- Bless Online is a Korean MMORPG that's likely to come to the west in the future and has recently gone into open BETA in Korea, I've known about this MMO for quite some time and I've been really excited to try it because of how good the graphics and world have looked in the trailers I've seen, Whilst I didn't get to check out Dungeons, PVP or Raids there was quite a lot that I was impressed with in Bless Online and I feel like it's a game with massive potential that's held back by one giant flaw...
I played Bless Online for 6 hours and condensed my thoughts into this 33 minute first impressions / first look styled video with a mini review of my playtime at the end, Is Bless Online a game worth playing or being excited for? let me know in the comments below!

Dude, bad mobility is like, part and parcel to a mage in any mmo. The trade off is that they do a tonne of damage when they stand still.

To anyone looking at playing this game but is turned off by the combat. This game was supposed to release last year but that took a year and a half delay to work on revamping the combat system hopefully peon sees this

Last month they released a huge statement about how they're going to completely overhaul the combat.
So, that's good news for when it drops in America in Spring (UNCONFIRMED RUMORS) of 2017.

I really loved the fact you were able to just traverse out in the world like that, its abit barren but damn does it look like a huge world. Feels like it could really let you build something there.
Looks nice, and i agree we need more exploration in MMORPG's again. I loved it with WoW to just go to a coast line and follow it. See where we would end up. Seeing a farm at some bent after 20 minutes walking, with no other way to reach it. Those where the day's. With flying mounts it became less of a thing to explore :(
"They have to have that one tiny race" I once read an article on video game avatar choices and the two most popular choices were human (usually an idealized version of the person playing the avatar) and the small "cute/comedic" race. I think the reason they add them is due to their popularity since way back when even WoW's second most popular race behind human was gnome and it just makes sense that the two most popular character types make it into every game.
There was also some interesting stuff on jovial personalities being drawn to comedic character designs like gnomes or pandas and more "hardcore" gamers being drawn to more monstrous character designs like undead and orcs, but you know, blah, blah, blah, etc. etc.

Obviously they have made the combat system to where each class requires a group of people to support each other. You complained about the mage being immobile and static, but that is the very definition of a mage. They take time to charge up spells and have low mobility and self defence, but high offence/support. They REQUIRE help from others, examples being a tank. And then the tank would also obviously require a mage to support him because they cant take tons of damage forever, they have to heal. My best guess is they made this game in mind for groups of people to fight together, not soloing, although there might be one class specifically suited for being solo. This IS an MMO so grouping should be expected.

the combat isnt actually that bad. remember this is a MMO with players around meaning if you cant do something solo you can always ask for help like a healer or even just anyone can help you through that area you're stuck on. i can understand if u say its the main storyline it shouldnt have group content but its a mmo, treat it as such and you'll have a great time.
You are right the combat system has some more work to do on but the graphics and animation of the spells are really nice done !!!

I'm not done with the video, and here is a little bit of critique.
The whole "Jompu!" is starting to get a little bit annoying. As in, it's used every time you jump in every video.

I think the shorter races are just something that people can identify with. You're a small character in a huge world, but you're still a complete badass. As an Asian guy, I'm even on the taller end for asian guys, but when I walk around campus somedays, I just feel short. (but when I walk out in public I feel quite tall, it's wierd). Obviously this is made in Korea, not much variance in races, but I think the general idea over there is that "Westerners are so big" etc. So having a shorter cuter race is appealing.

I told you that we would make an update
after the Gamescom as well as C-Level meetings Neowiz and Aeria had and
now I’d like to update you about the current status of the game.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t come up with a fix launch date and milestones
like close beta tests and open beta tests because the project is bigger
than expected and the game needs a couple of tweaks to be able to
penetrate the western MMO market and to have a stable and sustainable
future in there.
We as Aeria Games want to deliver you
the best Bless version as possible. The game has a great lore behind its
world, solid gameplay and a big potential to become a sustainable and
long lasting MMORPG in the western market. In order to make that happen
though, we need to deliver a more polished and complete product. We are
still talking about what the change needs are and what needs to be done
before the game comes to the western market. Here are a couple of things
that Neowiz Bless Studio will be working on:
Ingame performance: Neowiz Bless Studio
is putting the most effort and planning to improve the performance
aspects of massive battle contents such as Siege of Castra, Capital War,
Raid etc. to provide the players the best gaming environment.
Combat System: As many of you might
know, the combat system as of now feels unresponsive and the action
combat is not on par with current generation action MMORPGs. Neowiz will
be working on both tab targeting and action combat systems to have
better combat experience in both systems. In the end of the day, combat
is a very important aspect of every MMO and needs to feel good to keep
players entertained in combat.
These are two of many changes, which
will come to with the western release of Bless. I understand from a
player perspective that it sucks to wait for a game for an indefinite
amount of time but on the other hand, it is going to be above your
expectations and is going to be a blast once the game is there.
Meanwhile, we will be finalizing the list of action items together with
Neowiz to finalize the release date. I’ll let you know once we have more
concrete information.

