I re-read it. Darkseid comes to Earth in this story because he's looking for Grail. He says in this very story he's looking for his daughter. They planted the seeds for Darkseid War even way back then.
the seeds for Trinity war which lead to forever evil leading to darkseids war, was sewn at the end of flashpoint with the hooded girl while flash is heading back in time or something it's been a while, but yea the seeds go waaaaay back
thats why Geoff johns was a little pissed. While most not all authors fucked up the characters in new 52, good geoff johns was planning to do the epic darkseid war. You could tell it, the ending seemed a little rushed even though it was awesome because Geoff had to do rebirth, but thats all for the better now.
Baba! *Was for the better*
@@accidentalmadness1708 and they've been messing with shit even more now
I'd replace Cyborg with Martian Manhunter, because they already have Batman for tech stuff and having a telepath on the team is very helpful
+rbraunbeck96 so Grant Morrison's Justice League? hahaha
+Live To Rock no jackass, the original team
Put Cyborg back on the Titans, switch Hal for someone interesting like John Stewart or Kyle Rayner, let Martian Manhunter back, and let the roster go beyond 7...
I think it would be interesting if the team lost Superman or Batman, or at least if they became part time members... and maybe John Stewart joins so Hal could worry more with the Corp. Let Wonder Woman be the leader(so she'll have a more interesting role in continuity), and add some different members.
that and Superman can do tech, green lantern can make constructs, the flash if you have a telepath put the plans in his head so he can construct it super fast. Cyborg is superfluous on the team.
Sal, 2014: "Oh I'm sure there will be another crisis!"
Tom King, Circa 2018: "Hey Dan, wanna hear my new idea for a story?"
Sal 2014: “Oh I’m sure there will be another Crisis!”
Joshua Williamson 2022: “I’m gonna make the Crisis of all Crisis’s!”
8:02 Apokolips: Come for the hot, stay for the rocks.
I love watching older back issues and seeing what books are for sale at the time haha
oh lord, Ethan's face when Sal mentions the Soul Gem and the Mind Gem is priceless. "Mind and Soul are...what?!"
"What's the economic process like in Apokalips?" Yeah, questions like that is why I subscribed.
Darksieds "Guys" are called Parademons
superfly332 THANK you. On the tip of my tongue.
Batman never attacks Superman, he runs into green lantern(never actually fights him), ends up getting saved by him. They get hold of a boom tube and conclude that the threat is alien in nature. It is only then they decide to confront Superman!!!!!!!! . Hey, but your back issue series is pretty awesome and keep up the awesome job you guys are doing.
Yeah, I dont remember Batman attacking first, I remember Hal going into some room and getting blasted out, then Superman emerging and asking Bats, "what can you do?" before attacking him. I might be remembering the animated movie based on this though.
Nah they totally fight, fists are thrown and everything, the flash even jumps in
This is one of the better New 52 books to me. This and Forever Evil I loved. Also Batman Zero Year and Aquaman was amazing.
Well what I always thought, about Batman's first fight with Superman was that he was just testing him. Unlike Green Lantern he had probably heard about Superman before, so he wanted to see if he lived up to the hype (so he could then start doing contingencies or whatever). Also, Superman doesn't start the attack Green Lantern attacks him first and since he came with Batman, Superman probably just assumed that they were both behind this. Good job by the way guys, really enjoyed this. (Even thought I'm a DC guy)
Nice analysis. Thanks for watching!
The Anti-Life Equation, as far as i know, is just an equation that allows the user to enslave whoever they want, by proving that life is meaningless or some stuff. I believe you see the effects during the Rock of Ages story line in JLA. Of course, there are a lot of interpretations.of what it is, so it changes from writer to writer. Also, still loving the show.
Yeah, the current DC Wiki says the Anti-Life equation basically means it's able to remove free will, apparently. I'm sure they can change that whenever they want (and have, before).
TVLittleHouse Yeah, also i have to ask, have you read Earth 2? I think it makes the Apokolips invasion a little bit more interesting when you learn that this has been happening on every earth in the multiverse. It doesnt exactly justify this book being bland though.
TerminalNoob As a general rule I tend to stay away from the stuff that doesn't take place in the prime universe, but I've heard a lot of buzz about it. I'd be willing to give it a look, though.
TVLittleHouse Understandable, it is rather good though, and it seems like it will be important soon considering an event will center around it. Although, like most events recently, it may just go on too long, and have way too many tie-ins.
I always assumed the source wall "walled-in" the Universe. kinda like the edge of reality
That's a good theory. I like that.
I thought it was fairly clear that Batman knew that Clark wasn't going to kill him. However Bruce was clearly studying Superman and was using the fight to test Superman to get a gauge on his strengths and potential weaknesses.
