I love synthetic brushes. I used a badger for 8 years straight, same one. The last two I've been using the same synthetic brush, and I'll never go back to a badger. I love that you don't have to soak them. I put them as a mix of badger and boar, something squarely in the middle. Lots of backbone for loading soaps, yet and nice softness when it is pressed down. I'll have to look into this one once this current parker one breaks down.
www.amazon.com/Parker-Safety-Razor-SYNTHETIC-Bristle/dp/B002WA0QGY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422250163&sr=8-2&keywords=synthetic+brush Is the one I use. I looked for the Plisson today but looks like it might be sold out on their site.
Yep, this is indeed the brush to have in your lineup. I've only had the chance to use it once before heading out for vacation (choosing to use my Baxter portable travel brush) but late this week after I return... Plisson fulltime! For $30, can't really go wrong.
I have the Plisson and like it. I have several synthetic knots and I like the fact the tips are super soft, and it splays very easily. Giving good coverage, and holds lather well.
Been following your channel from pretty much the time you started on UA-cam. Can definitely see that your wet shaving technique has improved ten fold since then. Keep up the good work on your channel, a big fan.
I used this brush for a month straight and decided to go back to my omega boar brush and I could not do it. The softness of the plisson is just too awesome!
Great video Nick, nice to see you finally got The Brush Of The God's! This beats any badger brush imo, its softer on the face which lessens irritation, but it still whips up a voluminous lather even easier and it can be dried with a few rubs back and forth on a clean towel. And then there's the humane aspect. Whats not to love? It's only flaw is the knot may fall out, just use a strong epoxy glue and it'll never happen again.
Hi Nick. I value your views and opinions very much. You are the man who is very far away from drama of some FB groups and shaving forums. I use to be big fan of badger brushes(Premium Silvertip, Manchurian ETC,) then I experimented with boars (Semouge OC,1305, Omega). After I saw Busta's video about Plisson I purchased the Plisson synthetic. Since then that's the only brush I use to shave with. Thanks for sharing and your honest opinion. Read moreShow less Reply ·
I find the most impressive thing with the Plisson, is that it'll lather any soap. If I have a soap that I have trouble getting a good lather with, I use the Plisson, and it's a luxurious perfect lather every time.
Great video Nick, I've been using the Plisson synthetic shaving brush for a few months now and must say a fantastic brush, my go to brush every day, I've just been using it on my Martin de Candre shaving soap great results fantastic lather. - All the Best Mark.
The Plisson stands on it's own. It could be improved but it performs very well as is. The Plisson excels at stabbing and painting strokes with minor use of circular motions. The Plisson makes up for lack of backbone by its excellent soft splaying ability for mixing of lather for face or bowl lathering. The Plisson fibers swirl differently while loading but make/deliver lather as good as Savil Row at a much better benefit/cost ratio. It's a super soft brush that lathers very well. It's not a toy.
Agreed. I'm a die hard face lather, and have created the TOFLAC-U group on B&B and The Nook. It lacks backbone, so I guess it would be fine for the bowl, but I have not bowl lathered since the moon was blue......
I bought this brush because my skin gets very dry and sensitive during the winter and face lathering with my omega boar brush was causing extra irritation. It took a while for me to get used to how soft and floppy the Plisson is but now i have no desire to go back to boar. It is extremely gentle on my face and provides a very nice lather.
I love my plisson! It's my favorite brush (even though I only have a boar and the plisson lol) but the softness and the way it lathers soap easily is what makes it my favorite
I've been using the Plisson for some time now, and it's definitely my brush of choice. I also have Muhle and Edwin Jagger synthetics, and they are great brushes, too. But more often than not, I grab the Plisson for my morning shave.
