How to Storm-Proof a Chateau

- How do you manage when you're home alone in a château and a storm rolls in? Amy takes you with her on her vital check-up of the château, birds and Marc's beloved plants in the midst of a storm.
In our 'Mini Chronicles' we show you bitesize pieces of family life in a medieval château renovation. This year we've found that trying to make progress with a massive renovation (10 buildings, some completely derelict), manage a 130 acre estate, build a viable business and nurture a growing toddler while attempting to film and edit all of this for UA-cam is quite ambitious for just the two of us. So while we'll continue to release longer videos that do justice to our biggest projects, they will not be regular. Instead we'll try to do Mini Chronicles more frequently. They won't be beautifully filmed or edited because doing that takes literally days of time that we don't have, but we hope that they make up for it with immediacy and frequency.
We could really do with both a boost at the moment and there are several things that you can do to help if you enjoy our videos:
1. Watch the adverts. (We don't choose them, the algorithm does. But this is how we get our income).
2. Subscribe to our channel (UA-cam is more likely to promote us if we have more followers).
3. Like and comment on our videos. (Even just an emoji! Also helps UA-cam know what to promote!)
4. Spread the word - send it to your friends and family!
5. Follow us on instagram and facebook (links below)
6. If you want to see more videos and be part of a lovely community, please join us on Patreon. The standard tier is 3.50 euros a month or its equivalent in your currency. We produce between four and six extra videos a month, plus other posts, and we really open up our hearts and home in a way we can't do in public.

Seeing the joy in Clement's face as he ran through the rain and splashed in the puddles flooded my mind with memories of myself at that age and how much I loved rainy days! BTW, I was stoked to see a floss silk tree, (they won't grow where I currently live) their blooms are awesome!

Clement giggling and laughing as he lurched down the gravel drive in the rain in his bright rain slicks!! It doesn't get any better than that for kids. Pepper had a grin a mile wide, but I did notice she was limping? I live on 6 acres and have a two-story American barn as a home and a smaller version for the workshop/double garage. We do the "storm protocol" too. Pipers River seems to get a lot of high wind cyclonic I would say, and heavy rain, and we have to go and do the post check and repairs! Nothing like your round though, not as many stairs or buildings or square footage. Loving these mini chronicle formats :)
Clement managed to stay upright even in a couple of slippery places. Good job. Our dog always stayed with our children too. Knew that wherever the dog came from, that's where they were. Gorgeous.
Finally we have rain in Northern California. Everyone is thrilled but of course in the fire areas there is now danger of flash flooding. My granddaughter who is six woke her dad up at 3am saying the sound of the rain was scary ⚡️

Pepper - My sisters both swear by something called a “thunder shirt” for their dogs in storms. It basically gives the dog a hug.

Beautiful day here in the sunshine state of Florida! We were watching your UA-cam channel last night, especially the ones with the chickens. They're absolutely gorgeous as we love farm animals ourselves. We had a five acre property a couple years ago, where my daughter had two Shetland ponies, a horse, chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese. So we know a little about farm animals. We also watch another UA-cam channel with a Chateau and they have chickens as well, just as much as you do and they have so many eggs, they don't know what to do with them! They showed when they were feeding the chickens, they gave them this brand of chicken feed called Country's Best. It has corn in it, so maybe corn is the answer to give you dozens of eggs, that you will have to sell them at the farmers market. Do not put the roosters with the hens in the chicken coop. Only put the rooster and the hens together in another coop if you want baby chicks. They have to be separate if you want baby chicks, not in the same coop with the hens laying the eggs. They give you more eggs when it's three or four females in the coop without the rooster, as they get too stressed out just like humans! Would love to know if our advice worked so we can buy some more chickens when we get some more room!

Not sure which room you came into from outside but it looked so bright and cheerful and homey. Marc on the roof and you in the attic…oh my.
It’s our kitchen! It’s a bit messy but very homely!
Amy, Mark and little Clement, we forgot to tell you to let the hens out in the daytime so they don't get stressed out being locked up and give you more eggs early in the morning, which is the time they usually lay the eggs because they know their owners will come around sunrise to collect the eggs. My husband said to mention to you, you must lay posts flat on the ground into the sand and make a tunnel in the ground and nail the barbwire to the post, because this is how prey gets into the coop, by digging the ground under the barbwire to get into the coop. I'm sure you don't want any more surprises to loose your birds. Solar lights are great too so your birds can see to fly higher to get away from their prey and so can help themselves from danger. Don't forget to save all your scraps from your kitchen, because those are also great vitamins for your chickens to give you healthy eggs. Chickens love table food and it's healthy for them the same way it is healthy for us.
