I LOVE REO - my fav band - but I hate people who talk about anti-war - as if ANYONE wants war - but sometimes it is unavoidable - should we have not gone to war after dec 7 1941. Again, anti-war - I just hate people making such a ridiculous simplistic statement like it is all so simple - "oh, I have an idea - how about world peace and no war" - wow what a thought, wonder why no one thought of it before
Thankful to God, we dodged a bullet here in Baton Rouge, La. I met the band, while I lived on Riverside Ave (also another rocking REO song) Really. It was a small after party, after they played here during "The Keep on Loving You Tour." They were the finest, kindest, nicest, rock- n roll- stars, ever. They are as nice as they are talented.

Jamel, I'm begging you. While you're doing REO you have to do the extremely socially conscious "Golden Country". I can't emphasize enough how much you will be blown away by the lyrics and music. It's powerful!
They were a super live group - I went to 6 or 7 of their concerts back in the late 70s and early 80s. Gary Richrath was one of the most underrated lead guitars ever
I know I'm late to this reaction, but I was THERE! I was 17. The show was at McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, CO. It was AMAZING! The crowd of 18K NEVER sat down and rocked and sang along the whole concert. Very Intense! The song itself "Ridin' the Storm Out" was written about the band earlier in their history when they got stuck in a winter storm in the mountains outside of Boulder, CO, so the crowd was REALLY diggin' it. Nice reaction and thank you!
R.I.P Gary Richrath. He is just shredding on this song! REO Speedwagon may of had some big pop hits and ballads but they could still rock their asses off when they wanted to!
REO played at the Wisconsin State Fair. The show was slightly delayed because of thunderstorms. They opened with this song. Lightning strikes flashing in the distance. Fabulous concert.
We did see REO in Kansas City several times.. one in particular was an outdoor show and A super cell thunderstorm rolled through (funnel clouds and the works)... Stadium crew tried a few times to shut the show down , but Kevin Cronin refused to stop and when this Song started the whole stadium went insane.... everyone was drenched, but safe!!!... special night and respect for the band that did indeed Ride the Storm Out with 30,000 hard core fans!!!!
This the REO Speedwagon I listened to. The live album, You Get What You Paid For I think was there best stuff. I saw them in the 70's and once in the 80's. But they went from hard rock to soft rock .
The BEST "Golden Country" is from their 1979 concert on Rockpalast (German TV show). A couple versions are on YT, including one subtitled "Gary Eats Frets", lol. But yeah, Gary always brought it on that one.

Took their name from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck that was designed by Ransom Eli Olds...saw these guys in the 70's in Billings Montana...this song started and when "Rocky Mountain winter" was sung....the whole Arena erupted in unison! Magical...Rock On
Saw REO many times - last time was special. About 7 years ago they played for a tornado benefit concert in central Illinois, where they came from. Gary Richrath, the lead guitar player in this video, was the original guitar player and a founding member of the band. He had left the band and there had been bad feelings for years. Decades. He rejoined them for the first time that night on this song and just tore it up. He was having significant health problems but played amazingly. Sadly, he died just a few months or so after that concert. I was so glad I got to see him again! Great song!

I have forgotten how many times I have seen REO Speedwagon in concert, but the best was at the historic Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa. It's a smaller venue, but groups that draw big crowds still want to play it. They ended the show with this beauty, and the capacity standing room only crowd was howling so loudly for this song, you couldn't hear Kevin introduce it. OMG! It was like an earthquake in there!
Time for Me to Fly and Rolling with the Changes are my favorite. I remember laying it over and over when i was 15. On their album you can tune a piano but you can't tune a fish.
I wasn't at this concert, but I grew up with REO. I'm from Indiana, and back in the 70s REO was a local bar band out of Illinois. Saw them several times at local venues, then was able to take my wife to see them a few years ago. Love this song!
Their best album was Live: You Get What You Play For, other good songs on that album were Golden Country, Keep Pushin', Music Man, ( I Believe ) our Time Is Gonna Come. Gary Richrath ( R I P ) was a BEAST on guitar !
Didn't see this concert live but did see them 3 times in 5 days in 1996. On a Saturday in Kansas City and Sunday in St Louis and the following Wednesday in Des Moines and a total of 6 times that year. Have seen them at least a dozen times since. They're still rocking today and always put on a hell of a live show. Their music is the sound track of my life. Incredible band, Incredible music. Play on R.E.O. and always Keep Pushin and Roll With The Changes.
