A small part of me misses EQ. I poured thousands of hours into it in 00/01. I could never dedicate that much time to a video game ever again, but I have fond memories of the vastness and complexity of the world, all the mystery and places to explore, and the chills I got as limits were pushed.
Is this the final video from Flatts? Or will there be more EQ content in the future? I have watched every video, and really miss the cool content from the greatest game ever :)
the items are kind of like popular art when the creators are no longer alive, super satisfying video in that it brings me back to when I even first played the tutorial for this game
Boogoog also accidentally dropped a 10AC ring called the "Gem Encrested Ring" (later renamed to Gem "encrusted" ring and moved) during the first week of Kunark. I managed to snag one of these as a caster, with no idea of the significance of a ring with 10AC in those days - i think i sold it for 1200pp when it was probably worth 10x at the time.
The music makes me all mushy on the inside.... Have some of the best memories from this game. Made a ton of friends. And no matter how "old fashioned" the game got it was always this game I compared other games with after leaving EQ.
Man I really want to see this guy come back to UA-cam EQ was the best thing ever and my favorite class is a monk made my week when I saw a new vid of this guy sure do miss him
My 1999-2001 rogue got her JourneymanBoots off Drelzna. Took me 3 days of staying awake to get to my turn to kill her when camping them. One of the best moves I made in my EQ career.
Thanks for bringing me back on memory lane. Still have a lot of fond memories and a game that did it right before succumbing to business and player pressure.
Abashi’s Rod of Disempowerment pre nerf was an awesome monk wep, specially for pulling since it was insta cast, unlimited and removed buffs on the pulled mob.
This might be the best Everquest video I've ever seen. Congrats! The list is great, it's really close to what I would pick (except I might add Soulfire).
I was a guide from 1999 to 2001. So many memories, really miss my guildmates. I've been in many guilds on many mmorpgs since EQ but for some reason that first guild me and four other people I played with made is the one I miss the most. Here's to you Eternal Crusaders of Norrath (Amuka, Izz, Max, Haldolek, and Ash.)
Dude. I stumbled upon this and then went over to classic adventures. THANK YOU! IM SO HYPED WATCHING THESE. SO MUCH NOSTALGIA! I was younger when I started playing eq, so I'm learning alot!
My dad played this game when we were kids. He is playing right now for fun with a raiding guild. This popped up on my recommended and I went back and forth between my room and his room asking if he had some of the items. He has the Sceptre of Destruction, manastone on 2 characters, fungus covered great staff, guise of the deceiver, and the staff of forbidden rights he preaches is the best in the game. Cool to see something relatable and have my dad have a couple of these items
@@Cody1JZ Most of the ones in my guild were warriors for the purpose described. This didn't really start getting used by twink monks until it was changed to the moss covered branch when, as a 2HB (the second version) it was generally useless for warriors. two 1HB hitting as fast as the MCT did generated at least the minimum aggro per hit, and it held aggro exceptionally well on most raid targets.
There was a clicky faction adjuster that dropped from one of the court members near the Coldain king, it wasn't in the game long before it got removed. It did something like clicking to add +1000 faction for the target's faction, really nice.
@@ladyabaxa Yes, it was only around for one or two patches after launch. But luckily the original items weren't deleted from characters that earned them. Extremely rare and valuable.
Blade of the Black Dragon Eye! I have one of these on the Rathe server. The damage/ delay ratio of 14/24 gets this weapon replaced as the game moves on but for agro pull that sword served my warrior well into the Planes of Power expansion. The weapon proc envenomed breath generated a LOT of mob hate for some reason, and the weapon proc went off a lot. I could easily out agro warriors using Blade of carnage/ Bloodfrenzy combinations, and even warriors using the Blade of War that was 2H Slashing Atk Delay: 32, DMG: 48 Dmg Bonus: 104 AC: 50.
Glad to see Classic EQ is still going strong, but I played P99 to death already (started on the initial server 5 days after launch). Eventually the raiding just turned me off due to the number of guilds all competing for the same targets. While very similar to contested raid bosses on live, some people/guilds raided without regard for anyone else on the server in order to gear not just their main, but their primary alt, secondary alt, tertiary alt, and so on. That mindset, instances of early cheating (cough Nagafen first kill cough), and other problems like plat duping just ruined the experience in the end.
