    There’s a whole lotta heartache in that small pile of records. I have to agree with your wife in the Otis is my soul singer of choice. You can always hear the cry in his voice. You believe him. Take care. Cheers. John

      A whole pile of heartbreak indeed. Ben E King's It's All Over is briliant and only a few quid to buy. Love that song so much. Agree about Otis - totally convincing. James Carr must be one of the saddest sounding singers. Even in his more uptempo numbers. OV Wright great as well but you never see him being mentioned on the VC. Hope all good with you.

    Absolutely love deep soul. The CD series Dave Godin's Deep Soul treasures is the greatest compilation series of all time. I'm guessing youve got it as a few of those youve shown crop up on it. My favourite is 'Barbara & the Browns 'I dont have to wait; which is a jaw dropper. In fact youve just shown something off the Soul City label which i think Dave Godin owned? I've just picked up a Theola Kilgore's 'This is my prayer' on 7" which is a deep soul gospel mindblower. great video.

    • @psychinthevalleys5324
      @psychinthevalleys5324 2 місяці тому

      @Harrispilton22 I think the Deep Soul Treasures comps are the best comps ever. The quality never drops. I also like that they place real obscurities with more well known songs (which feel so much deeper despite being heard so many times). Tracks of my Tears is a good example. Now, I love that Barbara and the Browns track. One 45 I would love to own is Ruby Johnson's I'll Run Your Hurt Away. I've never heard that Theola Kilgore track before. What a cracker that is. One of my favourites is that Ben E King 45 I showed, what a performance. You are spot on, my deep soul 45s have nearly all been shaped by the Dave Godin comps. All the best to you and thanks for taking the time to leave such an interesting comment. Cheers, Steve.

    Sorry to hear about your friend. It's hard to pick a favorite VU record, but I would say most people would say that record is perfect. How I Quit Smoking I think is the Lambchop record I like the most as well. I think that is a good Beefheart record also.

      Hi Kris, thank you for your kind words - to lose a friend of the same age is difficult to comprehend. He was loved by so many. It is hard to choose a favourite Velvets. Nice to see you Steve. Interesting bunch of records. Sorry to hear you lost an old friend recently. It's music which solidified my teenage friendships, and there is a handful of records which I can't listen to without remembering specific friends and good times. I was a huge R.E.M. fan back in the early 90s. I know that Murmur gets all the kudos, but I always preferred their later IRS albums from Reckoning on. There are incredible songs on Murmur, but there are a number of them which never resonated with me. Too much reliance on repeating the song title over and over for the chorus. But hey, it's still a great record. I think Mr. M was the first Lambchop album since 1998's What Another Man Spills I passed on. That's not that Mr. M is in anyway a bad Lambchop album, it's got some lovely orchestration, but it was a formula they'd done better before. Ironically, I very nearly bought Mr. M just the other day. I'd like Flotus more without the autotune effect on Kurt's voice. Everytime I see your collection of old transistor radios, I'm reminded of a comic called Starman. The writer, James Robinson, wrote the main character, Jack Knight, as a collector, buyer and seller of antiques and collectibles. In one issue an old Batman villain called Copperhead visits Jack's shop and reveals himself to be a collector of early transistor radios. I suppose it was something Quentin Tarantino did when he wrote dialogue for his characters, giving them a humanity beyond simply talking in exposition. Who knows, maybe The Joker might be a collector of Victorian Punch and Judy puppets? Sorry, for the ramble. Cheers - Hed

    • @psychinthevalleys5324
      @psychinthevalleys5324 4 місяці тому

      Hi Hedley, thanks for your kind words. Your message made me laugh. I still pick up the odd transistor radio every now and then. I've fixed a few along the way. There is a really good extended interview with REM just uploaded onto UA-cam. Recorded last week I think. Really interesting. I never saw them live but my sister saw them at the leisure centre in Newport on the Green tour! Mad to think they were playing venues like that. I often return to their run of records - Fables is a favourite. My mate adored REM. It can be hard to listen to songs that take you back but it is also nice to know they are there if you need them. I quite like Mr M but it did nothing for me for years. I know what you mean about FLOTUS. It would've been a lot stronger without that voice effect. Still some hidden beauty in there - especially those gorgeous lyrics in the Hustle. All the best to you. Steve

