I test drove the Colorado 3 times, but in the end, i settled for the Nissan pro4x. 6k off msrp. So for roughly 39k i get a really nice truck. Already had the spray in bed liner, cruise controls, heated seats, heated steering wheel, remote start ,blind spot ,led lights and so much more. Happy with me decision...
@@CombatpzmanNot sure where you live but I've seen tons of new Frontiers and Colorados in Albuquerque, and very very few new Tacomas. Still see lots of old Tacomas and Colorados, though.
@@CombatpzmanConsidering how well they are selling. You’re either lying or blind lol, but then again you aren’t watching for them so I guess that’s fair.
@@jedioutcast888It’s actually because they’re the least “offensive” colors. Most people will live with a silver car. Not very many people want a lime green
I know you probably won't see, this but I also lost my rear camera. It was the coaxial cable. The dealer diagnosed it right off. The part took about three weeks to arrive at and the repair took an afternoon. That's the only issue I've had so far. I've had my 2023 Colorado Z71 seven months and it has 6k miles. I love it.
I think it is a GM issue across all platforms. This is happening on my 2023 Silverado right now, and it's been to the dealership twice. However, they keep saying they cannot replicate the issue and Chevy won't fix it unless it happens at the dealership. I even showed them a video of it doing on my phone , which I took the night before. Chevy is a damn joke when it comes to fixing issues.
Interesting. You're right about the ZR2. I went to look at one a couple of months ago, thinking if I liked the new Colorado I would order a Trail Boss. When I looked at the ZR2 I realized it was pretty much ready to go off road as is. The lift, tires, lockers, some skid plates, the off road pages, etc. There was nothing I had to do to it, unlike almost any other truck I've bought in the past. I brought it home with me. I kind of consider it the Colorado version of a Raptor, or at least close to it. Loving the truck so far.
@@scotw67 😢 There are other threads under this video. You didn't have to go out your way and *_"rub-it-in"_* 😶 ⬇️ ⬇️ L😂L The price of those 2024 Tacomas are super expensive. Even for a base model , I can probably throw in another 5 grand and then get a low-end Silverado.
I just rented the Nissan Frontier and I liked it. The one thing keeping it off my list though is that it is a direct injection engine with no port injection to keep the intake valves clean. The one I rented had only 14k miles on it and already had a rough idle, which can be a symptom of dirty intake valves. If I were to buy the Nissan, then I would definitely put a catch can on it. The Tacoma has both direct and port injection which is one of the reasons it's on the top of my list.
I took delivery of a 2024 Colorado Z71 just a few weeks ago. We've taken it on two road trips in the west (Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho) for a total of 2,500 miles. So far, it has been flawless. Lots of power over those two big summits on I-70 in Colorado. And better highway MPG than the EPA rating. Driving from 65 to 75 mpg we are getting 24 to 25 mpg. Not bad.
I had a 2018 Colorado. Put about 120,000 miles on it. The only part I ever had to replace was a thermostat. About a month ago I traded that in on a 2023 Colorado Z71. Love it so far.
Like the truck, its just long term reliability that worrys me. The torque and payload in a midsized truck, its tough to over look. Full size truck power in a smaller package I like. If they can improve reliability I may look into getting one in the future.
Andre if you're worried about not having cruise control because it's an option wait until the future where the seats and steering wheel will be an option after base price.
Have owned four Tacoma's (and still own a 2019 TRD Sport) but went for a 2023 ZR2 for the simple reason of price. Got a fully loaded ZR2 (minus the Bose stereo - my fault as didn't check the box) for 53K and change. Absolutely love it (have 4K miles on it). Have only had one tech glitch but great otherwise. Did kick around waiting on the new Tacoma but to be equivalent I would have had to wait for a TRD Pro. I'm thinking they will be 65K plus for one of those when you put in the fact most dealers are going to price gouge.
Finding ref to "afterblow" page 145 in 2023 manual. Afterblow Feature If equipped, under certain conditions, the fan may stay on or may turn on and off several times after you turn off and lock the vehicle. This is normal.
Nathan has a very good point. We had a captiva for 10 years, numerous company cars, now a rav4. I'm the newest driver here and. Never ever had or heard of a back up camera failure. That should not happen in a new vehicle. Specially if visibility is poor and it's mandatory equipment (not the case over here) truck looks fine and all but that's just silly...
I am watching you from Germany. I really like all of your TFL channels. Thank you for your work. I am driving a Hilux, Land Cruiser Prado and GRJ 76. Unfortunately all of your US Trucks are not really available in Europe because of our restrictive green government. Maybe I will buy me a house in Colorado, looks beautiful.
Frontier Pro-4X definitely a better buy. I looked at all the mid-size trucks (except Ford) and bought the 2023 Frontier in Sept 2023. It has operated flawlessly and I love it. Will probably change to BFG AT TA KO's when I need tires!
