My favorite part of Back Issues is every time Ethan or Ben are like "don't tell me, the Flash runs SO FAST he [does nonsensical thing]?" And Sal responds with some variation of "...basically". Happens at 2:43 in this one, in case you're wondering.
For those who are curious heres the Anti-life equation written out: loneliness + alienation + fear + despair + self-worth ÷ mockery ÷ condemnation ÷ misunderstanding × guilt × shame × failure × judgment n=y where y=hope and n=folly, love=lies, life=death, self=dark side
So I actually wish the new 52 had started here rather than with flashpoint. Imagine if when Superman wished for a happy ending he just gets envelopes with white. It cuts to Batman's body and Nightwing and they get eneloped in white. It cuts to wally and Barry still running then they get enveloped in white. There's some sort of narration implying a new ending and a new begining. "A new 52 Earth's" with a shot of the n52 justice league fighting darkseid obviously implying that this time they win. I love the flash but I think that'd be way cooler and would make more sense.
In many ways, Final Crisis sets off Flashpoint. It is a direct response to Barry coming back, knowing how long it has been since he died, and missing his dead mother. It shows everything that DC explores.
and so, Sal was mauled to death by a rabid Tiffany, who replaced him on the show. Back Issues only did indie books from that day forward and ironically grew more popular until the Were-Ghost of Sal (half ghost half werewolf) killed the cast in revenge and they started a new show called Grave Issues in the Underworld
Just listened to this at work, and laughed aloud at my desk toward the end. Ethan capturing the message of the story "don't be a dick about it" , and Ben describing Grant Morrison's bad trip; golden man.
Final Crisis reads more like mythological allogory. I understand why Ben thinks it sounds dumb but when you read it, you kind of get in tune with the frequency.
Grant used the superheroes as gods in this story (or supergods). the flash outrunning death, batman wounding the idea of evil, superman fighting mandrakk (a fictional character fighting the editor or the weaver of the story) etc. It is just grant stating that superheroes are the last ideas that does not need to be grimdark or corrupt to be great.
+ViolentVegan I get that it's supposed to be allegory but my problem with this story is that it's a bit on the nose. Subtlety is dead, and superman killed it with a wish-granting machine.
I know its dopey but I loved that bit :-) I know GM is interested in creating your own reality through visualization etc. and have always read it as being about creating your own reality. I also like the idea of superman being the ultimate dream of optimism and the achievement of the seemingly impossible. I always imagine the monitors being like fanboys/girls who demand stories be a certain way and spit out their dummies when they are not... and then ultimately suck the life and soul out of the story they love as publishers respond with pure fan service. Just like what just happened with the Star Wars franchise.
I was in the middle of an online game with my roommate when I quit the game, shut down the server, and left the room because I saw this was uploaded. I've been waiting for this one for FOREVER.
Back Issues and ComicPop! as a whole has just been a huge part of my life for I think over a year. I've been with you guys since Avengers Disassembled and I've been watching ever since and I don't intend to stop now. I'm so proud of the changes and the growths the channel has made and I would like to congratulate you all for this tremendous achievement.
This show completely sells me on great stories I knew about or didn't as well as stories that totally suck for great or terrible reasons. Thank you guys for your great work and for keeping this world of comics thriving!!!
I understand the frustration surrounding this story. I read it out of continuity and wanted to throw myself out of a window, but I kept on because it DOES say something very transcendent. Heavy handed metaphors aside, the whole fighting against darkness and meaninglessness thing is pretty cool.
I'm really happy to say I'm a big fan of back issues, the fact that you're all 100 episodes in and still as awesome and funny as you were at the beginning, if not more so, is fantastic! I'm really looking forward to the future! (Especially that Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom book, I didn't realize that was thing, I must knowww!!)
congrats on 100 episodes. A few years ago I got back into comics by collecting trades and omnibus editions of 80's/90'S stuff from my childhood. I began reading more recent stuff like the new avengers omnibus, civil war, planet hulk, house of m etc. because of back issues. keep up the good work guys
1:00:09 lol BEST MOMENT IN THIS VIDEO!!! lol PLUS the comment: "Money is still green, bitch... the real joke is you're still paid half of what you're actually worth." -Sal hahaha Quote worth of 100th Back Issues Episode, much success ComicPOP and to 100 more!!!