    Hi, enjoyed the video, some great records and the Prunes album is a top find! I agree with you on the electronica records and I’ve plenty in my collection, folk on the VC tend to prefer ‘guitar’ based music in general so drag out them bleeps! I will drag them out. I was only listening to the Black Dog the other day. Temple of Transparent Balls. Love Cost 2 from that record. Beautiful track. Finding the Electric Prunes was a treat. Hi Steve. Great to see you. I’m a big fan of Flotus but have never heard Mr M. That one must have passed me by at the time. My sister went to see PJ Harvey do a book reading towards the end of last year. It was up north somewhere so she stayed in a hotel afterwards. The following morning she quite literally bumped into PJ Harvey in the queue for breakfast. I think Polly must pave been slightly too eager to get to the black pudding. Always great to see you, Steve. I am sorry to hear about your friend. It helps having records which remind us of people, however bittersweet it can feel listening to them. I just sampled the Beefheart mono and stereo again seeing you mention it. Although it is probably just a fold down and the stereo is brighter and clearer in places, I really like the flat, boomy quality of the mono. But, I'm no audiophile... Anyway, Vindaloo! Vindaloo! Hi Stephen Great seeing you. Lovely way to begin with Murmur..that's the only REM album I ever play these days..beautiful album. The self titled Velvets is definitely my favourite along with the debut..lovely mellow vibe to the songs and then the weirdness if Murder Mystery. Listening to a lot of PJ Harvey this last year or so, she really clicked with me. Lovely OG press there of The Electric Prunes debut, I could never find their albums do ended up getting the CD boxset..Underground is probably my favourite. We must have a meet up again this summer. All the best. Rob.

      Hi Rob, great to hear from you. Murmur is lovely - it takes me back to being 16 again. When that record hooks you, it is very special. There is a newish record shop in Hay called Tom's Records. He has got some good folk LPs in there right now but specialises in jazz. Really nice chap as well. Maybe we could meet up again there at end of Aug when the tiny record fair arrives. Hayden's shop is still there and as good as ever. I was surprised to find the Electric Prunes - the lady had some fantastic records but I had nearly everything. She had early Bob Dylan mono records which are harder to find nowadays, along with nearly every Bowie LP. Decided to buy an Air Raid Warden's helmet instead! All the best, Steve.

    That was quite a noise you getting out the chair Steve. It's becoming more interesting seeing what people listen to not so much what they find. Sorry to hear about your mate all those memories come flooding back...... I too lost a mate 3-4 years ago with a huge collection though mainly CDs. Another gave me tons of vinyl and I felt bad so gave him a rare Julian Cope book in return as compensation. Weird thing was I sold him most of those records. That Seeds original is wonderful to see, even reissues are a bit scarce these days. Same goes for the Bonzos LP. Never knew it had a booklet. Always loved its creepy cover photo. I think Eno’s ambient recordings work best on CD but it sounds like you scored a bargain there. Keep the flag flying! John.

      Hi there, hope you have had a nice Christmas. It has been ages since I made a video but it is great to chat about music again. That Bonzos album is great - so much fun. Would've loved to have seen them live in all their pomp. You don't see a Seeds original that often so I had to grab it. It was reissued many times in the year after its intial release. I remember grabbing one back in 1991. I got the Chocolate Watch Band's Inner Mystic at the same time. Funny how record buying sticks in the mind. All the best, Steve.

    Happy new year Steve! Lovely 45 finds. Funny I just had Mudie's Mood on my mind the other day, might have to listen to that again. Other than it and the dub albums I have very little Mudie productions on vinyl unfortunately, though quite a bit on cd-r - really has a unique sound doesn't he. I've tried to pick up as many of those Steve Barrow Trojan comps as I can but Let Me Tell You Boy is one I've never come across here. I got that Glen Brown and it did not disappoint - haven't compared it with Termination Dub but I recall a quote from Glen where he said he would get multiple mixes of his tracks from Tubby's, a likely explanation for the provenance of these tunes. I might have A Web Of Sound around but some sort of 80's reissue I think. Cheers!

