When they recorded American Pie,Rob mentioned to Don McLean that Vincent was one of all time favorite songs. Don McLean said,well,let's do it. And that is how it happened.
At 78, Don still has great pipes! Honor to him and Home Free❤❤❤ each to the other.
This is so gorgeous. It's nearly unbelievable that Don invited Home Free to back him on the re-recording of his (arguably) two most iconic songs. In an article on the website Everything Nash, Tim was quoted as saying this was perhaps the best song ever written. What an honor for them. They also backed him on the title track to his new album, American Boys. There is an audio-only video on Don's channel. It's a bop.

Don McLean is a master lyricist - "American Pie" covered so much American history and "Vincent" is so poetic. Home Free is the perfect band to collaborate with him - they're always respectful of other artists and stay true to the artist's vision of the music.
I have been having a reoccurring dream that Home Free did this song-- Dreams do come true. My hubby of 52 years is Vincent and is a painter!

I’ve loved this song since high school early 1970’s. HF with Don gives it a fuller feel with the ebb and flow of the harmonies. Both versions are just lovely. I do have to say that this version has melted me to tears several times. Rob’s voice is so perfect for this- he really captures the emotion, and we got to hear Angelic Rob again.
Notice the portrait at the end the center one has Don and Home Free amongst the ones hanging on the wall they are looking at. The warmth that Home Free brings to the song backing up Don is simply so pleasing to the ear!! ❣
They are truly in tune with each other perfectly and that is why we adore Home Free Lieben.

I loved that whole album when I was a teenager, and would listen to the whole thing over and over. Don McLean and Home Free have done a beautiful job with this, and Don's voice has held up so beautifully well. I love watching your reactions, and I really love that you listen to the whole song before reacting. I think any song should be taken as a whole before breaking it into pieces. Thank you!

Rob has the voice of an angel and his voice is perfect for this song. The tears flow whenever I hear this version and I've listened to it many many times. Home Free is so great in everything they do but this was simply phenomenal. There's a story told about them regarding this song. When they collaborated with Don on American Pie, Rob told Don that this is one of his absolutely favorite songs and Don said "Then let's do it". Thanks to Rob for mentioning it to Don.

This entire video and song was absolutely magical! It was fantastic when Don McLean wrote and performed this song all those years ago, but now Home Free added their magic which created such a moving piece of work.

I remember when this first came out. I have to admit they made me fall in love with it all over again. It was like artists singing art about art painted by an artist if that makes any sense. It was very appropriate that they became a part of the artwork, because in my mind they will forever more be inked with it.
I have always loved Don's storytelling voice and also loved his lyrics .. and this song -- THIS SONG is just really something. Home Free, in my opinion, can always acclimate quite comfortably to the musical situation/collaboration they find themselves in. Seems simple enough, but as a vocalist, I will say that that is SO difficult to do. Thanks for reacting to this masterpiece.

Love this collaboration! "Vincent" is such a great song by Don McLean! He originally did it in 1972. What a great remake with Home Free! Rob's voice is perfect for this song. Such a beautiful tribute to the sad life of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. He suffered from depression & committed suicide. He never saw any success during his life. But now his paintings are worth millions of dollars.

And of course Austin also sang great, but Rob's voice is just perfect for this song. His voice so warm, soft as silk and full of emotion. The quiet background vocals and guitar playing complete it for me. It's the same song as my youth, but with the Home Free twist it's something different. A beautiful song where I, of course, as a Dutch person, know the history of Vincent van Gogh well. If I could, I would have given Don McLean and Home Free a bouquet of sunflowers in memory of Vincent.

They had been teasing for a couple of weeks. When I have listened to Home Free with the legends I have appreciated both the original and the update- both lovely. I was in my mid twenties when Don began his career and have always enjoyed his songs. I grew up listening to classical music and many of the folk styles that were done in the 60s. I love story songs

This always gets me in the feels, too! Rob, Don, and Austin’s harmonies were so gorgeous. Rob really stood out in this one! There seemed to be a special “quietness” in this and I found it so calming. They didn’t publicize this beforehand, although I think Patreon members had some hints of the collaboration but not which song. Thanks, L-T!

Loved your reaction. Yes it's like magic. 'Starry Starry Night' another Don McLean masterpiece could only be enhanced by a collaboration with Home Free's harmonies. I've always loved the original and was a little apprehensive about the collaboration but silly me should have known better because when has Home Free or Don McLean ever disappointed us. Truly a match made in heaven. The video is awesome too. At the end did you notice that the painting of 'Starry Starry Night' had Don and Home Free in it?

I absolutely love this rendition. I had read that when they did American Pie. Rob told Don that one of his all-time favorite songs was Vincent. Don told Home Free, "Let's do it."
I have always loved this song and this collaboration is so beautiful!🔥🔥 Using Rob for some solo pats was just perfect, his voice worked so well with Don’s and then a little from Austin too! The harmonies from the group were just perfectly added to the song, making the entire thing just amazing! And I really love the end of the video where they all just fade into the painting and then it fades out and the group is looking at the painting in a museum! Such a great arrangement of the song and video production!

Great reaction, as always! Loved this back in the 70s and this new version still brings the feels. So rich with the addition of the layered harmonies. Don does sound amazing, no indication of his age in his vocals. And we get to hear a bit of Adam with his soft tenor backing silky Rob and Austin. Yes, Rob is a perfect complement to Don, very similar voice, and Austin has that natural 'cry' in his tone which suits this subject. Everyone is dressed so casually, Chance with his stocking cap. As if they were friends just hanging out, began singing and someone recorded the gathering. (No apparent hair, makeup or wardrobe assistance except the theme seemed to be 'wear something brown' LOL.)
If you watch again, look for the subtle animation in the Van Gogh paintings when in the background. Such as the moving water.
Don Mclean still has it when he sings. Home Free did a great job on this song with Don. The harmonies were great and Home Free is the best. Rob and Austin did great job. 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
Loved your reaction and comments. This was truly a masterpiece in it's own right. Did you notice at the end, after they had merged into the painting that was their background, that image became the center picture on the wall they were admiring?
That, plus the moving water, is what made the video a perfect match for this great song/collab.

Josh Groban's version of this is my favorite, but this is now an EXTREMELY close second. And it's one of those rare songs I always used to think was best sung in a single voice (whereas most other songs I like with several voices). But I've changed mind. I just can't figure out what I like best, the gorgeous singing or the stunning guitar. My eyes are misty. Such good stuff. 💙