I like this truck and would buy one except for the lack of a longer box option and I’m not interested in so many of the controls being accessible only through the touch screen.
Just out of curiosity, how often do you mess with the headlights? Vehicle information is easily available through a shortcut and is no more complex than navigating the DIC with 4 arrows. So this is a non issue that is being blown way out of proportion. how about the fact that Toyota will sell you a vehicle with the hardware for command start but in order to use it you have to pay a monthly subscription, to use a button on your key fob!
Andre if it's a federal mandate that your car has to be equipped with a reverse camera and GM will not fix that For you they should replace your truck with a new truck since it is was new truck when it went out.
I have the 2017 Colorado LT. 3.6L V6, full options. I absolutely love it. It has never given me any grief. It has needed nothing but gas and oil (and new brakes last year) since I bought it. I have heard some people have issues with the 8 speed transmission but it has always treated me well.
Maybe the techs should have ohm the wire to the camera both checking short, short to ground, and short to shielding. Doesn't take a special tool just a multimeter and competence which is very lacking in automotive shops these days. My list of issues with my AT4X Cruise control the vehicle brakes for no reason, the display switches from miles per hour to kilometers on it's own, blind spot monitoring on passenger indicates something is there that isn't then when I pass a vehicle I doesn't even register, windshield whistles when going highway speeds, cameras sometimes just stop working, sunroof thumps whenever it rains, heat doesn't work unless setting above 78 degrees, and with trips that last more that 20 mins I get a really strong smell of burning motor oil. Love the ride quality but way to many issues and time to move on. It really like the vehicle but can't live with so many issues on a new vehicle. If GM can't get right systems that have been around for over a decade then I am very worried for the super cruise
I think the Colorado is better looking than the Tacoma. I love the color too. And the wrap was a good move. What I don't like about any of the mid sized trucks are the small fuel tanks. I tow a small camper. So the mid sized can all handle it. But when towing, the small tanks means limited range. Once you get 10 to 12 MPG towing, the range is unacceptable. I tend to take long camping trips, 6,000 to 12,000 miles (Alaska). Hot March day in Colorado? That fan running is totally unacceptable. Sounds like lemon law on that back up camera. And its ridiculous Chevy doesn't have cruise control standard.
This is why I have always thought "over the air updates" for vehicles are ridiculous--because they can't possibly account for what you might or might not do to upgrade the vehicle. For a hundred years, we manufactured and drove vehicles without "over the air updates", and everything was fine...why do we suddenly need them now? I don't want the manufacture retaining an ongoing role with the vehicle after I've bought it.
Because there was nothing to update. It's for the computer software to p possibly give you new features, but mainly to keep it secure. I agree it is a bad idea, you should have to accept it and be set to update the next time you park the vehicle and keep the engine on so it can't kill the battery and shut down the engine once complete.
Tesla and rivian are proving OTA updates to be bug benefits. Both of those vehicles get better as you have them with feature and quality of interface updates.
well it should not be replacing entire software, or even if it does need to replace a lot there should be easy simple way how to upgrade feature list by VIN ... freaking 2024 people are under impression we humanity are so advancing, they call every little better working nonsense AI, but we still struggling with basic stuff
Most new startups (or non-legacy brands) utilize an electrical network architecture powered by a very capable CPU and sophisticated software designed by the best in the world in Silicon Valley. Legacy brands still rely on very old-fashioned architecture that relies on supplier control modules with designs dating back to the 1980s and not necessarily designed for flexibility but cost. Until legacy manufacturers scrap their current way of doing things, they will continue to struggle with their electrical architecture and software on new vehicles, and the technology gap will widen.
I purchased a GMC 2018 Canyon Denali with 2.8L Diesel engine which now has 45K miles on it. I've had 2 types of problems with mine. I had 4 problems with the DEF system in the first 12K miles and problem was finally resolved after the dealer replaced the entire DEF system. The other problem was the transmission. It developed a shudder and the dealer said the transmission could not be fixed and had to be replaced at $9,000. I opted to flush the transmission and replace the fluid. This fixed the shudder issue and it is now one of the smoothest shifting transmissions I've experienced.
I'l get some haters, but I prefer my Honda Ridgeline. Just don't need body-on-frame for heavy payloads or towing. Love the smooth ride of the Ridgeline. It doesn't get enough respect.
First time Chevy owner, first time pick up truck owner, bought a loaded up 2023 Colorado LT. Has all packages except for the convenience package three. Has both towing packages and the technology package. Just got it about five days ago. Had 7000 miles on it. It was originally purchased in 2024, even though it’s a 2023 model. I absolutely love it so far. This is coming from somebody who never wanted a pick up truck. I do have a boat and want to know in the future that if I got a camper, I could tow it. So far, I love it. It was packaged with the turbo plus.