I see someone else already brought this up ... carry on.
Actually Anti-Life Equation was somewhat better explained in Final Crisis.
Gotta have a discussion about Martian Manhunter in a future episode. My absolute favorite DC character.
We'll find a way.
Highly recommend Ostrander's run! It defines the modern take in every way, establishes a unique Martian society and mythos, etc.
I loved Jim Lees art in this! HATE that Superman redesign though. . .
I think in the original incarnation of Darkseid he was as much a god as an alien, so you're meant to see Apocalypse existing in space as much as the existing in the ether. Like I don't think you could've (at least originally) ever gotten there with a space ship. Darkseid is less an alien invader and more the god of evil on earth and Apocalypse is a dump because its basically hell. It makes less sense when you treat it like a real physical place.
Watching this now, I'm not gonna lie. When they revealed that the Anti-Monitor, who Darkseid is battling, is essentially the living embodiment of the Anti-Life Equation, I was like _HUWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!_
I loved Cyborg's origin and introduction.
16:04 Pretty much the DC's Cinematic Justice League...
I hope you guys didn't record this too soon after that marathon of a live-stream (which, again, was AWESOME), because if you did then I'm convinced you guys are sadists, lol. In all seriousness though, great work guys. Just real quickly wanted to say (as I haven't myself noticed if anyone else has noted on it) but Sal, your editing work is top-notch. All your cuts and zoom-ins make each vid THAT much more enjoyable to watch.
Also, as more of a Marvel reader (the only DC thing I keep up with is Batman) would you say Darkseid is the equivalent to Thanos of the DC Universe? They seem to have very similar motivations. Thanks again guys!
Oh hell no! We did this right before our vacation, so we were still totally bright-eyed and ready to go. I think Thanos is definitely the Darkseid of the MU, but I think they have enough personality for them to be fun in their own ways. But yeah, they've got very similar motivations. And dude, thank you for the kind editing praise. It's a bear of a job (cutting like, five shows right now?) but I'm trying not to slack off and make it fun for you guys to watch.
Cyborg for Martian Manhunter. Martian Manhunter is an amazing character. I'm actually a big fan of alot of The New 52 comics but their changes to MM make me sad.
I love Vic too (his current solo series by David Walker and Ivan Reis is great, btw), but he seems better suited for the Titans. Maybe after Titans Hunt he'll be a liason between the JLA and the Titans.
Didnt final crisis have darkseid finding the anti life equation, and he had it chanting in those helmets?
I would take our Cyborg because in the end I'm sorry but he's pretty useless. Sure he can interface with mother boxes but why do that when Batman would easily be able to crack the code of the box and open it. Instead I would put in Martian Manhunter. He's a psychic, he's a shapeshifter, and he can turn invisible. Plus he can fly, shoot lasers and all that jazz.
Reasons why I take him out the guy has too much power, him alone is capable of defeating the jla that makes him too op
Batfreeze that's exactly what I said. why replace Martian manhunter with cyborg? hell, why replace martian manhunter at all?
Finally I've been waiting for this since you did death in the family :)
Great videos! Aquaman psychically pushes the fish to do what he wants, basically mind control.
These guys are funny.
"Hey how come this Earth isn't conquered yet?
superfly332 Thanks, Superfly!
Ironic that he said writers would get lazy in 5 years and give Darkseid the antilife equation. Literally 5 years later, the Anti-monitor is revealed to be the antilife equation and kills Darkseid.
I'd definitely take out Cyborg and exchange him with Martian Manhunter.
Can you go over the story where Tony Stark was a teenager for some reason?
What an awesome idea!
I see Ben's Legend of Zelda shirt.
Good eye!
Holy crap you guys sound different!
Another great episode as always!
What happens if Darkseid finds the Anti-Life Equation, but it turns out that all this time he's been dyslexic? Would it just do something really weird instead of killing everyone?
The Anti -Life Equation is used in the begining of Final Crisis.
black guy ? john stewart then replace cyborg with MM
My Justice League team would have Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan, (GL) Barry Allen, (Flash) Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Bloodwynd, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Ray Palmer, (Atom) and Plastic Man.
Though I'm sure you've had about 40 people tell you already, I can't help myself:
Aquaman doesn't talk to fish, it's more like he uses a sonar to possess them.
could you guys do a review on X-Men while they was living in the Australian Outback . also their run ins with the Reavers and the Brood . ( in an 3 issue story arc titled Earthfall ) from 1988
I don't remember that one!
Sal, I was wondering how do you preserve your trade issues?
