When bands existed who could sing live and give 100%
This is a live album that needs to be played all the way through from start to finish in a sitting two totally and fully appreciate.
To, not two. Two is a number
@@TonyM1961 yeah I know ..blame my phone ..sorry. didn't review it before posting. My baddd
Gary Richrath was an awesome lead guitarist....well worth the price of a ticket just to see/hear him play.
Give a listen to 157 Riverside Ave. - Awesome This is one of the best live albums of all time IMHO
they reacted to 157 Riverside Sep 12, 2022.
3 minutes of the greatest live rock guitar ever..... Golden Country!
Yes, I don't remember if you listened to the version 157 on this album. Must check it out if you haven't! Always love you guys
Gary Richrath has a sound of his own. Very recognizable. Other Great live albums are Strangers In The Night, Made In Japan, Tokyo Tapes, Live And Dangerous and Double Live Gonzo.
And Gary was one of the very few famous guitarists to play a double cut-away Les-Paul (he played the traditional LP too). Cool guitar for sure.
These guys put on a helluva live show back in the day! I've seen them several times and lived in the area where the band was formed in Central Illinois. Hometown boys made good!
They still kill it live
@@suzieredfoxfur6982 Kevin doesn't have the same power in his voice.
Peoria, Illinois here. I’ve seen them live in 1980 in Boulder Colorado. Unbelievable performance.
I just attended my 40th REO show this past July at the NY State Fair. Free concert! I saw them first in 1973; their first venture outside their home turf. Rochester, NY. They opened for Canned Heat, and thus began a love affair between rock & roll fans in Rochester and REO Speedwagon. Over the years I have caught them in many a venue in many a city. I love Rock & Roll (speaking of which, I once saw Joan Jett and the Blackhearts open for REO), and my heart will always belong to REO Speedwagon.
Their live album is one the great live performances ever! Thank you!
One of rocks greatest hits! Now just let this sink in for a minute: this is performed live in front of THOUSANDS of screaming fans. That means ONE TAKE. No studio dubbing. No voice overs. No retakes or splicing. No auto tune. Just some twenty years olds rocking out! Incredible!
Asia's reaction was what music should do. Make you feel, I've always loved live music better than recorded in a studio.
Great classic. REO is really great in concert
I am a massage therapist that worked on this band backstage before one of their shows, and they were the nicest guys! Very funny and chill, and still love playing together
Gary Richrath was an incredible Guitarist. That’s when REO Speedwagon was great!
1905's Reo Speedwagon was an incredible development in automotive, as well as board/card game, technology. 🤙🏻
GREAT CARS AND TRUCKS
Gary Richrath on guitar kept REO a rock band while Kevin Cronin the lead singer was more Folk/Pop and so there is a great balance in the writing and playing.
Kevin wasn't the vocalist on the debut album. Their debut just hit, and they opened for Grand Fuck Railroad. When the played "157 Riverside Ave" I became a Gary Richrath, REO fan for life. Grand Funk was on their "Mark , Don and Mel" tour. After that REO changed direction. They went from killer to phenomenal!! I think I saw them at Louisville Gardens.: RIP Gary!!
Looks like everyone loved this reaction! Next up from this Live album has to be "Golden Country"!
Listen to this one next just for the guitar solo!
REO Speedwagon was my first concert as a junior in high school in southern Illinois (with them being an Illinois band). It was soon after their album "Hi Infidelity" came out and the album was #1 on the album charts. The crowd was very into it and REO did not disappoint. It was an amazing show, including this song.
Gary Richrath one of the greatest guitar players ever (R.I.P) Gary left the band in early 80's and Reo was never the same . everything they did in the 70's was fantastic ,it's the only REO i listen to. This whole album ROCKS!!!!!!!
My first REO album was Hi Infidelity, when first learning to play guitar. I love watching Asia when she hears something new! Can just see the gears turning about her next song!!! The eye's, the smile, the look of confusion when you hear stuff you never heard before!! Love Y'all sooo much!!!!
