They have more than one album. There are 5. The first was released in 1993 and the latest in 2019. Their music is complex, deep, and needs to be listened to more than once to be absorbed. Five incredibly talented men who together are greater than the sum of their parts.
*6 albums if you include Opiate which you should... and *Four incredibly talented men at a time but, I assume you included Paul D'Amour, the original bassist.

Tool is an experience. If you're not looking for it, you don't find it. You just hear music. If it's not their type of music, people just ignore it. But there's always something in their catalog that catches you, and then you understand. I hit my first Tool concert on the mid-90's and it was unlike anything I'd ever seen. The combination of the music, the show, and the way they do it is just different.
I can’t help but get chills and , yes, get tears in my eyes whenever I watch someone hear Tool for the first time along with reading the lyrics. I just have such a deep appreciation and love of this band (I listen to them every day) , I could never pick a favorite song, but there have been temporary favorites during periods of my life
3 decades. That is how long Tool has been a soundtrack in my life. Even in the days of CDs , the bootleg tape would make its way through the US Mail from a friend on the west coast. That was Opiate for me. Drinking, eating shrooms and having a bonfire on the beach at the ripe young age of 21. You are opening up to the joy of MJK. Welcome to not 1, not 2, but several new bands he fronts.
Such a great track. A great cover of this song, if anyone is interested. "Right in two (Tool cover) - Beard of Harmony ft. Yann Phayphet (Live recording)"
TOOL doesn’t have one particular genre and it’s safe to say they are in a genre of their own. They are routinely compared to Pink Floyd. Maynard James Keenan is our generations John Lennon/Bob Dylan, his penmanship is beyond anything any other singer/lyricist can create. They boys are in their 50s so let’s enjoy their music while we still have them making it. Spiral Out ✌️
Tool, what is there to say but brace yourself for something truly unique, intelligent and over all it’s just 1 sonic journey after another. You will see a lot of comments saying “you don’t listen to Tool, you experience it”. That’s a pretty accurate statement. Great reaction, looking forward to more…the 19:52 pot is a great place to start.
I can guarantee you that we like more when you say with a smile in your face "I like this" hahaha That's why we love seeing in people listening to tool for the 1st time, to see them joining the tool army and we know that your life won't be the same after every tool song you're going to discover. And always in the perfect timing!
Really enjoyed you reacting to Tool for the first time. Can’t wait to see more! I recommend The Pot or Descending. Spiral out brother and enjoy the rabbit hole 🌀
Dude, if you are just getting into Tool... I envy you. I wish I could experience Tool for the first time over again. The tool conundrum... Every Tool song is better than the last and it doesn't matter which order you listen to them
You are going to be barraged by Tool requests as the other comment said, but if you take that journey, I can assure you will be glad you did. You seem like an analytical, intelligent person with an artistic, maybe literary side. All of those qualities describe the music of Tool as well. They are doing things that have never been done in modern music.( I can attest to at least the last 100 years of popular music). That may be hard to believe, but it is true. Oh yeah, that percussion sound in the beginning is I believe mostly Tabla Drum which is used primarily in Classical Indian music. ( Think Ravi Shankar or Ali Akbar Khan)
I was already subscribed for your Bo reactions, but I'm a longtime TA member. I had a feeling TOOL would reach you. Try to catch their tour later this year. You wont regret it.
Welcome to the experience that is Tool. This band is life-changing for some people, and pretty much all their work is incredibly detailed and layered. The Tool Army is already anticipating your next Tool reaction and I would recommend The Pot Eulogy, 46 & 2 or Lateralus. Spiral out, friend
I’ve seen every Tool tour, and as amazing as they’ve all been, nothing compares to the show they put on for their first EP “Opiate”. It was in a small private college gym, and they literally hypnotized the crowd. I snapped out of it, looked around, and saw people falling backwards like in a Pentecostal church. I went to tell my very tall friend next to me, and just as I did he fell backwards flat on his back. I will never forget that experience. Just mind-bending.
Heh, "That was a satisfying build-up" - My friend, that's one of the many areas where Tool is at the absolute pinnacle. I do hope you return to them. It's well worth it. Perhaps try Lateralus, Vicarious, or Schism. Fear Innoculum, their most recent album, is brilliant but in my opinion best enjoyed when you know them a little first.
There is absolutely no other band that does what Tool does for me. I’m not the biggest metal fan either, but what Tool does is next level. There will never be a band quite like them. Thanks for reacting to this. Can’t wait to see more reactions from you.
This is written from the prerogative of angels watching us divide ourselves by race, country, state, religion etc then trying to convert or destroy everyone who doesn't fit into our box. We try to conquer everything even though there is already enough of everything for everyone.
One of the absolutely most intricate works of art I've ever enjoyed. God or no God, we're blessed with reason and this is what we choose? Will mankind ever find the way? Puzzling to contemplate resolution.
As an evolution nerd this song has all ways been a favorite of mine. As an artist I love the poetic religious imagery to tell the story. But I find that lay people understand the sentiment and fail to analyze the actual problem because they don’t have an evolutionary view of the species. We literally are evolved “monkeys” (technically apes but primates nonetheless). It’s easy to get confused about why an intelligent human would behave like this but it’s pretty easy to understand it if you think of us as chimpanzees. On this way I think the religious language throws normal people off and confuses them. You have to understand yourself as an evolved primate if you want to understand why we fight over pieces of the ground. I’m not saying we can’t do better. But we have to start by knowing what we are. The sentiment of dividing one into two seems to be about tribalism and selfishness not overpopulation or separation of church and state. It’s like you said at the end. We will take any opportunity to divide into tribes. They have literally done studies and found that there was a no difference so small that we won’t form tribes around it. It’s the research that got me interested in evolutionary sciences to begin with.
I'm not sure if you think they only have one album ... Or you're saying they have one album That is a masterpiece but Tool has five studio albums, and they are all amazing... Maynard, the lead singer, also has two other bands, a perfect circle and puscifer... You should check those out too
Every album of TOOL’s is a masterpiece. Lateralus ( Just my opinion ) is the most esoteric album of our age.. an absolute journey from start to finish. The Grudge is musical / artistic perfection and one of my all time faves. Welcome to the TOOL experience, we the TOOL Army welcome you on this sonic quest..
Between philosophical explorations, mathematical epics, abstract emotional forays, twisted sonic interludes, darkly humorous odes, and long, winding, grandiose symphonettes about chimichangas in Area 51 - yes, there is one, and it's out of this world! - there is absolutely nothing ordinary about this band. Alrighty, then - picture this, if you will: Most groups labour under the idea that they make the music. Tool is one of those rare few who prove that Music makes THEM.
You should do a reaction to the “Vicarious” by Tool, with Lyrics and it will give you an even deeper sense of what the band can do writing about todays society and people in general! 💯🔥
Tool has way more then 1 album and each is a masterpiece and way before it's time. Plus the lead singer, The Reverand James Maynard fronted 2 other bands. They have a song called Laterelus that is based on the Fibonacci sequence. Their song Aenima prob was their most famous but as someone that's seen them 6 times live since i was 17 and would go see them anytime I could, Tool is amazing and once you start looking thru their work you won't want to stop. There is always more then 1 layer of meaning to the lyrics and their music has so many layers and this is a band that sounds the same, if not better, live then they do on their music from the studio (i want to say cd which shows my age, lol) i even got my niece and nephew to listen to them. My niece has been listening since she was 2 and she's now 26 and my nephew loves them as much as i do, if not more and he's 22. I am always interested to see people that have never listened to Tool.
New band you heard of from Reddit? One album? They’re in their 60s and do lots of different projects, and the lead singer is in 3 bands and owns a Vinyard/ restaurant and is a high belt in ju jitsu. They have 5 or 6 albums and whoever it was who recommended them to you, send him a nice bottle of wine! Their music is very complex and takes a long time to make. Danny the drummer (top 3 all time IMO) along with Adam guitarist write tgevmuoand then Maynard adds the lyrics at the end. As he’s become older he considers his voice just another instrument in the band and is often found performing in the back behind the band often in the dark or under a dim spotlight. When he was younger he was more of a front man. His voice and lyricism is second to None. They did win a a Grammy for their newest album. You should start with SOBER live which was really their breakthrough song in 1992. I think 10,000 days may be their best album but it’s almost impossible to say. Regardless whether you do it on the channel or just for your personal wants, go down the Tool rabbit hole and you’ll see why their fans are adamant about them being the best band ever. There’s too many to list but 46&2 is an amazing song especially if you like drums. Danny shines on everything but especially that song and pneuma off their new album. Watch Pneuma Drum Cam version and you’ll wind will blown that 4 guys did that song especially all the extra sounds Danny plays on the tabula pads. Looking forward to your reactions. I’m surprised someone recommended this first. It’s a good song but not too 10 to me. Maynard is anti religious basically but his mother was extremely religious and he hates the hypocrisy she was surrounded by in the church.