Also, Aquaman mentally controls Marine Life, he doesn't talk. He's basically forcing these animals into doing what he needs them to do.
I prefer Cyborg on the Teen Titans 😕
you guys should do back issues on the new 52 wonder woman
He doesn’t talk to then he sends like weird shit transmissions to fishes brains that tells them to do stuff for him. Let’s hope aqua man don’t get too kinky with those fish though.
The reason that JL "sucked so much" was that they removed Martian Manhunter. His human alter ego is black, too, by the way, if DC editorial cares that much about diversity. MMH is really just an underrated green superman who's weakness is something as common as fire, as opposed to Superman's weakness of magic space rocks.
I forget which comic but Aquaman shows up in a diner and these guys ask him a bunch of questions like "What's it like being the lamest hero of the league?" and "Do you really talk to fish" and he says "No I don't talk to then fishes brains are too simple to hold a conversation I just command them psychicly, but dolphins are another story" haha so he doesn't talk to them in the way that they hold conversations and hangout cause he eats fish and seafood. All he does is give them commands like a dog whisperer but he also can comman any sea life form including the kraken
Nice you make it super interesting
So this is the comic book version of the movie Justice League: War?
Mandy's Mashups yes justice league war is adapted from this its vol 1 of the n52 justice league also the movie throne of atlantis is adapted from vol 3
Yep
I love comic pop so much
that red thing on the table looks like the makeshift ashtray we had in rehab made from an old Folgers container
when you realize martain manhunter dropped off the radar after his solo series before rebirth
Where...where did that Wonder Woman figure suddenly come from?! D:
Editing, my friend ;)
Cyborg is great
The first villai. Should have been either Orm invading and then slowly build up the Injustice League
I didn’t think this story was dumb. Thought it was fun and entertaining, but I go back to some of these old episodes and it’s just hilarious to me when people laugh at comic book logic as if it’s supposed to reflect real life. You’re already suspending your disbelief that Superheroes exist and fly around but some things are just off the table… lol, but then people love Star Wars……I love this show!
Don't worry DC learned about the importance of story and everything after the rise and fall of Ima....Jim Lee art you say?
Take out Wonder Women and put in Katana, because Katana should get a descent writer who isn't Ann Nocenti.
I wanted to like Katana #1 when it came out so bad!
Its not true saying thanos is a Darkseid rip off...Hes a lot more lot metatron with muscles than Darkseid
I'd take out Batman, because I've never liked that he existed in the same universe as any of the other DC heroes. The Bat-family is (conceptually, if not always in practice) so wonderfully self-contained and unlike the more fantastical elements of the other members that Batman just never seems like he should be there (unless he's just coordinating everyone else, Oracle-style). And I would replace him with Jubilee, of course. Because she is super-rad and the perfect gateway into any story. I realize that DC would have to buy her from Marvel for this to work, but, let's face it, it's not like they're doing anything with her anyway. (And, seriously, every time I see that yellow coat on a book, I immediately want to read it. It's uncanny.)
Interesting! I don't think I've ever imagined Jubilee anywhere but on an X-Team! "Uncanny..." I see what you did there.
Yeah, I think batman fits in marvel more
Awww man... So close to reviewing, Siege. Next time, next time
We'll get there ;)
I like this superman due to it being much like golden age rough and tumble farm boy Clark Kent
Do the infinity storyline you know the one from back in August.
It's on the list! Thanks!
You can't tease Siege and World War Hulk, that's just cruel. And you're making me say "super-rad" in real life. This is also cruel. Original TMNT and Power Rangers references made up for it all, another great episode peeps.
As for the Justice League, if I can't just switch them all for their pre-Nu52 counterparts then lose surly Aquaman, the team will be sufficiently angsty without him. And chuck in aaaanyone else. Zatanna, Red Tornado, Plastic Man, The Question, anyone whose shtick isn't being in a foul mood.
Haha! We'll get to 'em, I promise.
Yeah, those Leaguers are worse than the Breakfast Club.
Take out Aquaman and replace him with Martian Manhunter because J'onn deserves to be in the League way more than the FishTalk
#LHJLA
aquaman is cool
"The fish talk"
Aquaman Doesn't Talk To Fish You Idiot 😂😂
+John Delorenzo Martian Manhunter is still more versatile than Aquaman
Is there any differences between the hard cover and paperback versions of Justice League? Like is there more content in the hard cover? I'm looking to buy this comic and not sure which one to get
Identical
Justice League Should Be.
1- Wonder-Woman.
2- Superman.
3- Blue Beetle.
4- Batman.
5- Power Ring.
6- Shazam.
7- Green Lantern.
8- The Flash.
9- Aquaman.
10- Booster Gold 🥇.
