Casey, I have spent the last 2 days trying to determine how to store my proxy files as they have completely bogged down my hard drive....then your video popped up! Thank you so much! All of your videos make Resolve so much easier and your description of the working folders was something I couldn't find anywhere else. Honestly, I rarely look at any other Resolve videos anymore because you teach the way I learn.

You are by far the best guide for this. I keep having trouble with this retched software, but you manage to make it simple to follow along.
What happened now? I had 18. The Cache folder ballooned to 600GB. Yes, in one session, it filled up my drive to where everything crashed. I had 2GB left free. This is an editing rig, with nothing else on it, and it crashed. BAD. So bad, that now my Davinci Resolve is back to a 17....
All the settings crapped out. So I had to go through everything, redo my preferences. So anyone that edits, this is the guy to follow.

13:30 - "Make sure you set that to a drive that has lots of free space". That got me wondering, so I checked my Media Storage Location and it's sitting at 550GB right now. OUCH. Time for a purge!
This came one day too late for me though, as just yesterday I went through the Resolve manual and read up on every one of the settings as there were several there that I realized that I had no idea what they were! Some definitely have pretty cryptic names in the UI.

Great video - I have been watching you and learning for a month or so now and actually have started a screen saver with movement(animation) for windows. My issue is when I render my memory jumps to 84% usage and never goes back until I show off resolve - I have a new system I-7 10700K with 64Gb of Ram. Is the high memory usage normal? Would adding a GPU help? Thanks! Keep up the awesome Videos!!

How do I make resolve stop using the last remaining 12gb on my OS main drive? I installed it to an extra drive and changed the default folders all to be in the extra drive but it still keeps eating space randomly. I also have crashes happen too often and I'm unsure how to resolve it. The "glitch' FX is impossible to use because it wont render without crashing, even a five second clip. Would upgrading to studio resolve (no pun intended) a lot of these issues possibly? I'm scared to try 🤔

You might wanna try Power Bins within Resolve. On your top menu, click on View, and find Power Bins (it's around the bottom of the dropdown menu). Once you have that switched on, it'll appear in your Media Pool. Power Bins allow you to place media that you'll be using across multiple projects, as long as it's within the same database. You can even create bins to help you organise your files. However, take note you'll need to keep the files on the same directory.

At 06:58 you discuss briefly "Motion range" (along with the other settings "Retime process" & "Motion estimation mode"). You state that I "can always change these for each individual clip". I have NEVER found any other place to change "Motion range", though I can change the other settings ("Retime process" & "Motion estimation mode") elsewhere. I believe I understand the affect of "Motion Range" to be the amount of pixel movement between two frames, if I choose "small" then DR-18 just uses small changes in pixel location to make the interpolated new frame and should process this faster than the "Larger" choice. Is this sounding about correct?
I frequently use Optical Flow w Speed Warp, yet 'Speed Warp' is NOT and option at 06:58, any idea why?
I subscribed long ago and have viewed repeatedly many of your vids, including some that have involved some extensive testing (e.g. resolution compare for YT). I am hoping to cajole you (via commentary plaudits) to do a comprehensive testing video of Optical Flow and/or a much more detailed/in-depth of the "Frame Interpolation" dialogue box in Project Settings / Master Settings.
    Thanks all.

You can create a project preset that will be the default whenever you create a new project. First, in project settings set all the settings you commonly use. Once you're done, go to Presets, and Save As. Give it a title. Next, right click on the new preset and select Save As User Default Config.
