Of course he liked performing live when he did it. He just noticed it's hard to gather the band members, book the halls and rehearse the playlist with the band. So he enjoyed more gardening and studio work. Lennon was similar. So it's only Paul McCartney who's succeeded in performing thru' the years, more or less regurlarly, till to-day.
Look at Ravi Shankar looking at George...I remember him saying George was like a son to him. You can see it here. They know each other so well, consider each other family...there's an ease and a comfort in the way they sit side by side that always touched me. You've got to know not a day goes by that Ravi doesn't think of his "son" George. Not a day goes by that I don't remember him and miss him, and I never met him. But he helped me find my music. That's his legacy in my life.
I think George would've been completely happy if his entire post-Beatles career had been gardening and covering Dylan songs. Thankfully, he gave us more.
George was one of the greats no doubt, an absolutely brilliant musician, but nobody could do a Dylan song like Dylan. They were so tailor-made to Dylan's unique voice, timing, humor, creativity, inflections, everything.
I feel such gratitude to George. He inspired my own musical journey, and that means the world to me. Wonderful to see him with Ravi too - they spoke of each other as family and that seems somehow palpable to me in this video.
Such a great moment - love the interviewer's smile towards the end, as he looks at the other guests - thinking "Wow, what a moment, we have succeeded in getting George to play us a song! A lesson in how to contain delight!
This is precious to me. Thank you so much for posting it. It makes me yearn for George, which in itself is not unusual, but just more so. Love you, George, and miss you so.
I love and miss George so much. The Wilbury's survived the loss of Roy but when George passed it was the end. George was the heart and soul of the Wilbury's
With all deference to Bob, this is better than the original by a fair amount. Simple, spontaneous and sung with perfect pitch, both musically and philosophically. God love George, the best low-key superstar of all time.
Agreed. I've always thought that Harrison might have been the single best person out there to sing Dylan's songs. His voice is vaguely Dylan-esque, but much clearer and tuneful.
Look closely at the video and see where George is really happy with his music. A sweet transition that makes him smile. Very cool vid. Yeah he is missed and I love him still..
RIP George Harrison, one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Clapton said once that when he used to jam with George back in the day that george had just as much at playing the guitar as he was. George just didnt like to show off I guess....
I remember seeing this interview on MTV. It was amazing. He also plays All Things Must Pass. I believe it was shortly before his death, but to me he doesn't look sick here at all....
He was humble and he did not show off. He just played what he needed to and with great tone and technique. John and Paul let him in the group because he was a great lead guitar player and both of them could not play lead live. He could play so many styles and his slide guitar is amazing.
Is this from his last public interview/tv appearance? It's awfully good. He had just the kind of voice for this type of music. Pity he didn't sing it on the Wilbury album.
Waltzing around the room tonight In someone else's clothes You're always coming out of things Smelling like a rose You hang your head and your heart is filled With so much misery You'd be happy as you could be If you belonged to me You say, "Let's go to the rodeo And see some cowboy fall" Sometimes it seems to me you've Got no sympathy at all You keep on going on and on About how you're so free You'd be happy as you could be If you belonged to me It ain't easy to get to you But there must be some kind of a way If only two could look to you For only one moment of each day You're saying that you're all washed up Got nothing else to give Seems like you never figured out How long you have to live You could feel like a baby again Sitting on your daddy's knee Oh, how happy you would be If you belonged to me The guy you're with is a ruthless pimp Everybody knows Every cent he takes from you Goes straight up his nose You look so sad, you're going so mad Any fool can see You'd be happy as you could be If you belong to me You'd be happy as you could be If you belong to me
also if you can listen to the the album cd early takes volume song women dont you cry for me as an example just demos then you will hear his talent just him alone on the guitar.
also alot of beatles songs are way harder to play then you would think. the chordes and arraingements were very advanced and not simple at all that is why their fellow musicans looked up to them evev dylan said their chordes were outragious and george was the reason for that.even songs like i want to hold your hand were complex in the arraingements, not just simple chords.
For some reason, whenever any Wilbury performs live, they never do the songs that they sang lead on. But this is still beautiful, as is the Petty/Lynne version of Handle With Care.
also george had great tone and timing he just played the proper amount of notes as needed not too many or too few just the right recepie of lead guitar needed for the song. and added his own touch to many of the beatles greatest songs, without his guitar the songs would have not been the same, as paul said as an example george added the right notes in the song, I love her, to make it the song it is.the intro 4 notes but that makes the song. He could also play some mean string bends on abbey road
For someone who didn’t like performing live,
George was really great!

Every time I need a boost during the day I come back and watch this gem.
George is the first saint of the pop era. Thank you, man!
1:52 When he smiles and shrugs his shoulders right at the end gets me every time. Bless you Sweet George wherever your beautiful soul is.
I think George would've been completely happy if his entire post-Beatles career had been gardening and covering Dylan songs. Thankfully, he gave us more.
Except this isn't a Dylan song, George and Bob wrote it and Bob sang it on the TW LP.
John Boutet
Great point! I had forgotten this was a Wilburys song. Truth be told, those chord changes sound much more like George than Bob.
George was one of the greats no doubt, an absolutely brilliant musician, but nobody could do a Dylan song like Dylan. They were so tailor-made to Dylan's unique voice, timing, humor, creativity, inflections, everything.

