To be fair, Disney having territory they govern is just kind of weird. Like, my libertarian friend really likes their model and thinks more corporations should own towns that they are based in, but I would not expect liberals to support it.
Agreed. Like, I don't agree with Disney having that kind of deal in the first place, but the state is threatening to revoke it for the worst possible reason.
It’s been done A LOT. Most cases did not end well. Neither did corporation run countries. Lowell Mill Towns, Fordlandia, Oneida NY, Hershey PA, Sugar Land TX, Stanleytown VA, Cass WV, Kohler WI, Alberta MI for a few.
One of my favorite songs is about a company town!

While that is a misattributed quote, it is based on the fact that because parts of Russia can be seen from parts of Alaska, that this gives her greater insight into Russian Politics that people from other states.

I'm from upstate, with family from the city. And no other depiction of NY has ever rung as true as Ben's NY. Perfection.
Also, NY is a combo of Texas with confidence instead of ego, Florida if it was ever mostly sober, and it actually mostly fits in with New England but has an attitude about it because it was excluded for being on the next street over.

as an Alaskan I'd like to take this opportunity to say I thought we heard the last of Sarah Palin and honestly thought she got eaten by a bear... I didn't read any news stories about the bear thing but a lot of stupid people in Alaska end up getting eaten by the wild life and like I said we haven't heard from her in a long time so maybe it was just wishful thinking
As a Kentucky born, our state is so badly gerrymandered that even though Mitch McConnell has extremely low ratings, whenever he runs opposed he still wins, he usually runs unopposed but when he is, it's only by democrats who can't win widespread support because they fail to understand that of KY 4 million citizens, less than 400,000 live in major cities and therefore policies that are if not beneficial, at least tolerable in major cities, are not beneficial or otherwise intolerable by the vast majority of the state. And because he runs the Republicans, the party never puts forth another candidate against him. So kentuckians in the cities have the freedom to vote how they feel benefits them, but kentuckians in rural areas and small towns are basically stuck either voting against their best interests and voting for someone who they disagree with, or voting for a representative who does nothing and holds the state back in the 1990s because state leaders will follow mitch rather blindly. Mitch knows he has a strangle hold on his seat and thus hardly even campaigns, most voters don't even know who's running until they step in the booth, then they just go with the name they know because it has a little R next to it instead of D.
The real problem is even if a candidate campaigned on all the issues important to rural American, the majority would still vote for the R, even when they know McConnell is a lying sack of dung, because reasons.
Why is California the moral high ground? 😂
