I got a model Y 7 seater for 3 months now, I have to say the biggest problem I have is no ac in the 3rd row. It becomes very hot in the back and my kids hate it, folding the middle is not an option for me since I have to use all of them, thinking of selling my Tesla just cuz of this flaw, not sure why Tesla would do something like this. I bought little fans for my kids to keep them cool but that’s not a real solution to the problem.
it is goofy that 7 seater owners have to do this, but im pretty sure whoever ends up back there wont care how goofy it is when its working.... which one did you go with? was it type C or did you just use a type C adapter?
You know, your tip on the 3rd row seatbelt storage is brilliant! In searching on line for a used Tesla, in the photos, which can be deceiving, I see these colorations and imprints on the seats. Now, I know what is causing the marks and dents! Your review is very helpful! Thanks!
Just a note, that when you move the second row to access the 3rd row, when pulling it back, it does stop to allow about 3 or 4" leg room for the 3rd row. That little safety feature (to not crush the passenger(s) legs is good, but the tip about being able to adjust with the top button while seated in the 3rd row is very helpful.
Great video Dax. I picked up a 2024 7 seater last week. Does anyone here that has one know if someone makes.a removable parcel shelf try for when you're not using the 2 rearmost seats? Thanks.
Just wanted to say thank you so much making this video it is very detailed and thanks for the tips I’m picking my model Y in two days and I appreciate this video to get me prepared for the pros and cons of the seven seater
We just picked up our 7 seat Model Y last week. The 3rd row must have been folded down while in transit because we have the buckle imprints and some discoloration from the strap on the seat. Thank you for the great tips!!
@@DaxM I had the same issue on Model 3 rear seats and asked Tesla. They said there was a TSB on it but no solution at the time. They never followed up on that issue. I’ve tried everything except steam cleaning and couldn’t remove the discoloration.
@@sdhsn774 We have no complaints. We have 2 kids (12 and 9 years old) who have used the back seats for fun a handful of times for trips around town. We got the 7 seats for the odd time when it will be convenient to be able to have more than 5 people in the car. I've heard that people 5'4" and under can fit in the back row without hitting their heads on the back window. I don't know how comfortable those seats are for a long trip for people other than kids. With the middle row moved up so my kids could sit in the back, I could sit comfortably in the second row without hitting my knees on the back of the front seat in my driver profile (I am 6' tall). As far as storage space, you lose the small under floor compartment and you lose an inch or two in width from the armrests for the 3rd row. These are small things that didn't matter to me.

I can't stress how envious I am of you guys in the US for having the 7-seaters variant. I'm from Singapore and the model Y has only just launched a few weeks ago here (together with Japan and Australia). There are only the RWD and Performance available here, and prices are around 180k USD and 220k USD. Currently drives a 3 perf and have ordered the Y perf. Thanks so much for the interesting video!
It will probably come there eventually. But you’ll need to step away from your performance cars to get it. They don’t make a 7 seater in the performance even here.
1/15/23 Just ordered the 7 seat for the $7,500 tax credit making the Y an SUV. Also I bought it since last Thursday, the same Y was $13,000.00 more expensive. I will probably never use the third row, ever.
Sorry if I missed this in the video. But 1. Do both sides of the 2nd row bench slide forward and back? Additionally, does the 2nd row offer more leg room when slid all the way back vs a 5 seater that does not move forward and back?
Is it possible to fold down just the right rear seat (2nd row) using only the trunk buttons? Currently, I have to fold the left and center seats down first before I can fold the right one.
Hi! I have been searching for a video about 7 seater model Y, regarding the second row seat cover installation. unlike the Y 5 seater the seat just pops out when pulled, no luck with the 7 seater. Can you do a tutorial on that please! Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Being single, I did not need the extra 2 seats, plus I preferred to have the extra trunk space with just the 5 seater vehicle and not worry about folding down a bunch of seats. For people that have allot of children, 7 seats may be needed. Plus, I don't know if I want anyone sitting in the 2 back seats for a long period of time and with the Sun Roof baking down upon them. I know, get shades, then what is the purpose of having a Sun Roof. I don't use shades in my Model Y. I want to see out the top. end of story. I got the black interior, but it wasn't because of seat belt problems. I have always had black interiors in my past vehicles. take care.
Thanks for the vid! At 14:12 you mentioned that for more legroom in 3rd row you just press the button and push it forward. Thats right, you can push forward but the problem is it won’t stay/lock. When accelerating it will slide back and hit the 3rd row person legs. I don’t know if there is a way to lock it beyond its original place to gain some more legroom for the 3rd row, do you know ?
