At time of filming the Sherpa 450 engine design wasn't released, after now seeing its design we can be sure to say the valve adjustment won't be suitable for most DIY mechanics. The result of that will require a large workshop bill to get the valves checked because this configuration becomes a time consuming job. Having said that the overall design is more efficient, but more reliable? I highly doubt it, but thats just another debate for another video. even more reason to buy the 411! reliable, well proven engine, cheap to maintain and you can work on it yourself. No matter what you do, enjoy your ride!
One more thing air filter under the fuel tank. It's same problem like changing ducati desert x air filter.

CFMoto 450 MT is the main competition for the Sherpa/Himi. Slightly more HP and torque. 270-Twin and being KTMs partner since 2013 stacked full of tech features and digital dash. They’ve being pushing more and more to make a place for themselves here and slowly been gaining traction in recent years. Pricing between this and the Sherpa/Himi will be watched by some. EICMA video are out on this one.
@@nicksepisodeThanks for this review , I'm probably more swayed to go SCRAM out of these two bikes , even though im keen on both , but both have there own personality which I like in each bike . I love the simplicity of the ENFIELDS , and the do it your self maintenance , and thanks again for your maintenance videos . I've owned many bikes like yourself Nick , including a few GS/A s , the last one I did over 70000 klms on it , and loved doing every klm on it , but as I age , I'm really injoying the smaller capacity bikes now , rather than the big clumps of heavy high powered , big maintenance clumps of metal . My Misses has a Yamaha XMAX 300 , and I love it , lots of fun , out of the 3 bikes I currently own , it's my go to bike . Life seems to be a big circle , when we are born we are in nappies , if we live long enough , we will end up wearing them again , and dying in one . Riding motorcycles are the same , when we started riding as a kid , 50 , 70 , 125 , 250 cc is what we learnt on , and had fun on , as we got older , and started working , we bought bigger and better and faster bikes , but at a cost , and realised the ups and downs of bigger and faster , and heavier bikes , so as we age as a motorcyclist , that circle of life kicks in as well with motorcycling , because as we age we realise we don't need big , heavy , high powered motorcycles to have fun , the lower capacity ones are a lot of fun , lighter , and so much easier to enjoy , at a 3 rd of the price , and are happy to chug along all day at the speed limit , and at the end of the day , you can only do the speed limit anyway ,

I have a 2020. Love it, warts and all. Yes, the dash steams up. Yes, it's not brilliant on the motorway. Yes, neutral can be found between any gears but never when stationary, at traffic lights 🙄. I don't go offroad, but this bike is really confidence inspiring. Just what a 64 year old lady (with only 8 years experience) needs!!!

17:04 I think the tractor comment is a compliment, but people misconstrue it as insulting. Reliability, and ease of fixing when it does break is what I think of when I think of tractors and Himmys.
Rancher fella that I know has at least 2 tractors that are older than he is, and hes in his 50s... Id say thats just a good thing.

Hi Nick. Your review is spot on. I have a 2017 model. I bought it from a chap in North Yorkshire and rode it back to Oxfordshire via the Peak District. Bump absorbing suspension, an after market taller screen and gel seat. I got off at the end and thought I could turn around and just ride the route again!
The engine is a peach. Easy maintenance as you say which makes ownership more satisfying.

I already have one. I have the lovely sleet version. I have used it on the motorway (adequate) off road (good) & on country roads (amazing)
It took me a while to get used to after riding Japanese inline 4s for a while. I loved it straight away but then started to get bored of it until winter came, now I love it again because its so stable and comfortable.

There's something about the looks of the Himalayan that is quite satisfying. I prefer its looks over the Hunter. The 2024 Himalayan's tank is too insectoid for me.