My top 10 change often, but Right in Two has stuck with me since I saw it live a year back. It is also an easy introduction to someone who is new to Tool. Everyone does The Pot first, so I went another direction with the request
MJK actually mixes creationism and darwinism by speaking of "God and Angels" but also referring to humans as talking monkeys. I agree. It's more about the concept conveyed than a true religious perspective, but I guess it's all subject to interpretation!
They have put out several albums they r just perfectionist as well as the lead singer has a few other bands as well like A Perfect Circle as well as Puscifer you should take both of those out as well

I recommend not doing the lyrics the first time.. Just feel the song the first time.
@@dangr123 while I would say that to the average person, who is listening to Tool for the first time, I don't think that is appropriate for a reaction video because fans want to hear the person's reaction to both the music and Maynard's lyrics and it seems impractical to make 2 seperate videos.
Love tool so much! Every song of theirs is an incredible experience. Enjoyed your reaction! You got a like 👍
Thanks so much!!
60 year old, here and Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are ALL my favorite top 3 bands. All lead by Maynard James Keenan.
They have more than one album. There are 5. The first was released in 1993 and the latest in 2019. Their music is complex, deep, and needs to be listened to more than once to be absorbed. Five incredibly talented men who together are greater than the sum of their parts.
I must have misunderstood! That means more great music
*6 albums if you include Opiate which you should... and *Four incredibly talented men at a time but, I assume you included Paul D'Amour, the original bassist.
6 albums
Yeah, 4 dudes, they changed bassist back in 1995
@@l.a.native6921actually 7 albums because you have Salival which includes live performances and also includes the No Quarter song by Led Zeppkin.
Discovering and experiencing the music of Tool is going to be a wild ride and I’m looking forward to strapping in and taking the journey with you
Thank you James! I can’t wait. Seems like a very interesting and intense band
These are my favorite songs by member:
Drums-Pneuma (live drum cam)
Bass-Schism or Jambi (can never decide)
Guitar-7empest (an Adam Jones master class)
Vocals-The Grudge
All Together Now!-Lateralus
Have fun!
That percussion sound youre talking about at 10:30 is an indian instrument called tabla
I took my 16 year old son to his first concert ever and it was TOOL. We were centre front of stage 20ft away. Unfortunately I have now screwed it for him for any concert he sees ever
Tool songs start like a morning mist, then gradually builds up to a massive thunderstorm, and you sir, you don't have your wipers on.
Haha, trying to put them on now
I can’t help but get chills and , yes, get tears in my eyes whenever I watch someone hear Tool for the first time along with reading the lyrics.
“Mecca lecca hi, mecca hiney ho!” One should listen to Tool's Jambi at least once a day, every day.
Such a great track.
A great cover of this song, if anyone is interested.
"Right in two (Tool cover) - Beard of Harmony ft. Yann Phayphet (Live recording)"
Maynard (the singer) has 2 other bands. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. The song Judith by A Perfect Circle is a good place to start.
Thank you Christine for the guidance!
Tool is one in a lifetime band. 🌀🌀🌀👍👍👍
I can guarantee you that we like more when you say with a smile in your face "I like this" hahaha That's why we love seeing in people listening to tool for the 1st time, to see them joining the tool army and we know that your life won't be the same after every tool song you're going to discover. And always in the perfect timing!
Oh i didnt know this was your first tool experience, this should be good
Yeah, my first debut!
welcome to Tool Army...... this will be a long journey...... so cool to see people hearing Tool for the first time...... good reaction!
Thank you!
Really enjoyed you reacting to Tool for the first time. Can’t wait to see more! I recommend The Pot or Descending. Spiral out brother and enjoy the rabbit hole 🌀
Awesome thank you Kevin! Can’t wait to hear more
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
Nice work to Taylor for bringing another into the fold. Spiral out Nick. Welcome to TOOL. TOOL Army is here for ya. Subscribed. Now more TOOL. 🤘🏻🌀
It had to be done! Each song is a spiritual journey if you listen rather than hear the music.
Thank you Salty and to Taylor!
TOOL ARMY reporting for duty. TOOL is my generations PINK FLOYD. SUBSCRIBED to watch you go down TOOLS rabbit hole. ✌
Thank you Ben! I appreciate that insight. Well hats off to them for finding cool ways to add to their music
I was already subscribed for your Bo reactions, but I'm a longtime TA member. I had a feeling TOOL would reach you. Try to catch their tour later this year. You wont regret it.