Great live album with Gary Richrath's guitar playing leading the way. Growing up in Illinois in the 70's REO concerts were a must see and this album represents them. You were right Asia "can you imagine this live"... They aren't the same band from this album now but those of us who saw them then remember it well. Thank you for the reaction wish you two could have experienced them then I think you really would have enjoyed it.🎸🎶
Goosebumps! Yeah, I'm OLD! I was around when this was released and jamming to it. I Had GOOSEBUMPS just now Asia!
This was recorded in Indianapolis I believe. It was this or Golden County. Sorry, native Hoosier transplant to Florida. This is my generations music...
There is a live video of a song called Golden Country. The visual is everything you can imagine listening to the audio and more!
Try any of these , "Golden Country", "Back On The Road Again", "Keep Pushin", "Only The Strong Survive", They're all rockin' classics. This song brings back some pretty wild party memories lol! Thanks for this reaction!
Back when REO used to ROCK!!! (before they unfortunately became a commercial, radio-friendly pop band). R.I.P. lead guitarist Gary Richrath
On Saturday December 10, 2022 they are appearing at Choctaw Grand Theater in Durant, OK. that is a hour and a half drive up Highway US75. If you can get tickets for that concert. This song and album was released December 23, 1973. By the way the original album was a studio album it wasn't live. This was their 3rd album. The live album was "You Get What You Play For" the singer in both versions was Kevin Cronin. The song was written by Gary Richrath. Thank you for the reaction to this song Asia and BJ.
School bus boom box hell yeah i loved it! I was a black kid who loved to rock to!
This live version put the band on the map - best live version -Cannot be played loud enough. Wish you had seen the live performance video. RIP Gary Richrath 🎸
I love Asia's face and reaction at 6:21 in the song! She GETS it!! This Live Album was so very good and launched REO to the top in the next 6-8 years!
This song is a banger. Just want to be in the car with the windows down and flying down the road. 🔥
One of the best live concerts I ever heard
I played this album 100’s of time Gary is a working man’s guitarist rolled his sleeves up with no pretentious one of a kind
still think their very best song is Say You Love Me, Or Say Goodnight from the album You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish!!
One of their best, a real rocker. They had some big hits and rockers with incredible lead guitar playing. They are playing live now though without the energy or vocal range they once had!
Played this song every single day of winter when living in Colorado for 15 years. Drove my wife crazy!
The radio also used this live performance - that's how good it is! Dad had You can tune a piano but you can't Tunafish. This is their best song IMO - their Stairway to heaven.
Thank you! Finally, someone is reacting to what, in my opinion, is REO at their peak of rock and rollin' good times. This album has taken me through the tired times of many road trips, 'cause you just can't drift off and lose focus when Gary's makin' that guitar sing and Kevin's singing around Gary's licks.
To watch them live go to their video for BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN. It will give you some perspective on how good these guys were in concert. Guitarist, Gary Richrath takes his solo and sails into the stratosphere. And the fans just love it. So will you. Enjoy
Funny Story! Early 90’s went to a festival in Iowa called steamboat days. Off the Mississippi River and Illinois border. Thur - Saturday event. Friday night was REO. Stormy night. They came on at 8! First song was riding the storm out. Soon as they finished, pouring rain started. It rained for weeks solid. And that was the beginning of the great 90’s floods in Midwest America. 😉✌🏾
This is the first song I remember from them and it started me listening more and more 😊
I live on the North Carolina coast, and this song always gets played at hurricane parties
You gotta give ( Golden Country) live a reaction. Gary's Guitar solo is Epic.
Gary Richrath was no doubt a top notch guitar player, but the thing that set him apart was nobody sounded like him. Totally unique style, and the sound and the way he attacked the song was just mind blowing, studio or live.
REO was a Midwest band, I grew up not far from where they started out. Those were the 'crusin' the strip' days and REO was meat and potatoes for that scene. When their album Hi Fidelity hit in '81, it just blew the roof off everything. Everybody had it, everyone was playing it. What awesome times.
Check out Golden Country by them. One of my very favorites.
I love all REO Speedwagon! My very first concert in 1980 when I was a sophomore in H.S. 😊 (Although my cousin took me to Donny & Marie Osmond & Family concert when I was 11 😅)
When I was a young pre pubescent lad REO, Rush, and Van Halen were the live shows everyone wanted to see.
