Flight to Lee on Solent Part One. EuroFOX 912iS Rotax Microlight Aircraft

- In 'Part One' of this two part episode, I fly to Lee on Solent Airport to meet my brother to take him for a flight along the south coast. En route I have to battle my way past others passing directly in the opposite direction. I'm kept safe by the ATC operators at Bournemouth Airport, but let down by my powers of observation.

I need to get to Lee again soon. I love it that some still dress for travel Geoff, always smart looking and always smart videos. Love the entertainment value in these excellent edited vids. Thank you.
You are far too kind sir! 🫡 Thank you so much 🙏🏻
I really liked your expression of satisfaction on take off and it was quite a climb out. Excellent video as always Geoff! 😎
😄 flying never gets old!
Thanks so much for your support 🙏🏻
Great video again, the controller at Lee was really nice.
Thank you so much! 😄👍🏼
The team at Lee-on-Solent have always been welcoming & accommodating. It is a great airfield & has easy access to the beach (if the sun should ever shine 🙄)
Great to see you in the air again, Geoff. I agree that unseen traffic in close proximity can be very unnerving especially on an opposite track. I recently downloaded the AviNet app and viewed a recent trip in their 3D setting (amazing) and couldn't believe the traffic that passed so close to me that I was totally unaware of! 😱
I love old planes and my choice (with a modest budget) would be a Cessna Bird Dog 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OMG 😱 I think I remember a story about a civilian landing a Cessna Bird Dog on an aircraft carrier in the 1970’s 👍🏼 An excellent choice 👏🏼
I’m still searching for the best conspicuity device. I have both ADSB & PAW but neither are without their quirks & foibles 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for your continued support sir 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏻
My favourite aircraft is 50/50 between the PeaBee and the NiNE. You don't need a faster plane, you need to experience a flexwing flight. It's all about the journey.
Absolutely true sir! Definitely the purest experiences are often the least complicated 👍🏼
Fab video yet again! I am assuming this was on Monday 24th June? I was in the circuit behind you in a PA28 (no not that one I had just joined downwind for 23 when you landed) and parked back at Phoenix Aviation and noticed CG! Wanted to come and say hello but had to get back for a school run!
My word! It was indeed! I was meeting my brother for a flight & coincidentally he also had to get back for the school run 😊 Maybe next time then 🤞🏼
Thanks very much for watching & also for commenting. It’s a small world! 😅
My favourite is the sportcruiser, a very adaptable aircraft, full of all the toys needed for safety
Amazing choice! 👍🏼 I think that’s what @ShortField flies & he says it’s awesome 😎
I keep looking...prices seem to be depleting now..A lot of plane for the money
@@chownmike Definitely, a great aircraft I believe 👍🏼
Was the inner child showing through at 6:30. Made me smile.
😂 absolutely! As I’m sure you can attest to, there is no greater a feeling! We are so fortunate to be able to enjoy the experience of flying 😊
Winning the Euro Lottery would see me with a Pilatus PC12 NGX
Yes indeed!!! Take the whole family on trips with you, arrive quickly & in style 😎 Far more practical than a DC3!!!
Another enjoyable video, thanks for sharing.
I still plan to visit Lee at some point, need to get my head around the best route, either through Middle Wallop MATZ, or a longer route around the air spaces in that area.
Thank you very much 😊🙏🏻
Have you planned the routes on SkyDemon? Sometimes I’m surprised that I don’t save huge amounts of time routing through airspaces. For the sake of a couple of minutes it’s easier & less stressful to just fly around them 🤷🏻♂️
@@FlyingDarkLord I have not yet planned them out, but you are probably right and it would only be like 5 mins extra to route around.
Glad you are getting some time to fly again.
@@SpectrumGeeks Thank goodness the rain has stopped… I hope the weather is kind to us, we deserve it after month of rain 😳
You've been cleaning and polishing Charlie Golf , that's where you've been all this time! 🚰 Our Sport-cruiser will be back in the air imminently, see you up there👋Steve & Lily
Hi Steve & Lily, I hope you are both keeping well 🤞🏼 CG is already dirty again 🤦🏻♂️ covered with bugs & farm dust 😤 Once your back in the air we’ll hopefully bump into each other again this season 🥳
The wife and I were just talking about you and the fact that we haven't seen a video from you in a while. Just got the lawn mowed and other yard work done and came in to watch youtube and to our delight noticed you had posted a new video. Excellent take off gaining speed for a nice climb out, then you smiled, lol. Hope to see more of your flights soon. I'm in Missouri and hope to get my Kitfox 4 up soon. The FAA takes their sweet time for everything aviation related here. Cheers
I hope you’re in the air soon, it always seems that bureaucracy is lurking in the background ready to stand in the way of our fun 😔
Thanks for watching too 👍🏼…your wife will be pleased you got the chores done first 😄
The weather is improving here, so hoping more content opportunities will avail themselves 🤞🏼 I really appreciate your continued support 🙏🏻
‘Gonna need a bigger boat’ Geoff.......nice take off 🤓
Gonna need a bigger boat!!! 😂👍🏼
I learnt that takeoff from a good friend 😉🤭
Enjoyed that! Lee on Solent was the place I took my first ever flight from, DH Dominee, in 1961! Favourite Aircraft, Sea Harrier Mk 1 - Eat your heart out! Thanks!
