They just don't make authentic bands like this anymore. You can tell he's struggling on vocals here (possibly from the strain of touring) but even tuned a half step down ... his worst night live is still better than 75% of the artists out today.... 40yrs later
I love the fact that Wolfman let them perform this 100% live on his show. They sounded incredible, but you are right, Kevin looked tired, like he was a bit worn out- but still put on an amazing performance.
If you ever watch Kevin do interviews, and by the way that he sings, he would've made a really charismatic evangelist. He just has that magnetic personality.

REO Speedwagon was one of the best bands of the seventies. This is from 1978. It's from the album, You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish...They became more popular in the eighties after they softened their sound....
The way you feel about lyrics is the way I feel about guitar solos. They can pull at your heart. I listen to music constantly. I think as a person who once briefly played, I had more drive than talent, and due to an accident I had diving into a pool when I was 15 and resulted in me being in a wheelchair, this longing to play and express myself has never left me. It's been 32 years and still I dream of playing. Over the course of my life I've had to endure various surgeries, and the anesthesia can have funny effects on you. I've always prided myself on being a resilient person and not letting whatever my inward struggles show outwardly as I believe life is a lot of suffering as well as happiness, and we just have to bear whatever cards we are given while having some dignity too. But anyway, the anesthesia from one of my later surgeries kind of stripped that emotional wall away, not by my choice, and I just find some guitar playing or profound songs of my youth bring me to tears. I find it hard to deal with as I can't hold it back if I wanted to, and part of me finds it embarrassing. I unfortunately discovered Gary Moore late in life. His playing has so much soul, and so much pain. Listen to this live version of Parisienne Walkways and tell us what you think. This song truly transports me away and the solo just yanks at my heart strings. ua-cam.com/video/vkUpfw4Hf3w/v-deo.html
REO has been around a long time, 1967 - Present? Their big hits were late 70's to late 80's. I like their 2nd album in 1972 R.E.O./T.W.O which had "Like You Do" & "Golden Country". In 1973 they had a big hit with "Ridin' The Storm Out".

I worked at an REO concert about 25 years ago. I'm a big proponent of if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Foreigner and Peter Frampton were on that tour, and the guys in those bands and their crew were absolutely the nicest people you'd ever want to meet (hung out with Lou Gramm and Peter Frampton, super nice people). They didn't scream at or throw bottles of water at anyone. Not even any name calling. Class acts.
My wife and i saw three bands before we were married, Rush, Kansas and REO Speedwagon. REO became our band, that was in 1980. A few years later I went in the Army and after living off base for a couple of years in a trailer with my wife and two small boys we weren't making it financially. She left with the boys for the last 10 months of my enlistment as we were going to be spending time at NTC and then Germany. During one field exercise I was having a bad time and considered going AWOL. One thing saved me, REO Speedwagon's song I Can't Fight This Feeling. It reminded me of what I was really fighting for. That was July 1985 and I took terminal leave in late October. In a bizarre coincidence that Christmas my wife and I were at the Mall shopping when who did we run Into but Kevin Cronin. This song was playing as I drove away from Savannah when I moved back to Ohio in 1991. I lived there for a year after I graduated from college and did a lot of growing up. This is a special song for me.
I saw these guys on the AXSTV concert series. REO Speedwagon has been in the business for decades; if it weren't for the gray hair, you'd never know it. The band is still tight and Kevin Cronin's voice, strong as ever.
Jamal, please do "Golden Country". It's now the most relevant to our present nightmare situation in America. That was mid seventies, and things are only worse
Wolfman Jack introducedthe group, the dude was a legend. Probably the first National rock DJ. Thats where we would hear new music each week. We had no idea at the time how epic 80s would become.
REO was and still is a great bands, one of my favorite bands! Grow up and still live in the area were there from. Still to this day when they come to town 20 thousand people show up! Thanks for making my day!
I had the privilege to meet and talk to Kevin Cronin on one of my flights in the late 90's. Incredibly nice man, very personable, very receptive to this fan. We talked about a lot of my favorite songs of the band's, including I Do'Wanna Know (hint, hint). Really glad you're finally doing R. E. O. (note the periods and spaces between the letters) Speedwagon.