Bought one and have 5500 miles. Love it so far. I’ve definitely used my truck . Great off road and towing. Bugs I’ve experienced was a dead battery and It braked for me suddenly and scared the crap out of me 2times. . Other than that it’s a great truck
We can all blame our politicians for Screwing up our New Vehicles, With all of these Mostly ridiculous Safety systems required now, EVs etc, Trying to save people from themselves with computers drives me crazy, Yes I personally own two 2020 Vehicle's, At least I didn't overpay for any of this 🇺🇸.
Good luck what’s coming next after this is the transmission problems. Harsh shift up shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Main problem with these trucks
I know the new turbo Max engines circulate coolant through the turbo after you shut it down. Honestly I believe this is something that Toyota should have copied
Is TFL going to invest in a Frontier Pro4X? I know a guy that has one and loves it. He had a previous gen Tacoma and he says the Frontier is superior. Thanks for sharing this video and investing in the Colorado!
I also got the 430# torque calibration for my Colorado Trail Boss , the difference is , I raced a Colorado ZR2 at a light here in Phoenix and barley stayed ahead of him, I think it’s because ZR2 has bigger heavier tires!
Crazy that the Colorado’s issues are really tied to technology issues rather than mechanical. If they really spent the time fixing the tech side correctly, this truck would stand out much more
I extensively researched midsized trucks, chose '23 Colorado ZR2. Coming up on 10k miles and ZERO issues. A joy to drive on, off road. Avg 22.5mpg on winters (Blizzaks) interstate 70-80mph. The 2.7LI4T is a BEAST.
I think calling the Trail Boss the upper level trim is incorrect. The Trail Boss is a WT with the off road package. The LT actually is the higher level trim without the off road additions. For the same price of the Trail Boss I got the LT fully loaded with heated seats and steering wheel, duel comfort zones, lane maintain, upgraded power seats, upgraded interior, tow package, upgraded engine, led lights, bed liner, bed cover, rear seat console and a finer interior trim. GM was looking at 2 different demographics with the Trail Boss an the LT but the LT can still off-road with upgrades if you want. It is just not semi-pro ready.
TFL Andre the way I would spec my Colorado Trail Boss $42,040 MSRP 1) Convivence 1 - required for tech package comes with rear sliding window and cruise control, rear defrost 2) Convivence 2 - required for tech package comes with power driver seat, slow fall tailgate, tailgate storage 3) Safety package - REAR CROSS TRAFFIC BRAKING, outside heated power adjustable side mirrors, rear park assist beep, BLIND ZONE STEERING ASSIST WITH TRAILERING 4) Tecnology Package - ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, HD SURROUND VISION, 360 cameras great for off-roading and parking, REAR PEDESTRIAN ALERT, 5) ADVANCED TRAILERING PACKAGE - INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER, IN-VEHICLE TRAILERING APP, TRAILERING PACKAGE with receiver and 4/7 pin connector The reason I would get this package is because I would add the skip plates, running boards, tonneau cover, floor liners, LED bulbs, Beg Rug, Weather Tech bed Liner, all later so not to have over $5K more on the 6yr truck loan.
2023 Colerados in Canada are under a recall and stop sale for daytime running lights. Was supposed to pick up my ZR2 last week and they won't release it. Gm still has not got a software update to fix the recall. 37 days so far. Gm is pretty slow in getting things done.
Not an excuse by any means but the reason for that is probably due to the newly hired software engineers. I read they just hired ex Google and Apple employees if I'm not mistaken. The software in my canyon AT4 isn't terrible but it could use a little work
@@andy51300 most coming in a direct order only. Not like the old days where the lots were full of different models to select from. Even if they do have stock they are all on a stop sale right now.
I was going to buy a 24 Tacoma, and the breakdown video changed my mind. This video put the Colorado out of contention. Andre should have been provided with a loaner for the backup camera issue. Serious liability for GM if an injury occurs. I will just keep my 19 Tundra. Beyond a recall for light brightness, it has been trouble-free and has a usable bed.
Now that I've heard the backstory about when the truck was ordered, it sounds like that the whole cruise control issue can be traced back to a salesperson doing a lousy job of explaining what the different option packages included. That, OR, they did explain it and Andre consciously chose to save the money...but that's not how the story's being told, and I'm sure he'd admit it if he declined it intentionally. I can only imagine how much more positive Andre's experience with this truck would have been if the ordering process was done more competently. Also, how have these guys not figured out that the 'glitchy' fan activity is the afterblow feature for the HVAC? RTFM, guys...lol. 😉
@All-Miles-Matter your opinion is noted, beta. Driving yourself is OK. The wussification is widespread now. The sheeple needed their vehicles to do things for them, to make them fluff status symbols. And people wonder why accidenta have increased, insurance rates increased as well as vehicle prices. Can't survive without your heated seats and steering wheels either? Let men drive.

