This is beautiful just as is. It doesn't need beatboxing or any of that stuff. Home Free chose to not add those things to pay respect to the lyrics and song composition. I have performed this song hundreds of times and never with a full band. It simply does not need it. This is perfect the way it is. Mad props to HF for respecting the song and the artist. That's what I love about them. They're authentic! Adding anything else would have ruined this track. Acoustic and vocals! Thanks, HF for showing respect to Don and this beautiful song.
The way Don came to write this song . He read a biography on Vincent Van Gogh and understood Vincent wasn’t crazy and suffered from illness and it inspired him to write this beautiful song as homage to Vincent. Home Free and Don McLean such a great match 😊
One of my absolute all time favorite classics. Don Mclean’s voice is so pure and even as he has aged it remains very beautiful. The last word and note always makes me tear up and this version and his sweet last note still grabbed me.
This is absolutely beautiful! The harmonies are gorgeous. No beat boxing, just Adam's beautiful tenor voice. It amazes me how Don's voice sounds almost the way it did 50+ years ago. Love your reaction! ♥
Love this collaboration! "Vincent" is such a great song by Don McLean! He originally did it in 1972. What a great remake with Home Free! Rob's voice is perfect for this song. Such a beautiful tribute to the sad life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. He suffered from depression & committed suicide. He never saw any success during his life. But now his paintings are worth millions of dollars.
It was a stroke of genius to use only the guitar without additional percussion. I love the shifting paintings behind them. Rob certainly rises the occasion. Great reaction
"American Pie" was filmed during the covid lockdowns - it's so nice to see them be able to actually sing together. I never fail to be impressed by Home Free's respect for music & other artist(s). Home Free is also ego-free and they let the artist and his music be the focal point. Just gorgeous.
I was a junior in high school when this song first hit the airwaves. I think I prefer this version; it maintains the reverence for the song and the words while adding depth and warmth. Don still sounds amazing, Rob was perfect for this song and Rob and Austin’s harmonies are magical. This is stunning and I can’t stop watching it!
A huge statement has been reinforced numerous times over the last half dozen years when notorious artists have collaborated with Home Free in singing legacy hits and in several cases have reached out to Home Free. Home Free is a very humble group of guys who know how to pay their respects as they showcase these well-respected and well-known artists. Thank You Home Free, for your leadership by action that we all admire and appreciate doing things the right way!!!!! ❣
Absolute perfection! 🤯❤🎶 Don McLean & Home Free. The beautiful melody & harmonies. Don's masterful guitar. Heart-touching lyrics (sheer poetry)! Don's voice! Rob's voice! Adam's background vocals. The chef's kiss at the end where they become a part of Vincent's "Terrace at Night". Perfection! 😘
Hauntingly beautiful lyrics about the troubled life of Van Gogh. Don also knows how to paint a picture with his lyrics. #HomeFree collaborations are the best and always ensure the featured artist(s) takes the spotlight. Just WOW! As they never disappoint please keep the Home Free coming!!
I have been having a recurring dream for a couple years that Home Free did this song -- dreams do come true😊 My habby of 52 years is Vincent and a painter. They really pay homage to the writer of this song!
Don invited HF to be there when he got his star, and to sing a verse of American Pie. And he asked them to back him up on the title song of his new album - American Boys. When they did American Pie, it was Covid, so they were never all together, so this was especially nice for them. Rob was the perfect voice for this, with Austin bringing in the harmony in those parts. And as usual, when HF 'features' someone - that person gets the spotlight.
I don't have to trust, I have myself, the chills, from top to toe, every single time I hear this rendition, and I've listened to it probably at least 60 times by now. Not only chills all over, but also tears in my eyes, sometimes they run down my cheeks as well. This is pure magic, true mastery, and what a collection of masters that come together here. From Vincent himself, to Don, to Home Free, to Darren Rust who arranged and produced it, to the person who made the video, which I assume was Jimmy Bates. All masters of the crafts that chose them. That is nine masters in this one song and video. It's a very rare and unique experience. Vincent has, and rightfully so imho, been called by many as the most perfect of all songs, musically as well as lyrically. Simply magical beyond full comprehension.
You can't get better than this....absolute perfection. It always makes me sad too....such amazing talent. Read that he produced over 750 paintings in his last 2 years....after his death and his brothers death shortly afterwards, his sister-in-law was left destitute and believe it or not used his paintings as firewood.....God knows what beauty was lost. Home Free's harmonies + Don McLean + genius & beautiful lyrics (Sir Paul McCartney once called Vincent, "the perfect song")
Actually, it was because of Johanna Van Goh-Bonger, Theo's widow, that the world owes for the preservation of Vincent's legacy. She was a young woman left with an infant when her husband died mere months after his brother. She was the educated daughter of a wealthy family. Left as the sole owner of Vincent's paintings, Johanna began to work tirelessly to promote Vincent's work with art critics, art dealers, and museums. Jo, as she was called, also published Vincent's numerous letters that Theo had kept. She succeeded in fulfilling Theo's dreams of promoting Vincent's work to the world. She did this in a man's world without equal rights in the nineteenth century. During her life, Jo kept the majority of Vincent's paintings together in a collection. At the same time, she also raised her son who was named Vincent after his uncle to be equally protective of his uncle's legacy. She only sold a few of Vincent's paintings reluctantly to further Vincent's exposure to the world as a great artist.
@@lazylady8591 I never said anything about his work being discovered, I said WE LOST MANY paintings because of his sister-in-law...you tried a "I GOTCHA" but your comprehension skills are lacking
@@miamidolphinsfan Sorry, but I couldn't find a reference that validated the claim that his sister=in=law burned his paintings. You shouldn't take validating facts so personally. Something is either true or not. Either of us could be mistaken . It wouldn't reflect badly on either of us or our comprehension. I've always loved this song and Home Free has made me love it even more. Bonus, we get to hear Adam's sweet voice. Don still sounds wonderful. And, Rob!!! Thanks for the Home Free reactions
Absolutely love this. It's so amazing that Don invited Home Free to join him on re-releases of his two (to me) most iconic songs. Tim was quoted on the website Everything Nash that he thinks this is perhaps the most perfect song ever written. They also backed him on the title track of his new album, American Boys. There is an audio-only video on Don's channel. It's a bop.
Vincent has been my favorite song for many years, it’s a true masterpiece. I have had the privilege of seeing some of Van Gogh’s work in person and it was one of my most memorable experiences. His work has a magnetic quality and is so alive, I noticed in a large room in a museum with many beautiful paintings that people were drawn to Van Gogh’s work and lingered there longest. The song Vincent is a fitting tribute to the genius Van Gogh. Thanks for your reaction, love your channel.❤
Beautiful song, and Don still sounds terrific. Rob fit the song perfectly, and Austin harmonizing with Rob and Don was awesome! I am going to miss hearing Austin and Rob harmonizing together as i think their voices compliment each other beautifully.
Such a beautiful collaboration between Home Free and Don McLean! This song was hugely popular when I was in 7th grade, so much so that the choir teacher chose it as one of the songs we sang in concert. Although we weren't awful, it was nothing like the original version or this wonderful work of vocal art! I'm curious to see what is going to be in Home Free's future with Austin Brown choosing to retire from the group.
So beautifully done by Don and the boys. Don sounds great for 78! And Rob accompanying with those incredible harmonies was just perfect. Loved the video too with the paintings and them becoming a painting too….beautiful. Good one LH!🤩😃
This is truly phenomenal! What a voice Don McLean still has! Wow. And of course Austin also sang great, but Rob's voice is just perfect for this song. His voice so warm, soft as silk and full of emotion. The quiet background vocals and guitar playing complete it for me. It's the same song as my youth, but with the Home Free twist it's something different. A beautiful song where I, of course, as a Dutch person, know the history of Vincent van Gogh well. I lived not far from his birthplace for a while. If I could, I would have given Don McLean and Home Free a bouquet of sunflowers in memory of Vincent. The sunflower one of his most famous paintings 🌻...... 💖 💖💖💖💖💖 It's now my favorite ❤
Great reaction, Chris. Loved this back in the 70s and this new version still brings the feels. Don sounds amazing, don't see any indication of his age in his vocals. And we get to hear a bit of Adam with his soft tenor backing silky Rob and Austin. Rob is a perfect complement to Don, very similar voice, and Austin has that natural 'cry' in his tone which suits this subject. Rob had posted that this was an all-time fave song and he had difficulty with the recording because he was getting emotional. Everyone is dressed so casually, Chance with his stocking cap. As if they were friends just hanging out, began singing and someone recorded the gathering. If you rewatch, look for the very subtle animation in the background paintings.
Van Gogh painted a picture of the doctor who cared for him. He gave it to him and the doctor's mother used it to patch the chicken coop. It sold in 1991 to a friend of Matisse.