And The Eagles, Skynard, Pink Floyd and Zeppelin
My favorite from REO. I saw REO and Chicago together in Atlanta. Omg. Amazing
I'm grateful my aunts and uncles introduced me to good music like this at a young age... they were like Angles :)
Asia & BJ, you'll love their smash hit "Can't Fight This Feeling"!! Kevin Cronin on lead vocals.
I honestly always forget that's an REO Speedwagon song it's so different from every other song they have
80’s Rock…We had Van Halen, Journey, REO…just to name a few.
Asia and BJ…Got to watch these Live Performances!
So much was happening with the inception of Cable TV. 1980-1981 MTV. CMT. Journey having the first live concert to air (from Houston on HBO)
This Song was written when the Boys were staying in the mountains of Colorado where I grew up and every time they played in Denver this was the last song of the evening and we in the crowd would always go crazy and we all would sing! Great memories Great Band!
Saw these guys in 1975 as a 15 year old kid at a holiday spectacular at the old CAPITOL CENTRE in large Maryland
with Blue oyster cult,Ted Nugent ,Rush,Leslie west and
REO SPEEDWAGON all for $15.00 per ticket ! Un f**KING believable and I still remember that it was one helluva concert to say the least !
RIP Gary Richrath, thank you for your guitar work, outstanding and underated!!!! 😃
"Ain't nobody talks with their guitar the way Gary does!!" RIP Gregg Philbin & Gary Richrath
i saw them on this tour ...THEY ROCKED...strongly recomend "Golden Country"...same album...this song is literally about a Rocky Mountain thunder storm some of the band experienced
Saw them 25 years apart…same energy and awesome show both times…Respect…
HOORAY!! You did the live version! The awesome and underappreciated Gary Richrath on guitar. R.I.P. Gary
Love your channel and reactions...keep it up...Got to see these guys back in the 70's, they rocked, and being from wyoming, Ridin' the Storm out" was always "our" common theme song..Rock ON!!! you Two!!
Great vocals.. gnarly guitar.. smokin drummer.. crispy bass.. the complete package..
Definitely give Golden Country,, from the same live album a listen.. For sure live from this album.. Guitar is on next level, even from this.
Omg reo speedwagon are one my favorites reminds of back in the day ❤❤y’all gotta try Take it on the run by them completely different vibe
I saw them 4 times in the '80s here in Va: always a fine show. Great Midwestern rock & roll.
The Speedwagon Was Roaring Mighty In The 70's For Sure!! They Were My First Concert In 74'- Grateful To Have Seen Them In Their Hay Day! 🎸🎸🎸🎸 If You Haven't Already Rocked Out To "Roll With The Changes" or Golden Country" I'd Highly Recommend! Thank You For Always Bringing Your A Game!
No problem!
The WHOLE album is FIRE! I wore that out in my jr. and high school years. Literally. Had to get another copy.
Só I am 62 but REO was definitely one of my top five favorite groups along with Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Tom Petty..ELO is excellent too,,REO literally still sounded good live when they were much older even
I was lucky enough to see REO live twice in the late 70's & early 80's & they rocked! The crowd was pumped & when this song came on the stadium erupted!
Great times!
The late great Gary Ritchrath! So So underappreciated as a guitarist of his time!!
So glad to see that you reacted to the very best version of this awesome song! ❤
This song is about getting stuck in a snow storm at Red Rocks Amphitheater, West of Denver,Co.
Saw them do that on New Years Eve back in the day, great stuff. Gary’s guitar tone is instantly identifiable. From that same album you need to do Golden Country and 157 Riverside Ave
I saw them live in 78. Great band great show.
I have a cousin that lives in Texas and during one of your hurricanes, he sat in his pool with this song playing very loudly on repeat until the hurricane passed. Yea, we are a couple of good ole Michigan farm boys (I live in Maryland, doing programming instead of farming). LOL Keep up the good work you two.
I love you guys,
You’re awesome,
I first saw REO at a bar that I live right next door to! The 505 Club
In Des Moines, Iowa!