Did a test drive of the 7 seater Y and I don't see how you're going to realistically even fit 6, let alone 7. First off, I'm 6'2'' and it took a little bit of effort to get into the driver's seat, even with it pushed all the way back. I told the salesman that we were going to check out the third row, so he had flattened the second row so my 9yo could get into the 3rd row. Then, I had adjusted my driver's seat back and later realized that the second row seat was basically being crushed, even though it was folded down. To get the second row back up, I had to move my seat all the way up. Then, I went to sit in the second row and moved it all the way back. Decent room, but not great. I got out and opened the trunk, and then immediately noticed that the third row now had NO LEG ROOM. Lol. So, you basically have to hope that your driver and front passengers are not tall and your middle row passengers are not tall, for you to have even a shot of getting some kids (or tiny adults) into that 3rd row. Bottom line, the Y's seating configuration with the 3rd row is not realistic for long trips or if you have a larger family. I tried out the 3 and it was much, much roomier, but of course it's only a 5-seater. The X is probably much more optimal for 6 normal-sized passengers, but the price tag is nearly double that of the Y.
That bar design in the 2nd row (sticking out of the 2nd row driver's side seat) is strange - at a minimum, they could have probably made it retractable so that it can be pushed into the seat so it's flush.
As you say, the third row is really just something to use in a pinch, and really is just for kids. The Model Y is a compact SUV, it is based off the the Model 3, which was sized to match the size of the BMW 3 series (which is BMW's medium small sports sedan). It really makes almost no sense to try to squeeze a third row in such a car. Vinyl cleaner should get off any residual seat belt marks or anything else off the white seats. The key is to use the Vinyl cleaner when you see the marks. The Tesla white seats clean-up remarkably well. The seat beats can leave permanent marks in the vinyl. It will not 'heal' once plastically deformed. This happened on the seat of my old Acura
wanted to see all the seats in 2nd and 3rd row folded down and if they were completely flat or was there a slight slope. There is no video of that on youtube.
Great video, extremely informative about the 3 row Model Y! But I’m kind of disappointed by the interior quality. Seats that get colored by OEM seatbelts, third row seats backs clearly are not aligned, as noted. Most importantly I’m iffy on the safety of the third row the more videos I see of this model. Now I’m wondering with the trunk window directly above the third row, if passengers get showered with shreds of glass in case of a rear end accident. My 1997 Camaro had a similar large rear glass on its hatch but it wasn’t over the rear passenger area.
I am glad I watched this vid, I do not like the model Y 7seater. The model X used would be a better deal for me than a model Y new. Just too small for 7 seats
Great video. Thank you. When you have the 7-seater Model Y configured just like the 5-seater Model Y (ie the third row is folded down), are the width and height of the trunk the same as in the 5-seater? Specifically, if you were to measure right at the backs of the second-row seats, would the width and height be the same as in the 5-seat version? I am wondering if the third row folding down raises the trunk's floor level a bit, and thus lowers the available height.
When the seats are folded down, the vehicles are identical except you lose the storage that is under the front part of the rear hatch. Not the sub-trunk, as he calls it, but the tiny bit of storage in front of the sub trunk under the floor mat/cover thing - you lose that little area. In a 5 seater, there are two covers on the floor of the hatch area. The one closer to the rear of the car covers the sub trunk. The one closer to the front (that abuts the back of the middle row seats) covers an area about 4 inches deep that’s probably good for storing your mobile charger or something. That area disappears, and the floor of the hatch area becomes the back of the 3rd row seats.
7 seater had reinforced rear with more strong backside protection. You can google it to find out more. Backside of 7 seater is more strong than 5 seater supposedly.

How long did you guys wait for the 7 seats delivery? I am in my 10th months and am still waiting. I also ordered the white on white 19” wheels in Nov 2021.
In the second row, in the center seat there is a separate cushion for the lower back. It looks like it is intentionally separated from the rest of the bench seat. Does it move or do anything?
Hi , I would like to add the 7 seats to my new Tesla order but I'm wondering with the 5 seats, the second row can't now be adjust right? And with the 7 seats , the second row could adjust up to 3 more inches space?
Can you show what maximum leg room in the 3rd row means for the 2nd row leg room? Also, what 3rd comfortably leg room and what that looks like for the 2nd row? Thank you.
I wish I could for you, but unfortunately I don’t have that car any longer. I now have a 5 seater. If I get my hands on another 7 seater, I’ll definitely make a video about the leg room scenarios.
It wasn’t my choice. It was written off when a drunk driver T-boned me and I could only get a 5 seater instead (video about that coming soon). I didn’t want to wait till December for a 7 seater.
Isn't the model Y a compact size? Seems like the 3rd row is like the highlander where is not meant for adults at all. Too many design flaws for me. White interior is only nice if you have no kids imo. Having to second think about stains is too much to deal with. This is why I always go for black interior as it ages better.
Took one for a test drive, had my 8 year old daughter in the back and she could hardly fit. My younger daughter slid the second row back a little and my 8 year old started to cry because her foot got stuck. This third row should never have been installed the Model Y is not suited for it.
Seriously UA-cam. I typed in tall driver Tesla reviews as I’m 5’8 and hubby 6’6. First video you recommend is someone 5’3 which is the height of my 10 year old son. 😮🤦🏽♀️ Great video
Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat.
