It's happening all up and down the chain too. There are a couple firms that you have certainly heard of that are struggling to remain functional due to their shitty, short sighted management continuing to act like it's an employer's market... and there's not much you can do to stem the tide once you build up a reputation among your professional employees of only promoting and giving raises to incompetent people who schmooze with the right management.

I mean, this is precisely why a free market and a pluralistic society is so important. Just imagine your entire life being in the hands of a single petty and incompetent manager, who is chair of the local workers council.
If anything, the free market is a liberal concept. It literally implies that ANYONE should be able to participate in the economy without restrictions or middlemen, let alone government restrictions dictated by corporations, which is the opposite of a free market.
It's still a faulty ideology, because an unregulated market without any government intervention and driven exclusively by profit, supply, demand and competition is nothing more than a drug cartel.
That's because of these idiot leftists, every enemy is on the right. They don't know nor care what the right actually believes. He's not there to catter to your needs but to make fellatio on his boss while presenting how "he" achieved these great results in the last quarter with your blood, sweat and years. They don't promote decent workers because people with any sort of backbone would oppose half of nonsensical, stupid and whimsical decision from the higher ups who rarely if ever have even remote idea of how work on the front lines actually looks like. Over the last 30 years every single middle manager I've encountered was a yes-man to his boss while simultaneously had black belt in assertiveness towards people under him. My mom once told me about this time her and her colleagues where sick of being underpaid for doing backbreaking construction work involving building scenery pieces for studios and/or marketing firms and so forth which was under time pressure, and the uplifting part was that one of the vital workers who did industrial grade banner/billboard printing said to the boss "you either pay me more for this job that YOU know nobody else is as experienced at as me, or I'm leaving and other colleagues are sure to follow suit as the work pressure increases and your printing department falls in complete disarray." eventually the boss caved and agreed to pay him more to keep him around for a little longer.

That's fine as long as you keep in mind you're not infinitely valuable. Sometimes you feel you're not fairly compensated while being paid an industry standard wage. Just because you hold the job or task hostage doesn't mean you'll have security after it's all said and done.

how many of those do you think are actually real though. i know where i work the supervisor isnt allowed to text us. they can call and ask us to come in but it is not binding, they can tell us we have to if they give at least 24 hours notice but as long as you dont have a lot of points built up there is no real consequence for saying no.

Probably why farmers tend to maintain some degree of capitalist economy even during hardcore communist regimes. No matter how obsessed with communism the dictator is, he still needs the farming industry to actually function half-way efficiently to avoid starving peasants overthrowing his government.
Everybody is entitled to food, water, shelter, clothing, education, and healthcare. Period. No exceptions. Even if you genuinely believe these things shouldn't be free, everybody should at least have some way to access them taking into account all factors (age, disability, etc...)

Yeah, imagine willingly working a terrible job in a communist society in order for an abundance of something (e.g. almonds, soy, avocado) to exist. Why would you do that when you can't make a profit? We have an abundance because the majority of society is productive. We are this productive because craftsmen and businessmen were incentivized to find more efficient ways to produce things because more produce = more reward = better lifestyle.
If you take the incentive to work smarter away, you're back to people slaving in the dirt to survive. If you take away the impetus to work (cash or the lack thereof depriving you of the many almost utopian conveniences we take for granted - even jobless people live in heated buildings with running electricity and water and can afford to feed, clothe and entertain themselves in most western nations), most people simply either won't do the necessary work that isn't sculpting tiddies out of clay for giggles or won't work as hard because there's no reward for straining harder than the next guy.
Socialism leans very heavily on an utopian vision of what humanity is like at its best, while capitalism works with what humanity is right now. Yes, it's the carrot and the stick, but it's the carrot and the stick because it WORKS.
Given how often socialists end up supporting capitalism wholeheartedly, I actually think they have legitimately no idea what capitalism is and they keep coming back to it because of its innate superiority.

People keep acting like capitalism isn't a broad word but in actuality it can encompass drastically different systems from government restricted capitalism to free market capitalism. It's so annoying to see people blame capitalism for the decline of the west when none of this would be happening if the government wasn't so involved with the economy.
Hell I've heard someone argue that capitalism didn't exist before the word was coined even though humans have been exchanging wealth aka capital since the dawn of civilization.

Finding a good job requires a mix of
1. Social circles
2. Experience
3. Looks (really helps)
Even if you are a new worker, most jobs nowadays pay far above minimum wage. I recommend starting as a part-timer.

