I have a friend that has always only owned a PlayStation. Recently he got a series s and he and I have been playing through the halo campaigns together. Last night he asked about fable and I tried my best to describe why I love these games. I thought it was so funny that you had uploaded this video just the day after. Needless to say I sent this to him immediately haha
Bruh I was on PlayStation for all my life and recently I got a series x me and my friend played all the halo campaigns and he recommended me to play fable and also sent some videos about the game
Always try to find the time to play through this and Fable 2 once every year or so, honestly just such fun games I hope Playground Games knocks it out of the park with the next one
Bro. I was like 12 when Fable came out. It was my first RPG game and it was an escape to another world and as my character aged I remember being like 14 and pretty much in tears just looking at my old character remembering my journey and looking at my scars and Remembering my battles and everything that had happened. It was really immersive and real for me as a game at the time. Ever since then I’m a straight up RPG guy.
Fable was my introduction to RPGs too. I have more nostalgia for this game then almost anything else in my live! I was 9 when it came out, one of the most amazing experiences. The music still being a tear to my eye
"You can get laid in fable" flashbacks to when I was a kid, when my stepfather looked at my character stats in fable 2 and saw I had contracted a few hundred diseases.... that was awkward
This game is truly magical, it was my favourite when I was 7 and over a decade later it is still my favourite. That atmosphere, the choice, the charm and humour written into character, quest but also gameplay. Truly a fairytale. Plus you can become Satan and run a brothel which is just fun.
@@DDuMas same! I grew up on those type of games and missed this some how. Definitely looking forward to getting it for cheaper on G2A and waiting for fable 4
BRO!!! WTF!!?? I shit you not Matty. I literally JUST NOW finished Fable Anniversary! Just a few minutes ago, last boss in Archons Folly. Wow. What a crazy coincidence 🤣
I loved all of them to be honest but the first one always hold a special place. I just hated how maxing out your character meant he would look old and overly big.
I’m now 30 and want to go back and play these. Started out with Fable on the OG Xbox. 2 had the best fighting mechanics. These games were on another level. And as a true Fable fan I thought 3 was awesome. Never understood where the hate came from.
I played Fable 3 a couple of years ago, having never played any of the others, and enjoyed it. This makes me want to try Fable Anniversary. Looks amazing, and super fun.
Yeah, i played fable 3 when i was a kid not knowing anything about it and it was really fun now i see people sayin it was trash and not fable etc i miss the old days when i just played a game without anyone affecting my opinion.
Fable 3 in its rightful context is a pretty fun and enjoyable experience, and I think a lot of the property purchasing mechanics and the overall exploration were tight. Fable 1 is missing nearly all of that refinement, and in many ways is a lot more rudimentary, but you will immediately notice the bedrock on which Fable 3 is laid and I think you'll truly enjoy the experience - with its lumps and bruises of course lol
@@1Sparda1_ maybe because of the time setting, victorian times with muskets must have rubbed people the wrong way. Walter losing his sight was a deep moment and his death, so well done.
I didn't mind 3 but personally I feel like they got caught up with the wrong story. What makes the first game great is you become the most powerful being. In 2 and 3 you are not the most powerful, Theresa is. At the end of 2 Therea says the Spire is now hers which sounds menacing. I believe that the 3rd game should have been about destroying Theresa and becoming the most powerful again, not fighting some weird darkness.
Chamber of fate glitch: Summon a wasp at the bottom of the stair bit, target onto it and push it up the tiers, at the top, assassin rush. If done right you'll fall through the floor, and grab the sword of Aeons. You can do this as soon as you get Assassin Rush and Summon, before you fight Twinblade.