Some of your irritation could be caused from the more scratchy brushes, I for one can not even attempt to face lather with a boar, and even badger sometimes irritates too much. I got my Plisson brush a few weeks ago and aside from a test lather have not used my bowl since I got it! No irritation and no troubles with lather, even lathers Stirling soap as quick and easy as any of my other soaps! (RR and HTGAM to name a couple)
This is my favorite brush, it's my daily go to brush. I've had it for about 4 months now and I've noticed that the wood is pulling away from the metal that the synthetic hairs are encased in, leaving a gap. It hasn't effected it's performance though. Btw I always shake it dry and hang it hairs down after using. Great video Nick!
love the caties bubbles soaps.. finally you got the plisson.. i got super lucky because they dont sell the brush by itself online either anymore, i went out to the fashion outlet mall next to the strip ( vegas ) even though its a 30 min drive from the house and they had 2 there so i snagged em both.. they said nobody usually buys em so worked in my favor.. also saw that left handed attempt. ive been trying to work on that as well.. try it off camera and you start getting use to it..keep it up. inspiration how long you work yet you still post videos for all of us.. thanks
Its my favorite brush at the moment, by far. My $270 Chubby 2 Super is just gathering dust (I think I will sell it soon). But I will be buying a Savile Row 3824 soon, so we will see how it might change the Brush rankings.
Nick, I've had the Plisson for a few months and it's the only one I use...also because I sent it to Scott Pavkovich and had him make me a custom Chargers color handle for it. The lack of backbone doesn't bother me at all since I don't need to try to push the soap INTO my face! Besides, if I wanna fell back bone I just grip the base of the not with my fingers and go from there...
I have 3 synthetic brushes, an Omega, Mühle Black Fiber, and the Plisson. I like them all. The Omega isn't in the same class as the Mühle or the Plisson. It does make a great travel brush though. I prefer the Mühle over the Plisson. Personal choice they are both great.
Do you find the fragrance weakens when you harden a croap by evaporation? I would assume that more than just water leaves the soap in that process. I love the Plisson. That, the Omega S-brush, and a Vie Long horse hair are all I've used in the past year. I no longer have any use for my badger and boar brushes.
Hi Nick.. Truly enjoy your videos. I find them very helpful and informative.. I'm very interested in the Plisson Brush. I'm having trouble finding the one in your video. I've seen a few on Amazon, but the price is very high.. Any recommendations to where to purchase one..
The Plisson is perfect for soft soaps and creams. I does OK w/ hard soaps, but one has to have a little patience or else because of the lack of backbone use a lather method that uses more water on the hard soap (like Soap Commander for example). Good brush.
Saying it was one of the best shaves of your life, then saying you're going to leave the soap open to harden, so that it's more like all the other soaps that don't give as good a shave, does not sound logical to me. Love your videos!
After using the Plisson exclusively now for around 4 months, I'm slowly casting off all my brushes, only twelve or so, to my friends who don't mind using brushes when they have known the history. I just like this brush, I really never wanted more than one brush and I made this one it. Just so happens the iKon 102 S is the other piece I will use exclusively. Have about 5 or so combinations with the other iKons and the B1 slant is my least favorite.
You wiped the mirror, Nick. Exactly what happened to me, when I use the Plisson because it's a soft makeup brush - too soft IMHO. I get lather drops on the mirror each and every time I used my Plisson synthetics........it creates the lather fast, but face feel lacks completely for me. Sold all of them, down to 38 prime badgers and 3 boars (and 1 Mühle STF v2 23 mm for travelling).
The Plisson Synthetic is my go to brush for applying talcum powder after a shower. I used to use my hands until I bought a Plisson. The weak backbone and massive splay allows it to grab a nice amount of powder, yet, with a gentle shake, the fibres releases it again. No mess and so soft. Guilty pleasure! Not a shave brush, not for me.
I never could get into synthetic brushes. The first one I tried was a really expensive Edwin Jagger synthetic which cost more than the Plisson did and it fell apart within 2 weeks. I have dubbed my Omega 10049 as old reliable. When will we see another straight razor shave?
great review, looks so nice the brush, where to get this brush online store??, i try several searches in google but nothing, the link is on the video does not shows L’Occitane
Great vid Nick, Even though I've not used the Plisson Synthetic I've used the Muhle and Omega versions and synthetics definitely are softer versus my badger and boar. Everyone should have least one in the den.
Thanks for the videos you busta and stallion got me into wet shaving and making videos. I got a lot of stuff bc of your reviews like CB LPV. I trust your opinions after that. have you tried a wd synthetic?
