The first John Wick had a lot more story than some give it credit for. Everyone brings up that he's pissed at the people that killed his dog, but the reason for that is because the dog was a gift from his wife before she died. So by killing John's dog, they've kinda killed his wife in a sense, or the closest thing to her that he has left. It's a pretty clever spin on the 'revenge for a family member' trope.
The dog was so much more than just a token to remember his wife by. It was a last gift from his wife. Her reminder to him to not lose hope in humanity, to continue actually living instead of merely existing until death comes knocking on the front door. And so much more. This dog made him capable of smiling again of feeling joy in life. - When those goons killed his dog out of mere pettiness...this random act of cruelty made something break in him. All that was left to him was rage and a need for vengeance. - It was a genius piece of story telling without any Marvel style hand holding. I just love it.
@@AW-ix5qg Agreed , it was the emotional crux which made the whole thing work and without it we're left with impressively choreographed but tensionless action with nothing to ground the story in reality. Not to hate on the sequels, I enjoy them, but they're terrible as sequels.
John Wick wasn't a one-man-army, he was an expert. That first film worked to make his badassery plausible. But this series is no longer a dark, grounded hard hitting action-thriller, it's a first person shooter ghost train ride. Fun, but ultimately vapid.
I can't remember the last time Knight's Watch was SATISFIED with something they reviewed! It was almost confusing.
House of the Dragon off the top of my head. If you think they're only negative, you're not paying attention.
That intro 😂
cant help but feel UA-cam is not going to like that.
That was fantastic! I wanted to see more lol
It's good to see UA-camrs having something good to talk about sometimes.
27:25 Dragon's Breath. 12G rounds with magnesium shards. 30:25 the best fight scene in Marvel is the prison fight from the Punisher tv series.
i had faith some other gun nerd would have beat me to it 👍
tbf the best (good) fight scene(s) in an mcu *film* specifically, which i'm pretty sure are found in exactly winter soldier, are pretty fucking competitive with some of the daredevil/punisher stuff
The Pennywise guy played the best bond villain of the last 20 years...
Very nice! =) Another great show from the Shad crew! Great job guys!
When it comes to the France Roundabout scene...that's just your average day trying to drive in France
this movie was absolutely AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL. i really dont know how to sum this film up properly. it was just visually stunning. its just "brain making the happy chemical non-stop for the whole run time". 8.5-9/10 for me. I highly reccommend this.
the main thing about the roundabout is Wick's car gets no damage after the doors are removed . the 2nd movie his mustang is on its last leg after he leaves the warehouse.
22:45 you make him blind to reference the traditional Zatoichi type of characters.
Nice of Nathan to pause at the end so Tyranth could steal the thunder 😆
Nun Chucks: Good evening Mr. Brooks.🧐
Shad Brooks: ...Evening to you too Mr. Chucks...😠
Nun Chucks: So here we are again.🧐
Shad Brooks: ...Yes... Again...😡
Can't wait to see this. I binged the first 3 the other day. It's contained because it was written and directed by the same people. They probably had a planned story arc, and it shows.
? 2 was crap and 3 was obysmal in terms of story
Dont drink too much before the movie or take a pee bottle with you 😂 … it’s fucking long
And it goes on with 4. it’s almost as bad as 3
@@peterfromaustria724 Yes, I know, I sat through Return of the King, Avatar way of water, to name but two. No problem. I got this 😉
@@zohzie 3 ok. But 2?? Why?
For how far a human can fall, I was once told that every foot you fall adds a percentage to the chance you'll die, i.e. falling 95 feet means you have a 95% chance of dying. (I'm sure that's just a rule of thumb, of course. You can die from tripping over the cat if you land on your head).