Looks is mostly important in forward facing jobs like sales and customer service...which is unfortunately a lot of lower level starting jobs.
That being said self grooming and dressing the part is very important.
Its also important for parents to encourage their kids to get a job once your old enough. The earlier you can build your resume, the better.

With the borders closed to cheap immigrant labor (not that that's 100% a bad thing in principle, though at the pre-Covid levels it certainly was) there's an opportunity for unskilled workers to assert themselves. If you let a valued employee quit and replace them with a cheaper hire, a shitty boss might say that's an acceptable trade. When there ARE no cheaper hires available, suddenly the equation has changed, and the complacently shitty bosses fall back on old habits rather than fighting to keep the valued employees happy, and wonder why they're hemorrhaging money.

The labor market post covid isn't a free one though. The extra unemployment money provided by most governments during covid basically bribed people into not working. It is unreasonable to expect small employers to compete with the government who can either print money or tax money with impunity.

The first problem they're going to run into is explaining to someone that having them work in the wheat fields is not ableism.
Unfortunately, most communists think they can lounge around and do whatever they want in a communist society. They will be able to tweet about their gender politics 24/7 and be paid for it. In reality, they will be sent to the fields or mines to toil away. If they don't meet their quota, they will be lined up against the wall and shot.

It's not a Canadian thing. There are great workplaces, and there are shitty ones in the US. Best place I've worked so far had the employee's rights and various laws in favor of workers posted in every break room so we knew our rights and they won't be violated.

Most huge corporations like Walmart, Home Depot, etc. have been burned enough by class action lawsuits in the past that they always have pretty strict "no communicating off the clock", "no talking to employees in the break room" type policies and open door policies. They won't want people to unionize, so they try to give as much power back to the employee as possible. The ones who complain are usually the ones who actually deserve to be fired. lol.
I notice it's usually the mid-range businesses, more than 100 employees but not a major corporation, that have the most issues.
Yeah. My current job will sometimes call us on our days off to come in due to being short staffed, though it is rare. When it does happen, we can decline to come in and they have to accept it.
I had a union dog for a personnel manager, getting kickbacks from the dues to pocket. She hated the fact I actually read through my contract before taking the job and while she left to handle a call, I, as per my rights, edited my contract to include a statement that I cannot be forced to work on Sundays or any Holidays (Holy Days) and will only do so if compensated, in addition to a line that my pay couldn’t be slashed for whatever reason (since I felt she was a cheapskate). I tried informing her I edited the terms of the contract, but she cut me off and signed before putting the document away, handing me my uniform. A month later her lap dog John, an overweight slob who slacked off constantly and made my time there a living hell, tried forcing me to take his hours on Sunday, claiming seniority and that I have to, before faking my signature on the schedule change form while I was dealing with my locker. Sunday came and went. That Monday my boss tries bitching at me for not showing up, claiming I had a responsibility to cover John’s shift that I “agreed to”, holding up the forged signature to which I countered with my ID’s signature, before stating my contract forbids such. She tried yelling that it didn’t before realizing I mentioned once more the terms of the updated contract did list it. She pulls out the contract, reads the lines I added, and tried telling me that isn’t allowed. I took Business Law, I excelled in contract legality in that class, I knew what I had been practicing. She tries taking it to her higher up who states that it is valid as she agreed to the terms as an agent of the company. Backfired though since she made the rest of my time there hell. I quit a month later, having had my foot crushed on the job and being refused the chance to bandage up the foot, seek medical attention, or to go home.
Should've sued them. It's prooooooobably unconstitutional to prevent a worker from seeking medical help after an accident. Could've had a very tasty settlement.

That "would" mean that a private entity preventing you from seeking medical help, which could result in a detriment to your capacity of living, would indeed be unconstitutional, which makes it quite unlawful. It's probably against a bunch of labor laws as well. Truly appalling.
What socialists tend to forget about the workforce is the whole "employed at will" concept cuts both ways.
True, an employer can fire you if you give nothing of value to the company, but you are also able to leave a Job if it doesn't serve your needs.
This isn't true in all cases, some people need to work a shit Job because they can't find work elsewhere, but no Job can actually force you to work for them.