Thanks so much! Right off the bat I knew they had a quality to them
The live show will change your life
We'll just pretend we didn't hear that STP comment. 😁
CRINGE 😖
Welcome to the experience that is Tool. This band is life-changing for some people, and pretty much all their work is incredibly detailed and layered.
The Tool Army is already anticipating your next Tool reaction and I would recommend The Pot Eulogy, 46 & 2 or Lateralus.
Spiral out, friend
“There’s some light metal elements to it …” yeah, the trap is set.
Oh boy You are gonna love these guys!! My 2 obsessions in life lately are TOOL (since 1992) and Bo Burnham!!
Did we just become best friends?
Lol, that's how I found Nick's channel was Bo.
I knew he'd dig Tool, prog metal fan or not!
Welcome aboard.
Lyrics man. Lyrics is what turns Tool from a great band to an AMAZING band.
Thank you Sam. Appreciate the guidance
Enjoy the journey mate, it's a deep, and wild one!
And the quest begins.
One of the absolutely most intricate works of art I've ever enjoyed. God or no God, we're blessed with reason and this is what we choose? Will mankind ever find the way? Puzzling to contemplate resolution.
one of us - one of us - one of us :DD welcome to the Tool Army :D thank you for the reaction
Tool are simply, quietly, incredibly the best active band on this planet… nothing more, nothing less
I think Sober was the first Tool song I heard. It melted off my face immediately.
I just listened to it! Should be out soon
I saw Tool live one time in 2018. Best live show I have ever seen hands down. They are unbelievably good, every song is a masterpiece.
So excited for this one!
I'm not sure if you think they only have one album ... Or you're saying they have one album That is a masterpiece but Tool has five studio albums, and they are all amazing... Maynard, the lead singer, also has two other bands, a perfect circle and puscifer... You should check those out too
Pushit, but the live version.
Fuck YEAH
this is something.. this is what humans should create
Ah, so it begins. The Tool rabbit hole is worth diving all the way to the bottom sir 🌀🤘
Cannot wait!
Greatest band ever
Maybe another fairly accessible one from the same album; Vicarious. More Tool man!
Thank you! Appreciate the suggestion
Alrighty, then - picture this, if you will:
Most groups labour under the idea that they make the music. Tool is one of those rare few who prove that Music makes THEM.
Welcome to the tool army. Greatest band ever, and quite the journey of you plan on doing more Tool.
Thank you so much. Can’t wait
You're in for a treat.
Can’t wait Jimmy
Tool doesn't have a fan base it has an Army .....
Hell yeah man! I hope you do some more Tool videos.
That's the plan! Thank you
Level 1 completed, you've unlocked the gates of Tool... now have fun diggin' into it more, and more, and more... ;-)
Thank you Sven. I’m very excited
You should do a reaction to the “Vicarious” by Tool, with Lyrics and it will give you an even deeper sense of what the band can do writing about todays society and people in general! 💯🔥
Wholesome reaction! Looking forward for more Tool reactions. Good music for life! 🤟
Most definitely! Very much enjoyed myself
Rabbit hole mate. So much good music coming your way.
Can't wait!
You’ve summoned the Tool army.
Father blessed TOOL with thumbs and they are the Greatest band ever. Huge catalog for you to explore. All songs are good
Thank you Scott! Looking forward to the adventure
Nice reaction and interpretation!
Thank you! I appreciate that
They have many albums and all were masterpieces of sound and soul
Yes I was definitely incorrect. Don’t know where I got that in my head. Glad to have more music though!
They have put out several albums they r just perfectionist as well as the lead singer has a few other bands as well like A Perfect Circle as well as Puscifer you should take both of those out as well
Bro I have a master checklist of Tools entire song list I can email you, they have 5 albums and 4 Grammies, Right in Two is a bold choice to start with and is on their 4th album 10,000 Days. The list will explain the structure on how to listen to their music. Spiral out and welcome to the Tool Army! 🌀🌀🌀 (Edit: I emailed you the list)
Side note 5 albums over 30 years is sparse for sure, the did release their 5th album Fear Inoculum in 2019 making it a 13 year gap from the album 10,000 Days. Maynard their singer is in two other bands also A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. He also runs a winery and vineyard in Arizona.
Thank you man! I got your email. So stoked
@@nickforell1let me know if you have any questions on the list, I am thinking of making a list of his other two bands