I've already watched this video when it dropped (watching again). It got me so excited to play through Fable another time round...so I grabbed my Fable Anniversary Xbox 360 disc, put it into my Xbox Series X...and immediately felt a sense of familiarity and comfort that I didn't realise I was missing! Cheers Matty 😊
I got this game along with an Xbox for my 10th birthday. My mom really struggled raising 4 kids in a 2 bedroom apartment and I went to year round school so there would be weeks id just be home alone. Playing this game helped shape my understanding of people’s actions mattering in the world. It’s crazy that a game can help teach that to a child! She would go to work and look up secrets or chests for me because she saw how much I loved it. This series has always had a special place in my heart. Now at 28 I’m going to play this again for the first time since then. So much has changed, in some ways life is better and in others it’s harder and worse. I’m sure my mom though not old, couldn’t remember this game or what she once knew it meant to me. I’m excited to experience this all again and try snd capture that tiny piece of my 10 year old soul that exists somewhere down in there.
Matty you're so right about Fable: Anniversary. I feel the same way about fallout: NV. It got a 60 fps update too and i've been having so much fun playing through it again. it runs so much better its definitely worth a playthrough.
I love the arena, especially with the fire blast at max level, I breeze through it. Then there is the one path to the jail where there are zombies that pop up constantly. What a way to increase your stats!
Man I feel this hard. My brother and I also played this game new in 2004 when it was super popular. miss those days. Still a great game and lives up to its reputation.
My favorite thing about fable is how fun it is to just exist in the world. There is so much to do that I can play for hours and make no progress on anything
Love this. I played this on the 360 in 2015 and now downloading on my Series X to see if my old save is in the cloud. Would love to see a Fable 2 2021 review!
Those “will tattoos” are rune markings. Such a genius idea. Fable to me is still the game that pioneered the moral based story and character development in video games. At that time there was nothing like it. Shout out to Peter Molyneux and the team at Lionhead Studios. Been a Fable fanboy ever since
This is one of your best. I particularly loved the singing in between. LOL oh snap;.. man hoar. LOL I cannot. I really hope these concepts are not lost in the reboot of Fable I loved all of the Fables. ITs really a game that tried to innovate a lot of ideas and had so much charm.
I probably have replayed this game more than anything. The simplicity makes it easier to approach again. Completely mastered grinding the player to the max before even accepting the wasp quest 😂 Side note, love the soundtrack. Been in my music library for over 13 years. Listen to it while reading fantasy books.
My dad works out of town and I got my Xbox in 2003 for my first communion. He took it with him one time and came home with a new game and was like "Youre ready for this. Tell me what you think." WOW! I love Fable.
Appreciate the content! Fable is one of my all time favorite games. I recently got a Xbox Series X and Fable: Anniversary looks incredible on it! It plays really smooth as well.
I remember playing fable on my xbox as a kid and loving it. I made sure to play through it all again. Its great. One of my favorites. Hopefully the new one is just like the first one mechanic wise cuz that was the best version of it in my opinion.
I agree 100 percent that the soundtrack is what really makes the game. All BGS games and Halo wouldn’t be the same without their fantastic soundtracks.
Started playing again. My favorite game. Full good last run, full evil this next run. I love how you mention the music because Danny Elfman's music fits so well. I'll show people this video to convince them to play.
I got fable for Christmas in 4/5th grade and my life was never the same. It has ALWAYS been in the rotation of games I am playing. It is just that good and I will cherish the memories playing it for the first time.
I really get into this type of game. The more I can craft and customize the path I take through a game, personalizing the experience for my own whims, the more I get immersed and enjoy myself. The KOTOR games have the same thing going for them. Dark Souls games, too. The more individualized one person's journey through a game can be, the better in my book. Deep RPG systems that are integrated into both combat and story narrative are just so engrossing. It's kind of rare to find games that make the player's choices relevant to BOTH combat AND story. Takes more thought and planning as a developer, I'd imagine.
I love the gameplay style of Fable. Can get annoying when I lose my combat multiplier but other than that, I think the gameplay still holds up well for me. I played the Steam version and got all achievements for it. I personally recommend the Steam version for mod support and for full access to all achievements since the Xbox 360 version has one exclusive achievement that the Steam version changed that is currently unobtainable. One of my favorite games.