We have a new Canyon AT4 our son drives (couldn't find a Trail Boss), I love it's capability and it drives confidently with lots of low end torque plus it's refreshing not driving a full size truck around town but the second row cabin space is horrible, can't have it all I guess. No issues with it though.
what’s horrible about the second row i’m curious, there’s AC vents which most mid sizes don’t have especially frontier / tacoma and i’ve owned a tacoma and i consider comfortability subpar. frontier was even tighter. but never tried a canyon
@@alexanderradec Good point, this is our first mid-size truck so I'm comparing second row space to other smaller SUVs and I usually drive the family around in a full size truck. I'm sure space is limited back there in all mid-size trucks.
Same truck here, I do agree that I wish they could've given just a few more inches of leg room but it's not anything in upset over. Better under seat and behind rear seat storage would've been really nice. Or at least a fold down backrest
I’ve had several Tyger bed covers and all of them have been durable long lasting and affordable. I just purchased my 4th one for my ram 2500 and got the same tri-fold Andrei has here in this video. Installs quick and removal is a breeze if needed.
In 2022, when I heard about all the technology GM was adding to the 2023 Canyon/Colorado, I knew I didn't want what they were selling because I don't need that much technology in a truck. I also don't like the trend of car manufacturers to take away options and charge more for technology and make customers pay subscription fees. I found a 2016 Canyon extended cab with a long box and a manual transmission at a decent price. It has a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine that is too quiet, and I couldn't hear the engine when driving. I replaced the muffler with a Cherrybomb Vortex, and now I can hear the engine when shifting gears and fuel economy improved by about 2 MPG. I also need towing mirrors from Boost Autoparts because they are more "boxy" compared to the ClearView towing mirrors.
Same for me. I read the upcoming reviews and decided that I didn't need a restyle or a high-tech simulated gauge cluster. And I wanted the long bed. So I got off my butt and bought a 2022 while I still could. The 2.5L is arguably a touch underpowered, but I didn't buy mine for mud bogging or towing a fifth wheel. I rationalize that good fuel economy is more important than being able to rush from traffic lights anyway.
@Avo7bProject The 4-cylinder is definitely underpowered, and I think that is why the previous owner sold the truck I bought. When I was driving it home, I had to downshift to 3rd or 2nd gear to get up steep hills with cars riding my bumper. But my previous truck was a 2002 Sonoma with a 4.3L V6, and I plan to engine swap the older port injected 4.3L V6 into my 2016 Canyon with a Tremic transmission. If a naturally aspirated small displacement 4-cylinder engine struggles to move a modern mid-sized truck when empty, then the engine is not powerful enough. You can add a turbo to increase horsepower and torque, but I think the engine will be working too hard most of the time. I never had any problems with the 4.3L V6 and I think I can get decent horsepower/torque and still get good fuel economy because the motor doesn't have to work as hard as a smaller displacement engine.
I have never been a midsize truck myself, However i am highly impressed wit the value of the Trail Boss,Performance, Towing Capability. All this at a price point of under 40k in the current market and some regions, is still a lot of value. I just wish you could order this trim level with heated seats, but it is. a more base work trim level. The whole needing GM TO flash a tune for 650 is insane though.
I’ve had my 23 ZR2 now for about 4 months now. I love it so far. I haven’t had it long enough to give a full review but there’s things I love and things I hate. What I love is how ready it was off the lot. I was looking at a trail boss but it doesn’t have nearly half the features the ZR2 comes with. And I was originally dead set on the tacomas but didn’t want that because it felt the price wasn’t get as much out of it as the ZR2 was. What I don’t like is some of the features are locked in on the screen when I would like for it to just be a button by my knee or something. It’s my daily driver and my hobby truck. I love it as of now. I’m just hoping it last as long as the Toyotas do.
