Price has now been confirmed at a bargain £4,599!
Good price! But a fair bit more than the meteor. Is it worth it over that? Seem very similar?
Ofcourse , it is capable of those occasional offroad trails which the Meteor is definately not
,,
Wow you pay a lot of money for bikes in the UK.
United States it’s 5,099 plus doc fee plus “shipping fees “ then tax title putting it over 6,000usd a bit steep I think it can get outran by 250cc twin bikes priced the same or less out the door. Sad about thats
Enjoyed that. Thanks, Andy. I was pretty impressed by the bike, too, when I rode it last week. The only thing putting me off buying one is the rumoured arrival of a more modern 450cc/40hp version next year.
I wouldn’t worry about a newer version next year you will have swapped twice before then 😀😉😉
That rumour feels all wrong
Don’t think enfield will get 40hp out of a 450cc (presumably) air cooled (and maybe oil cooled) single. If it has that kind of power, it’ll probably be liquid cooled and have a different (higher revving) engine character. Might be nice, but not what enfields are about for me
It will take almost 2 years to release in international markets. I think for now, SCRAM is totally worth it
@@Gnerko123 hey buddy its true lots of spy videos out on UA-cam checkout
I've been waiting for this review. Great to see you are the first to review the bike. There's nothing wrong with a utilitarian motorcycle. With the way the world is going I can see more people using utilitarian motorcycles as their daily transport
Been looking forward to seeing this bike since the hype, and hasn't failed my expectations. Yes, the welds are a bit ugly, but then as long as they do what they are supposed to do, and I too wondered if the exhaust was stainless steel, hence the early 'discolouration'. A roll bag on the back, and some very pleasant weekends away around the lakes, or the borders area would be great.
Really enjoyable review, nice to have this one in the market! I think the CB500X is a different category altogether, better in all aspects (engine, resale, fuel economy, comfort). I probably would compare this to the Husqvarna 401, the KTM 390 Adv, or the BMW GS310.
Thanks for this review, the first ride on UK roads of this latest iteration of the Himalayan. Just a quick point about the exhaust system on the bike, which looks identical to the exhaust on the latest Himalayan to my eyes. You mention discolouration and rust. The system is stainless steel and as such can't rust in the sense that it'll corrode significantly, as is the case with mild steel. It will however discolour due to oxidisation. This effect is accelerated due to heat. It quickly reaches a point of stability beyond which it will discolour no further. I have a three year old Himalayan with this patina and I quite like the look. It's very common with stainless exhausts and whilst it's not to everyones liking the upside is you'll never need to replace it because it's rusted to hell.
Love the looks, reminds me of my old Honda SLR 650,great bike which I had for 9 years, gotta agree about the welds.
Great video Andy.👍🏻
I've got a SLR 650 at the moment. Great bike.
New series coming …. ‘Scran on a Scram with Geoff and Dan’ …. 😂
OH yes , like the jacket , looking like a Dobbie fashion show. 10 out of 10😀
Obviously i`m in the minority, but why is everyone going mad for an indian bike pretending to be british [like BMW mini !] that looks and sounds like cheap chinese tat ?.
Probably more British than Triumph to be fair. They are just simple, well built bikes. Not well built in a Japanese way, but they are tough in a way that the Chinese bikes aren’t
Makes no sense to me either !
Wait till the market is flooded with this tat and they have no resale value !
@@ian-c.01 If a RE lost literally all of its resale value, it would still lose less than many European £15-£20k bikes! They aren’t losing their value though - Himalayans have been out 6 years now and all but the roughest ones still fetch £3k+
@@sagalout You can't really compare it to a bike with a £15 to £20K price tag though, they retain more than half their purchase price for over a decade.
The Scram will not !
@@ian-c.01 That’s kind of what I mean though. In actual money cost you can’t lose much on a Scram. As I say, the Himalayans have been out 6 years now and have lost about £1300 in that time (they were about £4300 when they came out)
Another quality review once again Andy, if the price is circa 4.5k or there abouts I think the dodgy welds and suspect exhaust might well be acceptable for me especially if this was to be a second bike. I like the look of the white and red colour scheme as it reminds me of my first Bike a 1977 Yam DT175, showing my age there 😃.