@@garylindsey5174 There were a few other group's and artists that went to the OTHERSIDE. If only they stayed true to their roots, we may still have GREAT Music coming out today. Nirvana and Grunge were the follow up to the demise of our ROCK AN ROLL with Disco. The downhill slide began and Rock became a cash cow and little new progression was the result. Cleveland Born and Bred. Sorta have a little knowledge on R&R.
I grew up in central Illinois and was a child of the 70's and 80's. I've seen REO so many times and they always give a great show. Fun fact: the first date I had with my now wife was in Peoria, IL at a REO concert.
Saw them in the early 80’s in Hermitage TN (floating stage). The last song was Riding the Storm Out. It came a downpour (rain) and sent everyone running to their cars! They just kept jamming,
I love the song 157 Riverside Ave. Gary makes that guitar talk. Also Roll with the Changes. I dedicated this song to my kids for their future life journey.
Saw REO Speedwagon sing this song in a downpour during a thunder AND Lightening storm in KC Arrowhead Stadium..... the stadium was packed and they had packed more in standing on the field this freak summer storm came through they played while the lightening danced in the sky....it was soooooooooooo freakin' COOL..........the storm lasted about 20 minutes....and the bands never stopped....the stage was almost a swamp!!!!!!!!........
Talk about a *"WALL OF SOUND"* ... How I fondly remember going to their concerts from the mid-1970s to the early Eighties. All were awesome every time.
This song was originally recorded way back in 72. The album had a a different singer on it, thought you can find demo versions of Kevin (singer) doing it too.
got to see them in the early 90's, at saratoga performing art center, near rochester ny. .pat benetar opened for orleans who opened for fleetwood mac, who opened for reo. what a show!! had front row seats inside a half shell, at the bottom of a hill full of lawn seats. an actual storm rolled in when reo was playing, and security just stepped aside when a mass influx of people came down the hill for shelter, as REO did this tune. Awesome experence
Ok, if you liked this you need to listen to the legendary last song of the night. Head East, Never Been Any Reason. They closed the bars with this last song of the night right here.
My boyfriend invited me to REO’s concert when I was a teen. He canceled and told me he wasn’t going, then the m f came to school with their concert tee shirt on. Still mad about that. Lol
Not this specific concert, but I was at one of the other stops on the release tour.... they blew everyone away!!! This is one of the 'staples' of my late teenage years... There were so many great songs from REO from that era and before.
you have to do the live version of “157 Avenue, “and “keep pushing” and “ Back on the road again “ for sure. The bass player sings back on the road again however and he does a good job. I like the earlier stuff before they got real pop into the ballads and stuff in 1981 . That’s where they kind of gave in more to the record industry and their stuff lost a lot of the rocking edge that they had through the 70s so as you see here with riding the storm out there older the material was more like that. Great choice picking the live version of riding the storm out Jamal 👍 Love your reactions brother!!
The first time I heard REO live, playing Ridin The Storm Out, was on a cold winter night in early 1974 at the historical Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The Surf was packed to the rafters with high school and college kids. This is the same venue where Buddy Holly played his last concert on 2/3/59. Holly, Richie Valens, and "The Big Bopper" J. P. Richardson, died shortly after the concert in a plane crash just outside of Clear Lake. The pilot, Roger Peterson also perished in the crash. This event later became known as "The Day the Music Died" by singer/songwriter Don McLean.
I saw REO in 1980 at the summer jam in Louisville, Ky, they opened for Bob Seger, it was a fantastic concert. You have to react to 157 Riverside Ave. and Golden Country...PLEASE!!!
REO Speedwagon Lyrics "Ridin' The Storm Out" Ridin' the storm out, waitin' for the thaw out On a full moon night in the Rocky Mountain winter. My wine bottle's low, watching for the snow I've been thinking lately of what I'm missing in the city. And I'm not missing a thing Watchin' the full moon crossing the range Ridin' the storm out Ridin' the storm out. My lady's beside me, she's there to guide me. She says that alone we've finally found home. The wind outside is frightening, but it's kinder than the lightning life in the city. It's a hard life to live but it gives back what you give.
I attended the REI Speedwagon show at Soldiers Field in Chicago's Superbowl of Rock 1977. 5 bands who were on that ticket were ( Journey before Steve Perry was their lead singer, 38 Special, REOSpeedwagon, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Ted Nugent.) REOSpeedwagon was absolutely incredible. What you really need to hear is their 76 LIVE version ( You Get What You Play For.) Their absolute best Concert version of "157 Riverside Avenue" followed up with " Riding The Storm Out." Those two tunes set that place on fire that day, with their high powered Boogie, and set the pace for the rest of the afternoon.
an argument I've had with my best friend for many years....he loves this version where I feel the studio version is far superior....but both are REO so it's really a moot point,I guess LOL
I got to see them May 28, 1981 in Phoenix, it was my first ever concert and to this day, that nights version of 157 Riverside Avenue stands out. I have seen them 2 more times since. They put on a great show.