Hi Mate, at the ripe old age of 68, I traded my 9 year old 675 Street Triple in a couple of months ago for a brand new granite black Himalayan 411. I got a brilliant deal. I don't miss the power at all, as you say, it's all you need.....so relaxing to ride and comfortable. Planning some trips next year that I wouldn't have contemplated on the Triumph on which I felt perched like a race horse jockey!. I had the same problem with the levers so I bought a pair of adjustable ones from Hitchcocks in Solihull.
Hi Gary, thanks for sharing your story. It's becoming very common that people are changing their fast bikes for the lower capacity motorcycles. With speed limits decreasing and traffic increasing, you really don't need a fast bike. These offer that charm most modern high capacity bikes don't offer. Enjoy your new bike and have a great trip!
I have the same Himmy in blue. Its 6 months old now and im loving it. I bought it to replace a Suzuki SP370 I had years ago and its filled the roll perfectly without the 6v electrics and a kick start that wanted to break your ankle. Iv put Enfield hand guards, 30mm tec bar risers on and connected the heated gloves wires to the battery and thats it. At 5-11 and 19 stone I dont feel cramped and it zips along at 65 no problem. Theres no weight or pain in my old arthritic wrists or knees so is comfy to ride apart from a bit of a numb bum. When I bought it I sold my 1200 Bandit which I regret doing as the Himmy hasn't got the go for faster rides with mates but as a ride alone bike its fast enough. Faults so far, clocks steam up and the engine pinks/Knocks a bit when given some gas at about 5,000 revs. Hand grips are a bit hard so new grips will be the next job. I still have an old Harley so longer summer rides loaded up are covered but I can see another Bandit joining them in the garage. My Himmy is a keeper.! You just have to accept it for what it is and enjoy the ride.!!

Have a 2018 and 2019 Himalayan have 20,000 on both of them have had no issues and ridden alot of highway and off road models, right now we have 500 dollars on all royal Enfield models. These bikes are easy to work on valves are easy and climbing is what this bike does well. SJ

Enfield upgraded the relays on your model (you have same as me). Previous version failed due to cheap relays. 20mph in wales only applies to villages / urban areas, there is a perception its most of wales which it isnt. Ive fallen in love with my himmy, and if you look after it, it will look after you. So capable off road. Ive enjoyed having a bike i can work on again, so simple. I struggled with lack of power, fitted tec cam, dna filter, powerage exhaust, fuelx lite and it is a different bike.

Our town is in England and the council has introduced some changes to the road speeds in the town it’s down to 20 mph! I hope this isn’t a new trend for councils!

You addressed one very important stat that most, if not all, youtubers miss out, inside leg measurement. It's not always about overall height as whatever is above the flat part of the seat when you're foot is on the ground is completely immaterial. Same IL as I am by the way.

I have seen loads of reviews on the Himalayan.....but i do think yours is the best ....all sensible comments...i agree about the screen ....only thing i didnt like take off its much better .

Great video Nick, l take it because you are a mechanic you can work on the bike without affecting the warranty. l am looking into buying a Scram for a winter bike, there are a few new ones going for £3999 at the moment
I mean, you are kind of correct about the warranty. It wouldn't depend on your case. Might be worth you taking pictures or film for evidence just encase. RE are a friendly down to earth Corp. Unlike some where they won't touch a warranty if you haven't gone to maindealer. Either way, the scram is fantastic. It is all the best

the standard rear suspension preload adjustability set to max, exceeds 30% rider sag at around 90kg. fully clad male with luggage such as the RE panier aluminium boxes will easily surpass what the rear shock has to offer.
Luckily, hitchcocks / yss offer a very good replacement with nearly endless preload adjustability, 5mm height adjustability, and rebound dampening adjustability for an unusually (for rear shocks) low price

Great review. I own one and have done 1800 miles so concur with your observations. The clocks even steamed up in my Kawasaki that was more than double the price!

Watching you put it on the main stand reminded me what a pain it was with my Tiger 1200 Explorer. Fancy a light runabout. 411 Himalayan or Voge Rally 300 top of my list.

The OG Air-cooled Himalayan is not only a beautiful motorcycle but it has a rugged look and feel about it and it's going to be around for a long time 👍✊

I have the same colorway, quite handsome, yes? One difference is the windscreen, mine is clear, not smoke. Maybe the clear screen is a US market thing. I am a similar height as you and I don't get any buffeting from the screen at all, perhaps your helmet shape might be affecting it. I bought my Himalayan in July this year and have over 4,000 miles at this point and I love it.
Maybe you have a different screen. Try standing while riding. See if wind noise changes. You can even hear the wind reduction in this video when I stand

I think it's funny how obvious the power difference is when it's cooler compared to when it's warmer.Never noticed it on my previous motorcycles but they had 80hp more on average 😅