Yes £4,599 as it happens - bargain....
What on earth are those yellow blobs? They look awful.
Motogb price is £4599 or £4699 for turquoise or white flame so well under that 5k Andy ;)
Royal Enfield has been caught testing several times their Himalayan 450 liquid cooled motorcycle producing about 40 horses. Expected launch is sometime next year. I hope we will get to see TMF review it.
Me too!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Hopefully won't be too functional looking like the 411s.
I bet it will be! I rather like the looks of the 411.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer You mean the Himalayan 411?
Liquid cooled? Ugh, here we go, heavier and more complex.
I think lots of reviewers are missing the point with the new single cylinder RE bikes. I have a 350 classic and bought it primarily for transport as I would the Scram or any of the other singles. So if you start from will it get you cheaply, safely and comfortably to work or out and about on your daily travels then anything it does over and above this is a bonus. I don’t have and don’t need a tripper or other electronics but heated grips fitted for £100 worth every penny. Until recently I had a 1098 Ducati and a 990 KTM, fantastic bikes, but hugely impractical as an everyday mode of transport. As far as fashion is concerned I’m guessing that your gear plus helmet, etc. adds up to at least a quarter of the price of the bike? Makes a bit of a nonsense if you are looking to buy a cost efficient and practical mode of transport. I can see it, and get it, in terms of hobby/Leisure vehicles but if we want more people riding bikes then it needs to be attainable for anyone looking to progress from pedal power.
I think a lot of reviewers forget how cheap the bikes are. The Interceptor always gets compared to the Bonneville which is 50% more expensive and has a bigger engine. That's just not a fair comparison. I've got a Bonneville and I don't think it's really £3000 better than an Interceptor, it's a bit better of course but not that much
Interesting Video Andy.
I've recently changed from a BMW k1200 to the Himalayan. I do think that as an owner of one of these kind of hikes that you have to accept that these bikes are built down to a price.
My Himmy is 250 miles old and the exhaust can has done the same. It's nothing a bit of autosol won't sort though.
The welds are indeed rubbish but I accept this. If this is a problem then buyers need to look else where.
I would like a Triumph Tiger but at the best part of twice the price I dont believe I would have more fun on a tiger than I am on my new Himmy.
I can throw this bike about. Probably drop it on a green lane and then repair it without the need to take out a loan.
The engine ln these bikes whilst sounding very under powered is actually really good fun. It has enough power to get me across the country loaded up and scratch the local country lanes.
One observation on the 411 is that the Speedo drive looks different on the front right fork. Not sure i saw the cable coming down the fork?
Visited my local RE dealer today and they had a couple in stock. The speedo drive is different. its missing from the front wheel. I could not see the rear wheel in detail but I have to assume its fitted there somewhere... It does make the front look a bit tidier not having the speedo electronics floating around.
Well I made a comment some time ago on my own channel about quality and finish on Indian and Chinese machines I really want to like this bike but they (RE) have done themselves no favours handing out a press bike with quality issues reminiscent of old British bikes and up and coming Japanese machines in the late 60's /70's this isn't the way to gain new customers I would rather pay more and buy a European equivalent nice review Andy 💚
Thanks for watching!
185 kg no thanks wish yamaha would modernise the famous xt 500 at 145 kg more power than scram
I like the look of the scram411 but the welds were disappointing. The exhaust needs a replacement full system and I’d remove the ugly grab handle and a little more power would be nice too. But I’d definitely use it off road. Love the look of the jacket too.
I think Royal Enfield are just trying to getting shot of the 411 lump, prior to introducing a liquid cooled engine in the Himalayan platform next year. I had a Himalayan euro 5 until I sold it this week - loved riding it on so many levels but just too many flaws. The quality and reliability is poor - the Scram 411 will be no different - style over substance in my opinion.
