I've been playing some Harry Mudie today. Lovely productions. You are one of the originals for sure there. Hope all is good with you in the Netherlands. Thanks for watching my video and leaving a comment. Cheers, Steve.

Great collection. One of the top dub albums played on sound systems back in the mid to late 1970s was Keith Hudson's - BRAND album. The dubs to his Rasta Communication album, well worth checking out...Mikey Dreads - Dread At The Controls was also a influential label as regards dub albums. Many of the Kingston studios released dub albums, too many to mention. The Congos album, is probably amongst the greatest albums ever produced, not only in Reggae circles but the history of music production. Lee Perry's fastidious attention to detail has ensured that classic album reached masterpiece status...

Thanks for dropping by. I love Brand - I’ve got the Pressure Sounds reissue. I had no idea it was played on sound systems. A seriously heavy vibe to that album. I really like My Eyes Are Red/ Bloody Eyes. I have no Micky Dread productions at all so will seek out. I agree with you about the Congos. When best albums lists are compiled, it never gets on them. It is just as beautiful and ground breaking as Pet Sounds but gets ignored because it is reggae. How Lee Perry created the sound is the stuff of legend. A unique and gifted producer. We are lucky to have the Heart of the Congos. Cheers, Steve.

Hey Steve, great collection of reggae records. Compltely agree about Horace Andy. Love Augustus Pablo too, esp Rockers Uptown. I recently shown Burning Spear. Love Screaming Target, great toasting. I got to go deeper into Keith Hudson. You know your stuff.

Cheers Lou - I would definitely get Pick a Dub and Flesh Of My Skin. A lot of people like Rasta Communication as well. I have no Burning Spear on vinyl but a few on CDs. Social Living is my favourite one. Thanks as always for watching.

With Burning Spear, Social Living is the best😀 I just ordered Pick A Dub, two lp set with 8 bonus tracks. Is that the one you have? The Barrett brothers just sounded so good on the clips I heard that I just had to get it.

Good man Lou. I hope Pick a Dub gives you a lifetime of listening pleasure. I have the two LP set as well with the bonus tracks. Have you got Congos? That is a life changing disc. Ha, ha, don't you know that social living is the best. Cheers.

I recently sold my copies of every one of those Studio One albums you showed there, and my copies were actually purchased by me in person at Studio One itself back in 1991 for about $4 U.S. each. I rarely played them, because I had copied them to tapes and then later to mp3, so i sold them in basically new condition. I sold them for between $10 to $20 U.S. each. I think the Wailing Souls I sold for $30 because it was the one I least wanted to let go. I guess I could have made more money from them if I were in England or Germany or something. But I live in Hawaii.

That Wailing Souls record is so beautiful. We’ve all had to let records go from time to time. Hope you still listen to Studio 1 stuff. Cheers.

Psych in the Valleys - Yeah i just can't keep carrying vinyl records around with me. Need to downsize because I'm nomadic. I think the best Studio One record of all time is Studio One Presents Burning Spear. I also love the riddim that Heptones "In a Groove" and Sugar Minott's "Hang On Natty" are recorded on. That Wailing Souls record truly is nice too. That music suits the Jamaican countryside perfectly.

Studio 1 presents Burning Spear is an incredible release. I have the Soul Jazz reissue. Will dig it out today for a listen. Cheers Echo Trip.

I've been meaning to do a video spotlight on the Pressure Sounds label, I did one on Blood & Fire a while back and envisioned it as a series of videos but got sidetracked with new finds episodes. I try and include some reggae on my channel whever possible - it is a big part of my collection though I'm only picking up new stuff to show intermittently. That Derrick Harriott is one of the few Pressure Sounds titles I never picked up for some reason. The Mittoo photo on the Soul Jazz comp was taken as he was about to depart for Canada I believe. Just picked up the original 7" of Horace Andy's Skylarking at a record fair the other weekend. Bob Andy's Song Book is one I've never owned on vinyl, absolute classic for sure. First dub album, nobody's 100% sure but Blackboard Jungle is in there with Aquarius Dub, Dub Serial, Prince Buster's The Message Dubwise etc., they all started appearing around the same time period. I did a special on Keith Hudson as well, got a comment from his son on it. Terrific picks all, can't argue with your top choice, likely one of my favorites too of any genre of music, a life changing record for sure. Still remember hearing it for the first time, basically with my mouth open in amazement. Cheers!