Being a manager myself, it's absolute hell these last few years walking the tightrope between being short staffed and trying to not overwork and over ask the staff. Below the rope is another quit. When it comes down to it, you need people. Patience keeps them from stressing, but some people take advantage and really don't care while the people who care and bust their butts see them getting away with things they would never do. What's the solution? To discipline the bad employee out the door and take away what little help the bring to the table, or let it slide JUST ONE MORE TIME and risk the rest of the staff buying into the bad employee's mantra or worse, good employees getting sick of working with bad people and quitting.
People don't want to work. And we're not a business that can just close, we are support staff in a hospital. [sigh] Backnto work.
I'm a shift supervisor (acting manager since I work 2nd shift and management has almost always gone home shortly after I arrived) and I have the exact same worries. Stuff HAS to get done, and we only have so many workers due to budget cuts and issues hiring people. But if you put too much pressure on too few workers, they'll get burned out and/or resent you. A lot of times I can solve the issue by busting my own ass harder (which raises overall productivity when they see their supervisor working hard, generally) but sometimes I'm too busy to put a dent in their workload so I have to put it on them. It always sucks, especially since I'm friends with a lot of them and hate making their lives suck, but also have to keep in mind the interests of the business if I want to keep MY job.
Until you've been in the position it really is hard to understand, its the dunning krueger effect in action. I install fences and doing hard labor for $12-17hr seems like your getting shafted when your doing 2-3 5-10k jobs a wk, but once you do a job for yourself you see there really is a world of difference between the jobs your doing.

Worked the 2 days I got off this week, probably filling for someone. I'm not against it but I could've used the time off too prep for holidays... Just realizing that now lol
All those places are “under-staffed” because they can’t keep people, or can’t get new ones because they pay low. Granted, I don’t think low-paying jobs are necessarily worth huge sums of money, but I’m sure more people would be willing to put up with some level of crap if they were paid better. Or at least you’d get more applicants. But even the giant conglomerates that make 100’s of millions are too cheap to hire a few more people.
This seems to be minimum wage or service sector work. Trades will ask. Will not dare try to force. AND..time and a half, double, or triple time. Holidays are automatically double time.
One thing I noticed as a boss and resonated in those reddit posts is there seems to be some obsession with needing the weekends off. Friday Saturday and Sunday are the most "called in sick days".
I currently work at an amusement park. NOBODY gets weekends off. EVER. I really don't mind tbh, all the stores I have to go to are closed on weekends anyway. Also if I want to go somewhere recreationally, it's way less busy on a week day so I enjoy myself way more.
Perhaps that's due to being used to the school system where people aren't in school on the weekends?
Maybe because in history past no one worked sunday and over the last eighty years workers productivity has gone up but not the compensation or benefits.
I work in overnight nursing (CNA, but studying to move up.) I actually prefer working weekends. They keep me out of the bar, and I can use the weekdays for appointments and working out.
Most people have the weekends off. You get used to that idea thanks to school. I mean, its called the "weekEND" for a reason. Its a time to relax and recharge for the next week. Most of the flaws that come from capitalism are from people in a few things.
1.) There being genuine dickheads that are in it for themselves and will try to get others to oblige by their will (this happens with every other system, not just capitalism).
2.) There are people who are ignorant about the goods or services that they seek, so they may not know any better (this could be willful ignorance, them just not wanting to learn).
3.) There are some people who are just lazy and want others to do everything for them, so they may want the powers that freedom could provide, but because they don't want the responsibilities that come with it, they would rather take the minimal route. Even if that puts them in economic hardship.
4.) Some people just want more than reasonable, again any system has this, I've seen socialists complain that we make too much stuff. That there are too many unnecessary jobs, that we throw away too much. But I'll see them buying all the new games, ordering off Amazon at least once a week, gets takeout, etc.
There are more to it, but these are things that we have more control over. We only have so much control over the other aspects, but these are ones that we may have some degree of an influence over.
I guarantee half of these, at least, are fake and/or very low level positions within the staff (Think barista at Starbucks). Most managers aren't texting you, they're calling you, then going back to doing their job, not fighting with you.

The concept of property rights extends to the individual. You own yourself and your labor. Nearly every problem that socialists point out was solved by property rights and individualism. Granted, we currently have issues with corporations consolidating so much market share that they become oligopolistic but that's not inherently a problem with capitalism, it is a problem of the barriers to entry for competition being raised so much that only the big fish get to play in the pond.
And barriers to entry are often caused by the government with its regulations and favouritism