      Happy new year Doug. That Rhythm Rulers album is ridiculously good. Songs of the highest quality. That instrumental of The Drifter is particularly good. There is not a lot of Harry Mudie about reallly. I did pick up another Dub Conference record back in October. I've been listening to a lot of Cornell Campbell recently. I picked up that cheapy RSD Greenwich Farm Sessions on Jamican Recordings. It is a delight with some of his best material. Anyway, I wish you and your family all the best for 2024. I'm looking forward to Spring aleady. Cheers, Steve.

    Happy new year Steve, nice showings. I picked up a Best of Them CD last year after reading a Van biography, great stuff. Also got reacquainted with the Gorilla album by the Bonzos on vinyl. Totally agree about the Eno CD/vinyl issue! Have often fallen asleep to Apollo. Hope all is well.

      Hi James, happy new year to you. Those early Them singles are great. I also like the early Downliners Sect singles. I think they are the rawest of those mid 60s UK bands. Wishing you all the best for 2024. Hope many lucky vinyl finds await you. All the best, Steve.

      Hi Pete, hope you had a nice Christmas and a happy new year to you. I really like the Harry Mudie comp - not been far from my turntable since the summer. So many good songs and instrumentals on that one. Hopefully catch up at a record fair soon. All the best to you. Cheers, Steve.

    Hey Steve. Some excellent charity shop finds there. The Mudies comp is definitely a harder one to get. Your copy looks in great nick too. You can’t go wrong with Eno for a fiver. I think there’s something to be said for listening to his ambient albums on CD rather than vinyl. My copy of Apollo plays with lots of pops an clicks, which take something away from the atmosphere of the album. Goo to see you. Happy New Year!

      Happy new year! I said I would make a video when Swindon won. They promptly lost again today. Not buying any more ambient on vinyl - CD format rules for that. The Mudies comp is terrific - so many killer songs but that Cornell Campbell song is beautiful. Let's Start Again has such a nice sentiment. I picked up a couple of Cornell Campbell LPs in the summer. An artist I had somehow overlooked. Such a soulful voice. Wishing you all the best for 2024. Next video will be when the town win again.....

    Great to see you again Steve. Lovely set of finds as usual, continuing my education. Love that Seeds cover and inner - great condition. Moving Percussion looks lovely. I'm finding ambient records often sound better on CD as it's really hard to get a quiet pressing. Have a great New Year and see you again soon I hope, cheers Dale.

      Happy new year to you Dale. The Seeds album is great - quite consistent as well with no real filler. Ambient on vinyl is not a great idea really….you have to get up to turn it over. All the best to you and I hope 2024 brings lots of new vinyl finds for you. Cheers, Steve.

      Happy new year Jon to you and your family. It is surprising what 45s still turn up in charity shops around here. I guess there are a lot less people looking for them in a small town. I really like that Flamin Groovies record. Also love the Shake Some Action LP. So many great songs and they are often overlooked in the UK. If you don’t have that Harry Mudie comp I showed, it is well worth picking up. Some seriously good tunes on it. All the best, Steve.

    Great to see you again Steve. Wow!..that Seeds, I'm very envious. Bonzo Dog are always entertaining..Neil Innes and Viv Stanshall were hugely talented. I've only ever had Spirits' debut on CD. I always pick up Exotica records whenever I see any. Eno on vinyl annoyingly needs to be immaculate as does a lot of ambient music. Hope you have a great new year, all the best to you and family .😊

      Hi Rob, happy new year to you and your family. I enjoyed making the video after such a long break. The Seeds record was quite a surprise. I have a late 1980s reissue as well. If you want the reissue, let me know and I will send it to you. Exotica pick ups are a must. They still crop up every now and then. I really like Spirit. I always recommend Spirit of 76. Total corker that one. The Bonzos are great but I avoided them for years - did not really get them but as the years roll by, they suddenly make perfect sense to me. Hope 2024 brings good fortune to you. All the best, Steve.

    At least your presentations make sense and of course are great as far as really good psychedelic albums go. Not obscure or rare, not egotistical presentations to show you're a know-it-all. All albums - except Spirit - are also on my top list, well done. If you want check out this video from my channel for more psychedelia. ua-cam.com/video/YzRsRksCijs/v-deo.html