I had the chance to go see REO Speedwagon free with a record executive one night many years ago. The same night, I was invited by another recording representative to see Joan Armatrading live at a place in Denver called Ebbetts Field. I opted for Joan a n never regretted it. No film that I know of exists for that concert, but her song "Tall In The Saddle " at Rockpalast is excellent!!!
I was at a summer jam in KC back in 79 or 80 at Royal's stadium, and it stormed like a mother. REO came out and played this song. The place went Crazy!!!
This is not the good live version. The good one is off the 1976 live album “ you get what you play for”. Great rock album better version . Smaller venue not as famous all that and ratatatat.... lol
REO used to be a blast to see live!! Everything was better in the 70's, Jamel. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Actually I was backstage once to interview the band for a high school page in the local paper. They were great, treated a young hippy very well/plus I got to see them several times back in the day........ALWAYS a killer concert!
I wasn't at this exact show but I did see them. As matter of fact, REO was the first concert I went to, I was 16 years old in '78 when I saw them... great start to my concert going 'career'! They were high energy from start to finish. Brought back great memories, thanks!
The song is actually from 1973 IIRC. It’s one of their more straight -rock oriented songs. I didn’t see this concert, but I saw them in 1989 at the Champlain Valley Fair near Burlington, Vermont. They kicked butt for over 15,000 people! Awesome band. 😊

Now that's what I'm talking bout! This is what put them on the map. Those mushy songs just made them rich, lol.
Yes sir!
How they closed Every Concert!
Agree, Like STYX they went SOFT on us!
@@amrak5028 Hate it when it does that lol
@@garylindsey5174 There were a few other group's and artists that went to the OTHERSIDE. If only they stayed true to their roots, we may still have GREAT Music coming out today. Nirvana and Grunge were the follow up to the demise of our ROCK AN ROLL with Disco. The downhill slide began and Rock became a cash cow and little new progression was the result. Cleveland Born and Bred. Sorta have a little knowledge on R&R.
@@amrak5028 I'm 57 and when I was 7 I was listening to groups like Free, The Who, Humble Pie, The Stones so I know a little myself lol
I grew up in central Illinois and was a child of the 70's and 80's. I've seen REO so many times and they always give a great show. Fun fact: the first date I had with my now wife was in Peoria, IL at a REO concert.
I grew up hearing this song at home occasionally. I never knew it was REO until right now though.
Was not at this concert, but did see REO probably 14, maybe 15 or 16 times over the years? ALWAYS an amazing show! RIP, Gary Richrath.
Saw them in the early 80’s in Hermitage TN (floating stage). The last song was Riding the Storm Out. It came a downpour (rain) and sent everyone running to their cars! They just kept jamming,
Hey Wayne, I from Hickman County. Are you related to the Sullivan's of Williamson County?
@@timparker8979 Related to the Sullivan’s from Centerville / Hickman Co.
I love the song 157 Riverside Ave. Gary makes that guitar talk. Also Roll with the Changes. I dedicated this song to my kids for their future life journey.
This song goes back to 1973, but I feel the best version is on 1977's "Live: You get what you play for"...which is my favorite album of theirs.
Agreed
Saw REO Speedwagon sing this song in a downpour during a thunder AND Lightening storm in KC Arrowhead Stadium..... the stadium was packed and they had packed more in standing on the field this freak summer storm came through they played while the lightening danced in the sky....it was soooooooooooo freakin' COOL..........the storm lasted about 20 minutes....and the bands never stopped....the stage was almost a swamp!!!!!!!!........
This song is played on the “Himalaya” ride at the carnivals. Loud and rockin’!
Oh yeah, I remember that.
You got that right. Reminded me of that. Seaside Park they played this song on the Gravitron Ride. Before Storm Sandy took it out.
Thank you. I was just trying to remember what ride it was.
Your right! That's cool.
I remember that version. Glad I wasn't dreaming!
REO SPEEDWAGON deepcut must=Golden County from You Get What You Play For live album. Omg.
This song is always played as the Encore every time I seen them
got to see them in the early 90's, at saratoga performing art center, near rochester ny. .pat benetar opened for orleans who opened for fleetwood mac, who opened for reo. what a show!! had front row seats inside a half shell, at the bottom of a hill full of lawn seats. an actual storm rolled in when reo was playing, and security just stepped aside when a mass influx of people came down the hill for shelter, as REO did this tune. Awesome experence
Ok, if you liked this you need to listen to the legendary last song of the night. Head East, Never Been Any Reason. They closed the bars with this last song of the night right here.