I have been doing some looking at a new brush. I currently only have the Van Der Hagen deluxe badger hair brush and have been trying to decide whether I prefer a face or bowl lather. I was curious to know if you had a preference of brushes by type depending on which type of lathering you do? I am still new to shaving with a DE razor and didn't know if your brush mattered for the different ways to lather. Any help in this would be very beneficial!
I wanted to grab one but they been discontinued. Also, I saw on badger and blade that if you soak the brush, the handle can absorb water and swell up, so never soak it
I've tried the Men-U synthetic which is supposed to be one of the best, and it honestly was so springy that it was not comfortable. Horrible at face lathering. Any idea how this one compares?
I love how soft and luxurious the brush feels, but I'm still getting used to the "no backbone". I really like to work the lather into my beard and I'm still debating on whether or not it's sufficient enough on doing that ! Although, this brush is a steal ! 30 bucks for something of this quality.. very nice.
The best brush atm no other brush can beat it for the price and performance i own two of them the original ones and in the store near me they still have a few of the originals left im gonna pick them all ip while i can i dont really like the shape of thr new version that much but i still think it performs almost as good as the origimal i wonder if this is nicks new favorite synthetic now
Dont get me wrong, i still love my broken in boar hair brushes. Most of the time i like to feel the scruffiness on my face when i exfoliate my skin, but.... the luxurious feel of a synthetic is great too.
I don't know, Nick. I bought the boar brush and what a back bone that one has. Then I purchased a Silvertip brush that was as big as the Simpsons chubby 3 and I loved the density but I think I'll pass on this brush it looks really soft. But what I do want to try is Caties Bubbles.
Hey Nick, have you (or anyone else reading this) ever tried the highest end badger brushes & compared them to high end synthetic? I'd love to know if the price difference is worth it
I've been speculating that the Plisson is overhyped, so naturally I have one arriving soon to find out for myself. I can't see myself enjoying a shave without a healthy scrub of a boar brush or a short-loft badger brush. But... We'll see, I suppose. I'd be interested to hear your comparison of Plisson vs Omega S10066, because a lot of people will be heartbroken if the Plisson becomes discontinued and will be seeking alternatives.
Haha, sometimes i have the same experience with Catie's Bubbles and this brush. The soap turns into a gooey cream. I think it helps to have a drier brush.
It happened to me too, Chris Cullen told me to leave the tub open for about a week and used it. After a couple of weeks it became more solid, not a as solid as B&M, but solid enough. BTW great video Nick, keep them comin'.
Can anyone make a comparison between this kind of knot and the S-Brush series (boar synthetic) by OMEGA? I have a 10065, the same Shave Busta is using for Soap Wars, and I have to say I can't imagine anything softer, still maintaing backbone.
I'd have to agree, I picked it up in the NYC store on vacation last week and I've been using it ever since over my Muhle synthetic I brought with me. Very happy with the price to, the same brush would cost the equivalent of $53 in the UK. That's why I wanted to wait until I visited the States to try it out.
Hey nick there is a soap on Amazon by men's soap company Himalayas is the scent truly a surprising soap 13 bucks... Super slick which is odd in such hard water. Ps dovo shavette worth a try!
I felt this in l'occitane store and it felt floppy, more like a makeup brush rather then a shaving brush. I prefer my whipped dog silvertip and my omega boar brush both which have great backbone while still being soft and exfoliating at the same time. Good to hear your thoughts on this issue because I'm kinda tired of hearing this called "brush of the gods"
I do the same thing. Can't speak for Nick, but it's just more comfortable lathering that side of my face, so I play with the lather more on that side and smooth it over my face at the end. That isn't to say I ignore the other cheek - it's very important to get between the whiskers with your soap all over your face. For small adjustments in consistency, though, I favor the cheek its most natural to lather.
Youre going to have to do another review with a soap you are used to. I finally got one of those, but im not sure if i like the Omega S-Brush better or the Plisson.
I used the Omega S-Brush tonight. Im going to have to go back and forth a bit, but i kinda like the S-Brushes backbone. I also want to get a Hi-Brush too.
