@@Horatio_Ticklebottom For now. MARSOC is a relatively new thing, but they've had some pretty high level guys in Force Recon and whatnot for awhile. I'm expecting the Marine Corps to develop a Tier 1 unit eventually. From what I understand, previous leadership were stubborn about no one commanding Marines except other Marines and kept them out of developing a separate full special forces unit until recently. Force Recon was technically "special operations CAPABLE" rather than being officially special operations units because of the structure not being under SOCOM, but now they have their own independent structure and funding with MARSOC and do their own things not just whatever the Marine Corps is doing like the lower tier units. Raiders did some recon/ intel work before a DEVGRU mission I've read about, and I'm expecting them to really excel as they get more developed and experienced.
Guys I SO WISH I had known about this when I was in 2005-2010. I went in trying to be aircrew (I wanted to be hanging out the side of a helicopter layin’ down hate like I saw the guy do in full metal jacket), but after a long time waiting for a spot to open up for me to ship out, my recruiter met with me and told me that I didn’t qualify for aircrew because of my eyesight (which I later found out was a lie) so I needed to pick something else to do. I said “what’s my next best option?” He said “be a mechanic, you can maintain the helicopters and still catch rides on them when they move from place to place.” So I joined the Corps with a 6000 series MOS intent on working on hueys and cobras (I wanted to be close to the action), and lo and behold they stuck me with F/A-18’s. When I checked into the fleet I quickly realized that my job was gonna suck and the overall atmosphere of my command was just shitty and unmotivated. I stuck out like a sore thumb running a 290 PFT and making meritorious rank. Also, my unit had just returned from its last deployment to Iraq right before I checked in and the wing General made the decision to pull our aircraft out of combat operations rotation and only be used for training missions. Long story short, I was able to deploy twice, but not to combat, so unfortunately I was never able to participate in OIF or OEF, which really sucks now since both of those wars are over. Overall I’m proud of my service and I made E-5 in 5 years, but I realize now that had I known about MARSOC, I totally totally TOTALLY would have gone that route. Also, I would have STAYED IN because I actually enjoyed my job. I’m 34 now and it’s hard to believe that I would be starting my 17th year of service next month had I stayed in. The air wing is not the real Marine Corps and it has more in common with the Navy than it does the rest of the corps (at least on the F/A-18 side). Anyway, take a cautionary tale from me...if you like doing “Marine shit”, DON’T JOIN THE AIR WING cause you will be sorely disappointed!

Force Recon was invited to join the ranks of SOCOM but Gen. Grey refused to let them. In terms, direct action, a Force Reon Marine can hold their own against a Raider CSO
Something more related to this video is SARC's (SOC) (MARSOC) Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman/Special Amphibious Raiders Corpsman. That be a good cover of information about these badasses you've have had to work with these awesome guys before in the military.
The USMC resisted entering the SOF community for decades. When they were ordered to raise up a Special Operations force during the mid 2000s, they raised up t top tier unit. Good job Marines!
As far as I know all Marine Raiders are seasoned Marines.. There are not any SF 18X style contracts or Ranger enlistment contracts like in the Army... Also, I thought it was interesting that all team leaders were Captains and not lieutenants... (According to the video).. Very interesting.
The more I learn about the different Special Operations forces, the more confused I get, while at the same time enlightened. It's like you have this map and what you know is visible, and what you don't is all black, but the name of the destination is visible. What I know: (all to an extent) SEALs, Green Berets, PJ, and Force Recon, Rangers. This video(and ones like them) shed some light on parts I have no clue about, but now I'm confused how they all fit together, and why the overlap(if there is an overlap), and how they all fit into the bigger picture. Like, Ive heard of the Marine Raiders, but I did not know how they fit into MARSOC, but now I'm confused with what Force Recon is in comparison. Unless you have already done it, I think a full length episode on US SOCOM pertaining to each SO group from each branch respectively would be pretty sweet.
The issue is that each element, ie - Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines have their own specialized units (SEALS, Raiders, SF, CCT's, etc) that have their own missions specific to their branch. However, under JSOC or Joint Special Operations Command and other of these types of organizations they bring together the various units and they work together on a specific mission. For example, a CCT may be assigned to a joint Delta/Seal team to provide close air support during the operation. He has the right communications equipment and know how to talk with the AF support birds and since he is an elite operator, he can hang with the joint team and not slow them down or jeopardize the mission.
