I saw Disturbed play this live in concert. It was amazing!
If you gear the original by Simon and Garfield, there's was a warning. People were on their way to losing the family structures we held close. Transistor radios were out, tv's were more and more out there. Out went family dinners, kids tuned out everything from school to parents because you could take your music and play it anyway you wanted. It was the verge of total complete break down of our way of life. David's version was the answer to the first song. He showed anger because no one took the warning. And here we are today where life means nothing anymore, no respect for law enforcement, or family. Schools have gotten rough to go to. It's going to get so bad that home schooling is going to be the only way to get an education. David done an outstanding job on this song and I hope he reached the point he was trying for. He got my attention. I get goose bumps plus when it's over. I cry for what we have lost. The social fabric of our way of life.

I am 76 and remember Simon & Garfunkel singing this in 1964 and a bunch of other people. It was not until I heard Disturbed's version did I understand the song. Others suggest and beg you to listen to the studio version which has exceptional cinematography to tell the story. This version(3/28/2016) has the 20-piece orchestra while the studio version(2015) is not as full and has only one drum, piano, guitar, and a couple of strings.

Damn! David Draiman can sing! ...one of the best on the planet imho. He can even put vibrato on distortion! ... which is incredible difficult to do. Sometimes his voice is clear angelic... then on a dime comes the distortion and back... which is really so difficult to accomplish. The man has such control of his voice! ... it's really amazing! I remember seeing disturbed at Download (UK metal festival) and omg it was so amazing.
This really is amazing. I enjoy it so much anytime I watch it. This is like the anger for not heeding the original warning. And geoff's newest is the follow up sadness and reflection (for me at least😂)

I love Disturbed's version. I can feel it, and all of the feeling and the anger. It just happens that I don't belong there anymore, so to say. Maybe I got too old 😁😅.
But I can still appreciate it just as much, as I said I love this version, as I love all of them that were in the quote above. I feel them to just be different... To express different feelings and attitudes.

This became one of my favorite versions of this song. This is a tribute to the original rather than a cover of it. However, if you want to hear what Disturbed really sounds like, try Down with the Sickness.
From my understanding, Dave, the lead singer was not feeling very well when this was recorded. David Draven was also a trained cantor.

Hey Sarge! Working for Live Nation, I've had the privilege of seeing a lot of different bands and groups. Besides Iron Maiden, I'm looking forward to seeing Jinjer at an outdoor venue. The best part for me is that I work right next to the stage. It's going to be an outstanding show on July 23.
