Dr Mindy, I have lost 52 pounds with intermittent fasting & since doing 36 hour fasts I’ve lost 4 inches in my waist! I am almost down to a normal waist circumference & I’m 56 years old! Thanks for all that you do, I appreciate you! ❤

36 hour fasts combined with walking and eating low carb definitely works best for me for slowly but surely shrinking that waistline. I’m 71 and I’ve lost 60 pounds.

    1. Exercise around 2 hours after waking to use up the cortisol.
    2. Move/exercise after every stressful event.
    3. Get all your work done in the day and start winding down as the evening begins.
    4. Do a 36 hour fast at least once a week if you have a lot of belly fat to lose. (The study participants did 36:12 for a month).
    5. A cold plunge might also help.

      I don’t know how too?
I feel my work is stressful, as a postal worker… feel I’ll put more stress in my body, If I need to exercise, after work.. am so tired 😕 can’t exercise 2 hours after waking up, I’ll be at work.
I might be able to do some 36 hours, but will have to arrange it along my period.. ploung get lost in the translation, is that cold shower? I could probably do that…
I really feel messed up, need energy and my mild depression to go away 🥺

Big note: Belly fat is due to cortisol.
    My other notes:
    1. We have to use it so we don’t store it. Peaks 2 hours after waking. so that means we should exercise two hours after waking. And this makes perfect sense to me because I know I need to start my day seeking God and praying and reading the Bible and all that. So if wake at 7, work out at 9.
    2. Exercise after a stressful event. Be sure to work out after it! Or at least take a walk. When cortisol rises in our bodies, we’ve got to move, or else it’s gonna be stored as belly fat.
    3. Front-load your day. For her, meetings between 8-4. Done at 4. Start to wind down in back half of day. Less storage of cortisol when we tackle stressful things earlier in the day. When David went to slay Goliath, he got up early!
    4. A 36-hr fast really helps with losing belly fat! Good to do frequently. Can really change waist circumference by doing that once a week! “The best diet (or fasting lifestyle) for you is one you can do long-term.”
    5. Two types of fat: white fat and brown fat. White - around visceral organs & belly. Normally very hard to burn, but fasting turns white fat into brown fat, which makes it much easier to get rid of! A continual behavior of fasting - habit of fasting lifestyle - helps turn white fat to brown fat, so your workouts and subsequent fasts can burn that fat easier.
    6. Cold plunges. They also turn white fat to brown fat, thereby reducing belly fat.
Wow. I am staying with my parents in law where their pool is unheated (and it’s winter) and I think I’m gonna get in it tomorrow morning! Eek 😬
    I will add
    7. Do things that relax you. I think anything that lowers cortisol (unless it adds calories) will help reduce belly fat. For me, I like to lie down while reading Christian books or lie down outside and think about what I’m grateful for or listen to UA-cam videos like sermons or helpful tips (like these). Lying down seems to reduce cortisol I think!

    • @ayeshanasir9916

Use cortisol. Exercise two hours after waking.
After stressful event - move…walk even for a short time. Use it so you don’t store it.
Front load your day. Exercise then after four o’clock wind down.
Power of 36 hour fast. Fast 36 hours days and 12 hours off (eating window) for thirty days. Can do once a week or once a month.
Two types of fat. White stubborn visersal fat. Brown fat easier to burn. Change white to brown by intermittent fasting off and on. Exercise also helps.
Fast like a Girl book for more information.
Cold plunges also turn white fat to brown.

I've incorporated the 36 hour fast once a week for over a year. My promise was to honor my body so the basic rule was a min 24 hours to no more than 36. I average at least 32 hours a week. I don't stress myself out because it's about what feels good. Also, like you I front load my mornings (naturally), I'm an early riser so I set my mind and body into soul alignment. I start with facial massage therapy (self), reflection, workout, dance (not a professional, do it for fun and get my body alive), and then I eat /go about my day. Most of these things I was doing before the 36 hour fast. I say all this because the fasting was the game changer. I have IBS and a few other autoimmune challenges, the fasting has enabled my system to better handle digestive, I have not gotten sick, Inflammation in my skin decreased, cognitive processing improved, improved hair and skin, and the BIGGEST change I noticed was my hormones and significantly decreased (actually nonexistent) my anxiety. I feel like I am more balanced and not easily stressed. Honestly, I think it's because of all the frontload activities and a clean plant based diet. But, I give the most credit to fasting. And yes, my waist is smaller and ability to build lean muscle improved. I look forward to my fasting period. Really enjoy your content.