I’d argue you’d be hard pressed to find a vehicle that’s as versatile and checks as many boxes at this price point. What else can hold 7 people and go 0-60 in under 5 seconds for 50-60k? I hate that cars cost that much, but I have to admit, this is a good value.
never understood why people get a 7 seater for such a tiny ass car, and they're surprised it's not made to fit humans....like dude, can't you tell just from looking at it that the 3rd row is practically useless?
Dont order the 7 seater. Its not worth it. I ordered one, and its been delayed like 5 times for delivery. After further research, the 7 seat models have a tendency to be delayed repeatedly. I dont think the lack of leg room and ventilation in the back is worth the wait. Like sure, maybe its worth the money. After all its only $1000 but unless you will use it because you have a family of 5 or more, I wouldnt. I cancelled my order after Tesla moved the delivery date around 4 times in 1 week. I looked through their new inventory and found the same exact car (only difference being 5 seats instead of 7).
To all the folks asking/suggesting to put down or remove the second row to make room for the third: I think you're missing the point of getting the 7-seater...

I agree. It’s a giant flaw.
FWIW, the 2022 Acura MDX also doesn’t have 3rd row vents, so it’s not just Tesla. But yeah, I also have a USB-C fan back there for my kids

Oh my... hope everyone is OK. Thanks for your follow-up a d reply.
Can a car seat fit in the third row
The channel “Tesla of 7” showed 2 car seats in the back on their Model Y road trip video.
Sitting there might be ok, but the real problem is dragging yourself out of the third row seat since there is no handle to grab.
Does the third row have heated seats ?
Unfortunately, no
@@DaxM yes it does
@@rkg114 where?
@@DaxM in the app, you can turn on heaters for 3rd row seats. I’m waiting my delivery but have seen it demo on other videos
@@rkg114 when is your expected delivery?
I think in a rear-end crash the two people sitting in the back might not survive as there isn't much room left for the impact...right?
Does the 5 seater's second row slide back like this one does?
No it doesn’t.
can you remove the 2nd row from the rails?
No
Can you get off from the 3rd row on the passenger side?
Yes you can.
I would sit in the third row , fold down the second row and and just use third row as a recliner 🤣
We actually did that. Here’s the video. HOW TO : Going to a Drive-In with a Model Y 7 Seater.
ua-cam.com/video/3Y2r0HHUjis/v-deo.html
Would you ever put a car seat back there? I assume it would be baby deathtrap
There are plenty of videos on UA-cam with kids car seats in the back
Isn't the model Y a compact size? Seems like the 3rd row is like the highlander where is not meant for adults at all. Too many design flaws for me. White interior is only nice if you have no kids imo. Having to second think about stains is too much to deal with. This is why I always go for black interior as it ages better.
Can the third row seats be removed?
No.
Took one for a test drive, had my 8 year old daughter in the back and she could hardly fit. My younger daughter slid the second row back a little and my 8 year old started to cry because her foot got stuck.
This third row should never have been installed the Model Y is not suited for it.
If they made this an standard wagon style design, this would be more apealing.
That 3rd row is for leg-less passengers
Is there any heated seat in 3rd row?
No there isn’t.
Yes, turn on in the app.
@@hgodtx your at has heated seats in the 3rd row?
@@DaxM I read other people's comments said this. I still haven't rcvd mine yet.
Get Toyata mini van best for family..i driver Uber …Toyata mini van not fancy but it’s best for family
True, but you don't get the techies and the power from Toyota. I had a 2021 Toyota sienna and Tesla model Y.
If only they have a taller roof profile
Seriously UA-cam. I typed in tall driver Tesla reviews as I’m 5’8 and hubby 6’6. First video you recommend is someone 5’3 which is the height of my 10 year old son. 😮🤦🏽♀️
Great video
Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat.
I’d argue you’d be hard pressed to find a vehicle that’s as versatile and checks as many boxes at this price point. What else can hold 7 people and go 0-60 in under 5 seconds for 50-60k? I hate that cars cost that much, but I have to admit, this is a good value.
3rd row is for children smart guy!
SARDINE CAN THIRD ROW
never understood why people get a 7 seater for such a tiny ass car, and they're surprised it's not made to fit humans....like dude, can't you tell just from looking at it that the 3rd row is practically useless?
I want to buy model x or y for family. Not sure which one is best since I'm in middle of divorce 😕 . Guess I'll get another porsche
I looked through their new inventory and found the same exact car (only difference being 5 seats instead of 7).
íts a gimmick,,,they charged $2000 for 3rd row!
To all the folks asking/suggesting to put down or remove the second row to make room for the third: I think you're missing the point of getting the 7-seater...
Sorry, but Model Y 3rd row is a joke. Not usuable.
Dude spent WAAAY too much time on the positioning of the shoulder straps!
5 foot 3 bro
And yet he still barely fits in the 3rd row. I'm convinced that Tesla designed the 3rd row for dwarfs.
Middle seats are not for 3 people. It is too narrow. Might be for 3 small kids OK. Plus cup holders under arm. Horrible design.
