gaps on its own nails it, even with line work that has a lot of intentionally lost edges. The fill bucket also has this close gap feature, as well as the ability to "overfill" the area by a certain number of pixels. This can potentially eliminate the need for a selection in the first place, especially if you intend your lineart to be visible at the end. You can even drag the bucket over multiple areas to fill them all the same color.
Not only that but the colorize feature too and the feature to select all parts that share one color instead of lassoing all the parts of the same color. I hope Marc can implement those quality of life features on his workflow soon!
Also instead of going back to the flats layer to select areas with the same color, you can set it up as a reference layer for the wand tool and it will select stuff from there even if you're on another layer.
lol I end up with a new layer with like every new thing I wanna do. It's probably not the best habit since I start losing track of what's where so I just make another layer and paint over it lol

Honestly (I know this is controversial in the artist world), I’m waiting to see the prices before bashing them. There’s a lot of positives with having monthly payments roll in for us (not the company). The biggest being, they can hire more people and get new perspectives and tool/idea creation. I’m also not backing them because if I have to pay $20 a month to use csp, then I’m out. I’ll figure out sketchbook because it’s free and pretty darn good. Or I might look into art rage or one of those other bigger chunk one payment types.

I really liked seeing a full work flow. I draw a lot, but pretty much never color because it seems intimidating. Seeing a step by step work flow demystifies the process. I'm going to re watch this multiple times as I follow along and color my own stuff. Thanks!

Going from coloring, shading, and lighting on one drawing the way you do in a coloring book to coloring with multiple layers is intimidating especially if you have never used a layering system. However, once you master the program and its tools and get the hang of playing with layers, you'll find its very easy. I've done quite impressive work without using layers. The key is having a good understanding of how light effects an object. Shading and lighting are the most important skills and once you master them you can make anything look good.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I recently spent 10+ hours on a piece but it just seems like it's lacking something, a final, secret thing that could improve the drawing overall. But I just don't know what it is, so I was just waiting till I find out what was lacking. AND NOW THAT I KNOW IT, I'm going to finish it. Thank you very much, teacher Marc.
@Marc Brunet , test the vector layer for your sketch’s and linework… in clipstudio the vector recognizes size pressure and opacity pressure , your drawings will not lose quality (you can set the vector line quality in the vector line options so doesn’t appear pixelated ), you will discover it’s a life saving for flat coloring cause you can set the line layer as reference and in a layer bellow use the paint bucket (you can set to paint until the middle of the vector lines, so you won’t have to select all the sections)… what I do normally is make the lines in vector, set as ref (the lighthouse icon, you find this one in the same area of the lock transparent pixels ), then select outside with the wand and invert selection, make a new layer and put gray, then I use the paint bucket in a layer above the gray one but clipped to the gray layer (to clip you get the layer above and click the icon that is in the left side of the lighthouse icon)…and put all the colors I want in the areas with the paint bucket.
Your " ... new love."? Where have you been, my friend? I stopped using Adobe Suite as soon as they started charging a ridiculous (and, expensive) monthly fee. I bought my first edition of CSP way back when it was still correctly titled Manga Studio Pro back in what, 2014? It, and my second purchase of the CSP software (so I could use it on a total of four computers) was worth every single penny. You're definitely a fellow artist with that quirky personality of yours. Definitely a BIG "Thumbs-up!" from me for your video tutorial. It's always good to learn all the different ways that artists use their favorite software. Thanks for the tutorial!

I have finally gotten a chance to try this colouring tutorial for clipstudio, and as someone who has been using clipstudio for years and have always avoided colour work....it's overwhelming and scary.....i have to say this tutorial is fantastic, very easy to follow, effective techniques and very accessible, entertaining too, i have followed your channel for quite a while now and am delighted to have found this video, i love clipstudio and you have broadened my knowledge substantially. thank you so much!!! keep up the good work!
Marc, your channel is a treasure! Thanks to your videos, my skill has improved SIGNIFICANTLY. Previously, it was very difficult for me to believe that I would one day be able to get close to the same skill league as the professionals, but now I can safely say that I am already on the way to my dream! Thanks for all your videos on the channel, especially for the shading and anatomy lessons. I can't believe HOW much they helped me!
I can not wait to try this on my next drawing. Im always swimming in layers and it make everything feel like a slog. im so hype to try this on my next personal piece.
😮 My jaw is on the floor. It was driving me crazy how every time you open CSP, there’s these BEAUTIFUL examples in the offers and contests the devs made in it, but I couldn’t figure out how they did it because I used to use Gimp, so my own coloring has always been flat and bland. My anatomy needs a lot of work as well!! Now this will be a game changer for me! Don’t know if I’ll win the latest CSP contest, but it’s 4 days to enter. Either way, my fan art just leveled up a bit in quality!