Then more properly, a video of the SO groups of each branch separately rather than a full video. I know they work together at times. That aspect does not confuse me. Nether does the fact of why different branches have their own SO. It's the fact that they have multiple units(aside from Delta, or Team 6/DEVGRU(?)). More for my(and others) interests of knowledge on all things Military SO, rather than being someone who is confused and just don't/wont get it.
@@copperjarhead Each branch of the military is massive. Even the smaller elements like the USMC still have 200,000 troops. Each branch has it specialists to do certain jobs. Hence why their are Green Berets and Marine Raiders. They are going to be very similar because they exhibit the same unconventional space of warfare. You will find that SEAL's and Marsoc are very similar in their capabilities but then you will find that there are Rangers who can do the exact same job. It would not be possible to get Green Berets to go out and do the job for the Navy or Airforce. The resources required to do that would be insane.
Marsoc are members of SOCOM which means they are actually part of that command structure. Force Recon are an actual division in the USMC that are under the command of USMC. The Navy has SEAL's that come under SOCOM as well but they also have such groups as EOD that are specifically under Navy control. The key to all of this is that each branch gets to keep their own special operations force that they can rely on and are not at risk of being called away. Does this make sense?

Quick question, why do all branches of the US military have special operations units with essentially identical mission profiles and assault capabilities? Had you not mentioned marsoc or the marine corps, I'd have thought you were talking about the special forces.
Because different branches of the military run their own shit. And they are possessive and they have an ego. Think about it. If you were a Marine General, you wouldn’t say, “Oh looks like the Navy’s got this amphibious and airborne stuff covered with the SEALS. And the Army’s got this intelligent thinking mans soldier hearts and minds stuff covered with the Green Berets. There’s really nothing for my Marines to do. Guess we will sit this one out...”
Is there anyway I could talk to you online in a chat room or something? I’d like to hear about your experiences and gather some more information about SF.
They also wanted to maintain their Recon Marine Commando status within their training most come from Marine Corp Reconnaissance Commandos or other experience combat Marines or admin skill set with three years experience in the Corp. Recon is basically set Commandos and Raiders are SOF as some info was spoken in this video.
Yes. Green Berets have had a significant influence and input in the formation of its training and school house. Might as well have the best lead the way.
@Arma Lol Who else were they going to have teach them Unconventional Warfare? Seals? Nope. Not a chance. Retired Green Berets as contractors were in every part of the school house in the beginning.
Force Recon is considered special operations. However, they are not part of SOCOM. Why? Well there's a history to that, but basically USMC said "There is no 'special' Marine. ALL Marines are special" and then the wars in yhe ME started and as things ramped up, USMC wanted a bigfer piece ofnthe action. Thus, MARSOC was created. They remain closely tied to Force Recon however and Force Recon is still respected as an elite group.
First of all become a Marine and then judge from their. For both you will need great all round performance such as strength, endurance , swimming, climbing and so on.
Listen to bighand but after that, try to do both if you can. Being a recon marine is extremely badass and it drastically improves your chances for being selected into MARSOC Raider Assessment and Selection and completing training.
Reconnaissance History... Marines from 1st Force Reconnaissance Company and SEALs from Naval Special Warfare Task Unit One attached to the 13th MEU execute Maritime Interdiction Operations/Visit Board Search and Seizure (MIO/VBSS) on the Iraqi Oil Tanker Amuriyah in October 1990. The entire joint Force Recon/SEAL assault element was commanded by Admiral William H. McRaven (he would later command the DEVGRU assault of the Bin Laden Compound, but at the time of this mission he was a Lieutenant Commander). ADM McRaven chose the Force Recon Platoon as the lead assault element and his SEAL Platoon as the aerial QRF because “the best unit for the mission was the Marines, who were exceptionally well trained in close-quarters battle-the kind of skills we would need for this operation.”. A more detailed account of this mission is captured in ADM McRavens book ”Sea Stories”.
I would like to know what do you mean your friend have a haircut too short? I thought in combat zone when keeping personal hygiene is kinda tricky, a shorter haircut would be quite beneficial.
Being at the head quarters, we both had short hair cuts. But if mine was 1.5 inches on top his was 1cm. So I gave him a hard time. Now he is bald. So he literally has "too short of hair." Nonetheless, he is still a great officer and leader.....
Insertion capabilities. All Raiders are dive and jump qualified. This is because there are less of them. In SF, you'll have an ODA dive qualified as well but not every SF Soldier is dive qualified.

