They really are. There was a video a couple days earlier that made it look impossibly small by moving ALL the other seats ALL the way back. They disable the comments on that video, no surprise. Big fan Dave!
When you sit on the 2nd row seat, you were looking at the front seat right in front of you as if you are getting a time out from your parent :-) I wouldn’t sit in the 2nd row more than 10 minutes. And 3rd row seat? Head hitting the window? I know the Hylander has a really small 3rd row seat, but at least you don’t hit the tailgate with your head.

this is by far the best model y 7 seat video! Love how you show the configuration with people sitting on all levels. No one really does that. And showing the car seat in the 3rd show is great. I just wished you would have shown the double stroller in the trunk if it would have fit or not. But otherwise, great video! Thank you!
Best video I’ve seen so far of the 3 row model Y! Awesome video guys!! I would definitely get the 3rd row. You don’t hardly lose anything but you gain so much especially when that situation presents itself and you need to fit extra people. I love it especially with the white interior. Beautiful! Thanks so much!!
The video everybody has waiting for! I wouldn't put anyone in the back whose head contacts the glass instead of the headrest, but it is an impressive amount of room, nonetheless.
Excellent breakdown of all of the features and cost/benefit analysis! I don’t see why someone wouldn’t get the 7 seater because you almost lose nothing when they’re fully down.
I tried the 3rd row at the Tesla store 3 days ago. I'm only 5'7.5", but my head hit the glass and I had to scrunch my neck/back down. I had plenty of leg room though, which is different from the video. I believe this is because of body type (a) I have a long torso short legs, this guy has the opposite, (b) I have a large derrière making me sit up higher. That said, I ended up ordering a 3-row, and I only plan on using it for my 3-year old, and maybe in a few years my newborn when he's older (grandparents will sit in back row with newborn, and we only have 1 car between all 6 of us).
This is an amazing video! My wife really insisted on the 3rd row, look like it's going to be just perfect. Arrives Jan 25 - Feb 22 apparently, can't wait!! Thanks so much for sharing this!
For kids it is super cool. And I guess that what it is designed for. Usually you don't have 6 adults in a household but maybe 2 parents plus 3 to 4 kids. Now they all fit comfortably.
Totally Convince on the third row seat thank you very much for excellent presentation I was concerned with no leg room. now I will be ordering my model Y with additional seats. Thank you and congratulations on a beautiful family
The third seems more usable than even some bigger SUVs. It just goes to show with excellent design you can make a smaller car more functional than a bigger one.
Thanks for this video. My family will fit exactly into this T M Y configuration: two forward facing car seats in the rear, two kids in the middle row without car seats, and two adults in the front. Nice.
Seeing the headrests poke out beyond the threshold of the trunk lid pretty much sums it up. Its a nice to have for kids but not adults. Headroom was an afterthought on this thing and seeing the feet shows that was an afterthought as well.
Contemplating buying a Model Y. A couple of questions. 1. How much leg room did your son have when the second row is a normal position? 2. If you're placing the Uppababy rear facing carseat in the second row, does the carseat touch the front seats and does that effect how much leg room your son has in the third row? Thanks
Great review that relates to people who will actually buy the Y with the 3rd row. Thank you for going detailed!! Hate seeing videos from single (or non family) UA-camrs giving tutorials that don’t fully paint the picture that families are looking for
Put the car seat on the passenger side of the 3rd row. Then you don't have the foot space issue for an adult in the 3rd row, the adult is on the driver side.
Thanks. I’m a technician and I work in the seat department. Grate review. As a company we always want to see how our cars perform in the field. This Information Age gives us direct feed back that we need. We try to always see where we can improve. Thanks from Telsa.
I have the exact same Diono car seat for my 5 year old. Would you feel safe putting your child in the 3rd row full time? I don't think there are side curtain airbags. Do you think a kid in a car seat can see out the window at all? I want to think this can work comfortably for my family of 5 instead of buying a gas guzzling Telluride.