Personally i don't mind the wait a lot, understanding there is time required to perfectionize the game and make it most close to the complete form it's meant to be, so take all the time you need and Good Luck, try to have fun too if possible :]

I sort of feel bad for the Korean art designers that do so well in making such nice looking games, only for thee game to fail in other places like combat or UI. It's like looking for a girlfriend/boyfriend. A person with a great face and figure (graphics) will get your attention, but it's their personality (gameplay+features+social environments) that keeps the attention for years.
this MMO looks like it was heavily inspired by Lord of the Rings.

Was looking into some new MMOs and this Bless Online looks something I'm really looking forward to. So is this only open beta in Korea right now? Hopefully they can release it by the end of this in the west maybe about the same time and not too far off from Korea release... *fingers cross*
Such a shame with the combat system, because the look of the game is absolutely amazing! Everything from the character details, customization and look of abilities is beautiful! I think if not for the combat system of the game, it would have taken the spot of Black Desert of most anticipated games for me.
What I do like about the game, is that the combat seems challenging as you cannot take on 15 enemies at a time, as you can in black desert, and the weapons seem "realistic" unlike in Tera. If they changed the combat system, to be action combat with the same fluidity as Black Desert, would you play this game over BDO?

Like Tera where you click on your combos of 1-2-3 and chain your attacks to cancel animations or make them faster? Or like in BDO where various keys interfere with the basics of the abilities, making it kind of like a "Tekken"-themed combat?
+Levi Hornby Never really played Neverwinter, so I cannot comment on that, but the tabtargeting is somewhat similar to WoW, although very different as it seems that you "Lock on" to a target through action combat, without clicking on the target. This just seems to make it unreliable and annoying to use effectively.
I think there's something wrong with the quality of the video. At 1080p it's still blurry and square-y.

Playing mage = saying that combat is static .. duh ? ... ofc mage is supposed to cast .... same as in wow cuz it has tab targeting combat system except you can turn on "action camera" but it does not have action combat system like GW2 , BnS or any of named games you mentioned have

Mages usually are more like the same concept as rogues yet at range; weak as paper, a lot of damage if left alone, so it survives using CC and mobility skills.
The combat looked fine. It seems more of an actual RPG instead of Action RPG. I know the newer crowd loves the fast paced action RPGs, but those games tend to revolve around sheer amounts of luck than actual skill. Being able to actually think and make your next move always seemed more advanced to me, leaning towards strategy and not button mashing; however, that being said you did make some valid points in you video and I respect your opinion of the subject matter. I will be waiting for this game to be released in the West.
I can think just fine about what to do in Black Desert and Blade & Soul tbh. Just because you can't doesn't mean everyone's just relying on "luck".
Demozo Not even true. We obviously have a much different understanding of the terms. I've seen too many "Good Players" lose to newbies because of a missed click, in a 20+ chain combo.

CrashSquirrel I completely agree with you. There are entirely too many Action RPG MMOs, and surprise surprise, they never survive long. There is nothing wrong with tab-targeting, evidence being WoW still has ridiculous amount of subscribers. Also, I didn't see anything wrong with the combat. Perhaps if Peon was using his blink to kite, instead of dashing through the enemies.. he would've had more success. I prefer to think about my next move rather than mash my face on the keyboard and do extremely flashy moves and kill everything.

There's no official release date for NA. They're still in Closed Beta Testing in North Korea and Russia.
America most likely won't see a beta test until March or April of 2017.
Thankfully that's not too far. I really kinda want to try this game.

Having played this game myself for a few days, I can concur with your frustrations of the combat system. It's one of the reasons I was keen to watch your first impressions of this particular MMO. I too felt the combat was clunky, sticky and very unsatisfying. And why, oh why is no fall damage a thing? In such a beautifully deisnged world, it really ruined my desire to explore further. I was so hyped for this game and feel it was a total 'nope fest.' for me. Top vid - enjoyed it! :)
It's a MMO that is based on Realm v's Realm and capturing territory - when you get out of the starting areas you were in you start to encounter open world PvP (around level 25-30). The combat is fine, I cannot understand how you died so much, I played a mage and it's a really powerful class, did you just use quest gear or actually craft your own stuff ? Because if you do not craft or buy crafted gear then you are woefully underpowered, and have lower health pool than you should.
There again the names on the factions were directly under the (2 headed dragon thing) so if you cannot read a simple couple of lines of text then maybe to know the faction names, maybe we can see the lack of attention you apply - to what is basically a job for you... to play MMO's

everything looks amazing, i love combat that plays that way(where it doesn't matter what class you are if you play wrong you die), will be my go to game for sure :P
most range classes have static combat especially mages/wiards because they usually have long cast times for their abilities

I think it's good to offer criticism in beta, as there's still a chance for improvement. Plus, its so integral to gameplay that it makes or breaks a game.

Perhaps you are actually looking at the combat as a single player game? Seems to me that you are supposed to rely on others to play it and survive stronger mobs. Which is what mmos NEED desperately: Comunity. Groups. Socialization.
Of course, the combat looks as stuck as in WoW with it's tab-targeting but some people (me for an instance) don't like the run-around rolling and button mashing in an RPG. It IS an RPG on it's core, it shoud have minimum tactical combat and positioning to succeed an encounter.
Lets see how it plays when it comes out.

In regard to tiny races, I play a small one myself. Not only is it funny as heck in all kinds of situations, but it can be extremely useful in a fight, because us smalls can get up under the enemy and gut it, while it's standing there looking around for us!