Just got three thousand miles on my Scram , and fitted a Tec camshaft , loved the Scram , but the cam replacement really does improve the bikes engine torque range , less bogging down on second gear and pulls far smoother in 4th at 30 mph , engine is quieter to , think its because it
hasnt got all the decompression tranclament on the replacement cam to rattle about , yourwelcome to try it , thanks , great review
Since the Scram shares, most of its components with the Himalayan which came out in 2016 the flaws too have been carried forward. Weld quality on the frame and headstock is crude and Quality levels have improved since the Himalayan first made its debut, but there’s still a lot to be desired. Also, a point to note is that RE Interceptor and GT 650, Classic and the Meteor 350 are all the bikes that came after 2018 by then RE have vastly improved their Build Quality this is the reason why the Interceptor and the latter released bikes have better build quality. According to me RE Scram 411 uses the same old Tooling as the Himalayan hence the poor weld quality. It's better to wait for the new Himalayan 450 which will be launched next year and will have a better build quality and more power & torque.
Thank you for your insights, Sohan Amin.
Some people would prefer the simplicity and back to basics of this model though. Maybe some good deals on this model as and when the 450 emerges onto the market
Bollocks! I have just bought a Himalayan - i did not know a new one was coming out.
@@Jsixseven It will still take a year. RE has few other bikes in pipeline that will come b4 450 himalayan.
@@Jsixseven oh nothing to worry , the new Himalayan is gonna be way too different from these. It’s gonna be a Liquid cooled 450 cc high revving machine. Not even close to these beauties. The 450 is going to be a proper off roader with Enfield’s looking at Dakar too .. Moreover the Himalayan has had its polishings and what you get today has to be the best iteration of that 400 cc ever. Congratulations , safe riding !
Good review that, I’d reckon with a Tec Parts performance cam and Lextec exhaust it will be much improved. A great bike for upgrading at affordable prices.
Another great review Andy👌 Girlfriend rides Himalayan which I also like but not entirely convinced about the looks. Scram looks much better IMO. Slightly improved performance and braking might be coming from the weight loss😆 Recently moved to Salisbury plains so this would be ideal bike and especially at this price point. Agree with you on the colour scheme, white and red looks awesome and it’s the Polish flag 🇵🇱 😃😃😃
In terms of looks it reminds me a bit of my old Yamaha RS200.
The Himalayan is "too utilitarian"???
but this None specific Compromise is good!?
This Bike is an Himalayan.... that cannoy do ANYTHING well.
Whats the yellow lump , it looks like a burglar alarm on a house?
More like a biscuit tin cover .
A beautiful looking bike ruined by those hideous yellow things.
What are RE thinking of ?
I actually rather like them - though it seems plenty of people here don't!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Put storage bags over them ?
I like the look of that compared to the Himalayan, but may be a little under powered. I am happy with my Interceptor so far and wouldn’t want less power than that has…..even though I am getting older and wider! 👍😂
Come on RE let's have "wire spoked tubeless rims and dual sports tyres" on your range of bikes currently using "spoked tubed rims". PLEASE!
On the strength of this I,
BOUGHT ONE
First impressions? Absolutely fine except for the front suspension (too stiff for me)
I have some emulators coming which should sort it.
RE Interceptor 650 to my point of view are still the best buy compared to RE Himalayan. While between RE Meteor 350 and HONDA Highness 350. I will choose Honda. 😁
The thought occurs to me that the fit and finish are commensurate with the projected retail price. Bearing in mind the EPIC adventures undertaken on the Himalayans, it's likely that you'd get 40,000 miles more or less, out of one of these without it falling apart completely. In any case, after that sort of mileage, you could happily sell it for a £1 knowing that you had had your moneys' worth. A bike for twice the price would have lost at least half its value after 40,000 miles so you'd be in the same position financially. A perfect bike for green lanes and riding on weekend tours, with a price tag to allow you to be out 52 weeks a year. What's not to like?
Couldn't agree more!