Congrats on 100 episodes y'all. This channel got me back into reading comics so salute to you guys. I had been wanting to get back into it but like a lot of people I didn't know where to start and your channel made it so I could just jump right in. Here's to 100 more
Congrats on 100 episodes to the whole +ComicPop team! I've been watching since around episode 10 and constantly watch your shows while doing stuff around the house, working, or just lounging. My wife asks why I keep watching old shows from "Those three guys who just sit on a couch and talk about comic books." You guys/gal are the best. That's why. Keep doing what you're doing. We love it.
God damn God damn, I cant believe I've been watch since the early teens. Congratulations guys for reaching your 100th. You're just getting better and better, and thank you, thank you, thank you for getting me into comics! Honestly one of the best gifts I've ever received, it's really changed my life for the better!
Sal really knows his stuff. That was a pretty good summation of Final Crisis. Although I love the series, some of his criticism was valid. It kinda felt like he got Ethan interested in reading it. I will say, though, his claim that Alan Moore admits he just wrote stuff for money and not caring about it is not true. Moore does nothing but complain about comic book adaptations of his works, to the point where he asked his credits to be removed from movie and series adaptations. Anyway, interesting video there.
Congrats on 100 episodes guys! I'm a fairly new subscriber but have been watching your videos for a while so, I totally fanboyed out when I saw all 4 of you guys on the couch! Here's to 100 more!!! :)
Great job in getting to a 100 episodes. Really good to see your show evolve and become better as times passes, especially with the weekly pulls, makes the channel more legit. Keep up the great work!!!
4 years and 10 months and you guys still haven't done "The return of Bruce Wayne" I absolutelylove Morrison's Batman run even with all the ridiculouseness 😂 and still waiting for you guys to do that book ❤️ PS *I saw this episode like 6 or 7 times since it was uploaded*
When is that Grant Morrison omnibus coming? I wanted to read about Dick Grayson as Batman, now I have to buy a whole bunch of tradepaperback for it to make sense!
The Miracle Machine actually goes way back in Legion history. It was created by the Controllers- an offshoot of the Guardians of the Universe- and was used by Brainiac Five to create Omega when Brainy had his mental breakdown.
From Kitchen to Krypton, this is definitely my favorite show on UA-cam. Fun, witty, and honest reactions you bring the conversation with friends I always wanted about comics to us every week.
Thanks for making this! I read Final Crisis a few months ago and I absolutely hated it so much. Some of my friends haven't read it yet and I always say, "DON'T. Just watch this video *insert link to this video*". It's awesome how much I love your channel and I can tell how much fun you guys are having. I'm a bit late to this one but I still loved it. So before I read Final Crisis again I'm gonna go jam a wooden stake through its vampiric insides.
Congrats on 100 episodes! I the channel and started watching Back Issues around the fifth episode (pretty sure) and it's been so great to be able to look forward to it every week. Its been awesome to watch the channel grow and evolve and I can't wait to see where it goes from here :) P.S. Uncanny X-Force on Back Issues=fuckin yes! Also maybe Ultimate Spiderman?
I have read this whatever the hell it was, like 4 times and this episode was the best explanation of what the heck Gra not Morrison was trying to do an I’m like 46 and have been a comic geek since I was 19
The "death" is not just running through Darkseid and saying "ok, let me kill him, why not :P", it is because Batman mortally wound Darkseid, who is dying; and those dying creatures would be dead soon or later when "death" catches them.
Love the show! You guys are so cool. Where can I read about Alan Moore's opinions of Grant Morrison? It seems strange that these two creators aren't on the same page, when they besides writing super cool and awesome comic stories, are also "shamans" and dabblers of the occult/psychedelia in real life...which they often pour into their work. Also, they both have meta-comments on the medium of comics, superheroes and on the transcendance of stories and storytelling in general. So it seems to me like they would agree to more points than disgree. Also, I don't see any contradiction between Grant Morrison's love of continuity and back issues...while trying to maintain artistic control and integrity. I don't neccessary see that his efforts to control his own stories will influence other creators efforts to tell stories. Cause as we always say: nobody ever stays dead in comics. Meaning: no matter what you do or undo in any given storyline...someone can always come along later on and retcon the shit out of whatever they need to make their particular story or vision work as they want it to. Only snowflakes and crybabies are like: that's not MY Batman/Superman/Spiderman or whoever. Us older comic-book readers should be used to this retelling and ongoing changing of continuity and "canon". You might have certain favorite runs and creators (authors/artists), but it's all good. It's all there. And you can always pick up that comicbook you love and get that feeling you liked so much when reading it. Regardless of whatever's happened since for that character or in that book. I think that's what Grant Morrison is getting at. But I could be wrong! ;)
Alan Moore is interested in superheroes, Grant Morrison *loves* superheroes. I think that's the important distinction. Moore thinks Morrison's love for canon and fanboying for his personal favourite characters and creators is cringe.
