I have a 1950 Ferguson TEA (gasoline) in Canada. It is very similar to the tractor my Dutch grandfather bought upon coming to Canada. The Canadian government advised him that to farm in Canada, he must have a tractor, so he bought a 1952 Ferguson. Poor fella was known to yell "Whoa" in Dutch when he forgot how to stop the tractor, as he had only ever farmed with horses.
I learned to drive on a wee grey fergie 60 years ago . It was petrol parrafin . I can still smell that exhaust . Really nice videos , thanks for sharing them .
Hey Rory! Many years ago we (the Stephenson family, who lived on the isle of Taransay as part of Castaway 2000) came to visit you on Auskerry. Really loved watching this documentary! I seem to remember you had a flight simulator back then, and wanted to become a pilot, so it's great to see that you're following you dream!
Hi Ollie, nice to hear from you. Mum remembers your visit well and asks how your parents are doing? I did have a dodgy flight sim back then - I always loved flying. I hope you guys are all doing well.
Thank you Rory. Thank you for sharing your experiences here and in the air. Thank you for taking the time to make the films. Thank you for inspiring us to travel and to learn to fly. Thank you for being simply human, down to earth, cheerful and non-political at a time when the rest of the world seems to have gone a little mad. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this lovely comment Shaun. It’s very kind of you and I’m delighted you enjoyed it. I’m back flying now and I can’t wait to share that with you guys here as well. Stay safe and stay cheerful! Rory
I love this video. The Man has excellent taste in Tractors. Both very reliable. My 1st tractor I drove alone at age 12 was a 49 like his 50. The 135 is Identical to one I ran in my 20's. Both never let me down and always started on the coldest winter days in Utah's Ranch county. If it didn't we would say jokingly but usually true. Operator error. You need to know how to talk to the old girl. 😁👍
Great series, nice to see Orkney and it’s not blowing a gale. One of my most memorable microlighting flights was as part of fly UK and making the crossing in a 582 skyranger
I really like watching all your flying videos, but this series was equally enjoyable. As an aviation enthusiast and a landscape photographer they tick all the boxes! What an amazing place Auskerry is. I felt the emotion too as that wonderful old Fergie left the island. Thanks to you and Lizzie for sharing all your experiences!
Love the story of the Fergie. I love getting my moneys worth when I make a big purchase. But it’s also good that Fergie will have another life after Auskerry. Love your vids. love all the wildlife. It’s their home too. Simple slow life is how life should be. Thank you.
There. Is a very interesting story in how you left the Island/Scotland to getting a career with the Beeb then working towards being a pilot. Keep the videos coming you are a natural
Awesome videos Rory, does make me home sick i must admit. I'm hoping to start my LAPL training this year IF everything returns to normal at the Leicestershire Aero club, might catch you there for a coffee at some point. Now to try and get 'Cheerio' out of my head after binge watching the last 35 of your videos! Cheerio.
Hey Gary - sorry for the slow reply. I don't always get notified by UA-cam when new comments get posted and I missed this. I hope you're well and good luck with your LAPL training. I really enjoyed doing mine. I can't believe you've binged them all - there should be an award for that! Cheerio. :)
Rory, watched all 3 videos on a large screen, heard through headphones and in a darkened room. My companion was a glass of red wine. BEAUTIFUL. Should be broadcast on National TV to soothe the nation's mental ELF.
@@RoryOnAir WOW. A reply from the man himself. Hi Rory. Yes my set up is VERY ENJOYABLE although I do try to limit myself to once or twice a week as it can be injurious to the circumference of the gut. Too many people watch videos on smart phones and tablets. Not immersive enough for me. My nights out are now a good night in. Good luck with your Heli Training. If anyone is going to succeed to professional pilot, you will.
@@J2onton I'm sorry it took so long! UA-cam don't always notify me of every comment so I've been going back over them and saw yours. I agree about watching things on a bigger screen with decent speakers - makes it much more enjoyable. That's very nice of you about the pilot thing - I'm enjoying the training and hoping to be successful. All the best and thanks for watching.
I follow your channel for the flying videos, but I’ve been totally captivated by your three Auskerry videos. So well put together and really showcase this beautiful place and the life there.
They made such a lovely sound. Dad’s had a musical clinking noise as the hand crank handle knocked against the casing. Very evocative of my childhood. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Rory and your wife for this series. The farm life you showed, the tractor that was part of your life brought back memories of my young life on farms. Having the ocean right there too would be so relaxing. Be careful, still use caution & stay safe.
Amazing series Rory. Beautiful scenery well filmed and excellently edited. I can see why you really enjoy going home. Hopefully it can be by air next time. Thanks for taking the time to produce such a brilliant set of films.
Hey Rory... I’m a ML pilot, and noted you mentioned flight training is resuming this week... I can’t use the strip we’re at without a bit more time with the instructor, but haven’t yet heard that training can recommence. Is there a CAA article somewhere that details that? And great wrap up to the series... makes me want to visit the northern climes more often!
Dan Smith cheers Dan. We are, but only after a lot of detailed and extensive planning and measures put in place by Helicentre that’s been fully approved by the CAA. I think each training school will need to speak to the CAA themselves I’m afraid. I believe it’s only commercial training (ie for commercial pilot courses rather than PPL/ leisure) that’s resumed too.
John Price it’s even more tricky than that because you get the mail and he sails off and then you take it home and read it, discover it’s a bill and in the days before online banking you’d have to wait a month until the next mail trip to send the cheque off!
