It's probably relatively less crowded now. When tourism opens up again it'll get chock full of tourists vying for IG fodder. Last time I went was 2019 and it got super packed by 6pm.
It looks so tasty and fun! It would be great for my birthday when I finally visit. Do they have any food for someone who is vegetarian and gluten free? (My wife, not me - I’d eat everything on your table.)
"I am also in many pieces" ..my therapist having a bad day. $100 for food/drink for 5 people?? Just unheard of in California. WISH I could go to Hanbey!
French toast Bread pudding Croutons Bread Sticks _(herbs and cheese)_ Cinnamon sticks Bread crumbs The possibilities are endless! Well, maybe not endless, but... Plentiful!
I used to "teach" conversional English in Hiroshima. One of the "students" boss would often join us for dinner after class, couldn't speak English, didn't care to learn but loved to join us for dinner. He always dropped the first $100 and we covered the rest.
nice to see the crew sharing a meal together food always tastes better when you eat with others I want to eat everything you guys showed but probably the different breads the most as a fellow bread lover
I feel like I would have an amazing time in an atmosphere like that with friends. I’ve never been to Japan (or in a proper izakaya anywhere for that matter) but it is number one on my bucket list.
Katanuki sound like game from Squid Game. I remember that main hero got very difficult shape and then the way how he finally got shape out without breaking the original.
My recommendation with Hanbey, or similar izakayas, get a leek with your meal if you are going to be ordering a lot of beer or greasy food. Eat it before anything else and it'll keep you from feeling bloated later.
I missed this place when I was in Japan. Need to go next time! But first need to make some Japanese frannnz..or else it just wouldn't be the same experience!
I LOVE Hanbey, it's so cheap and retro. Such a nice atmosphere. The only thing of disappointment was when I was offered cow uterus. It taste like how a men's bathroom would smell.
@@TopAnimeLoverEver I guess they had to use whatever food they could get a hold of in the Showa era after the war and cow uterus and crickets were some of the items.
Every time I see Shiori I flash back to "Aishiteru, it means 'I love you' which no one has ever said to me, and that sounds so sad..." Dunno why, but that's permanently mapped to Shiori in my brain 😂 (It's the first video they did on how to say words in different languages)
A themed restaurant is always a win. I wonder if the Japanese equivalent of the US 50's diner aesthetic with the waitresses in cute uniforms and rollerskates and such.
I wish there was a legit Izakaya here in Vancouver BC, but the cost of living, plus the continuing rising inflation and limited supply of ingredients/products - it just isn't financially feasible for a Japanese-specific restaurant to offer such low prices for alcohol and food. There are a lot of fantastic Japanese restaurants here, but they're not cheap.
2:50 The beer mug Shori is drinking from plus her size reminds me of Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku when the group go to a roof top beer garden and she gets her version of a large beer 10:35 For you anime fans this is what Aggretsuko ate for S1-2 at lunch at times with mayo.
Ah, places like that are top of my list for Japan, particularly cause I like to graze and hang out. :) (Also I've never had crickets as such, but I've really enjoyed roasted locusts. Rather nutty taste to them. (I've tried a good number of 'strange' foods, but the usual reaction is 'Eh, this is OK,' rather than going out of my way to look for them again. The locusts were really good though. Maybe crickets are like that. :) )
I hear you get English menus in some places they may charge more. Like a convenience fee. Considering your not to tip is probably worth it. But be carefull while being carefree!
Eats frog leg "tastes like chicken". Yes, and this is why I've never seen the draw. I'll just have the cheaper chicken thanks lol. The only legs I feel the need to go out of my way to eat are crab legs because yum!
I'm a little confused...just watched a couple recent TC videos. Jordon's been dropping uncensored F-bombs left, right and center, while Chris broad drops one and gets beeped out. What's the deal?
Have you ever visited Hanbey or a Japanese izakaya before? Let us know in the comments down below!