It is so funny you cover this game now. I just restarted my fable series run 4 days ago. Lol. It's like we are on the same wave length........... speaking of which are you starting to get a Fallout 5 conspiracy vibe as of late. I don't know about you but I feel like there is "winds from east. Mist rolling in. I got a feeling, that's something about to begin." Lol
I personally love the combat. I agree that it could use a little refining, but I think the getting knocked on your ass things serves the purpose of showing that while you are an impressive badass legendary warrior, you only got there because you have defeated equally badass and terrifyingly powerful creatures out there that normal people couldn't even dream of fighting, let alone stomping into the dirt. And on a mechanical level it's kind of a punishment for not nailing down the combat mechanics. You get flattened by a rock from a troll/golem/thing and knocked on your ass for not synchronizing with his throws. You get knocked down by a balverine for not dodging its rush attack. You get knocked around by hobbes and their powerful magic blast. I agree it doesn't feel fluid, but fluidity in a system should come from mastery of that system, not necessarily by rewarding failure and I think that's kind of what a lot of games in today's world do is they don't allow people to fail and so they think they're better than they really are, and Fable: TLC didn't hold your hand like that. In many ways its games like Fable and the older Legend of Zelda games that inspired later games like Dark Souls. Where do you think the concepts of punishing you for being bad came from? From these old school games. I personally think that seeing an updated and refined version of Fable's combat would be one of my favorite combats to exist in video games. In fact if you want to see what a refined version of Fable's gameplay would look like, ironically you shouldn't look at its sequels, instead I would recommend checking out Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The combat in that game feels like a much more fluid and natural progression from Fable 1 than even its own sequels which I felt cheapened the combat experience by giving unlimited will power to do unlimited spells, over simplified the entire magic system, and literally gives you a gun which is objectively better than the swords and magic and idk I just didn't care for Fable 2 or 3 as much as a result. But yeah that's my take on it.
Keep up the good work man, love your videos bro! You and like two other people are who I go to for opinions on games, and if you guys like them, then I know I will haha thanks for doing what you do
Excellent review, I do thin personally that the art style in the Anniversary edition isn't as well executed when comparing to the original. While more dated playing the original instead of the remaster is the ideal way to play.
I went full “good” for the Angel wings, but then I needed to be evil fast, so I ate a ton of crunchy chicks! This is a wonder classic, and the sequel was even better thanks to the expressions, demon doors, and especially the dog. Too bad 3 was a step backwards.
This is a series I wanted to love but it wouldn’t let me. It has so much potential and I feel like each game they just threw it away and told someone to burn it.
Fuckin love The Fable series.. And I accept the older games flaws. One of the first games I played at 5 years old and through out my teens. Now as an adult I just started fresh on PC... Thank you for making a video because it really is being slept on. If it got more attention from content creators then maybe it would help get Fable II and III to be more accessible on PC.
Fable was amazing man. And when fable two came out being able to couch co op the game was amazing. Me and my friend were snowed in for 4 days just playing it all day. Good times. Fable 3 was butt
The Sword Of Aeons is my all time favourite fantasy sword. Yeah okay I have always been obsessed with the original Fable so it's nostalgia driven but COME ON MAN its sooo cool.
Such a great game that still holds up. The BEST of the OT of Fable. Only one truly worth a damn. The magic, armor, medieval setting, VILLAINS, Heroes etc. Man, I doubt PG will come close.
Matty your channel and Defining Duke are both wonderful. That shirt, however, can burn in Hell. Not my kinda Duke. (likely a very affluent Hell with many Bezos type figures, but Hell nonetheless). So glad the Fable series is hopefully returning into the limelight, the original trilogy were a treat.
definitely sold me on the game, lets see if the product lives up to the word of the people. i remember playing fable as a very young child but not really understanding where to go or how to enjoy a fantasy game. i never had enough time or resources to play the games i wanted for how long i wanted at that time. but i do have a very nostalgic memory of the limited experience i had.
