Absolutely phenomenal!!! I really liked your reaction. Thanks for listening to it all the way through. So many people pause so often that I think they lose alot of the passion. I think some people can't handle the intense feels.
Dereck thank you for not interrupting the song. Too many reviewers pause and talk through the song. You don’t get to hear the song properly 👏 I love this song, I don’t even know how many times I’ve heard it, it still gives me the chills 👍
Growing up with the Simon & Garfunkel rendition, the words always held deep meaning, expressing the anguish my generation felt over civil rights, assassinations and the war. David uses his rich, powerful voice to pour out emotions in a way that floods my mind with sorrow, and chills my heart with fear for what the world around me has become.
I was a teen when this was first released by Simon and Garfunkel. I always thought that it was about the neon god sitting in the corner of every household, stopping speech and listening to others whilst glued to the box. David Draeman cries out his frustration at the fact that 60b years on no one heeded their warning, as can be seen on a daily basis everywhere you go with people having ear pieces in . stops conversation, and eyes down looking at the new neon god, the phone
This is a protest song from the 60's. This song is timeless!!! When the original was made, it was a warning to the country... maybe even the world as to what's going on... now it's a rage... how can we still be silent when you see what is going on.. this song brings me to tears and gives me goosebumps everytime!! EPIC!!!
It is interesting to hear different interpretations of the lyrics. My take on it is that it's about depression and the inability function or speak about one's feelings. Paul Simon, the writer suffers from Bipolar disorder, so it kind of makes sense to me, especially with his opening lyric "hello darkness my old friend".
I'm listening to this , and thinking of my late sister in law, who died five years ago today. I didn't even know she loved this song until recently. Now , I love it too. Dearest Jan, I wish we could have listened together. 💕💕
Everytime I listen to this song I cry, only because it touches in my spirit that hasnt been touched ever in my 67 years love this rendishin and it so reflects these troubling times this nation has faced. Blessings:
This is a "must" experience. The lyrics are so engaging and accessible; haunting and visual. But the way he uses his growl to emphasize the danger and anger the lyrics establish. Beautiful,
You said it!! He didn’t over-do…if anything he restrained himself But there ya go - you’re 1st to define that part - so many parts Beautiful - every instrument, his voice being the ultimate instrument Great review 👍😵💫🤯
I am a 10-year combat vet, and this version is an absolutely accurate version of the song and what the original had. Stunning, and a very deep place with the lyrics.
His voice reminds me of a folkloric character in Africa called the “town crier”, which is someone who speaks to the village when danger is coming. The town crier doesn’t scream, he doesn’t yell. The town crier just walks through the village speaking, and he has such a powerful hypnotic authoritative voice that people can’t help but to stop anything they’re doing and just listen to this commanding voice. It raises over any other voice. And it's the voice that the town would rise up to hear, as if they were being called by some powerful force that tunes their minds and souls and shuts down any other thought. That’s David Draiman. His voice is pure soul and will, powerful and with such authority. He means every word, and he makes you feel it in your guts. He touches your deepest strings as soon as he opens his mouth. You feel like you're being called. And this version is outstanding. They say you can listen to the original song as many times as you want, but you never hear the song until you hear this version, and that’s when you hear the song for the first time. And about the lyrics. To me it's about technology, TV then and now cellphones.
50 years of hearing this song and the lyrics have always been perfect. David was born to hear this song for his whole life so he could sing this for this current generation.
I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis ... Excellent ........ David Draiman's voice is epic. Regarding the lyrics, Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning. The Disturbed version is furious because the warning was ignored.
Hard to believe he had the flu during this performance...just two days prior he could barely speak.....though you can hear his voice crack a couple times it was still so amazing
I love watching the song being reviewed because it reminds me of the first time I heard it. I had the same response. I grew up with the original but this one, wow. I cannot hear it enough.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your reaction video - too many of these videos stop and start the song so many times that it is impossible to get the feeling that it emotes, but you felt like I did the first thousands times I listened to this version. I still get goosebumps listening to it, which I never did when Simon and Garfunkel sang it, he puts so much drama into it that you cannot help but get drawn into the song. I look at it as S&G were singing a warning to us and David showed anger that we hadn't listened to the warning. Once again, thank you for your reaction video xx
I’m speechless ! I don’t expecting something like that !! It’s perfection the arrangement . From te beginning at the end I’m totally emerged in the song so powerful 🔥🔥🔥 ( sorry for my English I’m French 😅) By the way I love your channel 👌🏼
I totally understand what you are saying. Their arrangement of this timeless classic is absolutely stunning. David Draiman's voice is so beautiful and powerful. He is classically trained. Before he became the lead vocalist of this band he was cantor. For what's it's worth your English is good. I am actually teaching myself how to speak French.
I loved your reaction somewhat similar to my own When your hand came up and danced with David I gotta tell you THAT was wonderful... goosebumps and tears!!! Now that I can breath I thought I should write to you that I’m old enough to be your grandmother I was around for the first version soft and sweet but still a ⚠️ warning David took it further and put it in you face now the choice is in your hands..... 🤯
Listening to the original is just not gonna do it this version takes it to a level that I don’t think any one else can reach. The emotion that he sings with and the way we are going in this country is perfect.
For me the song is a warning about technology. People talking without speaking ( texts emails..) people hearing without listening..( the whole internet) its the neon god we made.. its amazing what goes on while we sit in silence because we have been dehumanised by technology. It was true in the 70s and its more true now. Paul Simon was a visionary. The Irony is we all listen to his warnings on that technology and not dare to disturb the silence.
I have been a Disturbed fan for many years. I love metal and hard rock. I grew up listening to S&G, but Disturbed took it to another level. Love this band.
Wow! Amazing cover. And so relevant to why people are protesting. Beneath the anger and outrage, there is also anguish of not being heard...”People hearing without listening”