So...this is how old I am, Jamel...I left home for a small town in 1976. When Compact Disc players finally arrived in this town I had my name on the list for one at the ONLY place in town that sold them and any other home stereo stuff. I got the second one. Was so excited. Then I went to the only place in town that sold records. I had a list of about 5 CD's I was gonna buy. Now, there were 18 20 bucks a piece back then. Big $ for a kid going to college and working at a gas station, but it was music, ya know? and the new cool deal, right? The store had a rack of about 50 CDs in stock....25 copies of Pink Floyd The Wall...and 25 copies of REO Speedwagon Wheels Are Turnin'. That is all. Store guy says we have more on the way...I asked when, he said soon...ya....soon was about 3 months. So I bought one of each, and drove a hundred miles the next weekend to the city to buy 3 more. Sounds crazy now, but I did it. That CD player lasted about 2 years and then quit. It was made by Sharp. As in not so...LOL.
It's R - E- O Speedwagon this is my favorite song of theirs. I got my eagle tattoo because of this song after leaving an abusive relationship. I really like how you get the lyrics and break it down. Your the best reaction channel for music. I can tell you really enjoy it.
"Say you love me or say goodnight","Lucky For You", "Roll with the changes", "In Your Letter", Wheels Are Turnin', "Rock N Roll Star", "Tough Guys", and "157 Riverside Avenue"
I haven't thought about Tough Guy in forever! God that was such fun to dance to! And which song was The Little Rascals preface about the He Man Women Hater Club?
Jamal, I love your idea and insight. This is a compelling channel and commentary on new music to you. I am a life long music/REO fan and I love this. Nothing more genuine than discovering new art and letting it sink in. Keep on, brother.
Jamal, this was in 1978. Their first album was in 1971 and even though there's been membership changes, they have never disbanded and called it quits. They are still touring and putting on great concerts to this day.
Forgot how good this song is. This is one reason I love this channel, memories just flood back. When I was thinking it was time to leave my marriage. Only so much you can take.
Yo brother.... react to “Driven to Tears” By The Police ft Robert Downey Jr lol. It’s a live performance but wait until you hear Iron Man Tony Stark sing!!!
I often hear you speak of the emotion of a broken heart and how you appreciate song writers expressing these feelings and emotions. I strongly suggest you do a reaction to Peter Gabriel and Love To Be Loved. I think you'll really appreciate it. Gabriel was a founding member of Genesis and is as good, arguably better, than Phil Collins.
Seen REO live about 10 years ago with my then 15 yr old son. He was not happy I brought him to an old people group They were with Styx . At the end of the concert he said those old people can sing. He even caught a drum stick from REO speedwagon drummer .
I saw them live many times. They were incredible. Played on forever with many encores. All for the fans.
This is hitting me really hard. After 31 years of dedication, I was cheated on and left. Thanks for the summary and clarity Jamel!

Kevin Cronin is a great songwriter and performer. Glad you finally got to these guys. REO Speedwagon is still one of my favorite bands.
just the sound brings back warm summer nights fly'n down the lake road back to the house from a day of sail'n fish'n and swim'n to an eve of music, food, friends and fun . . . how i miss those days
These REO songs sure bring back the memories of the late 70's and early 80's at the High school dances. Used to be a great chick song.
👍❤✌🎼🎵🎸🎧
Music is poetry and poetry is lyrical, and rhythmic. They belong together.
in 1980s could not get enough of these guys.
Kevin's hair here is the bomb...... REO, as always, tugging at them heart strings
You have got to do "Take it on the run" if you're gonna do Reo Speedwagon. To me, it is by far their best song
Video for that song has already been posted about 20+ minutes ago
Facts!
Nope. Ride out the storm. Good song none the less.
@@MrBigChin1 at the time I posted this, it hadn't. But thanks, I see it now
@@ericfountain4656 awesome. I wanted to make sure you saw it.
Mr. Jamel, there's a song by Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry called Don't Fight It. I know you will enjoy it
This song was playing as I drove away from Savannah when I moved back to Ohio in 1991.
Try "Ridin the Storm out! Its awesome. So is "Don't Let Him Go"
Legends...especially in concert.80’s all the way...
Dig deep early 70s Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo best ever and golden country live
This is the most REO Speedwagon I've willingly listened to in a row in my entire life 😂 You're doing something right brother keep it up!