Dragon Breath rounds are a real thing, they shoot out shredded magnesium that creates that fireball, however I've only known it in a shotgun platform
Nathan, you don't have to lie. This channel is my favorite ASMR channel and the only ASMR channel I watch
I would like to see a medieval John Wick style movie
The suit armor got leveled up at the end of Wick3 it is significantly more robust than the suit armor introduced in Wick 2. The 9mm rounds he and Charon were using were extremely powerful, almost up to the level of .357 magnum, and sometimes they were even fired from a 9mm carbine (significantly increases the velocity again because of the much longer barrel). High Table goons were taking like 5 to 6 hits just feet away from the muzzle where a bullet would be the fastest. Shortly before the Wick 3 climax, Wick is issued a new suit presumably equipped with the new age armor. I am assuming that the Bowery found a way to reverse engineered that armor also Wicks suit at the end had a double layer of armor with both the vest and suit coat being armored.
Also I want to say I thought it was cool that the yakuza clan grabbed their swords and Samurai bows and swords because modern soft body armor desinged to stop ballistic threats is significantly less effective against knives and bows. It makes sense in this case because the old school samurai weapons would actually have a good chance penetrating the space aged but still soft body armor of the HighTable Forces. Swords and bows would certainly penetrate kevlar. Bullets are fat, soft, and dull. Medieval weapons are narrow, hard, and sharp. That allows them push through / cut ballistic fibers and push the fibers aside. They can get through when a bullet won't.
I don't think I ever seen a whole scene shot from a top down perspective before. Unqiue is truly the correct word.
The Blues Brothers had a scene like that. Might have been added in a directors cut though. Also, it certainly wasn't as long or elaborate.
Let’s be real; the John Wick movies have been stupid since the 2nd one
there actually was an end credits scene in John Wick Chapter 4
Yesterday I was at the screening and although I had a good time, they screwed up a few times. While I am still able to come to terms with the fact that these "magic suits" have been so improved that even a collision with a car does not hurt them (that's not how bulletproof works!!!), how did this dog come out unscathed after being hit by a car!!!! The scene on the stairs was a bad joke. You could see with the naked eye that Wick kept rolling down the stairs by himself. It was terribly out of the movie. As far as I could understand, this German he has multiple lives and gets up again and again like john even though he should be dead by now i don't understand how that nameless gorilla or two kept respawning even though i think they killed them like 6 times in that movie but other than that it was awesome.
18:09 the big dude is Scott Atkins a Stunt man actor from the British isles think it is england but i have not looked it up.
How was blind assassin guy able to use his hearing anymore?
The shotgun was fireing Dragonbreath rounds.
Regarding roundabout scene. It is realistic. If you think it isn't, you haven't shared a road with the French
Finally could tune in as I've just returned from watching the movie. I agree with your verdict, it's a solid 8/10 for me too. And I have the same issues for why the movie is not a 9 or a 10.
Donny Yen really felt like he was highjacked straight from Rogue One, except here there was no supernatural element (the Force, if you will) guiding his aim. I'd be fine with him being blind on one eye instead of both. Still a massive handicap (impaired depth perception among other things) but much more plausible to be ammended with skill than total blindness.
The underreaction of NPCs has always been a problem of the series. Even if we assume everyone it this world is an assassin or working for them (as it's somewhat implied), it's still a basic reflex to move away and take cover when there are actual bullets flying around in your vicinity.
And, of course, the invincible kevlar suit. Protection from bullets is not immunity to impact. Shots aside, being hit by cars multiple times or falling from high altitude should be much more damaging/disabilitating than "let me walk it off within a couple minutes".
Then again, if those are the most aggravating issues to pinpoint in, at the end of the day, ACTION movies, it's still much better than 90% of contemporary cinema and television.
I really need to stop pausing and commenting but, Dragonbreath is a real shotgun ammunition that we here in the USA can just buy. It wasn't created for this movie it was a nod to gun guys so they would see it and go "Finally some is using it in a movie."