I liked the look of the new Colorado - I almost ordered a 2023 Z71 Colorado but was very concerned about GM quality as I have had many issues with them. Have bought 5 Toyotas in the last 14 years only had 2 issues with them in over 300,000 miles. 1 fix under warranty which was rims oxidized and 1 air conditioner that was out of warranty at 63,000 miles and Toyota fixed it free of charge anyway. I did end up buying a 2022 Canyon Elevation Premium package 4x4 in Feb 2023. First GM vehicle in 14 years. Thought it wouldnt have any issues since it has been built the same for years - but had front end leak at 12,000 miles and have battled squeaking, clunking in the rear end and creaking in the front end since 3500 miles. I found Service bulletin for Clip change in rear differential = did not fix, replaced passenger side drive shaft = did not fix, after research for clunking i put rubber pads in the leaf springs = fixed 70% of clunking, next bulletin i printed out and had dealer re-torque all the bolts on the leaf spring = fixed the clunking, but still has a rattle noise coming from the rear differential area = no fix and wrote a long letter to the CEO of GMC to threaten GM with lemon law - told me rattling and loose rear end noise is normal - no other truck ive owned had this noise. the squeaking noise ended up being the E-Brake line rubbing against something causing an annoying & loud squeak as I drove a good dealer mechanic found this and wire tied this away to prevent contact = no squeak after listening to this for 8000 miles. GM does not fix known complaints so i am Leary of my purchase. I would buy the Nissan Frontier next, New Tacoma is to expensive for what it is. Hopefully Honda ups the capability and looks of the 2025 Ridgeline and i would highly consider this - i need it to tow 4800 lbs with some larger weight capacity room
Bought and sold a 23 Trail Boss in 6 months. Way to many "technology" issues and the dealer really didn't seem to care. Issues were either declared as normal or they couldn't duplicate them so no action was taken...great looking truck but I don't miss it at all.
Thank you for your videos. I have worked for jeep for over 30 years and seen your videos about the trail boss. We do not have a mid size truck except the jeep gladiator and would not purchase another one because of the price point and continue to replace windshields. I did purchase a trail boss and love it so far. I was looking at Tacomas but they raised the price so much I couldn't justify spending that kind of money. The trail boss is everything I need looks great very comfortable and couldn't pass up the price point on this truck. Thanks again for all your reviews on the trail boss.
You are very blessed. Everyone else has not been that fortunate. Did you by chance look at a Frontier Pro model with the V6 engine? I know a guy that had a previous gen Tacoma. He likes the Frontier much more. I (personally) still prefer a full size truck with a V8 engine.
My 2019 RST Colorado has had zero issues since I bought it new off the trailer. I paid $34K and got 20 inch rims, 35 inch Bridgestone Dueller tires, full size matching spare, luxury package, the entertainment package, heated seats and steering wheel, full black leather interior, biggest touchscreen they offered at the time, V6. And it has cruise control. It's too bad he isn't as happy with his as I am with mine. As far as I am concerned, for a guy who isn't pulling a trailer, it's the perfect truck.
Sorry to hear of the issues. Sadly they happen. I am happy to say I have had no issues with my 2023 Colorado ZR2. Love mine. Cruise control should be on everything as standard.
I have been a Toyota guy for along time but now that I am in the market for a pickup I find myself liking the GMC Canyon but I admit I am worried about reliability.
Agreed. They aren't reliable. Too make short term issues and horrible longevity. Might be why the company is struggling financially. Rumors are they may bankrupt AGAIN if they continue with their ways
Your review of the Colorado was well done, and makes me happy that I bought my Honda Ridgeline. Now let me qualify by saying I do not off-road. I do not tow with my truck, or NART if you prefer. my truck has a gross vehicle carrying weight of 1499 compared to Andres 1514 and my bed although lower which is easier to reach over is 2 inches longer. I have friends that have the Colorado and love it but they do different things with theirs. Best of luck with your truck, and from the information you guys have provided me over the years help me make my decision to buy my Honda. Thank you and keep up the good work.
guy sounds like me. "I ill never live this down" after not ordering cruise control on a new vehicle. I would literally lose sleep over that. But seriously, what NEW vehicle today does not come with CC? thats insane.
I would consider myself lucky if the rear backup camera in my Ford F250 didn't work, I can't stand it at night time trying to back up a trailer because the screen floods the interior with so much light it makes it hard to see my mirrors, I have a note book in my center console I use to cover the screen for that reason, I wish manufacturers would put a button on the dash to turn the screen off when it becomes a inconvenience like that.
In February the automaker ordered dealerships to stop selling the 2023 Colorado and Canyon trucks that were already on dealer lots until problems could be fixed. Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones not to have too many issues.
It seems like a pretty solid truck. The "cruise control" thing sucks big time, makes no sense, except to make the buyer upgrade to the higher trim. Most car companies play games like that nowadays.
I have a 2024 gmc canyon at4 and have no issues. My only gripe is the wireless charging, but it came with the package. My truck has been awesome in the off roading in deep sand on the beach with the stock, Goodyear territory A-T tires. I get good fuel economy for a truck the same or maybe a little better sometimes than my Roush Ranger that I had. I get 19 to 20 in combination of city and highway driving and if I’m on a trip using mostly interstate I’ve seen 23 MPG. A lot of that depends on how aggressive you are with the throttle and how fast your traveling between 65 and 70 MPH is where I got those numbers occasionally 75 mph.
Colorado and Canyon look pretty good. Sure they have similarities to Tacoma but still very different. With the trail boss I just think with a mid tier trim, chevy could’ve made led headlights standard and gave it a dampened tailgate and cruise control. The cost increase would’ve been negligible.