I had a feeling this would be the case. I guess the Plisson is lauded for making lather quicker and easier, but I actually prefer to spend time building a lather and working it in with a good scrub. I really don't care how quick or easy it comes.
Check if there are L'Occitane stores near you. If not, you can keep checking the website to see if the listing comes back. They seem to be discontinuing the $30 edition, which would leave your only options as 1) used, or 2) direct from Plisson, which is $60 but may have a nicer handle.
Really depends on which blades you are using. Some are longer lasting than others. Also the thickness of your stubble will obviously cause the blade to dull faster. I have an average thickness beard and use Astra platinums and I usually change blades every 4 shaves
In my opinion, you left too many variables open in this video, and you don't usually do that. Would have preferred it if you used your go-to razor, blade, and soap, and then let the brush be the only variable.
Thomas, the online L'Occitane store seems to run out of inventory frequently. If you have a L'Occitane store in a mall near you, given them a call. There is a good chance that they will have some in stock at the same online price. I had the same situation here in Minneapolis prior to the holidays. The online store was out, but several local stores had them. I ended up getting a Muhle 23mm silver tip synthetic for a gift from family and am enjoying that greatly over the badger and boar brushes that I have. A little more backbone than the Plisson and more expensive ($80 versus $30) but still very soft.
I looked up the closest store to me and its two and a half hours away. With gas and all it wouldn't be worth it to drive back and forth. Guess i'll have to keep checking the online store. I've been wanting to try a Muhle synthetic brush.
The brush is no longer in production. The closest one to this model would be Razorock Plissoft product line-up. Same knot and available from 22mm to 30mm knot size.
Please don't put that thing anywhere near your Simpson Chubby. It doesn't even deserve to be in the same room. These gods can shave with a makeup brush if they want to, but men shave with animal hair brushes.
I agree. It's a perfect makeup brush, so says my girlfriend. It's too soft for my face, it lacks feel and it lacks backbone. Owned 6 Plisson synthetics, now own ZERO. Have only kept my PRIME badgers, so I'm now down to 38 badger brushes and 3 boars. Only own one synthetic, for travel purpose - the Mühle STF v2 23 mm. The Mühle is better than the PLisson in my opinion, yes it's springy, but it has a bit of backbone, which the Plisson lacks completely.
Nick, I love you to death and your videos are what brought me to this community, you re one of my tops in this community, however, I would like to see you do a video to where you do a simple application of soap to your face and then apply in the same manner as this video which in my opinion is a very overdone application. I seem to go with the school of thought with Chris Bailey and Con (shave the man) that 98% of exfolition is done in the shower and see if there is a noticable difference. This is not meant to be mean spirited or critical, I hold you in the highest regards. All the best.
Nick that handle is terrible. Let me make you a new one. No charge! I believe you are local so shipping would only be a day. Check out my brushes on facebook. Shave Brush Jimmy is my Facebook page.
You can't beat the price and feel of this brush. Brush of the Gods is always going to have a place in my den. Thanks for the video Nick!

What synthetic brush do you use? I'm very happy with the Plisson

Hi Nick, how would you rank this brush compared to your Simpson Chubby and Semogue SOC?
Saying it was one of the best shaves of your life, then saying you're going to leave the soap open to harden, so that it's more like all the other soaps that don't give as good a shave, does not sound logical to me. Love your videos!
Good point! Haha. That was illogical. But i think that it can maintain its properties a bit hardened. I had so much loaded up
After using the Plisson exclusively now for around 4 months, I'm slowly casting off all my brushes, only twelve or so, to my friends who don't mind using brushes when they have known the history. Another great shave Tom Bra... err Nick!
Plisson synthetic fibers definitely deserve the hype :)
Stirling 26mm plisson knot large acrylic handlr has just laid the original plisdon to rest. 20 bucks too
great review, looks so nice the brush, where to get this brush online store??, i try several searches in google but nothing, the link is on the video does not shows L’Occitane

I really love it with certain soaps. Especially softer soaps like Catie's Bubbles. I prefer my boar brush with soaps like the original HTGAM formula.
Sorry but the sterling kong rules, lmaooo!!