how many are coming to this channel daily to see if he has reviewed the new Lucy Thomas release from her live concert? It is such a flawless performance. I totally get the same feeling when Barbra Streisand hit the scene in the 1960s and 70s.
Awww, I made the call to just watch that on my own as I already have Lucy's reaction to this same song on the channel, so I thought I'd just treat myself to it, and you are SO right.
Vincent Van Gogh did fall in love with a girl. He cut his ear off and sent it to her as a token of his affection. So when the song says that he took his life as often lovers do, he's talking about this love, not painting!
Oh no I missed the drop by 15 minutes😢 What a beautiful song I’ve never heard it before. I LOVE it 💗 Ps. You’re looking very cool and handsome in black teehee! 🤭😉😎❤️
man you gotta react to 2pac again and i think you have to see the aggresive 2pac and the most brutal diss track of all time is 2pac hit 'em up the backstory is this: he is friends with biggie smalls (The Noturious B.I.G) and the whole label called "Bad Boy" and he was invited to record a song together while he was going to the elevator to the studio he was robbed and shot 5 times in 1993 and at the same time he had a rape case and he was sentenced to i dont know how many years but while 2pac is in prison biggie releases "Who Shot Ya" by the name you probably know why it had rumours about biggie setting him up so 2pac believed that and also while 2pac was in prison suge knight (the owner of the label called "deathrow records") he wanted to bail out 2pac for 1,7 million dollars in return 2pac have to record 3 albums and the first song to be ever released is "california love" produced by dr. dre (yes dr dre and snoop dog are in the same label) and 2pac releases hit em up as a single
Don’s voice and guitar chops haven’t lost a bit over so many years. And HF - especially Rob and Austin - killed this incredible song. Sadly, to me, you interrupted way too often. Everything you said could have been saved to the end. But still, amazing song and job done on it.
Vincent van Gog, not Go. Gogh is old Dutch spelling. Don McLean: misery sells! Van Gogh: success by failure drama. Sad, but how long last virtue signaling? If Van Gogh was smart, he would have painted sell-able paintings. McLean is a smart writer, more rime than poetry; a trap. In spite of this: sincere reaction.

