I loved Qeynos so much as a starting point that even as an ogre and a troll player I would walk my characters as a low level all the way to Qeynos and have them bound there.
@SeroJ why would you ever do that with that specific race lmao they have one of if not the greatest starting areas in all of EQ bar none 😂 qeynos starting zone doesn't hold a candle to greater faydark with kelethin and crush imo.
@@zStC1 i loved qeynos so much more because 1: it was more pleasing to the eye for me. I prefer that over the dark dense forest and dark swamp. 2: i could always tell where i was. It's impossible to get lost there. Not the same for swamp or forest since there aren't many landmarks and stuff.
Great video, I learned something new about Qeynos, but you forgot to mention Cuburt, the named gelatinous cubed that spawns in the Qeynos Catacombs. It's a nod to, Q*bert, an old video game from 1982. Cuburt dropped the Small Tattered Dress used in the, Find Lucie Elron, quest. The quest was popular with casters for the reward, Golden Ear Stud, a +3 int earring. The quest was given by, Zamel, an NPC located just outside on the bank in South Qeynos. I just remember because I camped him a lot because I liked playing casters, Also you could sell the earring to players for some plat.
That was a most enjoyable video! One thing I really loved about Qeynos back in the day was inside one of the Inns in South Qeynos was a message board thingy where you could leave messages for your adventuring buddies to read. Made for some great RP :)
As someone playing veteran toons on Erollisi Marr server it's adorable to hear you talk about old school Antonica zones being crowded. There have been times when I've done some "back in the day" runs where I swear I was the only character all of the Karanas. Good times.
I really hope to see more of this series. This idea is amazing, and I LOVE it. Maybe a series containing all the zones/dungeons? Learning about the histories of things like Mistmoore would be fantastic.
I just leveled a ranger in the Qeynos area, my god that place is so much more developed than the rest of original Norrath. The amount of questions in Qeynos Hills/Karanas is amazing and makes leveling so much fun!
Very glad that you had the idea to make these city spotlight videos based on classic EQ. I love the format of your videos, and was sort of hoping for something JUST like this after you did some videos touring through dungeons. Looking forward to the Freeport video next and especially the Oggok video, whenever that comes up.
+Swampy thanks, I will do my best to give all the other cities as much justice as possible regardless of how little I know about them. If there is anything interesting you know about Oggok or any other city for that matter, post them. Id love to hear ;)
Wow, man. I can tell you really put work into this one. So immersive and informative. You've really stepped up your editing game. I really enjoyed it. And I learned stuff about EQ I never knew. There's always something to learn about EQ!
This is a fun idea which you have creatively and competently fleshed out. I want to see more of these! I am reminded of why I loved EQ so much as a teen. It's also fun to learn more of the lore and easter eggs. -Andrew
Dude, you are making the best Everquest videos i've seen. I love your cuts and your commentary. The majority of youtubers can learn a lesson of your work. Keep it up!
Started my Monk in Qeynos December 1999. I'll never forget when I put all my gear in the bank and ran the zone lines to Freeport with my heart in my throat 😂. Good times
I started a human warrior here. It was a good place to start, though you got to do the run from Qeynos to Freeport via HHK and Kithicor. That was something else. And, like you point out, every single class is available here (using the barbs as shaman).
Qeynos sucks by modern min/max standards, but it was over-the-top fantastic in 1999. One of the main things that made me sad about P99 is how dead Qeynos is. In classic EQ it was such a happening and populated area with many things happening at any given time. Have fond memories of starting in Qeynos Hills as a Ranger and struggling to find my way to Qeynos in the dark. I found that building at the halfway point (because other players were using torches) and I remember typing to them and asking where I was and how to get to Qeynos and they just told me to stay inside of the building until daylight, and we did. Huddled inside talking. Was such an exciting time to be alive. Online gaming had never really been done before, so it was a huge novelty.
Dude, look at the like/dislike ratio, it's one of the best I've seen for videos with any amount of views. Now that Kunark is out on p99 green, you should do more videos like these.
Really enjoyed! It easy to see how much time you have spend in game through the years to learn these easter eggs and lore. Keep up the good work, so I can have more great videos to watch =)
These town videos are fantastic! I’d love to see you make one for every classic town. (Ak’Anon, Felwithe, Kelethin, etc..) Love the content brotha! Big thumbs up. Thanks for this! -Lanamian Swiftblade; Wood elf ranger from the Saryrn server back in the good ol live days. ☺️
