As with all dashcams, mount the unit as high as possible in the vehicle and ensure that the amount of sky is no more than a third of the image, possibly only 25%.
The reason for this positioning is that it is the sky, the brightest element, that will control the dashcams exposure levels. So, bright sky = darker roads, sometimes just too dark for license plate readability.
I have the 522 and this positioning works a treat.
Apart from the Garmin 66, the 522 is an excellent choice.