Dr. Mindy, I just want to tell you, as I break my first ever 24 hour fast, in a way that allows my body to continue autophagy, that your videos on the subject of autophagy and belly fat are just right. Over the past two weeks your videos have taken up a great deal of my time and have taught me how to create my fasting lifestyle. thank you so much! I was never any good at fasting earlier in my life yet the 16/ 8 is basically my natural rhythm so with your videos it's been very easy for me to explore a variety of fasts that you recommend and during these two weeks of exploration and learning I've lost a solid 10 lb which was sorely needed for my blood pressure. I'm really excited to use autophagy and I hope that I can keep myself from being too ambitious and get myself into a spot. I am so enjoying this! Who knew giving up food would be such a wonderful thing? This has given me hope which has been very hard to come by the past 6 years. I don't recognize my cancer ridden seventy-year-old self and I am completely smitten with the idea of helping my body clean itself up while also getting my body closer to one I recognized at the same time! Thank you dr. Mindy, for being she who knew and for showing up on my UA-cam feed at just the right moment

It has been very easy as I have been eating healthy my whole life, but I haven't been able to lose the last 10 lbs and I have started to feel achey and I don't feel my brain is as sharp as it can be. I am 58 and struggled through menopause. I have been fasting for a couple of days but would love to explore the longer fasts. I also have hypo-thyroidism. As I am trying to put in my fasting times in my calendar, I am stumped as to how to handle the 24 hr - 36 hr fasts. If you start your fasts at 8pm and go 24 hrs. How do you break your fast and restart?

Hi Jacquie, great question I've had also.. But I'm not the expert... Just started intentional fasting two weeks ago. I had the same issue trying to schedule fasts. I decided to do 28 hours fasting from 6 to 12 daily because that's very co close to my natural rhythm. I'll do a 36 hour this weekend and I'm not sure how that will start and end yet but I figured I would navigate it in the moment. I think it doesn't have to be meticulous timing... But more of a work with it, organic process. I'm very eager to join a Fast Training Week with Dr. Mindy, soon.... And maybe she'll hoo on her and answer this for us... I'm sure not the expert here! Best wishes to you, Jacquie.

I love this woman. She's basically talking about what Vedas and Ayurveda had been telling us for the past 5000 years but in a simpler way for our western minds. I started following her today after seeing that no matter how much I tried, the weight does not go. No one talks to us about the power of emotional stress and how to overcome it with movement. (FUnny, just like doggies do after a stressful situation: they shake) I went to an Ayurvedic doctor and he told me exactly what she`s explaining here, BUT she does it in a way that helps you understand WHY do we do it. Thank you. I'll start today!

Already down from 91 to 83, probably will be down to 80 by day 21 and then gain 4 kg of water weight back. Its true that the fat you lose from belly during a longer fast never comes back again if we stick to a long term normal diet that we can follow.

@@vouladalagozi2381 I found it easy this way but everyone's body is different so it might or might not work for you.
      1. Started with reducing amount of snacks between meals
      2. Started cleaner version(more veggies less unhealthy fats) Keto diet for 2 months after that
      3. Fasting got easy as keto reduces hunger.
      4. Started to try out 24 hr fasts once a week.
      5. Transitioned to 36 hr fast once a week
      6. Tried out 72 hrs fast several times but failed because 48-72hrs is a difficult period.
      7. Sucessfully did 72-80hrs fast.
      8. Next time 7 day fast was much easier.
      9. Tried to do a 21day fast but had to break it on Day 15 due to kid's birth.
      10. Tried 21 days water only fast. Was a breeze since only initial 3 days is the difficult period.
      11. Best strategy usually is to reduce food from 100% to 0% gradually in a week's time before fasting, preferably Healthy Keto. Then when you break the fast, same thing in reverse, starting with bone broth, then some veggies on day 2, eggs and veggies on day 3 and so on for 7 days.
Refeeding is usually the most dangerous part that people get wrong after fasting. It can e fatal as well if a lot of refined or simple carbs are introduced all of a sudden.
Hope that helped. Best of Luck.