Hi Steve, the nc is a do it all bike, also a lot more money, the himmy is also a do it all bike but not great for 70mph long distance, but it has so much more charm! always puts a grin on my face while riding
Hi Nick, enjoy the channel and great bikes. You mentioned the 3 year warranty, do you know what the warranty claim service is like in the UK. I live in New Zealand my Interceptor has a gear box problem has been in the shop for 3 month's now and still waiting for parts, love the bikes but starting to lose the faith.😢
Oh no thats not good. Sorry to hear about that. Fortunately I haven't had an issues so I can't comment on the UK warranty service. Hope yours get fixed soon

When the new 450 Himalayan comes out this bike will be discontinued so they say we will see ,one guy down here in Australia took this bike right around the country did a lot of graver roads and we got a lot he took it round Tasmania to then he road round newzeland ,the bike just keeps going if you do the maintenance ,it’s just a bit slow on long distance ,but fine for the UK ,old jimmy WA

I ride a scram 411 and I can’t really knock the Royal Enfield, a lot of the issues were fixed ages ago. Like you said relays were an issue perhaps on some year 1 bikes. The engine is a fantastic motor. 😊

I had a 2021 model in blue and white which I liked, but sold after 2500 miles to a buyer that waved a lot of cash at me. Regretted it, and now my dealer is offering $1,900 ! off on brand new 2022 models. I'm pretty sure I'm going to jump on one of these even tho' I already have 5 other bikes.... I should add that I'm 75 yrs. old, barely 5'4" tall with a 27" inseam. I lowered my stock seat by carving out some foam, and it was great.

This was simply easy to go everywhere machine ..... Now 2024 Himi 450 will complexing with his new age electronics .... Lets see how it goes 👍🏻
As Nathan The Postman pointed out the 411, like the NC, appears to have a much lower centre of gravity than the new Himalayan, which should make it much easier to move around.
i haven't looked at the figures but i'm sure the 450 himmy has a lower centre of gravity because the engine is now a stress member allowing them to locate it lower than the 411, pus the fuel tank is lower. making the 450 a better bike to push around i would assume

just been fixing an old 2018 model for a friend , usual stator problems etc, it ran shit on E10, I filled the tank with E5 and it transformed the response, what fuel have you used in yours?
i always use e10 and hadn't had any issues, then again mine was a 24 model so may have been updated
What is your opinion on a second hand 411? I've seen some on autotrader going for 2700 with 5k ish miles. Does that matter for a bike ? Going to be my first bike I think
No reason why a 5k wont be solid as long as it’s been looked after. Can’t beat buying a new one tho !
How do you measure in stone? Is it lava or granite stones you use and do people mind if you take bigger ones?

Hi Nick, re: NC750X
Fitted 2" bar risers and no issues with throttle.
Recently had everything off and back on the bars, and the throttle was sticking open when held at low revs.
Initially adjustment tighter at the bar end sorted this. But now starting to stick open at low again.
Finally able to reach throttle body and loosen both lock nuts but see that there is no adjustment nut on the throttle "B"/closing cable.
Could I ask your opinion/guidance?
make sure cable route is correct, no sharp change of direction on the cable or any pinching
@njepisodes yeah, the routing is as it should. Do you have a video on throttle adjustment? I understand that the B cable has to be tightened up first, but the NC doesn't seem to have an adjuster nut on the otherside of the locknut for that cable.
They both need to be tightened, so no slack
Nice video, i've got a 2022 and just get my valves adjusted but i still hear a noise from the engine, like a clicking, specialy at 3000rpm...checked again the valves and they're in the claerence range. Has yours done something like that? Thanks.

Bet it doesn't sag 2 inches when Jodie sits on it. I think I prefer the look of the Himalayan, looks different without all the panniers that seem to be on the videos I watch. There might be a demographic that likes fiddling with a bike just as much as riding it and as you say, the 450 is going to be very different, are shims that difficult? I managed on the Hillman Imp pre You Tube but we had good Haynes manuals back then.
Shims are about a 4-5 hour job, then you need to order the right shims after some calculating then waiting for them to arrive while bikes in bits. not ideal and best to take to a garage. and no it dont sag 2 inches with Jo on...cheeky
Hey bro, do you order parts from ebay for royal enfield? And when u do service, u change oil and air filter plus gasket .. do u change smh esle in regular service? I am not sure should i buy new 450 or just get used 411 himi with only 1400kms on clock .. Thanks for ur help
the new himi no doubt is faster and more refined, but the older one is a lot cheaper and has more soul. easy to work on too! parts are fine from ebay

As the wind noise decreased when you stood and I assume, the turbulence, wonder how a shorter screen would go.