I've only heard good things from this bike, one review unit can f*ckup everything lol
A grey ceramic coating for the entire exhaust would set this bike off aesthetically , Alaskan UA-camr KARMAkaze moto did this to his Himalayan in a video and wow what a difference
Rubbish quality welding and an exhaust pipe that's corroding out of the box aren't warning signs, they're stay away statements. It doesn't matter how cheap a bike is (unless silly), if quality control is bad or totally neglected, it ain't good value. There's rubbish bits on Triumphs that I wouldn't live with. This stuff will get worse and worse, given the appalling economic situation and the need for companies to make dosh. Hold on to your hats.
Tripper is German for gonorrhea :-D. But nice little runabout for the price, although I'd rather wait for the 40hp version next year.
Take this "Scram" up a Green Lane..... then state which bike is More "Tiresome"???!!
Seems odd that they have two engines 350 and 411 which produce about the same power, why ?
Dang, the horrible look of the 'rusty' exhaust. Maybe it looks better in the flesh. First feature I noticed, and on several UA-cam reviews.
Pathetic build quality. No thanks RE. I had hoped RE would keep up the reported quality.
Hi kids ❤️
I don’t know, if the brand wasn’t nostalgic these bikes wouldn’t sell in my opinion. To me the quality just isn’t there.
No excuse for the crappy welding nowadays, spoils an otherwise very interesting proposition. Thought RE had upped their game on stuff like this.
not sure about your 'wide angle' camera usage on the bike walkaround, seems to distort the view quite a bit. Also, stainless exhaust should discolour with 'normal' usage (unless you're anal about cleaning it)
Great honest review at least royal Enfield aren’t pretending to be something they are not great value for money 💰 to someone.. Since I purchased my Bmw r1250 gs adventure nothing else excites me in my opinion I think I have the best of everything . I enjoyed your review Andy top notch mate👍🇦🇺
Another great video TMF. I especially like the proper full-length front mudguard. Why don't more manufacturers for sensible mudguards?
As I have said on other videos I don't like those yellow RE plate things. Look cheap. Not nice.
Looks like a nice bike and would probably work well as a city commuter. Personally I'd maybe switch to tubeless tires just to make it a little more easier to live with.
For the exhaust, just take it off and paint it with a high heat paint. Problem solved.
The browning exhaust looks terrible. Needs to be blackened.
Quite a nice looking bike but not a fan of those horrible yellow Royal Enfield badges.
I like the looks of the scram 411 it’s nicely styled and hopefully at a good price point, shame about the quality of the welds, but on first impressions it seems to be a nice bike
Might have to see about making room in the stable for one
At £4,599 it's a bargain!
It would be great if all Royal Enfield motorcycles will be liquid cooled.
Good looking bike, I can't really see the appeal though, it's probably not much faster than some 125's?
At 65 im no longer a power junkie... But 24 bhp mherrrrrr.... I'd love to love it if that makes sense. Cheers Andy.
A 400 that can't do highway is just absurd in this day n age mate .
There must be a poem in there somewhere next time you meet up with Geoff and Dan on this bike???🤣
It’s a pretty good looking bike, I’m not a fan of the big yellow badge though. If it’s around £4500, it’s a good value bike, but I’ve been looking at second hand bikes around 5k, including at your friends at super bike factory, and you can get a lot more bike for that sort of money, even with low mileage. Great review and nice to be riding in the sun. 👍
Like it, would be my preference over the Himalayan but I'm waiting to see if Triumph make a 500 single. Will be worth paying a bit extra. Nice review, cheers.
Andy, I would’ve bought a royal Enfield a few years ago but it has spoke wheels on it, people don’t want spoked wheels they want cast wheels so they can use tubeless tires why doesn’t Royal infield understand that?
Bikes in Asia are designed for the owner to be able to do their own repairs and it's much easier to fix a puncture if it's not on a tubeless rim
Safer and easier with tubeless tyres. Much less chance of being stuck at the side of the road in England waiting hours for recovery.
@@ian-c.01 I don’t live in Asia, and neither does Andy.
il get back when the exhuast stops rusting out... even the chinese builds stopped that
I prefer the Himalayan look to be honest and really don’t like the speedo however I’m a big RE fan so hope it’s a success .
