      @@RoryOnAir both of you are quite literally awesome- in that i'm awed by your respective career paths , and the quality of videos you both make about such a great place as Auskerry. Your whole family seem lovely, and clearly have toughed it through quite a range of difficult circumstances between island life, age and health, thanks for sharing.

    Great piece o storytelling Rory. I probably won’t be out on Auskerry again but the memories are there . The Marbeth, lots o mackerel, steering into the slip , piping competitions great crack wi pipers, drummers, various boat crews, and very special hospitality from your Mum and Dad. A bit o singing,”The Beleana” comes to mind. ‘‘Twas a privilege to have been part o it. Good luck t all o ye.

      Billy Jolly those were wonderful days Billy - I remember the Marbeth well and the fabulous whaling song. They were always one of the summer highlights when you all came out. Your creepie stool is in pride of place in our front room too - reminds me of home. All the best to you and hope to see you at new year. Rory

    Thanks Rory, I love islands & lighthouses. Only 4 biggish Orkney Islands to visit including Auskerry, Swona, Muckle Skerry & Calf of Eday. Avian Flu prevented our planed visits during August 2022. Hopefully we will get a second chance but vlogs like these certainly help. 379 Scottish, Welsh & English islands summited sp far plus 482 lighthouses.

    Indeed a brilliant video . You had a beautiful childhood living on the haven . Like you I’m a aviation fanatic , I still go outdoors to peer skywards when I hear an aeroplane overheard , be rest assured it’s a lifelong habit , I’m 65 yrs old and been doing it for the last 60yrs ! , so it’s not going to end soon I hope . I really enjoy your videos , as a Jabiru pilot in Australia , I look forward to your next one . Thanks for sharing .

    Great video .... very insightful...... for me it all started on a family holiday age 12, my father tooks us camping on the Isle of white. Whilst there he organised a flight in a Blanik Glider from Bembridge aerodrome.
    Once I pass my PPL I have promised my Dad a flight back to the IOW as our first proper cross country.

      Yes it’s been in my blood for a long time and it’s only now I’m going to realise it for real. Your videos along with Plane Old Ben’s, Flying Reporter etc have really inspired me to pursue it. As I mentioned the other day, life will always get in the way but you have to make positive strides at the right time to make it happen..... (like taking the wife out for a few drinks when we have dispatched the kids to the grandparents and dropping the hint..... and getting a positive reaction) keep up the VLOGS, they will certainly supplement my learning.

    Hi Rory I’m the person who commented on the last video and I can happily confirm that I will be soon starting flying lessons with mainair in in the ikarus c42! I just wanted to know whether or not you can still use the nppl(m) if you go on to get a more advanced license like a lapl or a ppl?

    • @RoryOnAir
      @RoryOnAir  6 років тому +1

      James Tarantula Hi James - That’s great news! I’m delighted you have taken up learning with Mainair. Do come and say hello when you see me up there. Unfortunately the window for using the NPPL (m) to get a LAPL has closed but I wouldn’t be surprised if something else comes along by the time you get your licence. I would press on and get the NPPL m, enjoy flying the microlights and gain some pilot experience. Whether you want to do more training or not will become obvious at that point.

      Darren Weston well I didn’t take the controls on this one, although I have briefly before. It’s clearly a very capable aircraft and if you want to be able to land and take off on a very short, rough surface then I think it’s a winner. Let me know how you get on - I’d love to build something.

    I did manage to find and land at your parents house. Sadly if I have the correct Island..... MFS2020 does not have the lighthouse there, but your parents house is or an interpretation of the buildings for lighthouse...I took photos if you want them just need a email. Address I had it on live time thus it was more sunset. I should have started in the morning. Land home airfield I flew over on the way.

      Al Watt there’s an email address on my website - www.roryonair.com - I don’t want to post it here because it might attract spam but I’d love to see the pics.