Excellent choice!!! Sea Harrier is a phenomenal aircraft & I’m sure none of us will forget its role in the 80’s… I remember how cutting edge it seemed at the time 😮👍🏼
Something similar happened to me when I flew into Goodwood a couple of months ago in the Lasham motorglider. I did the overhead join while another aircraft called up about 8 miles out. I descended on the deadside and, by the time I reached the downwind leg, the other aircraft had to extend out to create more room and time. Not much I could do really. Goodwood is a nice place to visit and it has a wonderul cafe. I should try Lee on Solent at some point this summer. Incidentally, I have a soft spot for the DC3 too but, if I somehow won the lottery, I would go for a Lockheed Electra Junior.
That Lockheed has a very similar look to the DC3 so I can totally appreciate why you’re into that 👍🏼
I love the EuroFOX, there’s nothing like low & slow, but wouldn’t mind stretching my legs a bit further now… Eve’s getting itchy feet too! 😄 Also, as you say, can be a bit embarrassing at some of the larger airfields!
That was a zoom climb and a half 😂. Enjoyed that sir keep them coming!
😂 You probably get a faster rate in the Ellipse, but it still made me smile 👍🏼
Excellent and so much fun to watch. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for coming back 👍🏼
It's great to see you back Geoff.🙂
That’s very kind! Summer is finally here & so I’m hoping I’ll be able to fly more & produce some content for videos! 🤞🏼😊👍🏼
DH Beaver, or Beach stagger-wing spring to mind as two beautiful aircraft..
Oh yes!!! 🤩 You are proper old skool!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
If I had won that £180M last week my Aviation dream purchases would have been : A Chipmunk, (The type I learnt to fly on,) plus a Stearman, a Piper Arrow Turbo and a couple of Warbirds : Spitfire Mk9 and a P51D. Sigh.....one can dream. Oh and an airstrip with a large secure hangar......Sigh ! 😊
Oh hell yeah! Totally a mustang & spitfire 🕺🏼
I’d quite like to live in one of those aviation communities like they have in America. Hangars for garages & taxiways for roads!
@@FlyingDarkLord Understood old chap, me too. A British Spruce Creek. Lol.
Your face was a picture as you took off no doubt how much you were enjoying the experience.. Thank you again..Sadly. I can only fly in the sim MFS2020 I love the DC3 and the Caravan...Have spent months learning to fly the Airbus A320 in sim as perfectly as possible.. Do like your EuroFox
I love it 😄 & the EuroFOX is just a wonderful & capable aircraft!
It is a very simple aircraft though, I’ve tried MSFS & that is crazy complex 😬 it’s much easier in my little plane… fewer buttons & controls to worry about 👍🏼
awesome
Thank you kindly 🙏🏻
Another excellent video sir. I flew over the famous Stoney Cross on Saturday for the first time.
I really appreciate you watching, very many thanks 🙏🏻
Could you see all three runways? I hope you thought of us when you passed over it! 😄👋🏼👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Yeah I could see the runways. Funny thing is I did when I passed over Stoney Cross.
@@Andy-Eagle 😊👍🏼
Have to say would love a classic J3 Cub if I came into a bit of cash
That’s a great choice! A supremely capable aircraft 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Always think that Lee controller sounds like Rob from Goodwood
OMG! 🫨 I thought that too! 😄 I’m glad it’s not just me! It took me about three watches of the video to place it & then I realised 😂
@@FlyingDarkLordI did accuse him of being Rob a few months ago and he denied it. Still not convinced it isn't him!
@@ghoflyer 😄
DC-3 and for personal use, Marchetti SF260, I got to do aerobatics is one.
Good choices!!! That SF260 also has a huge performance range, so perfect for all sorts of fun!!! 😄👍🏼
Good watch again. That's me at the beginning. Lock the hangar, get in, DOH! Usually glasses. While on that subject, assume those are prescription sunglasses - any good? what brand?
Just when I was all settled in!!! 😂
Those are my favourite prescription Sunglasses. They are made by an Aviation sunglasses company called Bigatmo. They are a bit pricey, but perfect for aviation. They seem to know their stuff & have been impressed by them. Each set is custom made, so it takes sometime to get them. They are my second set as I damaged the first 🤦🏻♂️
I'll take a look. Thanks. Are they fairly light? Hate heavy sunnies.
@@chrisa7237 They are, & the arms fit nicely under a headset & can be removed & replaced with a headset in situ 👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Do you have a pilot aware? You've got an iPad and I'm told the Skyview will also plot targets from it. Game changer and wouldn't be without it now.
@@chrisa7237 I have PAW… not loving it to be honest. It’s been a bit unreliable & is the reason that Yellow ‘Caution’ denunciation is constantly on my instrument screen on the bottom right hand side. There’s a ‘network error’ & in my experience, it’s not really been that user-friendly 😔 I had high hopes. I’m going to get the guys at EuroFOX to take a look at it, but 🤷🏻♂️
I am afraid my dream aeroplane is yours, so when you win the lottery please put my name in the raffle!
It is an awesome aircraft! It has brought me a world of pleasure & freedom 🙏🏻👍🏼
Excellent as always Geoff. I don’t suppose you are booked to attend Middle Wallop’s Wings & Wheels event on 13th July? One to keep in mind for future years if not, as it’s usually a really good day out.
Thank you very much sir! 🙏🏻
The Middle Wallop event sounds awesome! It’s also within spitting distance of our airfield!
I went to Farway Common for a similar (smaller) event & it was excellent!
I would have love to have attended on the 14th, but Eve has booked lunch with friends… I’m gonna see if I can somehow engineer it though 🤔
@@FlyingDarkLord It's a good chance to visit what is apparently, Europe's largest grass airfield. About 50 aircraft & a few hundred cars there last year. I think aircraft booking has closed for MWW&W this year, per the event website. They might make an exception for possibly the shiniest EuroFox in the south! Farway Common looked interesting, that's one to keep in mind for future years. Henstridge W&W on 24th August is also a good local one to keep in mind.
@@OllyFrampton Thanks so much! 😎 My word, you have your finger on the pulse of the aviation social calendar 👍🏼 Henstridge is also just around the corner for me, so I’m sticking that one in the diary!!! 🕺🏼
Will you be visiting Stoke Golding for the fly in ?
Ooo, I’ve never been there before 🤔 I’ll have to do a bit of research on that… thanks for the heads-up 🙏🏻👍🏼
What is your primary flight display? A Garmin? Don't think they are available on the Aerotreks here in the States
I have a complete Dynon system fitted… I think Dynon are an American company so would hope they are readily available to you 🤔🤞🏼
What was your speed downwind and over the threshold? My CT is 50kt and 45kt so I feel your pain of holding others up.
Looking back at the video it looks like I was around 80 knots on the downwind & 60 knots over the threshold 😬 They were all very polite & accommodating though, but I felt like all eyes were on me 😳😄 At least we have plenty of time to think & watch the world go by 😄👍🏼
Where did you get this small strap holding left and right part of seatbelts?
I made it from web straps & clips from Amazon. It stops the straps falling off my shoulders in flight & hopefully in the event of an emergency 🤞🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord I’ve got the same problem. Good idea, thanks
What's the tie about?!
That is an excellent question! Sadly, I don’t think anyone really knows 🤔 I believe it takes its roots from a fashion started in the early 1600’s, but it’s been an established feature of men’s wear throughout history. If anyone else has any information then please feel free to comment 👍🏼
The weather is improving & perhaps when it gets a bit warmer it may feature less in my videos 😊
Thanks for watching though 🙏🏻
@@FlyingDarkLord
Nooooo!
Don’t lower your standards!
@@johnstarkie9948 It’s not going anywhere! 😄👍🏼
Don't get a flexwing then 🐌🐌🐌😂
😂😂😂 The ultimate way to see the countryside, but yup, when it comes to the circuit the flexwing is definitely the tractor in the way when you’re late for work!!! 👍🏼
@@FlyingDarkLord Catch 'dave bromley microlight adventures' flexwing trip from Bodmin to Scilly Isles. So pretty from the air😎 Is it within your range?
@@CD-ie3fp Thanks for the recommendation 👍🏼 I’ll check it out 🤓
You appeared to be off the coast as you called ‘Downwind’ for rwy 23 at Lee, that is too early for the call. Call to be made abeam the numbers so everybody knows where you are.
Thank you so much