0:23 Sarah is good at that

I didn't get to go on my last trip. Will be a must on my next one, whenever that happen.
A certain chris would be delighted to be at a hanbey
"I am also in many pieces" ..my therapist having a bad day. $100 for food/drink for 5 people?? Just unheard of in California. WISH I could go to Hanbey!
I would take the bread crusts, soak them in some beaten eggs then fry them and make mini french toasts :)
I like the cut of your jib lady. 🤤
Ohh or bread pudding!
My exact thought! 😂 I almost made French toast from watching this but it's already 11pm so maybe tomorrow lol
French toast
Bread pudding
Croutons
Bread Sticks _(herbs and cheese)_
Cinnamon sticks
Bread crumbs
The possibilities are endless! Well, maybe not endless, but... Plentiful!
Shiori saying don't worry cause she'll order a homerun-sized beer made laugh so loud for some reason. She's so cute 😆❤ 1:46
It's hilarious, Shiori is wild!
That seems very like her. I've seen other videos with her and she likes beer a lot. Still that mug was huge!
It's kinda comical that the shortest person orders the largest drink. 😂
Thank you so much. I really wanna go there when I visit Japan.
Love that you put everyone's favorites from the end on their intro cards!!!
Looks like a fun to eat at place. Happy birthday Emma!
My love for Hanbey knows no bounds~! Absolute 10/10 izakaya
I’d definitely love to try that agepan! Sarah and Emma definitely hyped it up!!! Loved Shiori’s massive beer🍺!!! Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EMMA!! 🥳🎉🎈😆😆
It's like the scene in The Prancing Pony; it's just a pint, but Shiori is hobbit-sized.
Yeah that place is great, good fun
I used to "teach" conversional English in Hiroshima. One of the "students" boss would often join us for dinner after class, couldn't speak English, didn't care to learn but loved to join us for dinner. He always dropped the first $100 and we covered the rest.
This makes me miss Japan, love that retro looking style 🤩
I genuinely love how tc videos have text EVERYWHERE like a Korean/Japanese video 🤣 awesome video as always 🥰🥰
OMG we want to see you guys go to all of these hanbei, especially the ones with the living room.
nice to see the crew sharing a meal together food always tastes better when you eat with others I want to eat everything you guys showed but probably the different breads the most as a fellow bread lover
Shiori looks so pretty with her hair tied up 😊
Hanbei Mecha Osusume Desu! This izakaya is everywhere in Japan so visit one of them and hit a homerun like me!
The place looks so cosy!
ya'll are ADORABLE and that looked like so much fun!
I feel like I would have an amazing time in an atmosphere like that with friends. I’ve never been to Japan (or in a proper izakaya anywhere for that matter) but it is number one on my bucket list.
It's like the Japanese equivalent of Cracker Barrel kind of! Simple, classic food and being surrounded by vintage decor and advertising. 😋
I’ve never thought about it that way😂 miss the blueberry pancakes
AHHH I love Hanbey!!!! There is one in Toyama and Kanazawa! The food is so good!!
Happy Bday Emma LUV LUV LUV LUV U
Sarah is my favorite!
I love your channel! Congratulations on your incredible work! Cheers from Brazil!
im late but happy birthday emma!
funny thing is I'm watching this on a Sunday 😀
Totally amazing fun delicious 🤤 video and fantastic job.
Katanuki sound like game from Squid Game. I remember that main hero got very difficult shape and then the way how he finally got shape out without breaking the original.
I love Yukisoda next time I go to Japan I will try it there to see if its different to the one I have a home in Wagamuma.
💖💖💖💖💙XXXXX
No I have not, but would love to. Looks like a lot of fun.
Can't wait to come to Japan.
I love the look of the place

That sounds traumatizing. Note to self- no.. cow... uterus... ✍️
@@TopAnimeLoverEver I guess they had to use whatever food they could get a hold of in the Showa era after the war and cow uterus and crickets were some of the items.
@@deletedwaffles fair point. Still don't think I want to
.. eat.... that