Ha Ha!
Yeah baby!
Rock on guys!
BJ- you are right on about the guitarist Gary Richrath. He IS on another level than most. Highly skilled & always melodic; like Journey’s Neil Schon💪
First time I saw REO Speed wagon tickets were 5$ 1973
Great tune from back in the day! Yes, they were badass live too. Much love to you guys from Ft. Worth, keep rockin
Jam session is a perfect description. It sounded 5 guys got together for a fun filled jam session and the audience got to participate.
Oh yeah and I love your Goosebumps..lol.. that just means that you're in touch with the music show them off proudly.
Asia's face just lit up in the last verse!!!! Great reaction
Saw them live in early 80s. They were THAT good!
Absolutely one of the greatest live album tracks of all time. RIP Gary Richrath. 😥🙏
You guys gotta check out all REO. But listen to studio versions. Listen to golden country, whisky night, and any songs off older 70's level. Son of a Poor Man is awesome too.
the guitar player was Gary Richrath, he was a amazing, under rated player. and this was the live version
My all time favorite. Now check out Keep Pushin' On.
They are from
My home state of Illinois. About an hour from where I grew up. They played in all the bars. Got very popular
Gary Richrath was a killer guitarist no doubt.
always do the original studio studio recording masterpiece to a classic for the AUTHENTIC exact experience people had when that original version grabbed our souls LIVE IS ALWAYS LATER AND DIFFERENT ALWAYS
One of REO Speedwagon's best songs. Check out Back on the Road Again.
Gary Richrath, the most underrated guitarist! Miss him.
If you want a good REO Speedwagon song to check out, “Variety Tonight” is another fantastic song they did back in 1987.
Check out the live performance of Back on the Road Again from 1982 to see them at their best.
Now picture a greatful audience rockin out together as one. That's how it was back then. Nobody showed up to see an image.....they showed up to see Profesional musicians and vocalists. They showed up to see the band...... period.
No , hell no - I always showed up to BOOGIE
@@kingscairn
Lol!
Gary Richrath was ALWAYS on a much higher level than most Rock guitarist's, he's top ten FOR sure! Ugh! He was soooo good! :)
The story goes is that when they were in Colorado here they were going to do concert and the band hiked the flatirons in Boulder and it started snowing and I think they had to be rescued I'm not sure but they rode the storm out they wrote the song and played it that afternoon I guess at the concert. As The story goes
My fav REO song...Colorado native : )
Gary Richrath on lead guitar.
Alan Gratzer on drums.
When I was a young man listening to great stuff like this I just assumed it would last forever . But over time have learned everything is transitory . Your couch . Your Looks . Your health and your life . Enjoy your day in the sun Asia and Bj . Hope you have many years .
Probably my all-time favorite of theirs!!! I wish you were watching the official video of this from their '81 tour instead of just the live audio. The audience really gets them going and it's IMO the best live version from any of their concerts. ua-cam.com/video/GVFgEBq0EKM/v-deo.html BJ, it's all about Gary Richrath and his guitar. He was one of the best and so underrated.
This original version of the song released on the album is NOT this version. Kevin Cronin started the album but left the band over creative differences before the album was finished. This had a slower, more country sound (doesn't even sound like any song from the REO most of us know and love more like a cover band, honestly) and the singer was Mike Murphy. It didn't gain in popularity until after Kevin came back to the band and this version emerged during their concerts.
Right on Tina on that link!
You need to watch the live video for them performing Golden Country
Really speedway was an old time truck built by the maker of Oldsmobile back in the 20s R. E. O. is Ranson E. Olds
RIP Gary. You were the best!
REO Speedwagon was a truck maker.
Hey suggestion for a country song reaction I think you'd guys like, David Ball's Riding with Private Malone; really good story-telling which I think you guys would like
Anyway bout to watch the reaction now ✌️
I would like to see them react to The Rodeo Song by Gary Lee and Showdown (original artists in 1980. All others are covers) just to watch one heller reaction once they start hearing the lyrics 😄 🤣
Golden Country by these guys….🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪👍
