oh HI there, it's *COUGH* *COUGH* shading time! May your skills be blessed with an upgrade if shading was giving you a hard time. Now, go out there and have a fantastic weekend you hear me?
@@shirosatsuma4946 Ahh, yes, the good old days of blissful ignorance. Michael Bay is one of the most notorious directors in the world. Look him up lmao
Honestly I think this shading tutorial hit something within me. Usually it's just "okay that's usually dark" so I shade it there without thinking much about light sources. It's not an overly bad thing in my opinion but I think I should try looking at light interaction with different stuff more. Thanks.
Yup, I already understand most of the basics and I don't even draw digitally, but I still think it's important to re-explore these fundamental things and I like your approach to it as well. Underrated at 700.000 subs. Short videos that are easy to watch but dense with tips.
Your tutorials have helped me a ton man. I spent like 60 hours on a piece recently and learned a ton but I prefer focusing on a more targeted approach like you suggest! Thanks again!
I know this will probably get lost in the sea of comments, but I really want to say thank you for making these videos for us. Recently, I felt like I hit a bit of a plateau with my art, and I just wasn't improving. Then I found your channel, and I've been practicing a lot of the techniques you teach. I can really see the improvement! I hope that someday fairly soon I can afford to buy your class. If I've learned this much from just your 10-20 minute long UA-cam videos, I'm sure I'd learn a lot from your class.
I always see people posting comments like "Oh, how did you know I needed this? I was just about to look it up when you posted it!" But now I'm that guy. Wild.
Hi, Marc. Thanks for being so inspiring. I've always been the drawing quiet kid at school. But after high school, with my parents' pressure and the idea that you can't live through art, I stopped drawing. It's been more than 6 years. Thanks to you, my passion is reignited and I already made my first full-color digital drawing only using the mouse (it took almost a month tho). So... thank you for all your videos and tutorials. Now I'm saving to buy a tablet and your amazing program. (Sorry if I said anything wrong, English is not my first language)
when I watch shading tutorials they always mention shapes but never explain what to do with these shapes, now thanks to you I finally understood what they meant this video actually made everything look easier!
Thank you so much for all the videos. They help a lot. I'm aiming to be working as a concept artist for games but despite me being 23 already I feel like I dont know anything about art. These Videos help me see how I can improve on stuff I clearly lack.
ONCE AGAIN!!!! You have provided me with another key to setting myself free! USE THE FULL VALUE RANGE!!! FROM BLACK TO WHITE! This gives me complete control of my values and therefore my shapes and forms. Also I am able to use a semi hard brush but I was always warned off the airbrush which is RUBBISH!!! It must not be abused of course but it is as vital a tool as any. THANK YOU SO SO VERY MUCH MARC!!!!!!
REAAAAAALLLYYYYY appreciate your videos, Mr. Brunet! And! Really REALLY appreciate THIS video. As I struggle with shading greatly. Thanks for making so much fantastic content, I throw money at you just for being a constant art teacher in my life! THANK YOU! XD
One of the only art channels I consistently watch a video tutorial on and actually come out less confused than I was going in... Seriously, thats a feat.
Just as I was about to animate something that needed shading for the backgrounds… You uploaded!! Now I learnt how to shade! I’ve been drawing for 10 years and as I’m pretty young, I’m still learning things!! Thank you so much Marc Brunet! 🌱🌱💗
i dont know why but i love the "class is in session pay attention" xDD well marc thank u so much for this videos u dont know how much im learning from your videos, i cant wait to be a professional and shake your hand in the future
This is so good, thank you so much! Would you like to talk about construction and how to learn it, it’s a pretty important fundamental but I don’t see much people talking in depth about it, you are awesome Marc!
hearing 'class is in session pay attention' makes my day xD, really needed to review this topic, got a bit rusty being busy with school, but really helpful video ^^
I love your videos so much, seriously. I'm a very slow learner, but your teaching style makes everything easier to understand. Having high quality art tutorials that actually teach is pretty hard to find. Not only that but its completely free (at least the videos from youtube). Thank you so much for your content!
i love the way you explain things. i've been drawing for years but have always struggled with digital art past cartoons. i'm so glad i found your channel bc now i feel a lot more confident getting back into the kind of digital art i've always wanted to make.
A quick tip for traditional artists. You can make layers by putting your line art on regular paper, then use pages of tracing paper to mimic digital layers. Not good for finished art, but great for practice.
You make It very clear, simple, and concise. I checked out your stuff before, a little pricey. But I like your approach. I can tell you're having a BLAST with that editing :P
This is the first time i actually understand how to get from 'shading simple forms' to more complex forms. Can you make a video on how to simplify certain parts of the body into shapes please? that would help a lot with shading.
You are truly mystic Marc i swear. I'm doing a painting and i started to think how to shade it better, i opened youtube and now you bless me with this video. Every time you put out a video it's in the perfect time and perfest subject for me, that's crazy. 🤣🔮
Happy 4 year anniversary! ✨💖💖💕✨ plus I really love your channel every time I watched it till the very end it always gives me even more courage to draw and to get even better! I’m really glad to find a great art channel! ✨✨✨
Why is it everytime i'm struggling with something or want to focus on improving something, you post a video about it less than 24hrs later? I can't tell you how many times this has happened. I'd say stay out of my head but goddamn has it been a massive help thank you! 😆😆😆💜
I use all ur free brushes!! They're so fun to use!! Also this video ad all your videos are inspiring!! Ty again mr brunet!! :D I finally know the secrets to how they make the characters look 3D, I knew about the bounce light and such things but it always frightened me to try but I'll just do it no matter how it looks!!
Ahhh Thanks, i think i'll try shading later xD. I have a motivation now because of thisss, it's really difficult to me to understand how the shading works. But this video really helps me thank yooooooo.
I originally ended up clicking on this video as it was recommended in in my feed while watching PS tutorials and noticed it was JUST posted today! Wonderful to see you're still actively teaching, can't wait for more of your work! P.S. That intro was absolutely hilarious.
Amazing videos! I was just waiting to see how did you blend the intersection 😭 is there any video where you explain how to shade / contrast intersections or in general every "line" that separate an object or face to another one, thanks for all amazing content.
Oh snap! Sensei dropped a new shading tut :O !! I was about to move to lights, but I guess I'll NG+ my shading and go back to it to apply this new knowledge! Mr Brunet would you happen to have a shading tutorial for shading other rougher or more diffuse materials, ie concrete, denim etc,?
Honestly I wish this was out when I first went to art class. I was completely clueless back then, I didnt even know what any of the fundamentals are and my classmates were much better than me in terms of drawing, it messed with me alot. Its actually a miracle I'm still in the same class till this day. I didnt mean to rant but this was exactly what lil' me needed, I'm trying to start over to improve more in terms of art even if I just consider art a hobby. So what I'm trying to say is, thanks a lot for this! For any other beginner artists or just artists in general who happen to read this comment for some weird reason, I just wanted to say best of luck to you! Even if you feel like your art's not good enough, just remember that it'll get better eventually so just keep practicing and improving! Taking breaks help alot so stay hydrated while you're at it! Again, best of luck! ✨
Hey Marc. Could you explain layers in a future video. When i draw i mostly use one layer because i have no idea how many and for what each layer to use.
It should be added that there are also a large variety of shading techniques, which work better with different artstyles. One of my favorites but also arguably one of the most difficult is hatchwork, essentially making perpendicular lines in various volumes to achieve that gradient look.
Its amazing how it looks easy to see you drawing....shading and painting....best art vídeo tutorials on UA-cam...thanks a Lot...love your ART style.....hope to be in your level one day....
I need to be honest here, i believe that Marc is the best source for learning Art on UA-cam, i know of other youtubers but they simply go to much into unnecessary detail and dont approach the learning Process like Marc does. Marcs process actually reminds me strongly of what is done in VFX Schools. I also believe after seing a bunch of Marcs videos that the hardest part about drawing isnt probably the drawing in itself, more like the understanding and actual combination of multiple Aspects, when it comes to charachter Art, i believe anatomy, perspective, proportions and a "believable" shading with a readable lightsource are the hardest thing to nail. Combine that with a dynamic Pose and you got yourself a challenge. I wonder tho what Marc thinks about Artist who dont really think about the perspective and go of the Pose from the charachter to draw the Background later on. I heard some people (Ross Draws) mention that you always should think about the Perspective since if you just draw a Bed under a laying charachter and arent careful it can look off. Also maybe its possible for Marc to showcase how to use texture brushes. I have an idea how they are used but i wonder how you actually for example combine textured brushes with other surfaces, Lets say you got a scale pattern and then it transitions to normal skin, how do you shade the transition properly.

Yeah, except there's actually a reason for all those explosions in Marc's vid. It's because of his awesome art skills, his screen can't handle it!