@@benhaney9629 I would treat my job like what it is, a duty, not a military dick measuring contest.
Semper Fi! 🇺🇸
Excellent...
You should do a video about Navy SARCs, since they're attached to MARSOC often
Thanks for the information
God Bless Marsoc.
SPIRITUS INVICTUS SUPERINTENSIFIED, MARSOC MAGNIFIED!!🇺🇸🦅🗽⚔️
Is there anyway I could talk to you online in a chat room or something? I’d like to hear about your experiences and gather some more information about SF.
Feel free to send me a message using the messenger app at the bottom of my web site.
1st Battalion is currently undergoing transition to NC, so by sometime in 2022, I think, they'll all be in Lejeune
Hey, I’m new to the channel and it’s my dream to be a recon marine. Can you make a video of marine force recon please.
It’s like a mix of SF and the seals.
What do MARSOC raiders do when not doing special operations? Do they just work with First MD?
They train like crazy to be operational ready. Sort of like a footballer off season.
Thank you.
Is it safe to say that MARSOC organization and training was influenced by Army SF?
Correct
Marine Raiders have been around since WW2. Green Berets have been around since 1950s.
So are they like a mix of green berets and seals...in a nut shell?
Why aren’t Force Recon also considered to be special operations?
Raiders nor recon do a jungle training segment?
Force Recon is considered special operations. However, they are not part of SOCOM. Why? Well there's a history to that, but basically USMC said "There is no 'special' Marine. ALL Marines are special" and then the wars in yhe ME started and as things ramped up, USMC wanted a bigfer piece ofnthe action. Thus, MARSOC was created. They remain closely tied to Force Recon however and Force Recon is still respected as an elite group.
As for jungle training, I dunno. But both have the option if trying out for a Ranger tab, which includes jungle training.
Nate Richkind kind of strange that the USMC stated there are no special Marines when clearly force recon and Raiders are by far more specialized. 🤔
Very good videos you keep posting, is there anything I won't know about each SOPs without actually serving, haha?
Did you ever work with PSYOP? I was hoping to get more info and find out if it is a good career path.
Do a video on RASP.
You should do a video covering all of the Spec Forces units that make up SOCOM (if you haven’t already)
Very good Job bro 💀👊🏻
Psy Ops next!
+1

Just in case you haven't seen yet
SEMPER FI!!
Can you fo a video on Navy SARCs? ( special amphibious reconnaissance corpsman)
They are more similar to green berret than seals right?
No, the other way around
what becomes of the Force Recon now?
They are still useful since Recon belongs exclusively to the Marine Corps while Marine Raiders belong to USSOCOM.
I’m debating on going Raiders or Force Recon. 🤔 Anyone here currently in either? Or recently was?
First of all become a Marine and then judge from their. For both you will need great all round performance such as strength, endurance , swimming, climbing and so on.
Listen to bighand but after that, try to do both if you can. Being a recon marine is extremely badass and it drastically improves your chances for being selected into MARSOC Raider Assessment and Selection and completing training.
So question do you know by any chance what rank a BXO is in the marine raiders?
For the get score of 105 and the fitness score of 235 is that a retake or your original test for those
GT = 105..... That Says it ALL..... I remember in Detroit MEPS meeting the Marine recruitees with their 25 ASVAB scores.... Jeez...
Do a marsoc vs rangers vid
I know recon isn’t part of Socom but can you please make a video about The recon marines please
Great😀😀😀
I would like to know what do you mean your friend have a haircut too short? I thought in combat zone when keeping personal hygiene is kinda tricky, a shorter haircut would be quite beneficial.
Being at the head quarters, we both had short hair cuts. But if mine was 1.5 inches on top his was 1cm. So I gave him a hard time. Now he is bald. So he literally has "too short of hair." Nonetheless, he is still a great officer and leader.....
US marines are famous for their very tight hair cuts.
Can prior army join the marine corps and after-while attempt selection ?
What’s the difference between the Army Green Berets and Marsoc Raiders?
Green Berets more focused on linking up with , leading and training foreign irregular forces.
Insertion capabilities. All Raiders are dive and jump qualified. This is because there are less of them. In SF, you'll have an ODA dive qualified as well but not every SF Soldier is dive qualified.
Can you do a video on whos ranked number 1 seal team 6, delta, raiders?
