Let me start by saying I'm a 59 yr old Black woman from Detroit. Metal is about as far from what I listen to as anything could be. Sound of Silence was the door that led me into their music and I'm a fan now, flat out. Teleworking thru the pandemic rocking out to Disturbed, I surprised myself (and my family, LOL). Try "The Light" (my favorite original of theirs) and "Reason to Fight". Both are excellent showcases of Draiman's vocal talents & songwriting. Donegan's composing, Moyer creates some funky basslines and if you've ever heard "Down with the Sickness" you already know what Wengren can do with those drums. Yep, I'm a fan, fr! Hope to see you check out more Disturbed in future reactions.
What's most amazing about this performance aside from the sheer power emotion and pure talent is the fact that Draimon was sick that night which is why he's sitting throughout the whole thing. That's what I call dedication to his craft when the man was like I signed on for this and I'm gonna do it.
@@johnbarraco5561 He wasn't "Sick". This interview he explains his vocal injury the day he was to sing on "Conan" ...the discussion is at the 1:14:08 ua-cam.com/video/osBbQLhOp8A/v-deo.html
David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is so difficult to do . He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! ...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction FTB.
The timpani on stage was a fantastic choice - everything about the staging of this performance was perfect. I get chills every time I hear/see this song - and I grew up on the S&G version. David Draiman's voice is amazing - the way he goes from the depths of hell to the heavens, with all that angry growl too - wowza. 🙂❤
Simon And Garfunkel version was a warning, Disturbed version is an outcome. Brilliant version from a brilliant singer. Also, his voice was in no way manipulated in this. It is 100% his voice.
thanks to Simon & Garfunkel for writing and recording this classic over 50 years ago, allowing Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to revisit the message.....it was a warning of an increasingly disconnected society embracing 'silence'........David's interpretation tells us that people still prefer silence to participation in the world........
You just can't go wrong with any Disturbed song you choose - The Vengeful One, Indestructible, Ten Thousand Fists, Down with the Sickness, The Game, The Light, The Night, Prayer, My Child, Immortalized ... my personal favorite that doesn't get reacted to much is Torn. Or you could float another cover - The Land of Confusion (Genesis), If I Ever Lose My Faith In You (Sting), I Still Haven't Found What I Was Looking For (U2) (Listed as ISHFWILF in Disturbed's catalog). They're releasing a new album in 10 days ... 3 singles from it have already dropped: Hey You, Unstoppable, and Divisive (which is also the album name). You've opened Pandora's box ... Are You Ready? (Another great Disturbed song). If you're looking to stay on the softer side, Darkness and Hold Onto Memories are good starts.

I love how he hung the last Sounnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd for 5.22 seconds. Truly was a well done effort considering he was sick and he held it for about a second longer than the official music video version
David Draiman was sick when he sang this. He trained as a cantor and comes from a long line of cantors. I think that this version is better than the original .
While this band is good . If you want to listen to the goat , you need to check out Def Leppard's songs Animal , Armageddonit , Rocket , We Belong , Let's Go , Pour Some Sugar On Me , Love Bites , Hysteria , Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad , White Lighting , Stand Up Kick Love Into Motion . Just to name a few & keep in mind when you watch Pour Some Sugar On Me , Animal , Armageddonit , Rocket , Love Bites & Hysteria . All 6 singles were from their Hysteria album & all 6 singles were in the top 100 count & the lowest ranked single from the 6 of them was the title track from the album Hysteria . Which was ranked at #10 . Let me give you my opinion on why I think Def Leppard's the greatest band ever . Def Leppard formed in Sheffield England in 1977 , after a year their drummer left the band . They put an add in the local paper looking for a new drummer . Well a 15 year old kid named Rick Allen answered the add & auditioned for the band & there was something about him that just clicked with the rest of the band . So he became their new drummer . In 1984 Def Leppard put out their 4 album called Pyromania , it reached #2 in the world right behind Michael Jackson's Thriller . While on tour promoting the album Rick Allen went & bought a Corvette & had it shipped back to England . After a 9 month tour where they sometimes played 3 times a night . In December they went back home to England & started working on their next album . On December 31st 1984 , Rick Allen & his girlfriend at the time were driving in the Corvette & Rick Allen had a near fatal car wreck . His girlfriend was fine but Rick Allen was changed forever that day . Now the rest of the band could've replaced him & gone back to the studio & finished the album they were working on & went back on tour . But instead , even being the next big thing to Michael Jackson . The rest of the band at the time put their own careers on hold until Rick Allen could come back or Rick Allen himself would have to tell the rest of the band that he couldn't do it anymore & to replace him . But after 3 years , Rick Allen came back & their Hysteria album is one of the best selling albums of all time . If you want to see how the wreck changed Rick Allen , watch the videos . He's the greatest drummer ever .
This performance is nice. No doubt about it. Especially considering that the singer was sick, as I read in the comments. But if you haven't already done so, make sure to watch the studio version video. The video adds to the punch of the song and lyrics. This isn't always the case with song videos.
Here are a couple of great covers that are really worth checking out. Chris Cornell - "Nothing Compares 2 U" (Prince Cover) [Live @ SiriusXM] | Lithium Five Finger Dead Punch - "Blue On Black ft Kenny W. Shepherd (he is also the original artist), Brantley Gilbert & Brian May(70+ yr old guitar player from Queen)". Make sure the video has the features as there are 2 versions.
He was pissed when he saw the broadcast version of the performance. He didn't want any auto-tune or pitch correction but the network was worried about him being able to perform having the flu.

The Conan Show version is not the best. David was unwell and had a major sore throat at the time, and he did request they NOT use autotune, which is exactly what they did. I would've gone with any other version tbh, brother. Again, it only sounded vibrant due to the unnecessary autotune

@tkr66 either way he did a pretty damn good performance
He was really sick but pulled it off. He went back stage and cried when he saw the playback.🥰
David Draiman was a Hazen in training to Become a Cantor. He's classically trained. He had the flu and 102° fever on this show. He's the goat.
I love how the crowd stayed completely silent while his last note just hung in the air. I cry every time I hear their version.

Steve Perry and David Draiman... both super voices of all times...

Check out Hold on to memories. The official video not the live mix. 🤟
I love Disturbed! This was my first listen to them too. Awesome!
You really need to check out Hold on to Memories. Beautiful original. You won’t be disappointed. I am now officially a Disturbed fan.❤
This man can sing a sidhe out of hiding. What. A. Singer.
Performance of a lifetime done to perfection! ✌️👍🎤🔥😎

David Draiman was sick when he sang this. He trained as a cantor and comes from a long line of cantors. I think that this version is better than the original .
True, this is an amazing performance. However, I still have to go with the official video. It's stark and lonely and it punches you in the gut.

The video is great... but nothing compares to live, especially when the artist can actually sing...!!!

I subscribed. Excellent teaction.
David Draiman (the singer) s a trained Jewish Temple Cantor.
He can use his voice like an opera singer if he wants to.
Nobody can sing like David!

All of them are amazing! It's just for THIS song, David Draiman finally did this song justice for this day and age.
If you are in for acapella version try Pentatonix cover of this song. It's amazing. And their Bohemian Rhapsody cover is out of this world. 🙂
Sorry, David blew them out of the water.

Double check that. They used it once. David was upset because he didn't want them to use it even once