Yess! Finally. Honestly couldn't really work with the tutorials you made with PS because I use CSP but now I can follow each step and try myself. I'll surely do that, thank you.
I very much appreciate these tutorials, and I've even enrolled in the art school program, but in both cases I find myself wanting to see the full shading process, since actually applying these tools for finer details is what really has me scratching my head, and yet we never see it... I understand that they'd be some lengthy videos, but I'd be stocked to have at least one long video where the entire shading process is explained step by step, like how to handle the hair, folds, wrinkles, etc... and which brushes/techniques to use.

This was the best timing for the coloring tutorial Because I've been struggling to color my characters recently this really really super mega helped super helpfull!!!
I am currently getting slowly in touch with your technique, since I always got stuck in heavy detailed outlines and after a while trying to multi layer color something I already spent too much time on, made me often quit midst most of my drawings. But .. BEHOLD - Messias Marc came to the Rescue ! -introducing me to this kind of very clever coloring where decisions of light and shadow are made quite early, and heavy reducing the amount of time and layers I normally work on one drawing. I absolutely adore your UA-cam artschool and since i found you - i am always on board for your newest video. You really helped me improve my skills in so many ways. Although I often thought, I would be too bad at learning something new, when i got frustrated over the amount of pictures I never finished. (Also your previous video was again - a great help to improve there, too. Thank you so much!)