That was really helpful, Dr. Mindy, losing belly fat is such a challenge. Fasting is the only way I have been able to lose weight, 40lbs dropped off effortlessly. After tweaking my diet from vegetarian to whole food plant-based organic, high fiber, low fat, low protein, no sugar, processed foods or alcohol, filtered water, flax seeds, broccoli, berries and a few supplements, and Ezekiel sprouted grain bread. I had Endometrial Cancer, sugery and brachy-therapy a year ago, which was less than fun. My Oncologist is so impressed, she says that my recurrence risk is only 3%, I am in my mid-seventies. Hi Dr. Mindy, I read fast like a girl and I think it’s an amazing work and I’ve already recommended it to a number of women that I know and my husband. I have been intermittent fasting for about five years now but after listening to you started with the 36 hour fast, which actually ended up being 40 to 42 hours every other day, so in essence, one day of eating for a six hour window, and then fasting the next day. It’s the only thing that I’ve done in so long that really made a change to my physique and I’m so pleased although I dropped only about 10 pounds in a months time of every other day fasting, I look and feel fabulous, I still have about 15 pounds to go and I’ll do it again but first I need to take care of my gallbladder because I have gallstones and I have one blocking a duct so first a gallstone flush to get that out and then I’ll go back to intermittent fasting. I love this lifestyle I love eating keto, primarily and flexing out once a week, I listen to Ben Azadi as well and thank he is awesome and I just want to thank you for all the contact you put out there. Because I come from a heredity of obese people and lost a sister who weighed over 600lbs, I decided I needed a total reboot of my system and so I just suddenly made up my mind and went for a 48 hour fast. It was much easier than I thought it would be and I was stunned that I never really got that hunger pain until one hour before I was to end my fast mad I’m SURE it was a mind thing. I ended my fasting with good lean protein - chicken- and cabbage sautéed with ham. So I got a double of protein. I felt great while fasting!
I decided to do it during my working hours so that I’d be busy and have something to take my mind off of it and it worked. It wouldn’t have worked if I had done it on the weekend. Too much down time.

So, last meal today, Tuesday, was at 6:30pm. I’ll eat again around 6:30am on Thursday . It will be a new challenge for me 😊

Started fasting and lost 4” around my transverse belly. I’m a believer and will continue. A 17-19 hour fast daily is sustainable for me and I see/feel the difference right away. Thank you, can’t wait to read the books.

Where are you getingbthis information from? Show the proven studies that are from neutral parties and have a large group of placebos for all races and non placebos for all races in the studies.
Until then you are no different than a bunch of nimrods that claim sh*t with no REAL PROVEN FACTS AND EVIDENCE behind them and not just some stupid snake oil idea!
Also, what is your degree? Are you even qualified to be spouting out dangerous diets?

Thank you so much! I love fast like a girl and I can hardly wait for your new book to come out! Thank you for taking the time to do these videos! I am down 10 pounds since I started this process. I do have to say I did the 36 hour alternate day program for eight days And I stopped when I got a really bad cold and broke out with some cold sores. Decided to go back to the 30 day reset and go slow.

I’ve been living a fasting lifestyle for about 4 years now. I recently added cold showers to my day. It’s hard, especially because it’s winter, but I’m starting to notice benefits like feeling more energetic. I’m a pretty active person anyway, but now instead of wanting to crash after a long bike ride, I feel energized after that cold shower.

Currently trying the 36/12. Dropped 4 lbs in 2 weeks. I think I'll go for 2 more weeks, if it feels right, then switch it up. But it pretty easy to do. It's a lot easier to eat nothing than it is to eat a little. Good tip in re morning workouts within 2 hours of waking. I'm going to start that RFN. Thanks for that suggestion!

