    When a plant is totally dry, when you water it, water can come out the bottom BEFORE the soil is saturated. That’s why it’s important to have a deep saucer/bowl under the pot and water it several times and let it sit in the water for 15-20 minutes (or more) so it can suck up as much as it needs. Then drain and let it dry out (totally) before you water next time.

    That’s a nice myrtillocactus! That soil mix won’t work on anything really hydrophobic like Ariocarpus or Copiapoa since there’s a lot of peat moss, but myrtillocactus are very forgiving of even the worst mixes like miracle grow 😊

    I think I finally found the cause for my cactus to turn somewhat brown/yellow at the base, bending over and shrinking from the middle part. I had kept it on too low water for years! And perhaps because it didn't had gotten enough light...Now I have moved my cactus to a sunnier place and given it plenty of water. I'll have to see if it will revive it!

    How do you keep your terracotta pots look that good? Mines are all crusty with white residue

    • @EssentialBlue
      @EssentialBlue Рік тому

      The crusty white stuff is chalk. You have two choices. Either carefully remove it with an acid like vinegar essence or use water with less chalk. You can boil the water and fill it into your watering can when it has room temperature or use rain water. Or use purified water and risk removing all the important substances the plant needs and then over-fertilising.

      No....but just make sure the water doesn't sit or remain on the cactus...mit needs to dry otherwise it could lead to fungal issues.....they get wet in their natural habitat but the difference is air flow and evaporation

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  9 місяців тому +1

      Could you drill a hole in the bottom? Have had to do this with a few pots. You could always use a plastic nursery pot as an insert. So when you water the plant you can take it out of the pot without a hole and empty out any excess water.... That is what kills succulents