Diversity? Ok DC you did it before!
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
The Flash (Barry)
GL (John)
Hawkgirl
Aquaman
1 Kryptonian, 2 White Humans, 1 Amazon, 1 African American Human, 1 Egyptian and 1 Atlantean
The justice league should be 5 members- superman, batman, Wonderwoman, flash and green lantern. That way you can focus more on character development.
Didn't that Wonder Woman/ ice cream thing literally happen in the movie?
the source wall blocks access to an omnipitent force called the source and it's located at the end of the universe
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh paperbacks im going to rip my eyes out
Lol why's that?
speaking of a justice league reboot...how come u guys haven't done the 80's JLI run by keith giffen and kevin maguire...??? c'mon...it's probably the most iconic run other than the satellite years.
Cyborg would be out and Static Shock would be in because Static is a way more interesting character than Cyborg
what happened to martian man Hunter?
Is seige the story you had mentioned in the live podcast when i asked about the sentry?
It's certainly the last Sentry story that I remember... ;)
TVLittleHouse See this is why i love this channel. If i have a question, that shit gets answered. Appreciate it homie, Liked the episode btw
dumb bitchs Huge thanks!
Aquaman does communicate to fish but their brains are so undeveloped that they cannot carry on a conversation. Basically he talks to fish as much as someone talks to their dog
so is the anti-life equation a being that ends all life?
Actually, in the comics, the Anti-Life equation basically takes over people's free-will, apparently.
that seems pretty boring.
sithapprentic03 Don't worry-- it is.
+ComicPOP! it's actually more like a mathematic "proof" that life and free will are meaningless and it gives such a certainty that your free will dies, I think the concept of there actually being such a thing is kind of cool
Also sorry to respond to something so old, I'm new here, loving the chanel tough
the cosmic odyssey by Jim Starlin and Mike Mignola expands on the anti-life equation a bit. now back to my Marvel LOL
The new blue beetle with the alien suit is awesome., the original guy is just some dude with guns
There is such thing as a shape that is infinite. The Source Wall must be the only other shape like that besides the Universe (multiverse)?
#LHJLA I would take out Cyborg and replace him with Martian Manhunter and pretend that his fight with the Justice League never happened because that was stupid
The source wall boarders the entire universe
Whatever happened to the Comic Book shop?
A fun ride, simple story
can you do a justice league book again
Why do you do this to me?!?!?!?!?!? I feel like that one comment was targeted, you know what I'm talking about.
... =)
my reaction when you mentioned WWH
25.media.tumblr.com/977eaad30d77ab9716e122a75a10bb3b/tumblr_mmqrsr9k551qgbp1jo1_500.gif
He does not tho I love you guys but I have to tell you that the text Evan states that he does not talk to fish
i would take out cyborg and put in vibe............. im not even kidding vibe IS AMAZING
no
ummmmmmm yes
gtfo
thank you.
It really came across Ultimates vol. 1 to me with Darkseid comes across as the Hulk and and the league being assholes
I read it it was them fighting each other in the bat man was the beste
#LHJLA Green Lantern removed cause he's lame and always will be. Add in Zatanna because she's cool and adds more diversity. Plus there's no real magic users on the Justice League.
Parademons are indigenous to Apokolips
Take of cyborg and put in Martian Manhunter
Sal, what are the names of the comics you wrote??
We've got "Garth Kirby and the Cookbook of the Gods," "SMBFZ," "Horsemen: The Four Jackasses of the Apocalypse," and currently "Flight of the Binturong," which is a space adventure webcomic!
this was the story of one of the dc movies or tv shows wasn't it? I swear if have watched this on tv. yep I have Justice League: War.
Do you live in new Jersey if you do that's so cool cause I live in NJ
We do live in New Jersey.
#LHJLA I would take out Cyborg and replace him with Hawkgirl because it would balance the women and i never really care for cyborg.
Why is the New 52 called New 52?
DC likes the number. They had a weekly series called 52 which ran for a year, and when they relaunched their major titles they released 52 new titles. It's just a nickname for the current universe continuity.
TVLittleHouse oh, OK that is kind of clever. 52 titles, like 31 flavors. Thank you for clearing that up. I found Sal on the weekly pull, great addition to that team. You all rock in stereo.
lol They're the Baskin Robbins of comics
...more then half way into the video and you haven't even started.
***** Well, those other two don't read comics so he gotta explain everything... I know, it gets annoying most o the time.
Ambi Dextrose Fair enough :)
I'd replace Aquaman with Shazam.
That is what happened in Justice League: War and Aquaman did not appear in the Justice League until Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, which was an adaptation of New 52 Justice League volume 3.