Congrats on 100 episodes i'm not sad to say I think I've watched most of them at least 4 times, great stuff to have on when i'm doing school work. Read final crisis months ago and had no clue what the frig happened, mainly all the fights and Black Lightning's sudden importance. I got it cause it said Darkseid and I"m like he's cool. Thank you for all the fun, and awesome ending
I read Final Crisis years ago, but now it makes more sense after watching this episode and I want to buy it. Keep on the good work and PLEASE do some New X Men from Morrison
+ComicPOP This was really one of the best episodes. You guys are awesome and bring joy to parts of comic culture I only had faint interest. Your all great and I appreciate all the work you've done making Back Issues. thank you guys.
Back issues is a show I found just in the last two months and I can say that I love the whole cast and the premise of the show. I look forward to a thousand more shows!
Woah, no beard on Ben. Kinda weird seeing him without it. Not bad, just different. Great episode guys! Congratulations on the 100th, been a watcher since like 10th back issues and you guys are the reason I got into comics.
WOOOO! Congrats on number 100. You guys really helped me get into comics when i first started watching and now I have humble collection of trades and issues. Cant wait for next week.
Congratulations on 100, Been following for about a year and a half, love how the show (and the channel) have evolved. Keep up the great work, know that we, the population, look forward to what's next............even though Daredevil can't.......
Watchmen next? Anyways I've been watching Back Issues since about September, when I came upon your Old Man Logan episode cause I was looking for things related to Old Man Logan. And the rest is history. All those jokes about Alan Moore and Frank Miller actually got me to look into them and I found Watchmen and DKR (Think I tweeted to you about that on Christmas). The thing that's kept me coming back for 4 months is something that no other comic channel I've found has. You don't just explain the story and end there. You poke fun at the book and make it a lot more understandable. So thanks for that. You guys are great, here's to 100 more!
Does that mean that the Crisis-esque books are next (Zero Hour, 52, Convergence)? Anyway, big ole congrats on 100 episodes. Hopefully you make it for 1,000 more.
Congrats on the 100! You guys rule. It was saga for me I stopped the episode on the wills issue bought vol 1 then 2-4 then remembered I didn't finish the episode. Thanks for the content and all the best.
Loved the episode, guys! However, I think that if the final shot had been the one of Tiffany jumping at Sal it would have been a really sweet moment on Back Issues! Keep up the good work and maybe try some Manapul's Flash!
Best comicbook show on youtube! Every time I see a new episode I try to read the respective book if I didn't read it and I have to say, thank you for opening my eyes to some awesome stories (I love Irredeemable Ant-Man!)... and some pure crap (like that Jubilee book). The show is genius because if you have read the book and you have extensive knowledge about the history of the characters you can identify with Sal and if you have no idea what's happening (like I do on anything not-animated, Dc property) you can identify with Ben and Ethan. Is nice to hear honest reactions and educated opinions on things you like. Actually Final Crisis is one of the first comics I have read. I was a lot younger and outside of Tv Justice League I had no idea about anything Dc. I didn't realize that the monitors are editors and all the meta-commentary. Awesome show! Awesome editing! Love the ending!
+ComicPOP As always I love what you guys do & Im genuinely proud that you guys are on episode 100 of THE signature COMIC POP show! You deserve all the respect & success you have & will achieve in the future! Congrats! BTW Command-D & Komandi are not just clever rhyming allusions to one another, Command-D was the organization/army base that survived the end of the world and over hundreds of years survived to become the birth place and home of the post apocalyptic jungle hero Kamandi, hence what his mangled spelling and pronunciation interpreted as his name. And of course both were created by the legend Jack Kirby! Just wanted to add that to make myself proud about knowing something that +ComicPop Sal the Legendary Omnibus of Comic Knowledge (or the LOCK?!? Lol) didn't know or remember! Jk Actually I owe a majority of my new found comic knowledge and taste from watching all of you guys, so I consider myself a proud student! Keep up the great work, I cant wait for the next 100 episodes!!