That being said, “hard work” is also fairly subjective. If one only defines hard work as intense physical labor, for instance, then there are entire swaths of office workers (bookkeepers, accountants, etc) who are in all retrospects, “lazy” in comparison to them. So the entire question of hard work becomes a garbled mess.
I used to be a supervisor in a life/safety position. Basic that means if I didn't do my job and make sure everything was staffed properly, people could literally die. As such, there was a "directed" clause in the employment and union contracts that allowed me to direct people onto shift if necessary to make sure staffing was correct and the employees understood and knew that.
You know what I only had to do twice in 2 years? Direct someone. If I couldn't get it filled I would work it myself AND do my job.
You know what I didn't do? Text people and say things like "I need" or "you have to". I ALWAYS asked and if it came down to direction then I made sure there was no other option anywhere and I hated it.
These bosses are everything wrong with society in one person and I hope they not only had to work that shit themselves but that they got disciplined for forcing people to quit when things are already short staffed.
Weird random shitty work story I have:
I worked a job pushing shopping carts for several months this year. And one day, my workplace just... fired me. They never even told me I was officially fired. They refused to answer any of my phone calls, and I had to find out via a third party.
The official reason: I was wearing earphone buds at work and was warned several times.
Meanwhile, I asked beforehand if earbuds were allowed and they said yes, every single other worker also wears them, and I was only ever officially warned a single time.
tldr when you look for work, find an employer who will respect you as a person. Being all anti-work about your job will get you nowhere lol

This sort of thing is the norm for service industry work in the US. And in many areas, particularly college towns, those crappy service jobs are *ALL* that's available. The bosses in those places are used to having desperate people who can't get a better job b/c there *aren't any*, so they're used to getting their way.
Then in recent years the hiring of those bosses became based on everything BUT competency and you get a workforce ready to crack. Add a "worker's market" for jobs and a nation breaking entitlement package and yeah, you're gonna see a lot of walk offs, both justified & stupid
I've walked off all but one job working in customer service, that one being because the store was forced to shut down during the beginning of the covid lock downs. The industry is trash and full of worthless 'management'. A good tip for those in the industry, ask for your raise and apply to new jobs at the rate you want to be paid at same time. Don't get the raise? Get the job that you've applied for.
Also it is very likely that those places are managed and run by the people who once got treated crappy, so it is all they have seen or they did their time now everyone else has too. Usually the manager ends up being the oldest employee, that is the one person who kept taking the crap or had to. Now they continue just to give it back. Or then it is some distanced from reality who haven't gotten the point that they own the business others just work for them.

before it was necessary to go through years of formal education in order to gain any kind of skilled job/career, you would learn the trade of your father or mother. populations were more dispersed so local economies of small towns and villages where smithies, bakers, coopers, etc. were a necessary part of the economy and life in those communities.
once mechanization, automation, and standardization shook things up and resulted in people breaking away from their local communities. they had to move to find work in the industrial towns and cities, what skills were still useful (shoemakers for instance became shoe-repairers) in the towns and cities were worth comparatively less, and the cost of living would have been much higher comparitively.

I work in grocery supply chain, these people have NO idea how much work is involved in keeping stores stocked. If you stop paying people like me and we all walk off the job you'll miss a meal about 48 hours later and I don't know where your next one is coming from. Literally thousands of workers round the clock, every day, just to move it all. Nevermind growing and harvesting it. It's all magic, I guess.

When my boss gives me grief i don't argue with them, i go and fill out applications to other places. I let my new perspective employer and my current one argue over who gets to keep me the next day. I have 15 years where i work (more then all the upper staff there combined), I've missed only 5 days of work in that 15 years, i can do almost every job where i work to the point I'm the one that gets stuck teaching my new bosses how to do theirs, and I'm the only person outside of maintenance even allowed to touch the inside of some of the core equipment needed to run the place, I'm way past arguing with them about anything.. even the simplest of things.
All I've learned over the years is that the only thing you get for hard work and dedication these days is more work for the same pay.
The largest problem facing those who accept a positive view of liberty and conflate wage labor with slavery is that the overwhelming majority of wage laborers don't feel like slaves, regardless of how leftists define the term.
The abolition movement had real weight not because blacks in America were simply defined as slaves but because they felt enslaved.

I own my own business and i also have a regular job. (I’m a software engineer) The part that Marx and his followers neglect is that no matter if you own a business or not the consumer is the boss. You trade goods or services for money which you value more than the value you place on those goods or services.
I value the money that I get more than the labor that I put into writing code. Conversely, the customer or business is trading money for a product that they value more than that money.
The labor theory of value is bullshit.
Whether the value of the product is subjective or not doesn't fundamentally change the argument behind labour theory of value.