Need to listen to some Cheap Trick!
Yes he is... Love this band
Wolfman Jack introducedthe group, the dude was a legend. Probably the first National rock DJ. Thats where we would hear new music each week.
We had no idea at the time how epic 80s would become.
The guitar player to his left is Gary Richrath, one of the best guitar players ever! Never got the praise and accolades he deserved!!! R.I.P. GARY!!!
Can we ever just enjoy REO music without you Gary freaks commenting on every video. Your hero died a big fat alcoholic drug addict.
Pete Gabriel - "Biko" .... video sent to instagram DM!
Mary, YES!!! Great great song. Loved Joan Baez cover of the song too. ❤️
These guys were HUGE back in the day. We can all relate to heart break and they told the story for all of us who had been hurt but were ready move on. Great reaction to another great band
Saw them live, about 5 times !Always a great show, Singer Kevin Cronin runs a tight ship on stage ,sounds amazing!
Just gotta watch for the last song tho, its almost always their song .Riding the storm out! A great song....but if u are at a outside venue...better head for the car...20 minutes before...you can see lightning off in the distance.
I guess u could say....it's time for me to fly! Lmao
Niiiiice
Awesome story! 👍
Love 157 Riverside Avenue!
I haven't thought about Tough Guy in forever! God that was such fun to dance to! And which song was The Little Rascals preface about the He Man Women Hater Club?
I definitely like this song better than the others.
Jamal, I love your idea and insight. This is a compelling channel and commentary on new music to you. I am a life long music/REO fan and I love this. Nothing more genuine than discovering new art and letting it sink in. Keep on, brother.
Got to see REO SPEEDWAGON IN CONCERT,IN NASHVILLE, THEY WERE FANTASTIC!!!!! ONE OF FAVOURITE BANDS
Saw them with Def Leppard a couple years ago, they were amazing, stole the show
It’s interesting that he’s playing his acoustic with his thumb in an alternate tuning.
He looks like a non-guitarist playing a guitarist for one song. :-) Oh well... when you can sing like that, you can get away with a lot.
I've seen him talk about why he does it, I forget the story, but I'm sure it's on you tube...
Gold .....$$$$$$....this is REO at their best.
Late 70's early 80's. They were a band ahead of its time.
How about "Mother, Father" by Journey. Please! Perry's best vocals-Live in Houston
I've been asking for this forever. The last 30 secs of Steve Perry's falsetto will blow his mind. We need this reaction!
Amazing suggestion
@@metalmcfly7312 me too
@@metalmcfly7312 It was amazing!!!
Steve Perry was not playing!!! Beautiful vocals on that song
Next: Ridin the Storm Out.
R.E.O. Speedwagon.
Jamal, this was in 1978.
Their first album was in 1971
and even though there's been
membership changes, they have
never disbanded and called it quits.
They are still touring and putting on
great concerts to this day.
AWESOME Video - I've watched it so many times.
Kelly LaFlash it’s amazing and he sounds amazing. Honestly, he could record his own album if he wanted too I’m sure.
If anyone wants a quick link - RDJ's got the pipes - Sting's 60th birthday concert - ua-cam.com/video/aQbOF-RKLgQ/v-deo.html
Kelly LaFlash yes thank you lol I was trying to find a way to get Jamel to check this out because he’s going to be blown away
Have you seen this one? ua-cam.com/video/bhheV1Em3m0/v-deo.html
You gotta do the live album version of "Ridin' The Storm Out."
Their best song, in my opinion.
I agree....best by far!
Damn those harmonies are amazing
Without a doubt, one of the best songs of all time, imo. Fantastic song.
God please bring real rock like this back.
Love his voice!! LOVE THIS BAND!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Big fan of R.E.O. from the 80s. Glad to see that the depth of their music is obvious for younger people hearing it for the first time!
REO, GOLDEN COUNTRY.... TODAY'S TIME'S 😢 💕👣💕🎭🎭🎭
70's REO. The real good stuff.
Seen REO live about 10 years ago with my then 15 yr old son. He was not happy I brought him to an old people group They were with Styx . At the end of the concert he said those old people can sing. He even caught a drum stick from REO speedwagon drummer .
RIP Gary! Miss your guitar.