I burst out laughing at work when Sal was making fun of DC editorial.. "Oh Cool!! Vampires!!" Lol.. Had a few ppl Look at me weird.. Good job guys (first time commenting on UA-cam) congrats on your big episode
"Fuck you for reading this book to us and telling us. This is bullshit!" Great quote, instant like. Congrats on the century mark with Back Issues. All the best to the channel!
You can pick up a copy of the mega-event FINAL CRISIS here: amzn.to/1OAmb8Q
More like, convoluted-event.
Why would I pick up such a terribly written story?
My favorite part of Back Issues is every time Ethan or Ben are like "don't tell me, the Flash runs SO FAST he [does nonsensical thing]?" And Sal responds with some variation of "...basically".
Happens at 2:43 in this one, in case you're wondering.
Sal: "We're getting to the end"
Looks at video length. Not even half way through.

Self=darkseid is awesome
Oh no......welp now I'm a slave to Darkseid
😂😂😂😂
Wouldn’t it make sense to divide or subtract by good things, since they detract from the total amount of misery?
ForceWave 1139 DARKSEID IS.
1:00:18 - 1:00:30 will forever live in my mind.
Ben's funniest moment.
My god! That was classic!!!! And probably very apt as to what Grant Morrison was seeing
@@comicpop until he quoted the 8 Mile song
Classic Ben moment.
Still one of the funniest things I've ever heard lol
Came back for this: 1:00:00 - 1:00:30
Without a doubt the funniest thing Ben has ever said on back issues!
So I actually wish the new 52 had started here rather than with flashpoint. Imagine if when Superman wished for a happy ending he just gets envelopes with white. I like this idea
If this idea happened, then jeff johns doesn't get to make the superior blackest night event that comes in next.
Flashpoint could also still happen but just be what it was originally gonna be. Which is just a neat flash story that doesn’t reboot anything
@@skyyswaggstudios2934 flashpoint is only memorable becuase of what happens next
and so, Sal was mauled to death by a rabid Tiffany, who replaced him on the show.
Back Issues only did indie books from that day forward and ironically grew more popular until the Were-Ghost of Sal (half ghost half werewolf) killed the cast in revenge and they started a new show called Grave Issues in the Underworld
+Austin Cole That is possibly the most creative reply I've ever seen to a ComicPOP vid.
Austin Cole also Sal slaps Ben's ass
Ah yes. Final Crisis. The third to last crisis.
Can't believe we're only about a month away from 2 whole years of *Back Issues*.
Zero Hour was called Zero Hour: A Crisis in Time.
That moment when Sal says "We're getting to the end" and the video is only half way finished.
Just listened to this at work, and laughed aloud at my desk toward the end. Ethan capturing the message of the story "don't be a dick about it" , and Ben describing Grant Morrison's bad trip; golden man.
"You don't wanna be blowin yourself" - Sal
Yes. We finally made it. Congrats to Sal, Ben, Ethan and Tiffany for making it this far. You guys are my favourite UA-cam Channel.
Darkseid trapping the bat cuz he’s already figured it out has to be one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a while😅
Ben doing that Grant Morrison on peyote impression at the end killed me. Spot on metaphor for his work.
+moustapha abani Yes. I think a lot of the story is about overcomming depression as well. Particularly the offworld Superman adventure in the middle.
@@ryebreadreturn1 It's comic books man, subtlety died the moment an alien from Krypton smashed a car on Earth.
I was in the middle of an online game with my roommate when I quit the game, shut down the server, and left the room because I saw this was uploaded. I've been waiting for this one for FOREVER.
Poor Ben has had too much of 'because comics' he just says no every other moment! I love this!
Back Issues and ComicPop! as a whole has just been a huge part of my life for I think over a year. He says "We're getting to the end" 30 minutes in to an hour long special. Damn.
You know what. I can't say shit. I watched all of it in its entirety.
I understand the frustration surrounding this story. I read it out of continuity and wanted to throw myself out of a window, but I kept on because it DOES say something very transcendent. Heavy handed metaphors aside, the whole fighting against darkness and meaninglessness thing is pretty cool.