Cobalt already has value, granted, before it becomes electronics. That value comes from the person who mined it out of the ground and the person who processed it, then the person who transported it. And I agree that physical labor isn't the only labor that creates value. Management of materials is labor, keeping track of materials so that customers can be assured they will obtain their product, while not creating anything persay, is still labor.
I think it's about responsibility, and the expectation of it. Bosses have more responsibility to keep the show going than the guys and gals on the floor.
In rough times (i.e, somebody quit, how do we fill?) Some bosses choose to squeeze the crew to make ends meet, and to see who steps up. Ideally, the people who are willing to step up in those situations gets rewarded by the company. Not just by salary, but with respect and future prospects. A company might even want that squeeze sometimes, to build a better core group of workers. That said, asshole bosses sure do exist. And sometimes, there is no compensation to stepping up, and taking responsibility. You are just getting exploited.
Or there’s the inverse effect. Because you’re willing to step up during those situations, they *won’t* promote you so they can always have you when that happens again.

So the theory of alienation talks about how if a worker is not working for himself but for others he experiences an alienation from his own labor, from his own ownership.
But when you look at the countries who go the route of marxism, it is always about taking away property from those who have property (which they go through their own work and hardship) and working for the state, or society.

On the story of the worker wanting Thanksgiving off the Employee states the boss agreed. The boss is trying to deny the permission after the fact.
Well, when the Boss agreed, the situation changed. Now they are stuck in the position of hire and train someone, probably in really short order, during a holiday, to keep this guy happy, go back on their word and ask them to work, or close the place for the holidays. Without knowing the nature of the business, I can't tell if there was a better solution than asking the person to work. For my business, everyone wants to go see Nana in Nantucket for Thanksgiving but also expect all the gas stations to be open. Then they bitch when it was only pay at the pump and every place was closed on the way to Nana's house. This sword cuts both ways. Sure, we can give everyone the day off for Thanksgiving but then don't bitch that you couldn't get a king can and pack of Marlboro during the Lions game because we were closed.

Why? How is it better for workers to receive less money just because they happen to work for a small business? I've worked for more than a few small-business owners who were good people, I know they personally didn't want to screw me over, and yet simply could not consistently generate enough revenue in order to pay a competitive wage.
Generally speaking, people who say "you need to be a team player" wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.
Basically the whole sub is hospitality, which managers are just promoted waiters and bartenders. Remember that.
It is really, really hard for people to *actually* understand supply and demand when it comes to labor.
When I had to teach history to high school kids last year, my boss was incredibly polite and understanding. Yeah, there were the occasional issue that would pop up. One time my 11th grade class got mad at me for saying America "wasn't founded on racism" and complained to her. She basically just told me not to bring up the topic... problem was the book brought it up, so she then told me not to contradict the book. That said, when I couldn't make the trip to the school, I could just call her and excuse myself and teach from home. Still got paid. One day I actually drove there only to get a message the power was out in that part of the state, so we had to try and teach from home. I had to drive an hour back and barely got home on time to give my classes, but she understood and I didn't get in any trouble. I even had issues understanding some of the more menial parts of the job and she was really helpful.
Overall, I know bad bosses exist, but I hate it when people suggest they're the norm.

Beyond those things though I do think I can get behind a lot of the content people share there, I’m pro union personally and feel those are more often than not a net positive for the worker (so long as they’re not corrupt at least) and generally speaking the USA is in some desperate need of better labor laws - the stock market is not the economy and workers get squeezed hard.

When I was in high school way back in 1999 I had a job working at a 'K-Mart' on top of the farm work I was doing for my family. The week before Christmas I managed to catch double pneumonia with a fever so bad I was hallucinating at work. All three of the managers were calling me daily trying to get me to come to work even while I was in hospital. I didn't get better until News year, for my 'sins' I was laid off for 'unacceptable job performance'. I'm 40 now and it's the only job I ever got fired form.
This was the free market theory that Milton Friedman talked about. That if we had a free market, where businesses can be easily established, a lot of workers would have the ability to tell their bosses to go to hell. And you need to be able to do that. That's what I call the right to unionize, which is very different than unions themselves. If a bunch of waiters find out that their boss is stealing their tips, and they all collectively agree that during a dinner rush on the busiest day of the week, they'll all walk off the job, that's an exercise of their right to unionize. They are not being jerks for doing that. Because the patreons of that establishment, also have the ability to go to another establishment for their dinner.
What happens is a lot of people look at Upton Sinclairs book the Jungle and think that's how capitalism works. They fail to see all the nuances in the book that defeats Sinclar's own arguments.