Always nice to see thigh pants and Nathan discuss movies
You know, the action in John Wick films is pretty much over the top on purpose like in old-style Kung-Fu films. Choreographed like a ballet. It is utterly ridiculous like in a comic book. There's no use to expect blast injury due to pistols fired in rooms nor any cracked spines from dropping from 4th storey. Folks who know about firearms and the balistics etc. can have a good laugh at this spectacle w/o feeling insulted like in films that claim accuracy. The John Wick films don't -- they're literally grotesque in the best way.
Well, that escalated quickly.
I can't excuse the nonsense that goes in this movie. Some of the same mistakes we see in Disney products yet people are loving it? Because it is not woke at all? Specially when the first is brilliant.
The bar is set so low.
I'm excited to go see this one! Just got all three previous movies on bluray to rewatch before I go out to see this one. I always avoid opening weekends though.
Honestly just watch the first one and save yourself the trouble. Don't bother with the rest of them
Can't watch the whole review 'cause I don't want to spoil myself. But thanks for the recommendation guys! Glad to see y'all found something enjoyable to watch.
There was a end credit scene.
The "phaser" is real that ammo exists and it's used as pest control stateside. Mind you it's not as powerful as it was shown to be but if you look closely they even show the box of them and that is their actual name. I wrote this comment this way to avoid spoilers but evedyone who's seen the movie will know what dragons breath is now.
I soo love when you all get to see something you liked. As hard as you are on garbage media you give credit where it is due. ❤️
I knew the second I saw the nunchucks shad would have some words.
The movie is absolute insanity and I loved every second. Also there was a post credits scene. The fact you made a big deal about it not having one is pretty funny
Greatest intro ever 🎉
I’m looking forward to seeing John Wick Chapter 4 when I get around to doing so. Seeing as though every review I’ve seen thus far have said this movie is amazing. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
you will really enjoy it
Nunchuck scenes are fantastic
And dragons breath
I was disappointed that Aurelio didn't make an appearance and that john never got his car back. other than that I loved it
the guy with the dog was "nobody" an auditor for those 3 letter agencies.
Kill Bill did the top down camera first the Oren Ishi. Incendiary rounds they, called Dragon rounds in the movie.
The Blues Brothers also had a scene like that. Directors cut only maybe, but it's there.
The german boss looked like Mr Lunt from veggie tales. The gold teeth, and even the shape of him.
I feel like this wasnt a movie as much as a youtube fight scene compilation video for a movie.
27:43
Dragon Breath shot gun round are a real round you can buy, Phosphorus rounds, in an AR platform automatic shot gun.
Haven't seen it yet
I seperate the JW films into 1 and 2-4. 1 is grounded, 2-4 suffers from trying to up the ante of the previous movie and adding in plot elements that would not always fit in with the previous films.
The action in 4, at times, went on for too long.
Highlight was easily blind fu fighting with Donnie Yen.
I look forward to Tyranth's Tetragramaton Training video.
Ranking the John Wick films from best to worst... 1, 2, 4, 3
Lol toff is so cool. Do you think this Director could handle a live adaptation of Airbender?
first off JW4 is brilliant, but im going to do a video about how JW is inspired by Hotline Miami very obviously. Most notably in JW1 and very very obviously in JW4.
I really like Bullet Train. They do this thing with a water bottle that's really good.
So, will we get Tetragramaton ASMR from the sound bites of Tyranth's gun-fu video? Loud gunshots?
Brilliant Intro…😂😂😂😂😂
The John Wick prequel that I want to see is the mission that got him his original retirement.
I watched John Wick 4 last night. Fantastic film. I'm unsure about the ending though.
Lets break this down; Acting needs Confidence and Impersonation. 2 Points. Effects help keep the story engaging. 1 Point. Cinematography show what should be shown and hides the rest. 1 Point Background design; this is the Set, sound and location. 3 Points.