Sal: If DC didn't get it, and they were like ,"Okay, vampires and stuff..." Time (1:03:40 - 1:03:47)... Gold.
I love the look of rage on Ben's face throughout this review
I'm really happy to say I'm a big fan of back issues, the fact that you're all 100 episodes in and still as awesome and funny as you were at the beginning, if not more so, is fantastic! Final Crisis is one of the most confusing comic book crossover story-arcs I have ever read to date
A club called Darkseid run by a guy named Boss Darkseid. Good to know he is creative, and subtle.
“Who’s our DJ for the wedding party?”
“Darkseid is.”
The "death" is not just running through Darkseid and saying "ok, let me kill him, why not :P", it is because Batman mortally wound Darkseid, who is dying; and those dying creatures would be dead soon or later when "death" catches them.

Thank you for all the fun, and awesome ending
thanks Fred! Have we mentioned that you rock lately? Because you rock.
you guys rock, you created community of people with similar interests and allowed us all to connect.
I read Final Crisis years ago, but now it makes more sense after watching this episode and I want to buy it.
Keep on the good work and PLEASE do some New X Men from Morrison
Hearing Sal say "The money is still green b*tch" was the funniest thing ill hear this year and its only February

This is the best comic show (series) I've watched on youtube, well done guys!
Best comic-related channel on the Internet! Congrats on 100 episodes!
WOOOO! Congrats on number 100. You guys really helped me get into comics when i first started watching and now I have humble collection of trades and issues. Cant wait for next week.
"She's like an old lady that's also like a Warrior Bitch..."
That get's me every time!!
I love it when I revisit these videos to check if I should consider buying the comic or not and I can immediately tell from the thumbnail.
Congratulations on 100, Been following for about a year and a half, love how the show (and the channel) have evolved. Keep up the great work, know that we, the population, look forward to what's next............even though Daredevil can't.......
I just realized Darksieds plan is sorta just Plan Z from SpongeBob in some aspects.
+b1merio Zero Hour is 110 (technically called "A Crisis in Time"). Convergence... I don't know if I have the strength. Thank you!
weren't there a bunch of other crisis (just pretend I wrote this in plural form) before crisis on infinite earths?
Yea Zero Hour sounds interesting any congrats comic pop you guys are awesome 😤
Xavi Golden ah okay thanks man.
Congrats on the 100! You guys rule. It was saga for me I stopped the episode on the wills issue bought vol 1 then 2-4 then remembered I didn't finish the episode. Thanks for the content and all the best.
Congrats on 100 episodes! You guys have the best show on youtube, I have been so psyched for you guys to tackle Final Crisis!
44:24 Darkseid is a BLUE MEANIE!
When Grant Morrison goes full Grant Morrison, Expect chaos
I just saw a review from Nostalgia Critic about the Lady in the Water RIGHT BEFORE I watched this
Those types of coincidences make me question reality.
48:26 does anybody else feel like they need to be high in order to understand what happened.
I love that Geoff Johns follows Sal on Twitter, I kinda hope he's watched this
I was still in high school when I read this so I didn't catch the editor-bashing, that's amazing!
20:30 And then Scott Snyder retconned ALL OF THIS.
WTF IS WRONG WITH BEN'S FACE. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
I'm 10 minutes in and just noticed it was him.
#BringBackBensBeard
Yeah Ben you were hella sexy now your pretty ight
+LameWorks Ben's beard died for our sins
+LameWorks I know, right? I was like "NO, it's Mirror Universe Ben!" :D
Call it what it is, I still love Final Crisis.
yeah, I love the insane stuff in it.
I burst out laughing at work when Sal was making fun of DC editorial.. "Oh Cool!! Vampires!!" Lol.. Had a few ppl
Look at me weird.. Good job guys (first time commenting on UA-cam) congrats on your big episode
we've all had moments like that, trust me. Thanks for sharing and being a part of the POPulation!
I had tears during that ending. You 4 are awesome and I look forward to 100 more.
thanks, Mercy! You've been with us for the long haul, we appreciate it!
"Fuck you for reading this book to us and telling us. This is bullshit!" Great quote, instant like. Congrats on the century mark with Back Issues. All the best to the channel!
Congrats on 100 guys. I can't believe I've been following these since episode 17. It really doesn't seem that long.