I loved the original (it was somehow less uncanny with outdated graphics ) but one thing the anniversery does better is letting us rome the world after the final boss. Also the demon doors were at their best in the first game in my humble opinion, particularly the evil door. Either have high evil or eat a buncha crunchy chicks in front of him. I love that he even says something different.
I recently downloaded fable on my series x. i can't wait to dive back into it!! i remember being in middle school when fable dropped on the og xbox and i played the crap out of it!! If xbox had achievements back then i definitely would of had all of them.
Lol okay so first of all, the love for Fable automatically earns you my like and sub. That said, I laughed my ass off to your arena comment because just once drags you down? Man, try having an addiction to it for the glitch (not anniversary) and doing it at least 20 times before you're afraid of corrupted save files so you press on xD
I have to disagree with the majority. Three wasn’t the nail in the coffin. It was Journey, Heroes, Coin Golf, and the cancelled Fable Legends. Lionhead’s choice to milk a franchise instead of delivering a AAA true Fable experience. Personally, I recommend revisiting 3, and all it’s DLC. Especially if you can share the moment with a friend, I found the game extremely enjoyable. While there were some odd features I didn’t care for such as the procedural loot system, or the odd menu navigating system. But the story, hilarious quests, voice acting, soundtrack, should not be overlooked.
I remember sinking countless hours into this game, getting rich using the house selling trick with your trophies, hunting down all the collectibles, armour and weapons. I remember "romancing" Lady Gray for an entire weekend with no result. I'd read about the black rose & the cycling of gifts to win her over, but despite throwing hundreds of jewels & chocalates, the answer was always no. Then I re-read the forum. You have to proposition her in her bedchamber. I'd been doing it in the street where I was giving her millions in gifts. Apparently, it's still pretty hit & miss, but when I went to the bed, she never said no. Must've been the horrendous amount of gifts I'd already given her. There's a life lesson right there. The thing I appreciated about Fable is you can go full good & full evil & back again in the same playthrough. Too many RPG's try to lock you down to a style & you have to go back & play again to try another style. This lets you do it all in one & even incentivies it: the more evil you are, the more credit you get for your donations to the church, so it's cheaper to get their ultimate reward. The more good you are, the more credit you get for sacrificing victims to the devil worshippers. We need a Fable 2 release for PC.
I will usually do a good run and evil run in games that give you the choice. Fable is one of the few games that actively rewards commitment to one or the other. Most games I have played will give small rewards for individual evil choices but overall punishment for playing evil.
I miss Fable 2 camping out at the town market with around 20 other people trading darth dolls and other rare items with people such simple times man i loved it
Huge spoilers about the sister! I didn’t know she was the blind lady from the other games since I haven’t played the first one yet. That kind of ruined a bit of it for me. I would have enjoyed finding that out.
Easy way to play this game is just to set up a magically shield that sucks up your magic instead of health. Start focusing on getting magic potions and you become pretty broken since your combat multiplier keeps building which means you get more experience faster and halfway through the game you're already maxed out. You also don't get knocked down since you're shield is always up.
yeah I played a lot of Fable on xbox 15 odd years ago. So I picked it up on Steam for a song (Fable Anniversary). Starting all over again. Fortunately, I have forgotten most everything.
Fable is absolutely one of my favorite games ever. I was super stoked when Anniversary dropped in '14. I try to play through it once every year or so. I really hope that Playground knocks this next one out of the park.
Can’t believe I’ve never tried this series. I am a life time Xbox fan and I’ve played all their exclusives except for this. Also super into medevil Fansty. Sounds perfect for me definitely gonna try it iut
Series X is my first Xbox. I’m so curious about this game. I’ve never been a fan of the ol’ times stuff. I’m definitely a sci-fi guy. I downloaded it from Game Pass. I’m considering playing it. This video helped as I had no idea what it even was; just that it’s a very loved Xbox exclusive. Hopefully it’s not overrated like Halo is.
It would've been awesome if Fable was rotated around inside of microsoft and landed on Bethesdas plate. Would be awesome to see them create a third person rpg in the art style and world of Fable.