Cheers - really cool story about Keith Hudson's son. I got into Keith Hudson via the Studio Kinda Cloudy comp. Such a rich catalogue that was sadly out of print for far too long. I remember getting a comp where all profits when to his family. Nothing prepares you for Pick a Dub. I really like some of Glen Brown's productions - very quirky and catchy. The Congos has magical properties for sure and maybe one of the best albums to be released of any genre - I agree with you there. Really miss Blood and Fire - Steve Barrow always replied to my emails no matter how trivial they were. I would love to see your top 20 if you get time. Thanks for a great reply. Your vids are always so knowledgable. Will dig deep for your Keith Hudson special.

Cheers Trish, I only just spotted your comment so apologies for not replying before. Thanks for taking the time to watch. I’m hoping to do another reggae video soon - maybe on the great Pressure Sounds label. Reggae has a big following in the UK and I got into the sounds by finding a copy of Lee Perry’s Reggae Greats on Island Records - organic and slightly psychedelic rhythms was right up my street. Then, a couple of years later, I got a copy of Heart of the Congos and it was life changing in my musical journey. Hope you’ve heard it or get to hear it. It is a gift for us all.

Hey. Great video, mate! Some heavyweight classics in there but also some that I haven’t heard, so a few to check out. You’re right about “Heart Of The Congos”. Just a perfect record from start to finish. “Macca Fat” is another favourite and, as you say, one of The iconic reggae covers. I like a lot of British reggae so, if you haven’t heard it, check out Aswad’s “A New Chapter Of Dub”, which is probably my favourite British Dub album. Subscribed. Cheers. John

Many thanks for the kind comments. Heart of the Congos is perfect and the Blood and Fire issue was my first taste of it. Lee Perry created a true masterpiece. I will definitely get a copy of the Aswad album and let you know what I think. I only have a few British reggae albums, including some Ariwa releases and a couple of Steel Pulse. I would like to see a nice Tippa Irie comp. His vocals on The Bug's Angry is mind blowing. Cheers for subscribing. Steve.

Met Horace Andy, he is fantastic. Got a picture with him he had a spliff in his mouth.

That must've been quite an experience to meet him. I have seen him perform, many years ago with Massive Attack. What a voice. I always think that Wayne Jarrett has very a similar vocal at times. Thanks for watching the video. All the best, Steve.

Very nice picks, and good to see that someone else loves Keith Hudson as much as I do! But.... No Prince Far I? (Ha ha)

    • @psychinthevalleys5324
      @psychinthevalleys5324  6 років тому

Prince Far I is a glaring omission who should"ve made the list. Good call there. Keith Hudson - just love the tight, sparse sound on Pick A Dub which feels so rich at the same time. A true pioneer and I quite like his voice. Especially on My Eyes Are Red. A class act for sure. Cheers Metal Theologian.

Great list.... but 20 that's not enough to cover it all... what about Lee Perry's superape, Gladiators at Studio One, Carlton & the Shoes, Abysinians' Forward, Justin Hines Jezebel, Rico's Man from Warika, Jazzbo's Ital Corner, Naggo Morris & H Andy on Wackies, Scientist dubs albums,...Lennie Hibberts Creation, Ras Michaels Tafari, Ijahman Hail Hymn, Cedric Brooks Flash Forward, LKJs Dub album, Barrington Levi Bounty Hunter, will stop typing. Only a top 100 list will justify the genre.

I agree with you there. You list some wonderful albums there. Ive never heard Justin Hinds Jezebel but I hear a lot of good things about it. I remember Doug at the awesome Fat City Vinyl talking about. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best, Steve.

Jezebel is a well crafted masterpiece. Robbie Shakespear on bass and Horsemouth on drums, Earl Smith on guitar. Production quality is exceptional (Jack Ruby). Horns section with ao. Dirty Harry.... Soulfull album, kinda connected to the era when the movie Rockers was made (you have seen that one right?).

I’ll never understand why people like Big Youth. He’s so repetitive.
