"Just because someone cannot formulate an argument, doesn't mean they do not have a point." THAT is a great point and advice to whomever is closed to different views than their own. This was a great conversation, and I learned a lot about myself as well and will practice to "listen with humility." Congrats to Ms. Amala.

We should all work on improving our communications skills. We should also make a sincere effort to understand what others are saying without trying to make people feel stupid or score cheap political points on those who aren't as good at it.

That is an extremely important point. There are people that go from job to to job because they are very good at talking employers into hireing them. That doesn't mean that they can hold down those jobs. Further the politicians we need may not be the same as those that are skilled at making people vote for them.

the problem with the concept of immorality is that it has always been assumed even since the time of Adam & Eve that people actually have a choice or intelligence. and in order to make an intelligent choice, you have to have intelligence. if you don't have a sufficient amount of intelligence, how the heck are you going to make an intelligent choice?? society judges people of low intelligence as if they purposefully chose to be born with low I.Q.s. what madness!! higher intelligence (a.k.a. the Freudian superego) requires a certain distancing from instinctive impulses which reside in our subconscious minds, but if that part of the brain is damaged, how is the judge going to make sound judgement?? the chief of the tribe or the king of a kingdom used to decide what was moral and what was immoral or wrong. then the churches began to make that decision. and then finally a democratic majority of citizens began making that decision. the concepts of morality & immorality had evolved over the centuries. but now, in our present political climate, we have all been brainwashed into thinking that we are still living in medieval times. that's two steps backwards from progress or two steps down on the ladder to heaven. never downplay another person's suffering and belittle them. always have compassion for those who are less than you. for one day you may be in their shoes.

    "Folks are always asking me,
Did you fall out of a tree?
Did you slip and hurt your leg?
Can you work or do you beg?
    "Children, innocent and true,
Say, 'What happened, sir, to you?
I take time my tale to lend.
    Oftentimes I make a friend.
"Used to be that we were slapped
    With a tag called 'Handicapped.'
If you think I must be labeled,
    You may say, 'Partially disabled.'
    Part of my motion has been tabled;
My demise, though, is just fabled.
Fault may be mine or lie with none.
Fight the causes, find the fun!
    "'Crippled,' from Old English 'creep,'
No more is a term we keep.
You may say it; I won't slam it.
I may do it, not I am it.
"I say, 'Take me as I am.

As someone who struggles with depression and adhd, this actual conversation just encourages me more to keep up the fight. It’s brutal, and a lot of times it feels easier to just give up because it’s overwhelming, but that’s would be me giving power over to the demons that keep me in a self shaming state subconsciously.
It’s a battle, it’s like having a second driver at the wheel who’s constantly talking you down, but because it’s you, you sometimes rationalize the negative, then it carves a neurological pathway into your brain which then messes with your view of life. It also doesn’t help if you’re emotionally dis regulated with sleep issues lol.
Love myself before I can learn to love others and hopefully the rest will follow. At least I hope.

Getting out of the dark space is difficult because it’s too dark to see anything clearly but making a small tiny pin hole allows enough light in to find the switch. I try to focus on a word, phrase, or goal, anything that in my mind is positive. A word, a goal, a phrase or anything that is positive can become the tack that makes the pin hole. Then once i can see the pin hole of light, I focus on it (the light of positivity) and I almost always am out of the dark before I even knew I was in. My preferred phrase now is “I can’t see what’s coming” (because I’m in the dark place) this means to me that things will get worse if I can’t see the other problems that are headed my way that I would want to avoid. I hope this makes sense.

in a very different mode when debating opponents. I understand how difficult it is to hold one's temper when one's precious thoughts are challenged, rightly or wrongly. But to paraphrase Jesus, if we love and do good to our friends only, from whom we expect to receive the same in return, what credit is that to us??
Evil people can do the same.

But, I will say It's taking everything I have to keep moving forward. I'm almost 40, a single mom and struggling financially since starting college. I love going to college but I'm scared not having the income I once had before COVID. But Everytime I watch you, another fire is lit under me to keep going because I love psychology and feel we need more psychologists to fight back against the radical ideologies and help those with mental illness instead of fueling more mental illness and ruining people's lives. I dropped out of highschool my senior year when I realized I wasn't going to graduate and spent the next 20 years working my butt off, at times over 100 hours a week, to become successful. I finally realized that money alone is a terrible measurement for success and that fulfillment and happiness is how I am going to measure success going forward. Since starting college , I've done very well, even made the honor society for my academic achievements. I've maintained no lower than a 3.86 until my son and I got Covid last semester. But I will continue to work my butt off. From highschool drop out that skipped school constantly to honor student and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor society that loves college and pursuing my dreams of becoming a Psychologist....as hard as it is financially right now, its so worth it. @@tugaroocrab thank you so much for the encouragement. I'm the brokest I've ever been in my life, but I just can't imagine living another single day of my life not "living" life. I wasn't living before. I was working many many hours each week, rushing home just to hurry up and feed my son and get him to bed before it was super late, all just to do it again the next day, at a job I absolutely hated and didn't come close to utilizing my potential. I thought that was just how life was supposed to be and that since I was making decent money that I was doing ok. But I wasn't, I was miserable! Living just to get through the day, not enjoying being a mom because I was so tired and so unhappy . It's hard going from doing not so bad financially to being poor as hell. But, I cannot go back to that life. It's crazy because 20+ years ago I HATED school, but now I enjoy it (even if I keep overloading myself and have to pull all nighters many nights of the week to get my homework done, haha)

It may be harder for some but we ultimately are in control of our own lives.I can't lie and say it's easy, especially when you have children and responsibilities, and to be honest I'm on the verge of eviction because I'm not making the money I used to before starting college .....but, one thing I do know is that it will all work out and this period of pretty tough times is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and I cannot give up. Because again, we only get one shot, and time isn't exactly on my side anymore, so I have to power through and figure stuff out to make my dream a reality. That gives you a limited understanding of these events and other things that shaped the world you live in today. People can tell you about it or you can read about it in books or on the internet. God created each of us unique, a fact which identity politics on both Left and Right often fails to take into account. Why recommend any individual as a model to follow, except in the context of some very specialized training or discipleship?
As for those who are disciples of Jesus, we have an all-wise Master Who is better than any earthly model, and more persuasive.
In short, let sheep follow the Shepherd and not other sheep. The malignant
end result of sheep following sheep is a cult of personality.

Maybe I’ve misunderstood what you wrote, but I don’t like the idea that that you’re “bringing your daughter up conservative”, as if you’ve already decided what kind of person she’s going to be before she was born, like a designed product.
By the way, I’m certainly not criticising the fact that you want to show her this video. That’s great.
My point is that I think a parent should expose their child to many different ideas comprehensively (in whatever field they’re discussing), and teach them the critical thinking skills necessary to come to their own decisions, while helping them through ideas if they want a bit of help. (This should still include teaching them about the dangers of manipulative ideologies of course).
I think that’s how you arrive at the kids who will one day push the world forwards, in ways that their parents couldn’t predict, rather than just repeating the same ideas their parents instilled into them, without developing anything themselves. There’s an added bonus that a kid would feel like their thoughts are more valued by others this way.
Anyway, I think I’m going to stop telling you how to parent your own kid now, and get some sleep :)

One thing - Amala asked a question and did not interrupt the answer. That was much appreciated