Twinks were one of the best parts of EQ for the first few years. None of the items had level restrictions so you could give the best items in the game that werent no trade to a level 1. Good times
Hey man I just discovered your channel and am slowly working through all your videos! I was an original EQ player way back in the day, and this is seriously making me want to come back and try this P99. I hope you keep doing what you are doing, your videos are great.
Great video, brings back good memories. I remember back in original EQ twinking a new Cleric with a manastone and a fungi tunic and powerleveling himself in Befallen using undead nukes. Great times. Really wish I had never traded the Manastone though, would love to still have that.
There were quite a few insta-click items where they added casting times. I had the Pegasus Feather Cloak (mage epic item) on my ranger for a long time, it was insta-click (cast Levitate) at first and you could use it to climb straight up, took a long time but you could use it to get to high ledges that you otherwise could not reach. it was also clickable on anyone, didn't have to be grouped. I levitated literally everyone I ran across. lol
I played classic EQ for only a week just so i could say i've played it but I really love your videos. That number 1 story was really interesting, thank you.
This video reminded me of all the shenanigans you had to do as a monk. I remember farming a bunch of clicky items to have to get by. Like getting myself a pair of Jboots to travel faster, farming balls of burlap yarn to be able to snare, and I'd always go to Cabilis to fight the non trainer version of Master Glox and apply intimidate to him, just so he could summon me outside of his locked room, so I could get away with his gate potion.
Monks had the most insane farms. I remember guys spending like 9 months on Treant Fists, and years farming for their Robe of the Lost Circle. I personally spent 4+ days straight without sleep to get my Gator-Scale leggings, and that seemed mild comparatively.
Hey Flatts I really enjoyed your Robe of The Whistling Fists video and all the work you put into it. It's crazy to think it came out 2 years ago. I appreciate your content and I think if you could make at least 1 video a month you would see your viewer count go through the roof.
Earthshaker! 12+ AA per pull during the PoP era pulling half of Plane of Fire using the Earthshaker and the warrior rampage ability as a soloing warrior was insane.
wow, the nostalgia in this video is for real. I remember several of these back when we played when EQ was new back in the day. EQ was the best game of this type and original still i think. It really captured the essence of an MMO. If i was a young lad still, id def be on project 99 for memories. lol some good times and some good friends.
Mage epic originally had unlimited charges I believe and you could reclaim the pet for mana. The Fungi staff was castable on anyone, not just yourself originally and the person didn't have to be in your group either. It murdered on PVP servers as it instantly snared people. You missed Lustrous armor too.
Lustrous Russet, was plate armor that chain classes could wear (like Rubi), it dropped in Plane of Fear and had no level requirement, so guilds would bring their level 1 twinks in to loot rots. This is why they added the level 46 req to zone into the alter planes, and I believe they also removed Lustrous.
I've still got my raid notebooks with loot note, raid points, hundreds of pages. Guild bank notes for necro coffin fees. Emergency phone numbers for monks and Necros in case of a planar raid wipe on a work night when we needed emergency corpse recovery assistance. Ahh the good old days.
One other perk of the pre-nerfed Circlet of shadow, that still make it more valuable then the AA introduced later with instant invis cast is the lack of re-use time. The trick you can do with the no re-cast time is it allow you to pull 1 mob from a point of a zone to another passing trought various mobs without aggroing them as long as they not see trought invis. Its nice to pull some named in tight area where it is impossible to kite them to a zone were you can.
Great video Flatts as always. The pre nerf terror forged mask combined with manastone was indeed very game breaking both were quickly nerfed. What about the quest for thex mallet / ring of the dead? A human monk (as could other race and class combos) very early on faction himself and acquire the ring from the dark elf necro&sk guild it also had the bind affinity charge and could be combined with a locket of escape. This was also available pre kunark whereas the locket was not.
Played this game for 8 years and my first and biggest memory always drifts back to being a n00b paladin furiously clicking a deepwater helm with its 10 second cast time for those sweet 100 hp heals while I tried to solo in Dreadlands lol.
lol reminds me of my early monk days using binding wound skill. People would ask me what I was doing (it makes the loot sound/crouch animation) and almost no other monks used it. Once the skill cap lifted, it was an amazing heal for monks and bandages were fairly cheap. While the healer meditated I'd also heal the group and people always laughed. It sucked but it was better than sitting on my thumb and roating.