I just subscribed recently. I've been doing some of your fasting tips, and I have lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm excited to try this 36-hour rule I've done it once a couple of years ago. My goal will be to do it once a week. I'm 51, and very active and a meal prepper. No success! Finally, I'm getting some traction.

I am so glad that I found you! I was sooo close to taking the wrong route with Ozempic for weight loss and risking thyroid cancer. (Lisa Marie Pressley's autopsy showed that Ozempic caused a blockage in her intestines when it adhered to the scar tissue from her previous gastric bypass surgery for weight loss! All 30 feet of intestines died at once!) I lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks doing it your way and the knowledge you give will ensure a lifetime of better health I am sure. (Please pin my post to hopefully save others from taking the wrong route)

That is completely untrue. There was no evidence that Lisa Marie Presley was using Ozempic. Her autopsy and subsequent toxicology report, do not indicate Ozempic. She had therapeutic levels of oxycodone in her blood and her cause of death was listed as “small bowel obstruction as a result of a previous bariatric surgery.”

I just am in my 3rd week of semaglutide. I just come across this story. She said some different things that's got me wondering. hey she may be right. You know how you hear the same things about weight loss everywhere. She combined some things I already knew . But joining these things together I have never done. Just the total opposite if you will. All my stress comes in the afternoon when he gets home from work. The unstressed if there's going to be no stress is when I'm home alone during the day. Then as 3 o'clock approached I can even feel the stress accumulating in my chest. It gets tight. And I get nervous and lock myself in my room until he goes to bed. It's not always like that but enough to make a bad difference in my lifestyle habits. There us another thing that chases and helps eliminate cortisol. I think it magnesium. I just seen a clip on it. Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I don't know what planging or plunging is???? Maybe if you get this you can reply. If not I could Google it. Off to a new start today.

Very inspired right now. Just did a 48 hour fast as a reset, just water and green tea! Broke my fast with some fat and I will start doing some variation now, eating for muscle, eating for hormones. Don't have much weight to lose, but I might try incorporating a 36 hour fast once a week. Thank you for this information, I'm a post menopausal woman in my mid 50's and practicing OMAD since 2019. Time for some variation!

Dr. Mindy I found you on your talk with Tom Bilyeu. I've been fasting for about 3 years now and have lost a total of 43 pounds. I started with "not eating till noon" and then over the last few months learned about OMAD and have been doing that for less than 6 months and have found it easier than I ever thought it could be. My son said it like this "Mom it's easier to not eat than it is to stop eating" and man is he right! I've been fasting ever since and think it will be what I do for the rest of my life. I've subscribed and am ready to try all three of your suggestions. The only one I will struggle with is the cold plunges. I suppose I will have to fill my bathtub and dunk myself. I still have about 50 pounds to lose so this is very helpful and exciting to learn!

These were such helpful tools Mindy. I’ve been skinny and healthy for years and can’t seem to shed those few points of belly fat. But I’ve had a ton of stress. I knew it has to be something other than diet, because my plate is cleaner than anyone I know. Every time I have stress lately I make sure I move! Thanks so much Mindy.

I’ve always played with varying my fasting; started to do 24 hour fast twice a week the past month or two, just did a little over 48 hour fast and now I want to change things up and instead of 24 hour twice a week I will add 36 hour fast as well. Your channel has been a game changer for for my husband and I. I’ve been following you for quite some time, read your Fast Like a Girl book and still continue to watch your videos and keep learning each time. Thank you!!!

I have so much respect and belief in Dr Mindy. Every time I listen to a podcast she is on , or watch one of her videos, I learn so much. I did not know about the two fats and how changing white to brown is so important, I used to have a mental block about " there is no way I could fast for 36 hours". Then instead of thinking I can't do it, I started saying to myself I can do It! And I did it! 😊💪. I now , several times a week fast for 12hrs to 18hrs - or to put it another way - I have more days that not I have a time restricted eating window. I try to incorporate a 36 hour every couple of months. Since doing that, despite having treats, I'm losing weight. Thank you Dr. Mindy
