"Toxic Burden" - "We want to give our bodies the best nutrients and substrates for our cells to utilize while minimizing the toxic burden." Love that take. That's a very direct way of putting it.
I disagree with the take on salmon. There are a lot of fisheries in Ireland and scotland that are producing very high quality farmed salmon. Going forward we are going to have to rely on farmed seafood as over fishing continues to be an issue. Also, not all “wild” Alaskan salmon is actually truly wild. Most of what is being caught spent the first part of its life in a fishery and then was released into the ocean to help supplement the fish stock. With wild fish as well we have to grapple with the fact that our oceans are hardly clean
Agree. farmed salmon can be fine depending on WHERE it was farmed, and how high their 'farming standards' are. The "Yes" or "No" concept can be easily misguided because many of those are NOT simply black and white. That being said, I have SO MUCH RESPECT for Dr. Casey. LOVE HER and her wonderful journey is SOOOOO appreciated by me!
Farmed sits in its own waste, can be crammed next to a diseased fish, farmed can be treated with pharm A Sueticals, artificial colors etc... salmon color farmed is white.
Trust me, after 62 years of making bad choices and a visit to the E.R. with a BP of 190/190, I CHANGED to Whole Food Plant Based. I am down 90lbs, my BP is 112/80 routinely. After a year I am adding pastured/Barley Sprout Eggs. Yes, 7-minute Boiled Eggs with a shot of Tabasco. I start my day with whole beets (3) handfuls of Arugula, Micro Sprouts, Cilantro, 1 Serrano pepper, one cucumber, protein, Garden Earth Chocolate protein powder (Never WHEY protein) Chocolate collagen, Cylon Cinnamon, Dulse, ginger, MUD water powder, distilled water, half/Brick of organic tofu, then BLEND! Everyday!
I’d like to share a different perspective based on my own experience and research. I was raised vegetarian and believed that LDL was harmful and that red meat would lead to health issues. But after getting very sick, I started digging into the science and discovered that much of what we’ve been told isn’t supported by strong evidence. For example, mechanistic studies show that meat and fat don’t actually cause diseases like diabetes or heart disease. Instead, poor blood sugar control and insulin spikes-often driven by diets high in processed carbohydrates-are major contributors to these conditions. The **Atherogenic Lipoprotein Profile (ALP) Study** and the **Whitehall II Study** both highlight that insulin resistance, rather than LDL cholesterol, plays a significant role in artery plaque buildup and heart disease risk. One thing I’ve learned is the importance of including animal-based foods in the diet. Animal proteins are more bioavailable, meaning our bodies can absorb and utilize the nutrients more efficiently compared to plant-based proteins. Additionally, plant-based diets often contain anti-nutrients, like phytic acid, which can inhibit the absorption of important minerals like iron, zinc, and calcium. I also noticed you mentioned using plant-based protein powders. While they can be a convenient source of protein, it's important to be cautious, as some plant-based protein powders can contain harmful levels of heavy metals like arsenic, cadmium, and lead due to the way they are processed. Over time, consuming these contaminants can potentially lead to health issues. I understand that everyone’s body responds differently to various diets, and it’s fantastic that you’ve found what works for you. But it’s also worth considering that for many people, incorporating nutrient-dense foods like eggs and even responsibly sourced meats can be part of a healthy diet, especially when the focus is on whole, unprocessed foods and maintaining stable blood sugar levels.
If there's no healthy choices at a gas station instead of going for pumpkin seeds roasted in seed oil, you could just fast or plan ahead and have a healthy snack or meal with you.
The problem with these are the omega 3 FA content is ALA rather than DHA and EPA. ALA is harder for your body to use in a mg per mg basis. Per Richard Lustig M.D. MSL.
Most commercially available corn in the U.S,, however - as much pesticide as it may have on the surface, is GMO Franken-food and manufactures glyphosate within it's own cells, unless it's organic.
Most sweet corn produced in the US is NOT gmo. It has one of the least pesticide residue. Now....field corn (hfcs comes from this) is a completely different story.
@@Katgirl2024 Thanks, Ktgilr2024. It's just that in my book genetic modification (GMO) qualifies equally with added pesticides for the dirty list. In fact, some GMO is about causing the cells of the host to create the pesticide internally.
Dr Means should read this conclusion in a study published in Crit Rev Toxicol. 2024 Overall, the estimated daily exposure for each pesticide-produce combination was below the corresponding HBGV for all exposure scenarios. The current analysis demonstrates that excessive produce-specific pesticide exposure is unexpected as the amount of produce that would need to be consumed on a chronic basis, even among children, far exceeds typical dietary intake. In other words, she’s scaring you about pesticide exposure from vegetables.
Organic doesn’t mean absolutely no pesticides because while the farmers may not spray their plants, the transporters may spray to keep the produce fresh to get to market. Yes?
WILD caught is best when it comes to Seafood. Huge Greens, legumes, balsamic vinegar, raw walnuts, etc. truly it's an educated choice, once you know what these processed foods will do to you, you will make great choices.
Can we eat unrefined seed oils? No one ever mentions this. I think the reason that corn has few pesticides is because it was genetically modified so that it would resist pests, but that's another discussion. Thanks.
I have a hard time believing the incremental risk of eating the "dirty dozen" anywhere near outweighs the benefits of their nutrients. If you can get organic, great. But being concerned about this beyond just selecting organic vs not organic if both options are present, is overkill. People get way too hung up on this stuff due to alarmism. Just eat whole foods.
There is a 2020 review of farmed vs wild salmon that sheds some interesting info on that particular subject. Farmed fish had Higher omega 6 content (which other studies suggest is not bad and may be beneficial) but higher EPA content. Lower DHA but also lower dioxins, methylmercury and other toxins. The fishery standards differ from country to country and so the feed will differ, the fat content will differ but the toxins are almost always lower. There is nuance to this topic. I am clearly not covering all of it in a tiny comment but neither is this video.
conventional lemon taste is bitter. While organic lemons, I have found in every case, have a sweetness to them. Much more desirable to me. Also a good indicator of being sprayed.
Dr. Means you are right on a lot of things but you are still missing on very important points. It is better to cook beans from dry than eating them from a can because those are loaded with sodium and if the can was exposed to a high temperature or contains acidic foods then, aluminum would release into the contents. Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s, dementia and other brain diseases. Also, organic foods have some bad ingredients as well. Reading labels is a must in the US. For example; I would never recommend processed organic meats just because of being organic. Eating organic is a cleaner and healthier choice but not every single ingredient in the organic food is clean or healthy. I wouldn’t recommend conventional limes or lemons because those might have apeel which is very harmful. Do your own research people. I have been doing it for over 12 years and find that everything around us is full of bad chemicals like make up, cleaning supplies, clothing, towels, food, and more.
Why Dr Means repeatedly suggest organic produce as a healthful choice Organic farming is not regulated, labelling is erratic b/c there are no strict parameters and no one is monitoring. Also organic farmers do use remedies to control infects, etc, and and doesn’t mean that those remedies are harmless Agree about music, quite irritating and totally unnecessary
I;m not strapped for cash but no way can I eat wild caught seafood for one meal each day. nothing is less than $20.00 80% of the country cannot afford or live with the boredom of what you are suggesting, Not possible in the USA. Would be easy anywhere else in the world. just not here,

Is that kale on the pass?????
I love leafy greens, but I've been scared by several reports about oxalates- Legitimate concern, or false?
Apparently if you eat cheese with it, that helps cancel out the bad effects of the oxalates. Double-check that though because I'm not 100% sure.
So you do know that there are lots of pesticides that are approved for use on organic food right?? Maybe just wash your food well.