This is Don Mclean featuring home free not the other way around really .
Both this and American Pie - so easy to listen/hear/think about the lyrics.
how many are coming to this channel daily to see if he has reviewed the new Lucy Thomas release from her live concert? It is such a flawless performance. I totally get the same feeling when Barbra Streisand hit the scene in the 1960s and 70s.
Awww, I made the call to just watch that on my own as I already have Lucy's reaction to this same song on the channel, so I thought I'd just treat myself to it, and you are SO right.
They also collaborated with Don on his lead song on his new album.
This was also could be said about American pie
Vincent Van Gogh did fall in love with a girl. He cut his ear off and sent it to her as a token of his affection. So when the song says that he took his life as often lovers do, he's talking about this love, not painting!

Great reaction! 👏🏼 You should take a listen to Josh Robin’s version as well 🎶👍🏼
Howdy my friend❤❤❤

Of course, on a meta-level it's about any tortured, mis-understood artist.
❤❤❤
One of my faves and don’t the fellas sound good. I’m really gonna miss Austin, but I’m sure the new guy/gal will be great too. 😊
man you gotta react to 2pac again and i think you have to see the aggresive 2pac and the most brutal diss track of all time is 2pac hit 'em up the backstory is this: he is friends with biggie smalls (The Noturious B.I.G) and the whole label called "Bad Boy" and he was invited to record a song together while he was going to the elevator to the studio he was robbed and shot 5 times in 1993 and at the same time he had a rape case and he was sentenced to i dont know how many years but while 2pac is in prison biggie releases "Who Shot Ya" by the name you probably know why it had rumours about biggie setting him up so 2pac believed that and also while 2pac was in prison suge knight (the owner of the label called "deathrow records") he wanted to bail out 2pac for 1,7 million dollars in return 2pac have to record 3 albums and the first song to be ever released is "california love" produced by dr. dre (yes dr dre and snoop dog are in the same label) and 2pac releases hit em up as a single
Oh no oh no, you didnt just say "Van Go" did you?, i know us brits dont emphasise it correctly either, but we get pretty close with "Goth" lmao

Recognize HF and Don in the watercolor at the end?
Don’s voice and guitar chops haven’t lost a bit over so many years. And HF - especially Rob and Austin - killed this incredible song. Sadly, to me, you interrupted way too often. Everything you said could have been saved to the end. But still, amazing song and job done on it.
Please react to Good News - Mac Miller
Vincent van Gog, not Go. Gogh is old Dutch spelling. Don McLean: misery sells! Van Gogh: success by failure drama. Sad, but how long last virtue signaling? If Van Gogh was smart, he would have painted sell-able paintings. McLean is a smart writer, more rime than poetry; a trap. In spite of this: sincere reaction.
No one like Home Free neither…..