A story need, memorable characters, a simple main plot with complicated smaller ones, an immersive setting, an underlying meaning/theme, realistic dialogue for the characters, and an understandable conflict the builds tension. 6 POINTS
Then you need to remember this; films, thereat and stories all share a few things. But one in particular the audience does not look for be will notice immediately if it lacks and will not like the film. Convincing portrayal. This needs to be in the Acting, the Visuals and the Story. If any is lacking a point is lost. But because of the need for immersion this is doubled. 6 POINTS.
In order to have a good film you MUST reach no less then 11 points on my little scale. In order to have a great film it must be 16 points or higher. I like my scale because I can adjusted the numbers by 10 and it still means the same. Either max points are 19 or 190 it can all be converted.
You could make it 1.9 or 1900 just as easily, and it would still be the same. Nice.
Love your reviews, but I had to leave so as not to have the movie spoiled. I look forward to watching the rest after I have seen the movie. Keep up the good work.
this is not me taking away from 4 it is a masterpiece but the reason why 1 was so amazing is because jhon wick was not a superhero ... it feels as if he just became invincible ... I'm glad he died in the end it felt bond like it felt right
u need to sit thru the credits they do a marvel like teaser at the end
Huh. It sounds like they listened to what fans wanted - and delivered it. Imagine that in today's Hollywood.
Is that a positive video from the knights watch I see, I didn't realise it was my birthday
I am convinced i'll be back!
That intro though !! Lmao
23:00 lets be honest.. the dog needs an oscar.. ALL dogs deserve Oscars
Dogs deserve death.
They should have used Bat'leths too.
Why give Shad only one Ulcer?
the shotgun with the fire those are dragons breath shells they burn wounds from the inside
Also pretty sure there was a scene in the credits
Blind Fury with Rutger Hauer. Just saying.
I’ve seen the top down view perspective before from corridor Digital. I believe they probably took the idea from them.
Nice! Good news for once.
Awesome Intro. Lol
I still hold with the fan theory that John Wick is the dark timeline where Ted had to go to military school.
Sorry but i hated it overall. The action scenes were the only thing i would give it credit for. The plot and plot armor was laughable. Set pieces while adrenaline pumping, well paced and all were just stupidly fast and the furious like. Definitely disagree hard with the video title lol.
I greatly dislike no 3 as well and i think this series peaked at and should have stopped at 2.
I would give it 6/10 max 7/10 because keanu is a sweetheart.
I'm curious how you think it peaked with 2. Chapter 2 is still pretty fast n furious, especially the opening. The action is more impressive, but the tension is gone. And while the world-building is great the characters were already reduced to invincible cool guys rather than believable professionals.
Oh, a character in the first movie references John killing a guy with a pencil? Well screw that subtle bit of characterization, let's show him kill a guy with a pencil.
@@TheNwahDango Why is the tension gone? It's just replaced by something else with the whole santino situation being the new powder keg then him being hunted. It was cool to see the pencil thing play out after it being referenced twice once in each of the first 2 movies. From the 3rd it started going off the deep end. 4 was amazing and a disappointment to me at the same time. I am of 2 minds about it. As much as you ma have a point about invincible cool guys firstly there is only john and most of the others are at least human but 3 and 4 have the good and bad guys be ridiculously invincible so how is that a good thing? It is just my personal view though among other issues i have with 3 and 4.
Thank you very much for the video.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's on my watch list.
Spoilers, never bothered me...
Also,asIrecommendedintheresponsetothevideo "Reverse SWORD grip" in the Sadiverity channel, I recommend the movie "Blind fury" (1989), where the main character, that he is blind, uses the reverse grip a lot.
But, when facing another opponent in a duel, he holds a normal grip.
In this movie, he handle it well with the fact that he doesn't see, but hears.
It feels realistic. Especially when dealing with places with strong environmental noise.
The budget was around $90 million to make John Wick 4. "Such is life."
That opening 😂😂😂 poor Nathan.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to watch this, yet so I'll have to come back later, but I wanted to come comment for the AlGoRiThM and to further my quest!