I got the short windshield from Hitchcocks, no turbulence just clean wind. I ride alot at 65-70mph and decided it's to much wind so I bought the taller screen still a little turbulence but much better than factory screen

I feel like RE might be making a huge mistake discontinuing this model. I think they should have just released the 450 for the US market. I know that the Scram will still be available but one will need a lot of modifying for an ADV rider.

Good video but the millage not good at all. you are saying around just under 300 Km per tank compared to over 550 on the 350cc models with the 15 liter tank. even there 13 liter tank will give you over 450 km per tank. I like the look of the Bullet and the Classic but the Meteor has a 15 liter as the others have a 13 liter tank. In Canada that can mean the difference of just filling your tank or having to carry extra gas. I hear that the new 450 will get much better range with a 17 liter gas tank and average of 30 kmpl will be just over 500 km per tank. I rather pay for valve adjustment once a year, than be praying I make it to the next gas station, and hopping it is open. But I did like it when I could do my own valves, so simple and quick, if you can get at them. Did a trip to Newfoundland and found a lot of gas stations on the GPS were closed down. One thing I do not like on the newer Royal Enfield bikes is no kick starter and no heal toe shifter. Just something about starting a ride by kick starting the bike, I learned on heal toe shifters and can not under stand why they do not put them on all bikes. Thanks for the video, another grate bike scratched off my list.

For any owners, how is it for motorway driving, thinking of grabbing one but I do about 40 miles on the motorway 4 days a week.
Not great for motorway, not enough gears. Will cruise at 60mph all day though. Maybe the new model would be better for your situation

Is it not a disadvantage to have an liquid cooled engine on an adventure bike? I think simplicity is the best option if you are truly going out in the wilds. The less parts the better.

Whether you like it or not depends on who you are. Take away the ego and any design pretense and you're left with a basic industrial machine.. like Sgt Friday always said.. just the facts ma'am! He must have been referring to the Himmi. 😄

R.E. makes nice bikes in term of riding feeling, but the wheels on some of them - tubed 🤢🤢 I would buy the Interceptor 650, but for some reason, our local dealer didn't get to us the last version - with normal wheels... LEDs.... yet ! Maybe next year ....🤔🤔
THIS Himalayan = simply underpowered 🤷🏻♂️Not in terms of unneded, high top speed. Some situations do require a decent* accelleration - just to get out of danger, or to take distance from stupid-ass car drivers ..... This bike - doesn't do it. Good for calm riding / traveling, but especially for city usage - I wouldn't buy it. Yes - depends on the location and how many 🤪👈🏻 you share the roads with.

The new 450 may fill that gap
IF you ( both ) have decided to keep THESE bikes, you MUST install PROPPER - VISIBLE - EXTRA LED lights ❗❗☝☝🧐 - That little red car - the driver 100% didn't see you !

What - WHY ❓️ ... Even it had all the rights, still, car shouldn't just, jump out like a blind horse....
Besides, the issue here is not this, or that car....The point is - Himalayan and Scrambler have crappy front lights - barely visible for other road users... Have to be improved, if they keep these bikes
As with anything, never get first production runs. Yammie Noob had issues with his test rides. Probably lots of gremlins to work out. Secondly I think the 452 kinda violated the principle philosophy of the 411 in terms of serviceability, reliability, and simplicity.
I've always thought this. Even when buying cars. Let them sort teething problems first. Himmy 411 is fully ironed out
How come no one comets on that goofy looking front fender ? It looks fake to me and doesn't have any meaningful purpose. Is it just for looks?
It serves no purpose, its just for lookis. I mean I kinda like it but I can see how it looks goofy.
How tall is your wife? Im a dude of the optimal male height of 5'7. The scram sounds perfect, but there are more Himalayans near me.
I'm 5ft 4in but have longish legs for my height lol. I'm a 31 inch leg in trousers. Hope that helps 😊 - Jo