Great questions Ed. For us this would be only on occasion. As for a full time third row kids seat, my advice is rent one on turo for 3 days and really get a feel for if this will work for you!
It already goes 0-60 in 4.8 seconds for the long range - which is insane. I guess i can’t see how a performance model for a 3 row would be that much greater if you also need that much room.
It's a jump seat. On those occasions when you have to take all four kids with you, the little one gets the back seat and won't care. The rest of the time the seats fold flat and you use the storage space. It's all good.
Wow, the very first video I’ve seen on the Model Y 3rd row seats! Not sure if anyone else will give a more detailed look at them going forward, so congratulations! So many months of speculation and just like that Tesla delivers! Looks like enough room fir someone short like me(but I would be claustrophobic back there for a trip longer than down the street) , but more than enough room and perfect for small children even for a long trip!
I am confused between getting an Highlander and this 7 seater Tesla. Which one you think will be better? The Tesla seems to compact on the third row right? Other than that I loved it
Two Bit da Vinci we went white with the upgraded wheels + white interior along with the 3rd row. Standard range. We’re pretty close to everything and commute locally. + when we do road trip we wouldn’t mind stopping more often.
Great video, thanks. Particularly covering the family stuff - really helpful to get an idea of how it will work with kids, car seats and the associated “stuff”.
Road in the back of one 170miles it wasn’t that bad. It can be done I’m 5 10” 250lb. You wouldn’t want to go across country but small trips is dueable. It’s great for small children
Model Y boi here 👋🏼 The point that does not come across here is the size of the Model Y. It doesn’t hold a full size adult in the 3rd row but the Model Y is not a large vehicle. Driving down the street it is an order of magnitude smaller than other cars in its segment. Great video my dude, very informative!!
Great Video - we have 2 small dogs, 1 large Great Dane and we are trying for our first child. I initially thought this car was going to be far too small but with all the compartments and adjustability the 2nd row gets with this option I am heavily reconsidering. Lol luckily i am only 5’5” so i think i should have it even easier.
This is by far the best model Y third row video on UA-cam I've come across. Thank you for putting this together. My dealer person actually told me that reclining second row seats wasn't possible like it is in the 5 seater, so your video was a good verification that it indeed is possible. I have similar aged kids as yours (same infant car seat even 😂) so it really helps. BTW with the uppababy base installed, it is hard to incline and slide forward the 2nd row seat to let someone get to the 3rd row. The driver seat position for 6 ft person gets in the way, as I found during my testing at the dealership.
Well detailed, great review! Having your family just the thought Tesla had designing this car; for family! Very practical and you loose nothing compared to a 2 row 5 Seater.
thanks for getting in the back.. great to understand the dimensions. I can imagine a family trip with my younger sons on a booster fitting in the back. but when they hit teens, they will be too tall with that glass angle. And no windows in the back makes it a bit dark on the longer trips.. might get travel sick with all that torque!
Now a family with 7 kids can get by with 2 EV's. A model Y and a Aptera. On occasion everyone needs to go together, one parent drives each vehicle and fills passenger seats with kids. The Aptera gets there pretty much for free so why not bring it? Okay, most families have 5 or fewer kids. Everyone can fit in the Model Y together. Parents take out the Aptera for date night or a weekend getaway!
Great video! I was always wondering how the room in the back would be for the 3rd row. Of course it's not for everyone or even long trips, but it is as functional if not more than I have seen in an Acadia or a Traverse that we had in the past. The leg room is I think a bit more and I believe that might be pulled off by the seats being elevated.
Best video of the MT 7 seater to date. Thanks for sharing. I shared your video on FB TSLA stock discussion page. I want to order one, but I've heard the new administration will renew the tax credit incentive. Hopefully Tesla will be included. I am holding off for a few more weeks.
My wife's 2016 Model X does not have much more room in the 3rd row. Only better access. I am 6' and I fit about as well as you do in the 3rd row. More room in X with 3 row fold down, but about the same room with it up as the Y.