On my server at least it was traditional to take a selfie screenshot standing in front of the Qeynos clock when you finally got your Plane of Time key.
Your classic EQ Videos are awesome. I like to watch them cause it makes me feel home again. I wish I had a proper edition to call back time of the "old" EQ and meet you there... to look for my corpse :-)
Fippy Darkpaw can make it to the South Qeynos zone line if by chance the gate guards are occupied and there are no roamers on his way. He gives a zone shout - Fippy Darkpaw shouts, 'Flee for your lives, weakling humans! This land will be ours once again! I claim this city in the name of the Sabertooths!'
In the opening cinematic of EQ2 the narrator pronounces it Key - Nos. I had always said qua-nos in my head but changed it when I saw that opening when 2 launched.
The reason I pronounce Qeynos as "Keenos" and not "Kweenos" is because there is no "u "after the Q, i.e. Queynos would be pronounced "Kweenos". Anyway this pronunciation subject is definitely beating a dead horse from the days of EQ yore and also this vid itself is almost 5 years old. So why do I care and why am I typing this comment? All good questions!... Still love the nostalgia of watching vids like this. Thanks for giving me a taste reliving the memories and joys of one of the best MMO's ever made.
Check out Qeynos in EQOA. I love the aesthetics of both EQ 1 and EQOA, not so much EQ2... Scruffy was in EQOA as well... which is odd since EQOA is 500 years before EQ1, that's one OLD RAT! I should mention he was inside he city gates in EQOA. Towards the dock area.
When I was 9 and the game just came out, my brother and I said "Qwen-yos". I think my brother still says it that way. I think he's got something wrong with his head. He's a celebrated physician with highest honors, but also, I'm pretty sure he has something wrong with his head. What a freak.
When I first started, it was in Qeynos during Kunark. I always had people say "np" to me. Well, I got a computer the same time I started playing EQ. So to me, this meant "new player", and I always responded with "but not for long!" .... I was 13 yr old and dumb haha.
Absolutely love Qeynos, but Freeport will always be my #1. You start right near EC tunnel, so free buffs at all times from high level chars. Orc camps are great xp for groups, and when you get sick of those, hop on a boat or get a tp and run over to Crushbone which has the best xp bonus of any zone in the game. I definitely do miss killing gnolls, though. Might have to start a new char in Qeynos on P99. You still play at all?
DUDE! There was a hilarious exploit where you could get the newbie monk in NQeynos (to the left, leaving the gate), to follow you, then you go punch the monk guild master. The monk following you would try defending you, and then the entire monk guild would start a fight with its own guild master. 😂 DEFINITELY something to try some time. I used to do it whenever I was bored - but on some other random server, so I wouldn't lose my main. 🤷🏻♀️ I'm willing to bet that bug still exists. PS: Do Neriak next!!!
It's pronounced "Kay-nohs". There's no "u" after the "q" to give it a "kw" sound. It goes to hard "k" then. It's also SonyEQ spelled backwards due to Verant/Sony creating EQ.
+Mindsync I'm considering doing a bonus video once I finish all the cities that contains all the things that were missed or cut from the cities I have already done. Stuff like Trumpy in Qeynos, Bait Masterson and Boomba the Big in Freeport.
hey man, can you share some of the lore of kunark? firiona...the lady on the cover of the box. the land of firiona vie sits close to iksar ruins. there's a picture i've seen with an iksar holding chains constraining her. what is the story here? the elves are said to be reclaiming the land. who was there first? were elves living next to iksars? and when did the sarnaks come into play there? anything would be appreciated. THX
Thanks for all the kind words, I do plan to finish off this Cities of Norrath series I just need to find the time to give it the attention it deserves.

I loved Qeynos so much as a starting point that even as an ogre and a troll player I would walk my characters as a low level all the way to Qeynos and have them bound there.
I remember taking the journey there from Felwithe on my High Elf.

PS give me plat in the game please
Qeynos is by far my favorite city. LOVE going back to here and doing xp in Blackburrow

Your adventure series was thoroughly enjoyable and I would love more triva or easter egg stuff.

I never really did voice chat in EQ till recently and now I get to hear everyone's own pronounced names of items and zones
I started a human warrior here. It was a good place to start, though you got to do the run from Qeynos to Freeport via HHK and Kithicor. That was something else. And, like you point out, every single class is available here (using the barbs as shaman).
Great video, not sure how it took me this long to come across it. Loved the Erudite in the Cryosilk Robe. We only ever had a total of two on Prexus.
That's mighty impressive! I grew up on the Prexus server and spent a lot of time around this area!

Like this idea a lot. More! Always loved Qeynos meself.

NGL I never saw Fippy charge the gates and didn't know he did that. He was usually too busy aggro'ing and fighting noobs.
More cities please! Thanks for your work