I’m guessing this doesn’t displace the Classic 350 from it’s perch.
Not a fan of this one. Looks like it should have Keeway on the side.....
exhaust color is intentionally that way first i also used to think that its not done well but every re bike has same paint job.
Great first ride.
As an owner, and fan, of the Himalayan, I'm quite interested in the new Scram 411.
Very similar to my Himalayan, but, I must agree with you, 'much' better looking!
I've never been a huge fan, of the 'looks', of the Himalayan, but love the bike for what I bought it for.....
Commuting, bimbling around the local back lanes, and a little light green laning.
Looking forward to more videos.
Grumps.
You have to get one Andy! If only so you can go on yer bikers scrans on yer Scram! 🤣
A great looking bike, I am sure RE will sell loads of them. Shame about the look of the welds and potential rust on the exhaust system
A magnet would help to determine if an exhaust is stainless steel... (as this one is).
Always enjoy the content on this channel. You Brits got balls to ride motorcycles on those narrow roads!
This bike & Himalayan & possible other Royal Enfield s ,first VALVE adjustment is at 300 miles then every 2500 hundred miles. That Terrible.
Really? I didn’t know that….
What’s underneath the hideous yellow boil? 😱
Some in the comments seem to be harping on about the welds….as a non rider (but soon to be one) this reminds me of those anoraks at classic car meets that harp on about the incorrect rubber widget being used so it’s not officially a ‘legitimate’ classsic lol.
I can’t speak for all non bikers, but if the weld holds (which it clearly does otherwise it would be mentioned left right and centre) then many of us non and newbie bikers won’t care. Maybe in 40yrs if I am still alive let alone riding then yup possibly but something that minute will be the least of my worries….and I would assume it would be the same for the average person/non biker who sees and hears this go by.
It’s just a measure of build quality - if you don’t care then fair enough!
How are you getting all those camera angles.
Clever 360 cam….
witch craft !

I think everyone, myself included, is enjoying the success of Royal Enfield and wish them well. I think this shows in there being so many positive comments about this bike. But I’m actually disappointed with the Scram. The Interceptor, Continental GT and Classic are all beautiful distinctive bikes that deserve all the praise they get. But in my view the Scram falls short. To me it looks dreary and cheap, with none of the charm of the other RE bikes to make up for its lack of performance. There are other much better (brand new) options at the sub-£5K price point, never mind all the used options.
Fair enough!
Wire wheels its got tubed tyres can you change them to tubeless tyres ?.
Good review. Good bike. Great price. Are you being a bit harsh on the welds? Welds are welds. And once you're on a bike and riding it in gravel and mud...does the rider care about the welds? Any way... I took one for a test ride in Oz. Put my deposit down same day. I'm not sure there's a new bike that compares with the versatility, price or quality...
And a bad bike is still better than any car (Imho)... be safe. Cheers for now...
Very true! Enjoy…
It’s a pretty machine ,even with the sloppy welding and the custom rust pipes .
I agree….
Nowadays always good to have a bit of patina, even from new.
Great review Andy. However, my opinion, I don't like that bike. I think it looks ugly, cheap and poorly done. Just not for me, my opinion only.
Fair enough!
I like this, but think I would change the colour of the 'yellow crash bungs.' I used to be a welding Inspector (years ago) and like a good looking weld! On a motorcycle it is aesthetics that are as important as the functional aspects of the welding, so RE need to understand this. On push cycles they use a putty that hardens over the welds to create a beautiful finish, but what is the weld like underneath? At least RE show their welds!!!....Their finish would not put me off!
I like the brown jacket, thank you!
Interesting to hear - thanks!
" In the 80's when I was a kid " I was in my 30's .................
At 01.15 there is a UFO behind you coming in for attack. What is it?
Probably a red kite….
Any idea if Hitchcock makes performance upgrades for this motor? Nice looking ride, but I don't care for those plastic gadgets on the sides of the tank. Do they serve any useful purpose, or merely decorative?
