George Harrison - "Johnny B. Goode" - live 1986

A very rare appearance by George Harrison at a 1986 charity concert. George plays the concert finale with the likes of ELO, The Moody Blues, and many others. George had not been on the stage in several years, and unfortunately, he forgets the lyrics on the 3rd verse to this classic Chuck Berry tune. Watch for George saying something to Denny Laine (Wings/The Moody Blues) as the song starts, as it appears he tells Denny he may have forgotten the words. A classic, unrehearsed live moment! Also watch for Robert Plant (in a rare early appearance where he has a guitar) to take a verse.

agreed. this what rock n roll should be. a bunch of class musicians playing music and having fun and raising some money while at least putting their money where their mouth is. i always felt that a lot of the british musicians in those days all made it big but never forgot where they came from and still go to their local pubs to chat with regular people and go to a football stadium to watch their favorite team. that's what life should be. not worry about whether your next album goes gold or platinum or how many suckers you convince to download your music in an hour so you can make a lot of money. that's wrong with today's bands/singers, they lack humility.

The lyrics that were missed was the 2nd verse. Which is common with this song, especially on any kind of all star jam like this. Everyone knows the 1st verse and almost always the last. The 2nd verse is the one that is the most forgotten : "He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack, Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track. Engineers used to see him sittin' in the shade, strummin' with the rhythm that the drivers made. The people passin' by they would stop and say, oh my but that little country boy can play... Go Johnny Go Go..etc"

That guitar intro is note for note the intro to the original record, so that'll be Dave Edmunds doing it.
I read an interview with Dave Edmunds in one of the 'inkies' back in the 70's (NME, I think, or possibly or Melody Maker) which I still have somewhere, where he said he'd really studied Chuck's songs, and had noticed the intros were subtly different, and had learned each one of them. Then, when he saw him at a gig for the first time, he was shocked that he just played any old intro, not the ones on the record!