Andre is the go to joke for not having cruise. LOL. I do feel the pain with GM quality, My 2024 Silverado has problems which should not be with 80K truck.
That interior fan event is a feature - It's called "Afterblow." It keeps your HVAC from getting smelly due to the condensation from the A/C causing mold.
@@DH-mf2lv Only fools buy extended warrantees, as 99.9% of the time the warranty is more money than the possible repairs that you may or may not incur! Lol
Andre! You should be able to get In contact with your dealership and they can contact techline connect and should be able to put cruse control on your truck, it would be a vin specific upgrade I believe it would be possible
You want a bit better MPG, go add 4 psi. Your screen shown 33/34 at 54f outside. You could get away just fine with 38psi, but as spring/summer approaches. you'll need to decide to let them go up to 40 and air down as the days/nights get warmer to keep them there. I have a '23 ZR2 and the 285/70R17 and run 37, but thinking of bumping them up. I did a stress test run to Seattle and back and in the cold, they got down to 32/33 naturally with the 31-33f air. I wanted the lower pressure to air down them just a bit on their own for the slush on 25 and 90 heading west.
When people say that one thing looks like another, like in this case, it blows my mind at how untrue I see it to be. Took some time but the front end has grown on me due to the fact that it looked “busy”, not ugly. For sure one of the best stances for any factory midsize. Toyota trucks tend to have big fenders and baby tires that look sucked into the body like 70s land yachts.
Own a 23 TB Nitro Yellow myself. Its a little more optioned out. Adaptive cruise. Blind spot detection, 360 cam, stowflex tailgate, trailering pkg. I absolutely love it. Andre, you should not have been charged for labor on your HO tune. There is a TSB with op codes for the service dept to bill the labor to warranty. It should absolutely not be customer pay. The ourchase of the tune as an accessory is one thing but Chevy has said it doesnt charge for the labor. Your dealer F'd you man.
Love the styling, gold color and power on this Colorado. And I do think this truck will be reliable, but that day is likely after the mid-cycle refresh that will occur 2 or 3 years from now. Same for the Tacoma. By then, the bugs will be worked out. And, they'll be a lot more willing to negotiate the price because it won't be the latest and greatest, gotta have it "toy" on the auto lots anymore.
I like chevy colorado because it's affordable, and full gas truck. The repair bills on these trucks are crazy though, you have to pull everything to change sensors, thermostat etc etc. No easy access anywhere
@@thewireman134 lmao nah you should stop 😂 I've delt with gms quality and so have my friends and co worker had to work on them as well wtf from die hard bow ties now they're burning trash 😂
Great video, thanks guys. Way over hearing about the cruise control though. It garnered a chuckle when he first bought its like the bad dig that won’t die. You can have the one I don’t use in my car.
Had a similar problem with my 23 Ram where it took 4 repair attempts before they fixed some bad startup noise and low mpg. Was very close to invoking my state's lemon law.
I love the Colorado. The problem is that GM started stacking incentinves on the Full-Size trucks in October of last year, and in November of 23 I purchased a 2023 GMC Sierra Elevation for only a few thousand more then what Andre paid for his Colorado.
@danielrn133 Your point would be valid if the midsized trucks were actually midsized. They are huge and heavy beasts. My CCSB Sierra is only 110 pounds heavier then Andre's Colorado Trail Boss. Also I would have purchased a Colorado had it been cheaper but the headroom on almost all midsized trucks is poor
So, what happens if you put that truck outside in the hot air and not drive it for a week? Does the HVAC fan kick on and off until it kills your battery? I don’t like things that run when the engine isn’t, at least after a few minutes of being shut off.
And you get a 3.8L NA V6, not an overstressed I4 that's gonna pop in 4 or 5 years.
Same! I got a 23 for 38k and while I haven't gotten to go off pavement, I love it. Definitely the most comfortable seats I've ever had in a vehicle.

You mean they never leave the dealer lots? Honestly I haven’t seen one of these on the road, but I’m not watching for them. 😅

Yeah like the junkyard before they hit 100,000 miles.

I agree,so complacent with their colors . I'd like to see two or three wildly new colors each year. Things like Sage, tangerine, emerald, Copper etc
The truck looks better than the other trucks in its class.
The reason you see those colors are because they are the cheapest for manufacturers to produce.

My wife bought new Taco in 23, but if it was me I’d go for the Nissan. Still relatively simple.
My neighbor has a new Nissan truck, looks awesome. It's fully loaded. He got it for a steal.
Definitely something to be said for that
I am considering the Frontier too
You have a smart wife.