Found your channel like 3 weeks ago and wasnt sure if you were still active. Been making my way through your monk videos, awesome stuff man, really really enjoy watching your episodes! Was thrilled to see you posted a new one, great job on this one as well!!
Cazic Thule gate potion was removed some time after the first expansion. Even though they didn't stack you could still own more than one so I kept a bag full of them on my character. It allowed you gate to cazic thule but with the added effect of being instant cast. It great for when you needed a quick escape because you fell down a hole in a dungeon or stuck in plane of hate as a melee because you disconnected in a raid and couldn't log back in to catch a ride out.
Don't forget Bladestorm, Katana of Steel Sleet. Warrior only 2hander that procs a strong rain spell. Drops either off Inny or CT I don't remember, until Temple SolRo patch IIRC
Holy moly.... I owned the majority of these items or created twinks with them back in 2002 - 2005. I never would have thought they'd become rare, nerfed, or non-existent. I had a monk/shadow knight with fungi tunic + twig if I recall correctly. My druid had the manastone. My shaman had the fungi staff which helped with cannibalism. I camped the ghoul assassin for over 48 hours for the guise of the deceiver for my bard. And all the #1 items on the list I'm pretty sure I had only ever seen on various Afterlife members on the Mithaniel Marr server when Thott the Bard was my icon as a 13 year old kid. This game basically ruined my life - You can't get back over 600 days of your life... Nor make up for a destroyed high school career that directly impacted your college progression. But, there was something magical about this game that will never be able to be replicated again. This was so impressive to watch knowing I at least owned and/or obtained some of the rarest items in the game at some point.
I played this for many years from around 1998 to around 2005 and still miss it from time to time. No other game has come close to the depth of engagement this had despite its many flaws and chunky graphics.
I played for 9 years after it was released. One item you didn't mention was the Longsword of Ethreal Energy. I don't remember the stats for the sword but the quest for it was with the Luclin release and was soon taken out. I had it as a dark elf SK and was helping my paladin friend get it. It was late at night and we had the quest all finished except for the final turn in. He was dead tired and said we can turn it in tomorrow. Unfortunately they took the quest out that night and he never got to tun in. I may still have it but I haven't logged for quite a while.
I am surprised Rod of Annihilation didn't even make the mentions... it was a game breaking caster item that basically turned a caster into top tier melee in pre-luclin exps.
the actual nerf to the moss covered twig, and several other low delay weapons was the fact that they were made offhand only, at 1st they were useable primary hand. They also removed, and or changed them from dropping in game.
I remember camping all of this stuff on the official servers. I played on E'ci and was lucky enough to be on many of the server firsts. To say that this game was a part of my life that is an understatement. I would love to go back and have the same social community. That is what made it worth it for me. Have a few of these on my account.
You forgot a very important item: The Vox Res stick (I forget the real name). Used from drop from Vox very early in Vanilla EQ (they had removed it well before the Plane of Fear revamp/Plane of Hate from what I recall), had 10 charges but you could do the vendor recharge trick. It was usable from inventory and allowed any player to cast resurrection. This item was -CRUCIAL- for high end raiding back in the day and even helped us snag some server/world firsts. You could use it to cheese past tons of trash by having a monk or SK drag some corpses of necromancers and clerics to a safe spot, then have them summon corpses of the raid and res (or use mages and summon living people). You would literally save hours of raid time doing this in some instances. Moss Covered twig was a damage beast, at least during Kunark era. A friend of mine let me borrow it in Selebis (the Trakanon dungeon). I was out-damaging an entire full party on my monk and stealing the XP from kills when we tested it. Runed Bolster Staff was removed for a similar reason. It was a 20/20 2 hander from what I recall during Kunark. I lent mine to another monk I knew and never saw it again when he quit lol I had the only Shroud of Longevity on the server, because we woke the Sleeper after it dropped from Ventari or whatever her name was. The server was so mad at us, accusing us of "war crimes" by shutting off the primal candy spout/warden loot. We were so farmed we used to give primal weapons to random NPCs in front of people to get the "thanks for the primal greatsword!" etc and make people mad we were basically tossing them away. So troll ;p
11:50 When I was in highschool the dark elf custom helm with old style graphics was such an intimidating and awesome look. I played on vallon zek red server, any whenever I saw that face I knew I was going to die. Fun times.