I believe in capitalism as a form of trade between employers and employees. I DO NOT believe in employers expecting their employees to act as slaves and come in after their time off has been submitted, being required to work an entire week without a day off multiple times in a row, being belittled or demeaned by their superiors (who should be required to be accommodating to people), and not getting a raise after being an attentive worker who has been there for an extensive amount of time.
And for the record, yes, I know "hard work." I've worked two jobs simultaneously while going to college, and I've worked outside pushing carts in -10 F weather on 8 hour shifts. Saying "suck it up" is not an excuse, especially not in an era where CEO's are earning 351 times more than their average worker when back in 1978 CEO's were only earning 31 times what their average earners make. Crony capitalism and Corporatism are just as bad as Communism and Socialism in my book.
At which point do these people who say "find a better job" and "just work harder" for low wages know when people are working too hard to justify an economy forming wage slaves caused by mass immigration, outsourcing, and university education becoming more expensive and unreliable, all in the while cost of living throughout the West is rising, including the US?
The first half of this video makes me realize how great I had back as an underemployed landscape. If the owner needed guys to work on the weekend he asked for volunteers and there was an unsaid agreement that there’d be $100 cash for who showed up. He’d also give $100 to guys who did great work at the end of a difficult job.
I think that behavior really (and literally) pays off. During the recession one of the richest families in town decided to “redesign” their whole yard twice in a summer, making sure there was enough work so that my boss was able to stay in business until things picked back up.
Had a convo with someone about how their employment is a negotiation/agreement. It was a novel concept to them.
You do A in order to get B. Your employer comes along and says do C and you'll continue to get B...thats a demand/threat.

Hell yeah! The reason why I'm on the right isn't because I think people who run establishments should get their way all the time, it's because I think people should be able to have options. If you don't like working for your current employer, you should be able to quit and find another new job quickly, or create your own place of employment and more often than not, unions and government overreach gets in the way.
Not gonna lie, what you described as Marx's conception of where liberalism leads sounds awfully similar to the Great Reset message, a world where people lose even the concept of ownership.

Before I got off of social media, I noticed that modern socialists have gravitated toward techno-socialism. Their idea being that everything can be automated such that human labour is unnecessary. I don't deny that this may eventually be the case and that some thought must be given to how a post-labour society would function, but we're not there, yet. It might happen within my lifetime, but for the time being human labour is absolutely necessary.
Once human labor is unneeded so are the humans. I love the commies that think once machines do all of the work they will be given everything to do nothing
One point I will always argue in capitalism's favor is how much it incentivizes excellence. If you are good at something, you can always find people who value you. If you then also learn to value yourself, you can get a good deal out of it.
A friend of mine is in the military, and he's a genius. He knows so much about his job, and learns it so quick he starts learning about other people's jobs so he can help them when he zips through his own workload. The only thing he is given for his troubles is more work. "Oh hey, you're qualified on this, can you come in and do this for me?" And saying "no go screw yourself" to your commanding officer is going to have dire consequences. Above all that, there's another guy he works with that nobody trusts to do anything right, but hasn't done anything bad enough to get kicked out, that gets paid more because he's been in the service longer. That's the sort of situation command economies and non-self-directed labor gets you.
And yes, I realize people can cheat and steal but unless they excell at those things they will be found out and lose trust, and they would be doing that anyway no matter what system you have.
I'm a free enterprise enjoyer to the bone. I love r/antiwork. People there have so many genuine grievances. And I think we all win when they are given the confidence to stand up to shitty bosses. A necessary parts of free markets is free labor. Good on them for telling their crooked bosses to get fucked

Never had a boss who tried to guilt trip me like that, luckily. I've definitely been texted/called to see if I could come in short notice, but I've never gotten told that it was my job to come in when I wasn't scheduled.
This all depends on the supervisor and the planning capability of middle and upper management (which is at best mediocre in most cases)
I've seen quite a lot of these stories, more on the "management is incompetent" side of things and trying to protect my colleagues from additional work.

When you work for something local/small service business, youd be surprised. Not that it was as aggressive, but I've seen an old coworker show me a text between the management and him and it management can get ugly. That's what happens when certain people that feel more superior will look down on you as a lesser and more worker

Hell one time I was late because I couldnt find my keys and got in an argument with the manager who called the boss and the boss told the manager to apologize for starting an argument with me over a reasonable excuse for being late.