The 23 taco is still the old one correct still simple and nice
Interesting. You're right about the ZR2. I went to look at one a couple of months ago, thinking if I liked the new Colorado I would order a Trail Boss. When I looked at the ZR2 I realized it was pretty much ready to go off road as is. The lift, tires, lockers, some skid plates, the off road pages, etc. There was nothing I had to do to it, unlike almost any other truck I've bought in the past. I brought it home with me. I kind of consider it the Colorado version of a Raptor, or at least close to it. Loving the truck so far.
Saw a zr2 Colorado at Home Depot. It really looks badass compared to any midsize truck. No mistaking it as anything else.
It's a TRUE factory-built offroader. It can't do what it can't do, but what it CAN do has been made bulletproof.
It wouldn't surprise me if the the AC turns the blower motor on to dry the evaporator coils after usage. Prevents mold which gives that musty smell.
That's exactly what it is doing.
Vehicle can be sitting for days and the fans will still kick on
Exactly what it's doing, except it should only do it once and for no more than 5 minutes.
Yup, it said a so in the owners manual
It's all good as long as your battery has 13.7 Volts, LOL
The ac fan kicks on to get moisture out of the system so it doesn’t ever smell funky like old ac units.

The price of those 2024 Tacomas are super expensive.
The 3rd gen, with port injection was the most unrefined engine in the world
I took delivery of a 2024 Colorado Z71 just a few weeks ago. Not bad.
Thank you for this real life experience. I’m buying the GMC AT4 which is just super similar with more luxury

My list of issues with my AT4X
Cruise control the vehicle brakes for no reason, the display switches from miles per hour to kilometers on it's own, blind spot monitoring on passenger indicates something is there that isn't then when I pass a vehicle I doesn't even register, windshield whistles when going highway speeds, cameras sometimes just stop working, sunroof thumps whenever it rains, heat doesn't work unless setting above 78 degrees, and with trips that last more that 20 mins I get a really strong smell of burning motor oil.
Love the ride quality but way to many issues and time to move on. It really like the vehicle but can't live with so many issues on a new vehicle. If GM can't get right systems that have been around for over a decade then I am very worried for the super cruise
Pedestrians call it super bruise…
Big Brother prefers you comply.

If they really spent the time fixing the tech side correctly, this truck would stand out much more
Amen to that.
Mechanically this thing beats anything I've owned. Data and technology wise... It sucks,
Don't forget about cracked engine blocks that GM had to issue a massive recall for 😂
I have to agree with Nathan on the Nissan Frontier choice. It is a better mid sized truck overall.
TFL Andre the way I would spec my Colorado Trail Boss $42,040 MSRP
1) Convivence 1 - required for tech package comes with rear sliding window and cruise control, rear defrost
2) Convivence 2 - required for tech package comes with power driver seat, slow fall tailgate, tailgate storage
3) Safety package - REAR CROSS TRAFFIC BRAKING, outside heated power adjustable side mirrors, rear park assist beep, BLIND ZONE STEERING ASSIST WITH TRAILERING
4) Tecnology Package - ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, HD SURROUND VISION, 360 cameras great for off-roading and parking, REAR PEDESTRIAN ALERT,
5) ADVANCED TRAILERING PACKAGE - INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER, IN-VEHICLE TRAILERING APP, TRAILERING PACKAGE with receiver and 4/7 pin connector
The reason I would get this package is because I would add the skip plates, running boards, tonneau cover, floor liners, LED bulbs, Beg Rug, Weather Tech bed Liner, all later so not to have over $5K more on the 6yr truck loan.
2023 Colerados in Canada are under a recall and stop sale for daytime running lights. Was supposed to pick up my ZR2 last week and they won't release it. Gm still has not got a software update to fix the recall. 37 days so far. Gm is pretty slow in getting things done.

Colorado ZR2 is the best looking midsize/small truck & the only one I’d consider besides a Ranger Raptor

I just love the looks of this truck.
I agree with Nathan 100%
I would have thought the cracked blocks should have been the elephant in the room....

You are very blessed. Everyone else has not been that fortunate. Did you by chance look at a Frontier Pro model with the V6 engine? I know a guy that had a previous gen Tacoma. He likes the Frontier much more. I (personally) still prefer a full size truck with a V8 engine.
Not sure why everyone keeps complaining about the engine sound. The turbo whirls at low RPM sound rad.
The Colorado is very nice, I just don’t trust GM reliability.
Honestly every manufacturer has so many issues with each car built. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don’t.
Nathan always being a market renegade picking the Nissan vs. the newer GM and Toyota midsize models
Andre. Your truck looks so Mean! I got my new Sierra, but want your truck now!😮
I would consider myself lucky if the rear backup camera in my Ford F250 didn't work, I can't stand it at night time trying to back up a trailer because the screen floods the interior with so much light it makes it hard to see my mirrors, I have a note book in my center console I use to cover the screen for that reason, I wish manufacturers would put a button on the dash to turn the screen off when it becomes a inconvenience like that.