Staff of Forbidden Rites. Logged back in after many years and both of mine were discharged. Not to big of a deal now that druids have rez, but it was a pretty big deal back in the day.
Oh... I am not sure if you know this or not. but originally the Moss Covered Twig was both primary and secondary... that was until they realized the twig was comparable or more DPS then the monk epic itself. It does not get the damage bonus in secondary spot... but is good for pushing like you said in the video.
We miss you flats :(

Zilo from project 99 Blue here. I use to have the Scimitar of the Mistwalker which was a blast before it was nerfed. Unfortunately my brother logged into my account when I was semi retired from EQ and auctioned it off without my permission. I hope he is still enjoying those Elder Beads...
Breezeboot's Frigid Gnasher and Oakwynd come to mind. Been playing since 2000.
You're the only youtuber I have clicked the bell icon for. The moment I see something from you, I get all giddy. Thanks endlessly for introducing me to this utter masterpiece of a game, and all of the cool adventures along the way. Long live AG as well
anyone else go back every month to check to see if Flatts upload a new video?
Something like that... yeah lol.
Ikr, hope to see him back soon. I rewatch classic adventures every so often.
the items are kind of like popular art when the creators are no longer alive, super satisfying video in that it brings me back to when I even first played the tutorial for this game
Started playing a week after Velious came out. Haven't played in many years. The music still gets me. Thanks for the video.
The music makes me all mushy on the inside.... Have some of the best memories from this game. Made a ton of friends. And no matter how "old fashioned" the game got it was always this game I compared other games with after leaving EQ.
Man I really want to see this guy come back to UA-cam EQ was the best thing ever and my favorite class is a monk made my week when I saw a new vid of this guy sure do miss him
Finally something good comes out during this quanrantine.
hell yeah these videos are too rare, so true
My 1999-2001 rogue got her JourneymanBoots off Drelzna. Took me 3 days of staying awake to get to my turn to kill her when camping them.
One of the best moves I made in my EQ career.
Yuck.
Thanks for bringing me back on memory lane. Still have a lot of fond memories and a game that did it right before succumbing to business and player pressure.
Oh damn, nostalgia overload here but I just no longer have the time to get into a game like EQ.
Hope you are doing well man. Miss your videos.
Abashi’s Rod of Disempowerment pre nerf was an awesome monk wep, specially for pulling since it was insta cast, unlimited and removed buffs on the pulled mob.
Even w/ the what, 3 sec cast time still very very useful. Just not as useful for say Red or certain situations.
Where did you go?
I think a project quarm human monk playthrough series is necessary.
Dude. I stumbled upon this and then went over to classic adventures. THANK YOU! IM SO HYPED WATCHING THESE. SO MUCH NOSTALGIA! I was younger when I started playing eq, so I'm learning alot!
Miss you flatts
My dad played this game when we were kids. He is playing right now for fun with a raiding guild. This popped up on my recommended and I went back and forth between my room and his room asking if he had some of the items. He has the Sceptre of Destruction, manastone on 2 characters, fungus covered great staff, guise of the deceiver, and the staff of forbidden rights he preaches is the best in the game. Cool to see something relatable and have my dad have a couple of these items
I still have a Manastone on one of my Live characters. Far too late to be really useful, but it is a conversation piece.
You mean conservation?
The Moss Covered Twig wasn't a monk item at the time. It was one of the best ways for warriors to hold aggro.
you could also dual wield them, not limited to one. I used to farm them with ShowEQ and made a fortune.
actually it was a monk item at the time it was an everyone that could use it item.
Every item usable by a monk was considered by monks to be a monk item at the time. My guild used this mainly for the aggro management it provided.
Incorrect. The only MCT i ever saw on live was equipped by a human monk twink in the opening days of Kunark
I believe you missed the 2 actual rarest items in game. Oakwynd bow and big soul devourer sword.