Wow I’m pretty convinced. Always thought the game case looked cool when I was young, but never got to play it, but when I get the series x I’ll def play it now

Please…..for the love of everything that is holy…..playgrounds …….dont fuck it up ….just please
Keep up the good work man, love your videos bro! You and like two other people are who I go to for opinions on games, and if you guys like them, then I know I will haha thanks for doing what you do
First game I ever played the game just was full of love from the devs there was just so muych charm to the game
I just realized I only ever played the 3rd one and was wondering if the first would be worth playing. Perfect timing for this video!
Just started playing this on my phone, game is still fantastic imo. When times were better.
Excellent review, I do thin personally that the art style in the Anniversary edition isn't as well executed when comparing to the original.
While more dated playing the original instead of the remaster is the ideal way to play.
Might be my nostalgia talking, but I'd urge people to play Fable TLC over Anniversary
Same way I felt. I played thru them all and just thought they were "meh" ok i guess
Mr Matty damn you! This amazing video is going to make me start another game!
You should always have that shield spell on to get that combat multiplier up bro. Especially in the arena.
Gonna try Fable on the Xbox Game Pass! 😁😁
Thanks for the spotlight

Just replayed fable for the 3rd or 4th time. Its just pure fun from beginning to end. Its hard to describe what makes it so good.
I find it so hard to play as an evil character, I have tried to but end up playing a good play through.
Your just a good dude bro
same here XD
The music. The music is what gets me. ugh it is so nostalgic
Fable 3 was actually pretty good from what I remember but its been forever since I played 3 or any fable game
Why thank you for the compliment about me being the best villian (I love fable and based my whole UA-cam Channel based on it lo)
Just starting play Fable on Xcloud. There is a style to this game unseen in modern games. Really enjoying so far!
*i dont understand why people hated Fable 3 so much, i had a blast with it.....not as good as the first one but DEFINITELY better than 2.*
Lies and blasphemy
definitely sold me on the game, lets see if the product lives up to the word of the people. i remember playing fable as a very young child but not really understanding where to go or how to enjoy a fantasy game. i never had enough time or resources to play the games i wanted for how long i wanted at that time. but i do have a very nostalgic memory of the limited experience i had.
This game captured my adventurous childhood so well. Such a good game. Damn
I agree fable 3 wasn’t too bad
Dude I am so glad you made this video, not enough people played this game and I take that personally!
Hero, your will energy is low, watch that.
I miss Fable 2 camping out at the town market with around 20 other people trading darth dolls and other rare items with people such simple times man i loved it
Finally, some recognition for the GOAT - Fable 2004
Huge spoilers about the sister! I didn’t know she was the blind lady from the other games since I haven’t played the first one yet. That kind of ruined a bit of it for me. I would have enjoyed finding that out.
Is it weird that I actually enjoyed Fable 3?
I enjoyed it but it does not beat 1/2 in my opinion.
My best childhood game I ever played!
Fable is absolutely one of my favorite games ever. I was super stoked when Anniversary dropped in '14. I try to play through it once every year or so.
I really hope that Playground knocks this next one out of the park.
I was obsessed with anything involving this game back in 2004. Hehe Chapel of Skorm to get the bow and then betraying Thunder and Whisper good times!
I’ve never played Fable at all, definitely going to jump in.
I just got my friend to play fable anniversary and I can’t wait to see what he thinks when he’s done
@@BoxingDawg you just told me that I got my friend to play fable and mentioned how I can’t wait to see what he thinks when he’s done
It would've been awesome if Fable was rotated around inside of microsoft and landed on Bethesdas plate. Would be awesome to see them create a third person rpg in the art style and world of Fable.
I was thinking this.
One of my favorite things was how your appearance changed based on your morality.
I really wish more games did that.
Wow I’m pretty convinced. Always thought the game case looked cool when I was young, but never got to play it, but when I get the series x I’ll def play it now
I see fable, I click play…
I have never played fable simply because I was never able to get around to it and it was always in the back of my mind, well this has convinced me to give it a try