Como tocaba esa guitarra por Dios!!! te extrañamos George!!!
just absolutely awesome......he was a master.....this song is so strong.
Such a great moment - love the interviewer's smile towards the end, as he looks at the other guests - thinking "Wow, what a moment, we have succeeded in getting George to play us a song! A lesson in how to contain delight!
@timjmoran George wrote it with Dylan for the Traveling Wilburys. Dylan takes the lead vocal on the album.
This is precious to me. Thank you so much for posting it. It makes me yearn for George, which in itself is not unusual, but just more so. Love you, George, and miss you so.
Marvellous. Thanks George ❤❤❤
Love this sooooo much. And love the way he shrugs his shoulders at 1.53 and flashes that grin of his. So George :)
beautiful and great.
this gentle spiritual man is In heaven smiling at all of us
My buddies and I adored the TW music. couldn't wait to grab the 2nd CD it couldn't be released soon enough for us. WHAT A TREASURE FIND
this is the only live version of a wilbury song that george ever sang, too bad he could not have done one of his songs, like Heading for the light.
I've heard him sing Congratulations before, I think it's on his UA-cam channel. It's one of the Remembering George videos
I love and miss George so much. The Wilbury's survived the loss of Roy but when George passed it was the end. George was the heart and soul of the Wilbury's

Genio, genio, genio!!!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Georgy!!! i love you so much!

It hurts only having 1:59 with George...

Como te amo. Graciaaaaaaaaas por todo lo que me dejaste. Ya prontito al aniversario...
RIP George Harrison, one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Clapton said once that when he used to jam with George back in the day that george had just as much at playing the guitar as he was. George just didnt like to show off I guess....
quite amazing lyrics!
Love George ,love this song and his playing
Great video - I’ve added it to my George Harrison Playlist.
God loves us. Proof? George was here.
Holy shit,it's been nearly 10 years. Felt like he passed on today. RIP Harrison
20 years, time flies bud
George Harrison as Lynn and Petty said, a great man!
I'm watching this in 2018 and still loving George harrisons music
Love you George! Peace & LOVE!
I love this song.
I remember seeing this interview on MTV. It was amazing. He also plays All Things Must Pass. I believe it was shortly before his death, but to me he doesn't look sick here at all....
A treasure.
He is very much sadly missed.. in every regard..
He was humble and he did not show off. He just played what he needed to and with great tone and technique. John and Paul let him in the group because he was a great lead guitar player and both of them could not play lead live. He could play so many styles and his slide guitar is amazing.
I'm not sure I agree that they couldn't play lead live. Lol.
goosebumps
Good bye George
Happy birthday George x
LOVELY
Very exciting to hear George singing and playing this song live. Where does that voice come from? Thank you very much George Harrison!
Also watch the video of george playing till there was you live then you will see even as a young man he was a polished guitar man.
charming , lovely ,lgeorge was on this with ravi, /love both, ,
Is this from his last public interview/tv appearance? It's awfully good. He had just the kind of voice for this type of music. Pity he didn't sing it on the Wilbury album.
We love you and miss you, George. Hare Krishna.
The shot of GH at 1:40 to 1:49 looks like a younger Harrison , like from the Abbey Road era.
Loui !!! Great observation, my friend.
Love George. Hare Krishna
george should have sung that song he does a great rendition
Magia
Wow. I love this song. Did George write it? I assumed it was Dylan who wrote it because he sang in on the Wilburys Album.
It was in 1997. So about 4 years? I believe this is around when he was first diagnosed with cancer.
Exactly
I've always wondered why George haven't done any "Mtv Unplugged" or "VH1 Storytellers". Most of his songs would fit perfectly
So Glad his last performance was Not a Beatle song.Be Here Now!
Waltzing around the room tonight
In someone else's clothes
You're always coming out of things
Smelling like a rose
You hang your head and your heart is filled
With so much misery
You'd be happy as you could be
If you belonged to me
You say, "Let's go to the rodeo
And see some cowboy fall"
Sometimes it seems to me you've
Got no sympathy at all
You keep on going on and on
About how you're so free
You'd be happy as you could be
If you belonged to me
It ain't easy to get to you
But there must be some kind of a way
If only two could look to you
For only one moment of each day
You're saying that you're all washed up
Got nothing else to give
Seems like you never figured out
How long you have to live
You could feel like a baby again
Sitting on your daddy's knee
Oh, how happy you would be
If you belonged to me
The guy you're with is a ruthless pimp
Everybody knows
Every cent he takes from you
Goes straight up his nose
You look so sad, you're going so mad
Any fool can see
You'd be happy as you could be
If you belong to me
You'd be happy as you could be
If you belong to me
It has the same melody as Dylan's If You See Her, Say Hello
also if you can listen to the the album cd early takes volume song women dont you cry for me as an example just demos then you will hear his talent just him alone on the guitar.
This Was Originally A Bob Dylan Song For The Traveling Wilburys
Gone WAY Too Soon! :(

@LanakilaIesu i love George ! Id love to hear the music he inspired.... you have an FB page?
великий Битл
Capo 5th: G, C, G,C,D,Em,Em7...He lost me.
man.. tell me this doesn't sound like some long-lost Dylan tune...
Doesn;t this Wilbury song sound So much cleaner and sweeter with George on lead...not grumpy ole Bob lol
Just listened to the Wilbury version again; it's like Dylan wasn't even trying and probably gave up after the first take.
yeah not bad
soy bobo
back when vh1 had something to do with music
Love this song.