Shad, review A Knight's Tale! I'm sure you've seen it, but it would still be cool.
I'll be back after I watch it Sunday
I ignored the spoiler warning and I only have myself to blame.
Thanks guys for the great content.
5 minutes in and hsve have to go to avoid the spoilers. You guy have me excited to watch this movie.
Grammar edit.
I think the 'people not noticing guns' thing is an aesthetic choice by the filmmakers. Its been pretty consistent throughout the films. Yeah, they eventually run away once enough of it happens, but it doesn't bother me, because this is a universe where every third person is an assassin.
Ah the roundabout around the arc de triumph
Auto Next took me here from Esper's last stream. Dispite all of google's efforts to break it since 2013 the algorithm still works!
I love you all. May The All Father watch over you in these troubled times, in these darkest of ages.
There actually was an end credit scene, if you're interested.
i feel like long ago practical effect or stuff were more expensive and time consuming to make so they started CG. now it seems CG are more expensive and time consuming. obviously CG can create more impossible visual effect, but now they try to do more grounded stuffs with CG, and just looking more bad and expensive and time consuming.
I don't think you can truly judge a lone John Wick film on story. I mean they're broken up into chapters. I think you should approach the Wick films as a whole as you would a single book. That might sound weird. each film is like 2 hours. Well the audio book for Helsreach is 13 hours and 5 John Wick movies comes in at around 10-14 hours (assuming times stay within 2-2 1/2 range)
So yeah I view the series as a book and think as a whole the story will close nicely come Chapter 5. The last chapter.
I can't wait for it to be out on dvd so I can watch it at home since the cinmas are expensive
Yeah it was a logical and expected ending.
Regarding spoilers section it doesn't make sense for donnie yen's character to survive does it? Doesn't the rules state that if the main guy loses the alternate or secondary dies as well?
Also the high table is lame. We dont even see any of them assembled ever except the one family in no 2. That is just wack when the lame ass useless elders are shown in no 3 and 4 with 2 different actors while largely being inconsequential.
Yeah it felt like there is backstory missing but while i didnt even notice the long run time go by it would have been far too long even for such an entertaining movie. Donnie yen's characters motivations and actions are just wack to me. The dog guy i have no idea why he was in the movie. He and the dog did a good job but they always felt out of place and too unknown to me motivation and existence wise in that story in this movie. Also the dog conveniently is busy elsewhere when he needs to have a 1v1 and then appears at lightning speed at other times. Also his motivations are weird with the book and all. He needs money doesnt need money blah blah but he cannot retire anyway. No idea why he wants to keep john wick alive even with the money example. There is no guarantee that someone else would not kill him and get the money with the amount of people after him. At the end he gets nothing.
Also after the duel no medical attention for either party? Like i get it it John wants to die and refused it but even if he wanted to finally enjoy his retirement he would bleed to death?
Maybe the High Table is like the Guild of Calamitous Intent and try to be secretive (poorly since everyone seems to know who they are) and only meet via zoom meetings.
@@wormfood83 That is the stupid thing isn't it. Everyone except us knows who they are. Well except for santino and his sister
I give a bonus point for that awesome shotgun scenes which make it 9/10
I also regret to inform you that there WAS an end credit scene that you missed.
He got shot in the bum earlier, then later he's running from Wick like nothing happened.
Nobody wants to see James Bond die.
I think the blind character was a love letter to zetochi the blind swordsman. They tend to have characters to love letters to other action movies in John wick because they are fans
This movie was great. Wish the Wick movies continued. One of the only good movies nowadays and this was like the first time I went to the cinema after Top-gun.
That's what I'm hoping to watch them one after another. I watched one and didn't click I think it was the 2nd one so like noooooo I missed the start film .
I think they must have spent quite an amount. Did you see the number of vfx studios they hired lol. I guess they learnt from marvel's mistakes and decided to give multiple studios different jobs so that work would get done on time without crunch.