Best guide ever from one of the best artists ever.
And here I was (for 10+ years) putting hair, skin cloth accessories in their own layers
THIS WAS SO MUCH SIMPLER
This gave me a lot of insight into color and shading thank you Marc.
this tutorial is better as the one u did for PS years before AND the explosions ARE MORE EXPLOSIVE Love it!
I have just started to learn about rendering and use Clip Studio. I am so lucky that this video came with such a good timing!
Your " ...
Mr Marc Brunet!!!!
10:00 this is beautiful
Color light
Marc, your channel is a treasure! Thanks to your videos, my skill has improved SIGNIFICANTLY. Previously, it was very difficult for me to believe that I would one day be able to get close to the same skill league as the professionals, but now I can safely say that I am already on the way to my dream! Thanks for all your videos on the channel, especially for the shading and anatomy lessons. I can't believe HOW much they helped me!
the best intro yet
Thank you, Marc-sensei. This has been pretty insightful and was a boost to my confidence in painting 👍
Thank you for teaching us coloring on Clipstudio Paint! I need to take your courses
As a CSP user I appreciate this, I'm switching from classic to Digital with my art and I've been struggling very bad, thank you!!
Thank you so much, i use Clip Studio paint and i can't wait to see your tips about it 🙏
This is genuinely so helpful!! Omg!! I did an art study following this tutorial and it went great, thank you!!!
I can not wait to try this on my next drawing. Im always swimming in layers and it make everything feel like a slog. im so hype to try this on my next personal piece.
Forget about coloring - Marks video editing skills are amazing!
I love this new style of content where you work on a final piece instead on some practice project
Thank you Mark. I didnt realize clip studio is so familiar to photoshop. This demystefied the program for me:)
thanks to your tutorials and constant practice all of the process is getting easier to understand.
Man, I used PS a long time a go however for illustration/Manga and animation Clip Studio es the best I am happy to see that Marc is using it even calling it a new favorite, please do more of this on Clip, I am saving money to get your course!!
This came out fantastic. Love those final touches.
The way he shade to get out of the lineart just looks like magic for me, I do not understand the process and the end is amazing....
I really needed this! I've been finding myself having trouble colouring my work recently, I've been more into line art, but I want colouring to be fun again!
Finally!!! The Clip Studio Paint software video~~~ FINALLY!!!!😭😭😭😭😭
Hi Marc,
I'm just a poor german dude who is trying find his own place in the art scene. I started following your Channel back in 2017 and i always gain new skills after watching your vids so i just wanted to thank you for constantly uploading new tips an tricks and bringing at least a glimps of your knowledge to your community for free.
This video was kind of what i was waiting for. I'm one of those Clipstudio Paint painters and i never got the results i was aiming for.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😁😘
I don't have Clipstudio but it's Marc's class and your art literally hits different and who knows? Maybe some of these tips will really help me so I'm here 😊
It should work great in almost any software ;)
@@YTartschool Looking forward to the video! Ever since I watched your video on taking care of my health, my art has improved tremendously over a day!! You're my favourite art youtuber now :)
How convenient! I'm currently coloring my drawing as I watch this on CSP.
Sucks though they are moving to a pure subscription model which was the reason I quit using Photoshop CC and paid for a "lifetime license" for CSP......
Marc, just as I was wondering what to do for coloring in CSP, you come to save the day. You're an absolute Godsend to us aspiring artists, you deserve your pillow cold on both sides
This video is literal gold 🥹✨
Thanks for the lesson CLIP STUDIO PAINT is the best drawing program!
Yess! Finally. Honestly couldn't really work with the tutorials you made with PS because I use CSP but now I can follow each step and try myself. I'll surely do that, thank you.
clip studio paint is such an amazing software, the difference in quality compared to photoshop is insane
It’s nice but it’s basically Photoshop for 10% of the price. No quality difference.
I very much appreciate these tutorials, and I've even enrolled in the art school program, but in both cases I find myself wanting to see the full shading process, since actually applying these tools for finer details is what really has me scratching my head, and yet we never see it...
I understand that they'd be some lengthy videos, but I'd be stocked to have at least one long video where the entire shading process is explained step by step, like how to handle the hair, folds, wrinkles, etc... and which brushes/techniques to use.
practice tbh.
I would say just find a photo and copy to the best of your abililty.
His tuts on AO shading and volume shading are simple but that is really all there is to it.
He is just a professional
Yes! Thank you thank you thank you!! I've been waiting and wanting you to do a clip studio video! I've needed it for so long
Just wanna say that I love the way you teach. Thanks a lot!! Have a lot of great days, you deserve it!
I recently started learning to draw and bought a graphics tablet yesterday. And looking at all this, it seems so hard and difficult, but I understand that this is exactly the result that inspires me to move on to the dream of becoming an illustrator and a manga artist. Thank you, Marc Teacher
This was the best timing for the coloring tutorial Because I've been struggling to color my characters recently this really really super mega helped super helpfull!!!
Omg I love this teacher so much, I am finally able to study 😭
Thank you so much!)
you don need use de lasso tool, use the bucket, and select close and fill option, test it!
Dam! He actually switched over to clip Studio, I knew I liked this guy!
The extra step is super :)
Esp the pattern on the cape are such an improvement.
Wow you make it look so easy. I've seen a lot of tutorials about coloring before, but they're too complicated for me! I think I'll get there with practice eventually, but for now, I think this would work great. Thank you!
Best tutorial I've ever seen
Been learning digital art with CSP and yer videos for almost a year now, thank you for covering some CSP stuff! Love your teaching style!
I struggle with coloring a lot. Thank you Marc
im so excited to learn more things from you marc! because of you i managed to improve and get rid of my art block
Thank you teacher! I needed help with this. ♥
One of your best videos for sure
wow! finally!!! marc brunet already make a video about clip studio :) I'm always using your method of coloring on photoshop whenever I'm creating illustrations on clip studio paint and the result becomes better and better. And I've also downloaded already your CSP brush hehee
Awesome!..as usual. CSP is great, glad to see it getting some deserved positive attention.
Been wanting to see more of these sort of videos, since I'm using CSP for a while now, so glad to see it is happening
your skills with the program blow my mind haha i cant even figure out the lasso tool
I love you so much :') Every single time I'm stuck with my art, you come a drop a vid that I would happily gobble up.
You can also click "convert brightness to opacity" for the line art layer.
Working on this right now - thanks a lot Marc!!
Love it! Thanks for sharing a tutorial for CSP! Makes it much easier for me to follow!
diuuuuum. After videos like this i wanna sit down and try drawing again.
You're always helping us! Thank you dear!!!