Happy birthday, Emma!
I wish there’s a Showa era themed izakaya in NYC. I would love to try all those things without waiting for Japan to open back up.
Happy Birthday to You, Emma.
🥂
I will try going to this Izakaya one day!
I'm drinking a beer and eating edamame so I can feel like I'm there with you!
actually it's what I was planning for dinner anyway.
The fried bread looked so tasty 😋
Shiroi lifting the 1 Liter was hilarious :-)
That Sahara like potatoes is normal we Germans eat them every day they are somehow very important to us..
A themed restaurant is always a win. I wonder if the Japanese equivalent of the US 50's diner aesthetic with the waitresses in cute uniforms and rollerskates and such.
My local small Hawaiian style shop (we live near the beach in southern Kanagawa) and he sometimes gives me the fried crusts.
Yay happy birthday beautiful toki doki
So freaking Cool!!! And fun and...like Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I am freaking 56 years old!!!!! Definitely would hang out there!!!!!!!!!!!! So fun!!
Omg Shiori is adorable 🥰

Oh gosh it all looked really good but i would wanna try the frog legs ( mostly to say I’ve eaten frog legs lol ).
Shiori vs Cheese 😆 would definitely visit this place when I go back to Japan…eventually…hopefully next year 🥲
look like a good feed with good people
Quote of the day: "It tastes like the Showa era."😅

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
giving the boss from grandmas boy w that coat
"This was Shiori's idea." "Why don't we go eat a lot?" That sounds like a very reasonable argument.
I would love to try all of these foods. I would try the frog legs and see how different it taste to the ones we have in the southern US.
Are street festivals back yet in Japan?
I was tickled to learn that bread crust is パンの耳 (bread ears) in Japanese!
Tc, please do a behind the scenes reel soon?
That price actually seems quite reasonable given the amount you ate.
You say you finished working but you still working…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So a ginger, a black dude, and a German walk into an izakaya.
Which is weird cuz it's Japan.

11:38 Aggretsuko's Retsuko ate pan no mimi with mayo after the wedding
Tokyo Creative goes to an Otoboke Beaver concert
The only restaurant where Chris eats and he's NOT invited?! I'm sure you guys will be hearing about this...
Wow fifty cent chicken skewer that’s hood quality, america could never! 😂
neat
I love in japan at syouwa and naturally.👍👍
Will they let you eat there if you are traveling solo?
Of course~! They have solo seating counter tables too!
The best part was that there was no pointless transparent shielding, which Japanese celebrities do😂
Wait, Shiori’s name isn’t Shorty??
I see Tokyo Creative got the Gov't memo about forcing young people to drink more. Tyfys
Would it be possible to ask = best onegaishimas
Man, Jordan is a genius using his headphones as a hair band.
Hey I would like to ask Shiori about how you make international friends in Japan.
a home run *sized* beer should be at least 1420ml/48oz, the equivalent of 4 cans/bases. or, if you're mlb tier: 4 pints ⚾
I hear you get English menus in some places they may charge more. Like a convenience fee. Considering your not to tip is probably worth it. But be carefull while being carefree!
Of course Shiori is gonna have a huge beer…

Looks awesome, except for the beni shoga. 🤮 In Bavaria, I think that home run beer would be considered a medium.
I...... frog legs? I.... I just....
No. Everything in my brain rejects that premise. No.
Just tell yourself it's chicken thighs. Unless you don't eat chicken...
Where I am from frog legs, cow tongues ,chicken legs, and pig legs among other things are quite common that you learn to cook from your grandparents.
@@fontanayoung8375 Cow tongue is delicious!
Is it spelt Hanbey or Hanbei??
Hanbey~
💕
Mikan are the kind of fruit where you wonder why anyone would rather eat candy.
you need to meet Prizza, she is your devlish lost sister, and she speaks english too
I found Jordan, it was from 2015.....
ハンベイ高円寺店と阿佐ヶ谷店がコロナの前にはありました。今はないです🥲
え〜!これは本当に残念だ!もし良いハンベイを探す中吉祥寺の店舗はいつも賑やか〜
This style of food would work well by any major University in the states.

Emma looking like she about to dodge some bullets and free humans from the Matrix
can you pinpoint this on a map for me because i"m having a hell of a time locating it
i am actually from italy... ^^ :D

I need me some good Yakitori
Im eyeing that cucumber 🥒 👀