No idea
I don't like the bright yellow sections either side of the tank, and that exhaust is terrible. Not all stainless steel is corrosion resistant like Grade 316, which when polished is as good as chrome. They've obviously used a low grade - low Cr content stainless, which will gradually discolour. The emery cloth finish is horrible. Such a shame, but I guess they are building it down to a price. On a more optimistic note, it sounds as though it's a nice bike to ride.
Yes it is…
Sunnies and dark visor? Can you see where your going?🤣
I have to disagree about the Yellow Abortions, either side of the front of the tank.
To me, they look like second-hand domestic house alarm boxes.
No idea if they have an actual function, but they were a very bad aesthetic design choice!
I like em!
Excellent video I pick my scram 411 up tomorrow Friday 17th I’ve gone for the granite and red awesome bike for £4599 the dealership where I’m buying mine the red and white £100 more the greeny blue £4299 same as the yellow on that Drayton Croft Motorcyles Hinckley Kawasaki dealership cannot wait enjoy your trip in Europe had my bmw F850 GS adventure stolen waiting on the insurance 🙏🙏👍
Congratulations on the new bike!
@@TheMissendenFlyer thank you 🙏 👍👍
Hummm, not sure about the Scram. I think it’s a no from me.
Looks like a prime candidate for loads of mods and a fun to ride as well
Regrettably RE seems to use lesser quality metal for frames.
Good thing I didn't wait for this to arrive on these shores (and purchased a naughty VFR 800 instead for what'll prolly amount to 1000 less).
Absolutely love the styling, but that finish on the can is appalling ;/ Funny thing is the promo shot you spliced in seems to show the exact same cross hatch marking, and reddish hue, so I guess it's a feature? Honestly looks like the chap they hired to clean up the welds misunderstood which part he had to use the angle grinder on ;3
looks pretty sweet, i will check it out once its available
I don't know but would think the exhaust would be stainless steel so shouldn't rust. The discolouration could be just to heat.
Definitely a rust spot on it!
Yes agree that it looked like rusty water had dripped on it from somewhere but I was referring to the general discoloration. Time will tell.
There are many different grades of Stainless Steel, the lower quality stuff does rust so technically shouldn't be called 'Stainless'.
It's also possible that the finish is contaminated due to bad practice and using grinding belts that have been previously used for regular steel, this will transfer enough dust to the Stainless to create rust and it would look very similar to what you can see there.
On the downpipe there is an enlarged section, possibly for a Cat Converter but on the welds above and below there is deep rust, that is not from contamination, that is low quality stainless and will develop holes over time !
I am waiting in Lecthworth honda and I have watched the CRF and the Honda 750 review by you. LoL.
Cool!
Great video thanks Andy, bike does look fantastic and as an ex Himalayan owner I'd be very interested to have a test ride on one. The saddle looks a lot more comfortable than the Himi, and seat height is lower which for me is better plus the bike is lighter in weight, always a bonus! Styling is spot on for the model and in my view the engine is a peach for a long stroke single thumper. The exhaust looks likes it's a carry over from the Himi in which case it won't rust as it's made from Stainless Steel (all be it not the best quality) but with a bit of work they do polish up nicely. For the projected cost it looks like another winner for RE. Very nice.👍😊
Don't no were and why people say this is a good looking bike i no beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But going back to the 80s , these bikes remind me of the old cz motorcycles not good to look at .built to a budget. But on a plus side cheap and practical.
Great value at £4,600!
Are those side pods basically covering up where the crash bars are fitted on the Himalayan?
Possibly.....
Thanks for introducing that to us. They’ve done very similar changes to what I fancied doing on a standard himi namely ditch the ugly high lever beak/additional fender and pull the headlight back closer to the bars. Cheers
Good to have you along as ever!
So you don't ind the Nonesense Plastic on This bike!
But you hated it on another of their Bikes?
Correct - depends how it's done of course, I like it on the Scram.....
I wonder if it feels a bit more peppy because it weighs 10-15kg less than Himalayan? Shame about the lack of tacho.