There was a clicky faction adjuster that dropped from one of the court members near the Coldain king, it wasn't in the game long before it got removed. It did something like clicking to add +1000 faction for the target's faction, really nice.
Sounds like a debug item that got left accessible to players by mistake.
We need you flatts. Revive EQ.
Good times
wurmslayer and regen tunic skeleton neclace
Amulet of necropoteince ❤
Hey man I just discovered your channel and am slowly working through all your videos! I was an original EQ player way back in the day, and this is seriously making me want to come back and try this P99. I hope you keep doing what you are doing, your videos are great.
Hey man I really like these videos where you narrate quests, zones and your travels.. wish you made them more often I’m a huge fan!
Great video, brings back good memories. I remember back in original EQ twinking a new Cleric with a manastone and a fungi tunic and powerleveling himself in Befallen using undead nukes. Great times. Really wish I had never traded the Manastone though, would love to still have that.
Damn it's been a whole year 😥
There were quite a few insta-click items where they added casting times. I levitated literally everyone I ran across. lol
AoN will slowly levitate you as well
Pretty sure Pegasus Cloak wasnt instant cast.. Maybe im wrong
The Fungus Staff was amazing on my Necro. Pair that with the health to mana conversion line of spells and I pretty much never ran out of mana.
Amazing editing! Laughed out loud at the monk intro in the beginning. Definitely gunna be looking up more videos, please keep up the good work ❤😂🎉
I've still got my raid notebooks with loot note, raid points, hundreds of pages. Guild bank notes for necro coffin fees. Emergency phone numbers for monks and Necros in case of a planar raid wipe on a work night when we needed emergency corpse recovery assistance. Ahh the good old days.
nice to see you uploading again! Really enjoyed your monk videos and they helped me alot on p99 (blue) :)
We miss u
The fighters staff you missed! 19/20 2hb that was replaced by IFS :)
I miss this content so much.
Hell 15 years ago I had a 65 Iksar Monk. This video brought back memories.
Missing your videos, Flatts! Reptox and everything, please consider making videos of whatever you're playing.
A human monk
(as could other race and class combos) very early on faction himself and acquire the ring from the dark elf necro&sk guild it also had the bind affinity charge and could be combined with a locket of escape. This was also available pre kunark whereas the locket was not.
Missed you Flatts, good to see you're still about.
This video hit me in the feels for sure, nostalgia overload
Great video! I watched the whole thing, which in this day and age is rare to dedicate 18 minutes to. WORTH IT!
Pumice Stone was insta click when released, now has cats time. On a PVP server this item is priceless and hardly ever was sold
I remember camping all of this stuff on the official servers. I played on E'ci and was lucky enough to be on many of the server firsts. To say that this game was a part of my life that is an understatement. I would love to go back and have the same social community. That is what made it worth it for me. Have a few of these on my account.
E´ci was my server aswell ^^
I love these videos, man. I watched them all now, and I'm gonna need you to make some more.
I lent mine to another monk I knew and never saw it again when he quit lol
I had the only Shroud of Longevity on the server, because we woke the Sleeper after it dropped from Ventari or whatever her name was. The server was so mad at us, accusing us of "war crimes" by shutting off the primal candy spout/warden loot. We were so farmed we used to give primal weapons to random NPCs in front of people to get the "thanks for the primal greatsword!" etc and make people mad we were basically tossing them away. So troll ;p
staff of forbidden rites 96% rez 10 charges
11:50 When I was in highschool the dark elf custom helm with old style graphics was such an intimidating and awesome look. I played on vallon zek red server, any whenever I saw that face I knew I was going to die. Fun times.
Bringing me back so many years. Thanks a ton for this.
Anyone heard from him at all? Worried about Flatts...
I realy miss new videos from you, you still playing?
Staff of Forbidden Rites. Logged back in after many years and both of mine were discharged. Not to big of a deal now that druids have rez, but it was a pretty big deal back in the day.
Oh... I am not sure if you know this or not. but originally the Moss Covered Twig was both primary and secondary... that was until they realized the twig was comparable or more DPS then the monk epic itself. It does not get the damage bonus in secondary spot... but is good for pushing like you said in the video.
