We got our 7-seater Model Y two years ago so that we could take trips with the rent-a-kids and their mom in just one vehicle. It only happens once or twice a year, but totally works for those times. If the EV9 had existed back then we probably would have bought it instead. (Road trips would suck without the supercharger network though, especially here in Ontario 🇨🇦). The Model X was a non-starter because the middle seats don't fold flat, and with those goofy doors it won't hold roof bars, which is great for the bikes when the hitch is busy hauling our Sea-Doos. It's definitely a compromise, but it let us go full EV at a time when no other vehicle would have.
I do not think this is for families 5+. I would rather say that this is for families 2+3 who occasionally need to take extra kids from football practice/school or visit grandparents and want to do a short trip with them.
@@michaelpaoli7309 Probably that's why Nissan called it the "Qashqai+2" back in the day...had the same limitations with the extra row but it sure had it's moments while transporting kids...
It's way too small for most adults in the back for sure, but i would imagine those buying this would be families with more then 2 kids, and the chances are very high that at least 1 or 2 of the kids are in the age of 6-16 years old and would probably fit nicely in the back. It's for sure not a model X, but for larger families with limited budget, this does now make Tesla a possible option for them, while it wasn't really an option before at a medium price range.
More like 6-10 years old. My 10 year old is 1.60, he might fit now, but will definitely not fit next year. But 6-7 year old will still need a child seat, which reduces space.
We borrowed the 7 seater overnight and I could totally see someone losing a toe or 2 with the rail system there for the second row to move back and forth. If you look closely, in this video, the 3rd row passenger on the right literally has no place to plant their feet in a safe or comfortable way at all.
You're right, this 7 seater Model Y is basically only suitable for families with 3-5 children. And while 3 kids will fit in a standard Model Y, here 1 can sit all the way in the back and all 3 are much more comfortable. However, what I'm missing in your video is how the back 2 seats fold. Or rather: can they even fold? Because luggage space is now practically non-existent as far as I can tell. Some cars can fold the back 2 seats down so you get the original storage space more or less, but some cars only have removable seats, which is a real pain in the butt.
There's really no big difference in terms of cargo room between 7 seater and 5 seater. I've needed to transport 6 people in my car a few times and having the 3rd row on the Model Y is really great. Kids love sitting in the 3rd row.
Don’t take it too serious. I would see that version more like a compliance car. No vents in the last row and it’s cumbersome to get in and out. Probably fine for children for a short drive. If I remember correctly, there was some benefit for seven seater cars in the US.
The rear structure is relatively hard, as is usual with any vehicle. But of course, if a truck drives up behind you at 80, it doesn't matter. But is not specific to the Model Y, but affects all those with a row of seats far back.
The 2nd row can slide forward without tilting it (there is a bar that you have to press as there is on manual front seats), I'm not sure you're tested in the most advanced position of the 2nd row. I tested it in the most forward position: no problem for 5 people of 1m80 and 2 people of 1m60 at the 3rd row : and no one touches the seat with their knees (at least 5cm) so no compromise in comfort ! Who care more cm between their knees and the seat in front of them ? The only potential problem is to touch the seat, if not, no pb.
I have tried with 3 adults (182 cm, 180 and 175cm) each behind eachother. And it worked. Probably not even problem for some longer trips. I do not know why some bi*ch about lack of space. It is 7 seater of size of 5 seater. If you want a big mini van then get something else. And there is a "luxury" option too. If you fold down middle row you have great space for legs for the back row. Better then S class :P And if you do not need 6th and 7th seat you just fold it. And if you need it you just unfold it. Best of both worlds. As fast as new Y comes I will be placing order for new 7 seater.
It appears that Tesla are mis-representing a 5+2 seater, as a 7 seater, they would be better off selling it accurately described to avoid disappointing people who don't do some research before buying.
You could potentially claim it as a business-related vehicle, similar to how one would with a hotel shuttle bus, and then apply for a tax deduction accordingly.
Thats a very nice option. A relatively compact vehicle (35cm shorter than the mentioned ES8, or 21cm shorter than an ID7) and still enough space for 4x 180cm + 2x 150cm (at least if you push the 2nd row forward) - this makes the Model Y even more versatile. If necessary, an adult with 180cm can also fit in the back, although it is not comfortable for longer journeys - Of course, the car is not suitable for a holiday trip with 7 adults, but that should be clear.
I just wish Tesla would get some real engineers that follow countries legal obligations. In Australia passengers are not allowed to get out on the drivers side. Plus anyone with common sense would feel letting people getting out in traffic without a mirror to see whats coming would be safer. But Elon will just ask countries to change their laws to suit his stupid designs.
"Even kids have legs." I love this quote

Exactly why we bought ours!
Seeing Bjorn at the 3rd row, I got claustrophobic !
All car UA-camrs right now: "The 3rd row seats for small children in the Model Y will not fit adults". What a surprise.
Maybe they shouldn't have advertised it as fit for adults when they unveiled it
I would call it a 5+2 Seater. The option to bring to more childern to a Birthday party is cool. But its not for „normal“ use.
@@michaelpaoli7309 Probably that's why Nissan called it the "Qashqai+2" back in the day...had the same limitations with the extra row but it sure had it's moments while transporting kids...

Why would you buy a MY if you're on a tight budget? There are a lot of better options out there

Super for families. I like it. Nice price. 7 seats. What do you want more ? 👏
Luggage space
@@jioja002 but then the vehicle would have to be larger in general!

It's just perfect when kids have age between 4 and 12 for short term runs to kindergarten or sports club with simple booster seat.

I would have safety concerns in case of a crash from behind.

"Even kids..They have legs, right?!" 😀 Who except me wants this Bjorn's quote on a T-shirt? 🤣🤣 Hilarious irony, man!!
I wonder if they did reverse the seats like the old model S. Not sure how you'd get in though.
Come on, this is seats for children!!
If you consider how much energy the thing uses for moving 7 people, it's very impressive. But it's clearly a compromise.
Most important question: Are there Isofix mounts?
No
is there any luggage space at all behind the 7 seat? obviously it wont fit adults, thats a given

is it possible to fold the rear seats?
glad i ordered the ev9
How much trunk-space do you get with 7 seats? It looks pretty similar to the Toyota Prius + 7-seater-setting…
LOL. Model 3 for the win.

eeeeh, ok…
Exactly, 7seater has almost no compromise. You can use it as a 5seater. Then, in a pinch, use the 3rd row. I think it is genius move from Tesla
Does it have a parcel shelf ?
❤❤❤
"If you're planning on keeping your kids for longer" ... Bro
Tbh...this is for children only. If you need a proper 7 seater you need to buy a much larger type of car.
Then they should market it as such. "Tesla model Y with 2 additional seats for children (max. 130cm)."
@@SandWraith0 no pb for 5x180cm + 2x160cm
@@SandWraith0 Bjorn sits in it with 173cm, although not exactly comfortably. So how did you get a maximum of 130cm?
Looks about as comfortable as the second row of a Renault Megane Convertible
It is weird that on a LHD car you have to load people into the back standing in traffic, should be on the other side, facing the sidewalk /pavement ..

If tesla put like 50 cm in lenght into the Model Y it could be a 7-seater. Maybe with a 120 kWh-battery. But not this way
An absolute joke of a product.
So much wrong with Tesla as a car company these days.

Third row child seat 2:12

Seats for children, but these children need to be in special child seats. Never.
The kids you could put there, needs safety seats. This is practically useless feature.