Lol just bought this exact same car, a rushed decision to get the 3rd row but watching this really informed me that it was a good move. Thank you for this!
Are you going to trade in your M3? I want to order a MY 7 seater, but I've heard the new administration will renew the tax credit. Not sure if Tesla will be included.
What a great video! Echoing the sentiment of others- it was so nice to see you include your family and friend into this video to help demonstrate what it may look like for others and their families. You have such a thorough explanation of the seating and space. Thank you!!!!
My Y was delivered yesterday with the 3rd row. I did not try it out, it just seemed way to small for me, which led to me questioning the 3rd row option. We have a big family and the kiddos could fit if you can at 6'. I'm sure we'll find out soon. Thanks for the video!
Thanks - very good presentation. That basically debunks everybody who said the seventh row would be useless. Even fairly large adults can fit for a short trip. And a small adult could fit for longer trips. Most groups of 7 adult people would include a couple of not tall adults and would be able to use all 7 seats. The storage is great compared to most ICE seven seaters. All in all: Looks great for families, esthetics are nice and the seats stove away real well.

Road in the back of one 170miles it wasn’t that bad. It can be done I’m 5 10” 250lb. You wouldn’t want to go across country but small trips is dueable. It’s great for small children
I’m 5’9, I can sit in the third row ok. Not very comfortable for long trip. But for daily commute? No problem
Model Y boi here 👋🏼
The point that does not come across here is the size of the Model Y. It doesn’t hold a full size adult in the 3rd row but the Model Y is not a large vehicle. Driving down the street it is an order of magnitude smaller than other cars in its segment.
Great video my dude, very informative!!
A lot more practical than the model 3, and in the UK 🇬🇧, we have very few saloon (Sedan) cars, for practical reasons.
Never seen a kid so excited about 3rd row seats before haha. Cute!
Great video! I was looking for a video that shows the need of a big family! Thanks! Tesla should definitely thank you!
Fantastically comprehensive view - from the perspective of a real family. Brilliant. Subscribed.
Much appreciated!
Nice video. Very family focused and now I noticed this is the first family focused tour I've seen. this was very helpfull. Thank you!
Excellent video! Finally a detailed walk through and perfect demonstration on size and functionality. Thanks a million!!
Nice video, thanks for sharing. I saw another video where that false floor ledge section can be turned around to make it more of a level trunk area.
While you looked really crammed in the driver seat and it was pretty funny, this is a great, informative video.
Lol just bought this exact same car, a rushed decision to get the 3rd row but watching this really informed me that it was a good move. Thank you for this!
That’s what I been waiting for. Still packing 3 kids in my model 3
Are you going to trade in your M3?
I want to order a MY 7 seater, but I've heard the new administration will renew the tax credit. Not sure if Tesla will be included.
@@bac3phi I'm wavering for the exact same reason.
Yes, we are trading in 2018 m3 for M Y 7 seaters. it is perfect for my family.
This video is cute *and* informative. That’s a thumbs up from me!
Supprised you haven't got more views on this. This has got to be the first proper look at the 3rd row config. Great video.
I am sold, this would totally work for my family.
What a great video! Echoing the sentiment of others- it was so nice to see you include your family and friend into this video to help demonstrate what it may look like for others and their families. You have such a thorough explanation of the seating and space. Thank you!!!!
First of all I love how the kid is having so much fun and this guy is being so natural in the vid !!! Great video 👍🏻
You are too kind.... thanks!
My Y was delivered yesterday with the 3rd row. I did not try it out, it just seemed way to small for me, which led to me questioning the 3rd row option. We have a big family and the kiddos could fit if you can at 6'. I'm sure we'll find out soon. Thanks for the video!
Great video! This is exactly what I was looking for. I wish you should your double stroller fitting, but great video.
We tried our Bumbleride double it was to tight, but the Zoe double fitted better. Hope that helps. 👍