Hey nick there is a soap on Amazon by men's soap company Himalayas is the scent truly a surprising soap 13 bucks... Super slick which is odd in such hard water. Ps dovo shavette worth a try!
Hey you're in the Plisson Club now! lol Awesome!
Can Someone post a link of where to buy this? Thanks
Is this no longer available? I am hunting for one
hey nick I noticed that you take so much more time lathering up your left cheek than your right one all the time is their a reason?
I do the same thing. Can't speak for Nick, but it's just more comfortable lathering that side of my face, so I play with the lather more on that side and smooth it over my face at the end. That isn't to say I ignore the other cheek - it's very important to get between the whiskers with your soap all over your face. For small adjustments in consistency, though, I favor the cheek its most natural to lather.
Yea I totally understand, just been watching his videos an after a while I noticed he favored one side more often lol that's all
I guess they must no longer carry that brush, can't find it on the site.
hey nick, give simpsons chubby 2 synthetic a try, I have one and I love it ! Its a very good brush.
Love my synthetics and badgers, lather monsters!
Youre going to have to do another review with a soap you are used to.
I finally got one of those, but im not sure if i like the Omega S-Brush better or the Plisson.
I've got a Plisson on the way -- mostly to verify the hype -- and I've been curious about comparing it to the new Omega line of synthetics.
I really don't care how quick or easy it comes.
damn nick that lathering speed from 4:10 you must have practise a lot :D
Why didn't you put the aftershave on your face?
The ikon razor you use is it the 101?
On the link for the brush I only saw it in a $114.00 set, is there anywhere you can buy the brush by itself?
Check if there are L'Occitane stores near you. If not, you can keep checking the website to see if the listing comes back. They seem to be discontinuing the $30 edition, which would leave your only options as 1) used, or 2) direct from Plisson, which is $60 but may have a nicer handle.
You may ask one of Plisson haters to sell it or PIF it to you. I'm sure they are just waiting to get rid of it.
Got it,and love it
How many shaves are razors good for? I only do two passes.
Really depends on which blades you are using. Some are longer lasting than others. Also the thickness of your stubble will obviously cause the blade to dull faster. I have an average thickness beard and use Astra platinums and I usually change blades every 4 shaves
I guess I need to try this one out ;-)
great!
Hey Nick nice video, but to me the Plisson seem to feel like a toy. Thanks for sharing and have a good one!
In my opinion, you left too many variables open in this video, and you don't usually do that. Would have preferred it if you used your go-to razor, blade, and soap, and then let the brush be the only variable.
For such a popular brush no one seems to sell it. The online store doesn't. No way I'm paying 60 bucks for it on eBay. What's the deal?
So cool
Anyone know a uk seller for this brush?
The brush is no longer in production. The closest one to this model would be Razorock Plissoft product line-up. Same knot and available from 22mm to 30mm knot size.
Sounds like a Kent brush in synthetic
Great brush; however, the knot separated from the handle after a couple of months of use.
I glued it back, too. As I said, it's a great brush, but the quality was lacking for me.
Nice
Please don't put that thing anywhere near your Simpson Chubby. It doesn't even deserve to be in the same room. These gods can shave with a makeup brush if they want to, but men shave with animal hair brushes.
Really???
Valdi L I didn't even finish lathering with it once. My neighbour now uses it as a barbecue sauce brush.
Robert S. Very funny. HAHAHAHA,
VikingShaver WOW I'm extremely impressed. What is the big deal with backbone in shaving brush, Could you explain it to me.
In my eye. That was she said.
Nice brush but I prefer boar hair brushes with more backbone
You can get all kind of Plissons with nicer knots than this plastic one direct from Plisson

I also got the schaving bowl of captains choice amazing bowl.
Its a glorified make up brush !!! LOL !!!!
Haha! Badger will always be the real deal
nick shaves Bahahahahahaaaaa
ELF
I like them all depends on what kind of soap, I'm using the Semogue 610 boar right now and really liking it great little brush!
Badger and Boar are the Gods of the shaving brushes.
Son, if you can't do a BBS in 2 passes you're an amateur. The Plisson brushes circa mid 2000's were much better than they're now.