Way to much light, carry a bigger micro fiber towel to put over it. '21 Gladiator..1st vehicle with a backup camera.
You can probably dim the screen… lol
@@BossMan_Jerm it's at its lowest dim setting
Mirrors? What are mirrors? LOL.
In February the automaker ordered dealerships to stop selling the 2023 Colorado and Canyon trucks that were already on dealer lots until problems could be fixed. Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones not to have too many issues.
Andre do a transmission flush and get a sample to have fluid tested. Be interested to see results of fluid comparison to new fluid.
Yeah I'd like to see comparative samples from several trucks with varies miles
Exactly, my torque converter started to fail and shutter around 50,000 kms on my 2017.
Time will tell if they fixed the issue.
What issues? Even the 2024 Tundra has problems.
I have an 07 Colorado with the 5 cyl and love it. I have cruise control and have NEVER used it
That interior fan event is a feature - It's called "Afterblow." It keeps your HVAC from getting smelly due to the condensation from the A/C causing mold.
Andres blue power boost was the best truck imo
Andre nice truck great video however I need cruise control to drive long trip on highways
I got the 2024 Colorado Z71 in blue. I took off the air dam and painted that light grey bumper black. Looks way more like a ZR2 in the front. 🎉
Interesting to listen to. I bought mine about 2 weeks before TFL got theirs. 15k with no issues. 14.9mpg due to a lot of towing a wake boat.
I just picked up my 24 Colorado Z71 2 days ago! The best part about it, is that mine has cruise control!😂
Sorry Andre!
Hope you purchased an extended warranty.
Did you consider the Frontier with the big V6 (non turbo) engine?
Apparently you didn’t watch this video before you purchased your new truck😢
@@DH-mf2lv Only fools buy extended warrantees, as 99.9% of the time the warranty is more money than the possible repairs that you may or may not incur! Lol
@@DH-mf2lv Apparently you missed the video where Andre’s truck had to save the broken Toyota! Lol
I think I would go the Frontier SV long bed route if I was looking for a mid size. You can get that for around $35k new.
This engine is a BOSS though.. and you get Google on board. No way with the Nissan
Why is google in your truck seen as a good thing? Genuinely asking.
@@thewireman134ehh no lol gm quality control is so bad now it's not good. Stupidity of putting everything on a touch screen....
@@crisikingful it works fine for 16k. I don't see the issue... stop looking for faults that aren't there
@@thewireman134 lmao nah you should stop 😂 I've delt with gms quality and so have my friends and co worker had to work on them as well wtf from die hard bow ties now they're burning trash 😂
The Tacoma has 95% of the Hawai’i market (shared with the 4Runner)
Honestly, I'm glad I held on to my 2021 ZR2. No OTA and I'm actually glad!
Great video, thanks guys. Way over hearing about the cruise control though. It garnered a chuckle when he first bought its like the bad dig that won’t die. You can have the one I don’t use in my car.
My new Ford Maverick hybrid is a steal and it has cruise and cost $31,000 out the door .
It’s a total different vehicle. Good for what it is but not ladder frame
You basically have a Focus with a missing trunk lid and stilts. It’s not a truck at all.
Maverick used to be a steal. No more
Had a similar problem with my 23 Ram where it took 4 repair attempts before they fixed some bad startup noise and low mpg. Was very close to invoking my state's lemon law.
What was the reason for both issues. I’m having similar issues with my 19
@@Hondatitan69If the dealer can be believed the factory installed the belt wrong and it damaged some pulleys and/or the water pump.
I love the Colorado. The problem is that GM started stacking incentinves on the Full-Size trucks in October of last year, and in November of 23 I purchased a 2023 GMC Sierra Elevation for only a few thousand more then what Andre paid for his Colorado.
With cruise control?
People who want Colorados, Tacomas, and Rangers don't want a full size no matter the cost so it doesn't even matter.
@@CACressida yup
@danielrn133 Your point would be valid if the midsized trucks were actually midsized. They are huge and heavy beasts. My CCSB Sierra is only 110 pounds heavier then Andre's Colorado Trail Boss. Also I would have purchased a Colorado had it been cheaper but the headroom on almost all midsized trucks is poor
@@joshuahedrick somebody needs to smack you around with your irrelevant comments about your full-size truck
So, what happens if you put that truck outside in the hot air and not drive it for a week? Does the HVAC fan kick on and off until it kills your battery? I don’t like things that run when the engine isn’t, at least after a few minutes of being shut off.
Maybe it’s smart enough to stop if the battery gets below a certain voltage? 🤷🏼♂️
Especially up north where we go from 80 to 20 overnight, sounds like a jump to me
People drive this in Arizona where it's over 115°in the Summer. It's OK. The Silverado has had this over 5 years.
Andrey and Nathan, really good and informative video! Thanks.