Champaign represent!!
Gawd, that takes me back a few years! From the album, "Flat as a Pancake!" Killer song!
Keep Pushin', Roll With The Changes, Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight, Only The Strong Survive and 157 Riverside Avenue
My boyfriend invited me to REO’s concert when I was a teen. He canceled and told me he wasn’t going, then the m f came to school with their concert tee shirt on. Still mad about that. Lol
Damn, that had to hurt.
I like Jamal too. My favorite was when he saw meat Loaf for the first time. That killed me. Very entertaining. Loved it. RIP.
MEAT LOAF
REO Speedwagon Lyrics
"Ridin' The Storm Out"
Ridin' the storm out, waitin' for the thaw out
On a full moon night in the Rocky Mountain winter.
My wine bottle's low, watching for the snow
I've been thinking lately of what I'm missing in the city.
And I'm not missing a thing
Watchin' the full moon crossing the range
Ridin' the storm out
Ridin' the storm out.
My lady's beside me, she's there to guide me.
She says that alone we've finally found home.
The wind outside is frightening,
but it's kinder than the lightning life in the city.
It's a hard life to live but it gives back what you give.
Golden Country...REO
I seen them, not at that one, but in Jacksonville. Rocking!!!!!!!! Was very young, snuck out. Would have my you know whooped.
I attended the REI Speedwagon show at Soldiers Field in Chicago's Superbowl of Rock 1977.
5 bands who were on that ticket were ( Journey before Steve Perry was their lead singer, 38 Special, REOSpeedwagon, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Ted Nugent.)
REOSpeedwagon was absolutely incredible. What you really need to hear is their 76 LIVE version ( You Get What You Play For.)
Their absolute best Concert version of "157 Riverside Avenue" followed up with " Riding The Storm Out." Those two tunes set that place on fire that day, with their high powered Boogie, and set the pace for the rest of the afternoon.
an argument I've had with my best friend for many years....he loves this version where I feel the studio version is far superior....but both are REO so it's really a moot point,I guess LOL
Studio version is better. Agreed.
Should've done the studio version instead.
the correct live version is best....this isn't it.....
The studio version was sung by Michael "Mike" Murphy when it first came out. I still have the album.
I like the studio version better as well. But to see them do this live? Just WOW
Being a trucker, gots to have me some "Back On The Road Again" appreciate ya keepin the 70's alive!
React to the song
Roll With the Changes by REO
Such a fun song
Gary Richrath was one of those pure rock lead guitarists. He was an absolute joy to watch and listen to. One of my favs.
I’ve seen them in concert 10 times, check out their song 157 Riverside Ave.
The live version.....
REO's "Roll With The Changes" has to be one of the greatest rock jam anthems of all-time. Wait til' you hear this, Jamel! I'll leave it at that.
Ayyy these guys are from my hometown.
I don't know if you ever met them, but I did in my hometown, Baton Rouge, LA.. They are as nice as they are talented.😊👍
Wasn't at this particular concert but went to several REO concerts. They were always awesome especially live some of the best rock ever!
R E O Speedwagon- TOUGH GUYS!
I got to see them May 28, 1981 in Phoenix, it was my first ever concert and to this day, that nights version of 157 Riverside Avenue stands out. I have seen them 2 more times since. They put on a great show.
SPEEDWAGON to me is a hybrid of BOSTON and AIR SUPPLY.
Hey!.. there's an idea.
Do some AIR SUPPLY
I had the chance to go see REO Speedwagon free with a record executive one night many years ago. The same night, I was invited by another recording representative to see Joan Armatrading live at a place in Denver called Ebbetts Field. I opted for Joan a n never regretted it. No film that I know of exists for that concert, but her song "Tall In The Saddle " at Rockpalast is excellent!!!
""""" CHEAP TRICK"""" CHEAP TRICK """" ""' SURRENDER """" ++++++++++++++++++ many others !!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Cheap Trick. Bun E Carlos looks like he should be an accountant not a drummer
I was at a summer jam in KC back in 79 or 80 at Royal's stadium, and it stormed like a mother. REO came out and played this song. The place went Crazy!!!
This is not the good live version. The good one is off the 1976 live album “ you get what you play for”. Great rock album better version . Smaller venue not as famous all that and ratatatat.... lol
Agreed
Thank you for finally doing this song. Love them like this, ballads are fine every once in a while: but sometimes you just gotta jam.
Golden country by REO. A song about how rich this country is. And this was in the 70s, a must
REO used to be a blast to see live!!
