  • In this video I navigate the myriad of Amazon dashcams in the search for a new camera for my new car.
    I chose the nextbase dashcam because of its reputable brand and fully featured kit of parts available to hardwire the unit in to the car in a non-distructive way. This is really important for me, as the car is leased.
    As well as unboxing, I'll hardwire the unit in to the car. Then in a few weeks i'll come back with another video on my thoughts after some usage.
    If your planning on installing a dashcam, make sure you have the tools and experience to do the job, you can injure yourself or damage the car if done incorrectly. This is not a gide as i have not captured a number of steps, like testing for voltage with a multimeter!

    Have to say I got all the 522 cameras front and back connected up to three different vehicles. I changed the 32GB cards in them all to 128GB and so far av no probs/issues with any of them thankfully.

      The 522GW supports up to 128GB so of course it will work

    Just curious, how's the cam working for your non-dash cam uses? And are you able to turn the time-date stamp off? I'm looking for a cam with very good video quality and where the time-date stamp can be disabled (so using the cam for just pure drive video's), and thought this cam might do the trick. Would love to know what you're thoughts are on this cam after using it for 3 months now! Thanks.

    Previous owner of my car installed "Forever dash cam in mirror" but the quality of video isn't enought good, espiecially in winter where's dark outside even in the middle of day.
    So i've decided to buys ome new dash cam. I was looking for that very long.
    I've decided to buy Nextbase 622GW with roof camera.
    The main reason was good quality of videos and app to transfer videos to phone without any cables.

    I've just bought a new 522GW which I believe is a series 2. It didn't come with a metal plate on the front of the camera, but a cardboard cover. Also there was no suction pad in the box.

    Is it normal for both cameras to not show the correct distances for vehicles? In both the front and rear views the cars seem so far away but in real life I know they are closer.
    Also how can I stop the rear camera mirroring? Thanks

    Hi Evlain. Njoyed your video. I did enquiry with Nextbase about the use of parking mode and they told me to hardwire to a constant live fuse like the radio. This is because the hardwire kit has a built in cut-off of 11.2 volts, so as not to drain your battery.
    I'm just doing a lot of research at the moment but will hopefully be buying this model pretty soon 😃
    Any nearer to part 2...?
    Thanks again 👍👍

      This is really a stupid waste of watching time it has nothing to do with turning it on and showing whether it works or not and how easy it connects to Wi-Fi instantly anywhere what a joke

      Hi James. The funny thing is, shortly after this my car starting developing battery draining issues so I've put off getting this for the time being. At least now I know how to wire it up...
      I do like the idea of parking mode though & if you get the cabin view module you'll be able to see if anyone has been peering through your windows if they've jolted the car at all..

      I got my dashcsm for parking mode too. It's s great dashcam for quality only while driving. I got mine rigged up to live. And I have to unplug mine after driving. Cause just after appox 24 hours it drains my car battery completely. Which sucks

    Very nice and informative video! Quick question tho; would this dashcam suffice for lorry drivers do you think? I have been looking for a decent dashcam, and i keep on steering back towards the nextbase 522GW because of its overall simplicity and superior video quality + it is one of the few non chinese made products, but it seems like it is more suitable for a car than for a lorry; so i'm a bit affraid of ordering one and then stumbling upon some compatibility issues afterwards.

    • @eviain
      @eviain  4 роки тому

      Hi! So checking the mounting it looks like it would cope with a flatter screen profile, there is enough rotation in the mounting it that make sense. Voltage wise, check you have a commercial vehicle it is likely to have 24v system, but you may also have 12v too. in any case the nextbase hardwire kit is compatible with either. If in doubt consult an automotive workshop as they will be able to check the specifics of your vehicle. Thanks!

    Great video. Gives me some confidence in fitting it myself. Can I ask if it matters about the size of fuse it replaces in the fuse box please?

    • @eviain
      @eviain  Рік тому +1

      The piggy back fuses have a space for the fuse you remove, you need the right type and the fuse needs to be a circuit that comes on with the car otherwise you’ll drain your battery. Best consult the manual or an auto electrician

      Totally! I hate this camera because it has major connectivity issues. I wired the unit permanently and will probably tear it out and hawk it to a stranger for pennies just to rid myself of this junk.
      I rate this on pair with Uniden home electronics except NextBase cost more.

    I can't make up my mind whether to mount the dash cam using the sticky mount or the suction cup. I think the sticky mount might come undone in hot sunshine during the summer months. What are your thoughts on this Evlain?

    • @eviain
      @eviain  2 роки тому

      I’ve been really impressed with the suction cup, I’d go with that first, you can always change it later. Also depending on how you’ve purchased your car it may be better, as it’s easier to remove when you come to sell/give back/px

      I think its due the fact that some countries come with their own specific rules when talking about this topic involving dashcams. Germany for instance allows dashcams, but it is only legal if you do not record constantly and only if there is something going on.

  • @turbo3492

    Nice instructional video, however, one very important step has been entirely overlooked.Before plugging the fuse tap into the chosen fuse outlet on the car's fuse board,you need to test which leg of the vacant fuse location is positive.If you do not do this,it is possible to put the fuse tap in the wrong way around.If the tap is the wrong way around, the camera would still work as it should but would have absolutely no fuse protection.

    • @eviain
      @eviain  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Thanks for the message. If you have one that works as you describe, a bin would be a very good location for it! You should only have conductivity between one pin though the fuse to the flying lead. The only fuse that should be connected to both pins is the inner fuse that replaces the one removed. I can confirm that is how the next base kit ones work. However I’m sure some less scrupulous companies are doing it a very naughty way..

    Before hard wiring I'd check your warranty if you have one. Some warranties are void if you hard wire your dash cam.

    • @eviain
      @eviain  2 роки тому

      Great point. If you cut cables you are almost certainly. In this case the car was leased and the specific instructions were. 1. The lease company felt that fitting a dashcam was in their interest 2. The dash cam must be installed using the piggyback fuses to make the fitting entirely reversible.
